Is it possible to root the LG stylo 2 (T-mobile) - LG Stylo 2 Questions & Answers

Recently purchased the LG stylo 2 (came with 6.0.1).
Is there a way to root the device on this android version?

Plus one more! Same question. Is anyone tried to do so? Help!

Chances are, no. Depends on if you're running software version zv4 or zv3. since it's a recent purchase, chances are you're running 4, and they're working on it. if you're running 3, you MIGHT be able to. there are other threads here that are dedicated to it. I'm waiting for them to get past the update. gargh.

Why not?

The z4 update somehow killed the route used to root. If you root z3 and then update I think you'll either brick or revert to stock. I'm relative noob tho.

So we are without hope? .....For now?

They're working on it.

The situation is pretty like both G5 and V521.
You need kdz file (ROM) and repack as pre-rooted .tot file.

AT&T LG 3 + G Pad 7 Promo Root on G Pad 7?

Anyone know if the same root process works on the the G Pad 7?
Yes. I was able to successfully root the G pad with purpledrake. Towel root and stump root did not work for me.
No matter what, I can never stay away from android for long.
But how are you going to flash stock to reset the root counter? Also, if you try to update ota it will most fail due to root.

So far nobody has any access to a factory image to restore stock. I was rooted with purple drake and think I received a small update the other day. Keep in mind I rooted and that's all. I have not removed any bloat or have not changed anything like adding exposed or titanium. I am still trying to see what update I took because I cut it on one time after it had been rooted and I saw a message about my device was updated successfully.
Mine came with V41010B out of the box. Received an update for V41010D.

My V410 came with V41010B out of the box, but I've never received any updates, and I check about every other day too. I bought mine on the 4th of September. All I've done it root and install Exposed, but those are both easily undoable.
You can unroot, but the root counter is still going to show you rooted

I don't care about that. I have yet to have any company, cellular or otherwise ever check that. I recently traded in my Note 3 to AT&T for a G3, all they cared about was that it was working and in good condition.
I took that thing back. Didn't know when you get the pad you're signing a contract for two years......
Has anyone tried G3 Tweaksbox with this tablet? Just curious of the results?

No, haven't tried much. Without a stock Rom to flash on case something goes south in not risking anything

[Early Warning] DO NOT TAKE OTAs after upgrading to Lollipop

If you've upgraded to the new Lollipop 5.0.1 update (N910VVRU1BOAF) for Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (N910V):
MAKE SURE YOU NEVER TAKE ANY OTA
unless/until
IT IS CONFIRMED THAT IT IS SAFE TO UPGRADE/DOWNGRADE
or
A dev has made a SAFE UPGRADE via Odin or recovery-flashable .ZIP
One of the main advantages of this update is that you can use ODIN to go back to KK 4.4.4 at anytime, since the bootloader isn't incremented.
For Retail Edition: This is very important if you want to gain ROOT access when available & keep it over OTAs then.
For Developer Edition: Some of you have taken the OTA & restored his aboot backup via Odin. This was fine ONLY for this update. However, if the bootloader is incremented with any coming OTA, it'll block your unlocked bootloader for good & you'll end up with a Retail Edition. Moreover, if you were able to restore your aboot over an incremented bootloader using ADB/dd/etc utilizing ROOT access, you'll most likely HARD BRICK your device since the other critical partitions (TZ, SBL, ... etc) can break boot sequence due to failure in signature verification or version check.
Do we know if the updates will automatically install after a period of time?
I'm still on 4.4.4 NJ5, and the dialog pops up periodically. I am running without using the "no OTA" script at the moment. Has anyone experienced the phone update by itself after a while?
^^^I'm not sure, but I've been postponing mine since the Ota was pushed.

It's recommended to disable the OTA & manually update whenever you wish, if it's safe.
When blocking/disabling packages, which is the one that stops OTA. I've used the debloat tool for lollipop but just want to ensure that I've blocked it since I don't see any packages titled specifically as "OTA"

Know where I can grab the 5.01 firmware? I've already debloated / disabled OTA's, etc.
Also, I'm going to want to flash it through Odin, right? I'm on the retail edition (N910V)
Much Appreciated

For Retail Edition, follow instructions here to flash N910VVRU1BOAF_FullFirmware.tar.md5.7z!
So if if I upgraded to Lollipop can I still downgrade back to Kit Kat?

I did last night, just use Odin to flash the NJ5 firmware, when it tries to boot the first time it will bootloop. Pull the battery, replace the battery and boot to recovery (vol up+home+power) then wipe data. The phone will boot to the setup wizard for KK.
I'm a bit confused about this thread. What would the next update lock that isn't already locked? As I understand, the hope of rooting now is looking quite dim.
Not sure I care much since the SD card limitation has been addressed. That was the only reason I rooted my last phone.

From what I understand, its been confirmed that you can downgrade back to KK from 5.01. However, any updates thereafter (esp. OTA's through your carrier) have the potential to take away that ability to downgrade. A good example of this is the situation that happend with Verizon's Galaxy S4. The Update after MDK locked both the bootloader and the ability to downgrade back to MDK. No one was able to figure out how to downgrade back to MDK and only those fortunate enough not to have taken the update after mdk could flash custom roms that weren't touchwiz based (ie aosp). Since we don't know what the future holds for root on this device, its wise to keep all of your avenues open.

Another example, some Note 3 users fall into the trap of 4.4.4 OTA update & with no option to downgrade, they lost root, custom TW ROMs, and almost everything. Now, they're waiting with Note 4 users for a root method to rejoin the party while Note 3 on 4.4.2 can be rooted using TowelRoot.
Which tool?

All of the debloat tools that I find require root, which are you using?
There's a script that someone wrote to disable Ota and debloat. It doesn't need root. Sacher around on here for it
So would it be a bad idea to update just using the software update in the phones settings menu? Or should I do it by running odin? What actual difference does this make? Will this cause me issues once we do have a root method for this device?
As of now it makes no difference.
Stupid question, but how do you turn off automatic OTA on lollipop?

Your question has already been answered in a previous thread you started. Your phone is on BOG5 firmware therefore the only firmware you can flash onto your phone is BOG5. BOC4 and BOD5 can be rooted, but you cannot flash either onto your phone. Your phone cannot be rooted.
Ouch! Frosty are we? Must have been a bad day as usual for you..
Anyway, FYI: I didn't ask that question before, I asked about downgrading ans this is about replacing current 5.0 firmwares with other 5.0 firmwares.
Lighten up man, take it easy with life and you won't be so bitter all the the time.

The problem is this question has been asked many times and the answer will never change. If you are on OG5, you cannot downgrade, you cannot flash backwards, and you cannot root. Period. Sorry, but you can thank Verizon and Samsung for that.
Any likely root to come out in the near future then? For example when this version of firmware gets old and they get another update firmware released.
Not unless someone finds a usable exploit. Possible, but not looking very good.

My Verizon Galaxy s5 has a update... is there a new root out?

When I first got my Version s5 I learned I could not root. I noticed a update this morning and don't want to install because I have been waiting to root. In hopes some one has figured it out? My phone is "BOG5" build and last I checked it was unrootable. Just making sure I don't miss out on rooting finally. And if there is no root should I still not install the update?
Update note: I looked and could not root "bog5", so I updated now my phone is running android 5.0 with build "Bok3". Is this rootable?
Thanks

I thought the same thing. I didn't think it would hurt to ask. I was looking into the update and it's been sent out since the end of last year. I was hoping someone found something in the new build that they could exploit to root. Also there is word that the s5 is rootable but it's not available. Idk but I hope some figures out the root. If I knew how or even enough about it I would try. Stupid company's locking the bootloader make me angery. Lol

It is rootable <OE1. Not above. There's rumor that the bootloader can be unlocked, not that higher firmwares are rootable. Regardless, still a rumor.

Updating to lollipop

I have the G900A (Unlocked) but I'm on the T-Mobile Network and I'd like to update from 4.4.4 to lollipop
From what I understand AT&T and T-Mobile have both shipped the lollipop updates but I can't seem to find a way to update my phone.
Going through settings->About->Software Updates tells me there are no updates.
How can I go about updating?
Thanks.
You can look on sammobile for the latest firmwares, but as far as i know the latest for G900A is 4.4.2
In the att s5 section there's threads with the files for it, I think you get the official update and do it through the stock recovery, I've never done it myself so I can't help, sorry :s

You could try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65234333&postcount=28
But bear in mind, once you are on LP, you can not downgrade to KK again afaik
So things like root might be an issue (Haven't had enough coffee yet to remember 100%) do some reading up first

Yikes.
I've never cared for rooting before, but I like to keep current on the latest firmware.
So if I understand this correctly I'll be stuck at LP when I get there, even after marshmallow rolls out, yes?

No, you can upgrade firmwares, so MM will be fine, but from what I remember with that model, and a few other S5s, you can not downgrade due to the bootloader being locked once you update to Lollipop
If you read the whole thread (Link top right) of that link I posted - you'll see me trying to help another G900A member with the same problem
