LG g3 vs g2 - G3 General

Hi,
Since i broke my old G2 i was thinking about buying G3. Looking thru forum reviews I've noticed that G2 is much better (in general) device than G3. Is it just me or? Battery lasts longer, pictures look much better also performance overall seems to be much better and faster on G2 than on G3. So what's your experience about that? Should I get G3 over g2?

In my case - G3 with 3GB RAM (G2 is still in the house - wife use it):
*G3 has better performance (GUI, games, multitasking)
*same camera
*same battery life
*G3 has bigger screen, but G2 has nicer colors
*G3 has removable battery and SD card slot
So, not big update, but update still!

Thanks for the answer. I would like to hear few more feedbacks from other people.
Btw. Hvala:d vajda će bit dobar, žao mi je poslije razbijene g2 kupit istog moba, mada je bio dobar.

I think you should go for the G4. Price is not much higher, phone is better in many ways. Also, since it's a newer model you'll have better software support in xda and stock roms. And yes, G4 is what I meant to write.

G4 is in my country around $130 more expensive than G3, which doesn't suit me. I will rather stay on G3 or some price similar phone. Any recommendation is acceptable.

As someone with both, I can say the G2 was slightly faster until Marshmellow came along.
Now the G3 is faster and smoother ( MM was a major update) with built in micro sd support and removable battery ( much easier vs G2)
G3 also has better speakers and a sharper clearer screen vs. G2. Battery life is better on G2 running LP. (not sure about G2 running MM yet)
Both are cheaper now so a G3 would be a decent upgrade choice to consider

G3 is better choice but beware of refurbished phones which can give u a headache especially if its a international model which are converted ...i recently bought d851 which tmobile version of g3 ...enjoying it running smooth 100% original not repaired so buy tmobile version of g3 only

Thanks everyone, I will take then G3

i use G3 F400L and my wife use G2 F320L.. both are korean variant and ofcourse G3 is better because we got MM update while G2 stuck with LP..
ofcourse both of us using custom ROM.. i have Fulmics 5.3 and she have some kind of Cloudy ROM with UX4.. im not sure what's it..
CAMERA.. i can say the rear might be the same but G3 have additional weapon that is Laser Autofocus and Dual Tone LED Flash.. The G3 front camera look more better than G2 front camera.. G2 front camera produce way too soft image while G3 produce a more detailed image..
BATTERY, i can say both equally same.. my wife G2 have only 2600mah and its removable ( korean variant only have it tho ).. while my G3 have 3000mah and removable ( everyone know this ).. but our phone last about 12 hours max with normal usage.. sometimes my G3 ran out of battery earlier than my wife G2..
probably because G3 have 2k display and G2 have FHD which less eating battery i think..
that's my review..

My G2 was replaced with a G3 by Sprint this past spring. Other than battery life, the G3 is better in every way.

I will chime in having used both for awhile.
G3 to me had worse battery life, and the screen is much less vibrant as a tradeoff for the higher resolution.
G3 was my upgrade choice because of removable battery and microSD card slot - which I take advantage of thoroughly (64gb microSD card slot and a 6000mah extended battery from MPJ).
Camera honestly is identical to the G2 (same sensor if i recall), the difference being the laser autofocus on the G3.

Go for G4
G3 on screen time is worse And battery wont last longer

I we thinking that until I read about the G4s dreaded boot loop issues across their headsets.
Wish LG didn't have those problems with the G4

I owned 2 lg g2s. and imho g3 is way better in performance with marshmallow. screen on g3 is little less bright compared to g2 but overall g3 is has the better screen after getting rid of its over sharpening.

Suggest you ask this in the LG G3 Forum - they are far more likely to own one and impart USEFUL information rather than just individual opinion and conjecture without actual G3 ownership.
I would also recommend that you view/read the various Reviews around that offer fairly unbiased comparisons between the 2 devices

I have owned both devices.
The LG G3 battery time will be disappointed. Sony STAMINA mode is very nice feature.
Instead, the LG G3 Replacement Battery.
G3 is faster focusing. Otherwise, no special features.
On the other hand, Z2 has many features, including the Professional mode.
LG G3 is a little less performance, but similar specification.
I do not recommend the LG G3, but the product of our country.
just like samsung, lg phone is ugly
Let's not forget the G3 has no development at all.
G3 isn't better as per your requirements.
It suffers from battery and performance issue, thanks to the QHD display.

The G2's had a lot of development, so I'd assume the G3 would, too. Besides, it's recent to the market. Give it a little time; I'm sure the development would get going.
Now, to answer the question, I wouldn't suggest upgrading from the Z2. There are just two areas I believe the G3 scores over the Z2. One, is the display. It's simply amazing. It's not to say the Z2's display is bad, but nothing rivals the QHD panel on the G3 as of yet. Two, the G3's got a user-replaceable battery, and that's something that truly comes in handy if you're a really heavy user. On the downside, the battery does drain pretty rapidly, and the phone does feel quite slippery, too. Otherwise, mostly everything is pretty much the same. So, unless you're a new buyer that's torn between the two, I'd suggest you stick with the Z2 for the moment. Putting in the extra money just to upgrade on the display isn't a prudent choice.

I had the g3 and can honestly say display on the z2 is better. G3 display for me was washed out. Never mind the over sharpening issue.

I just switched to G3 and couldn't disagree with you more. The Z2 was way more laggy and the G3 doesn't heat up anywhere near what the Z2 does.
LG G3:
- worse camera (except focusing)
- bad performance (even worse in games)
- bad display (low contrast, sharpening artifacts, not even SRGB color gamut, low brightness)
- plastic build
- overheating even when browsing
- battery life far worse than Z2
- worse speakers

I have the Z2, OPO and M8 currently, had the G3 for couple of weeks. I didn't find difference in performance between Z2 and G3 that different but found the Z2 to be little more smooth after using for longer durations. Display wise I like M8 the best out of all, followed closely by G3, Z2 and lastly OPO.

What?! No way. You must be blind or in denial. I owned both devices at the same time and the G3 was way laggier. It stuttered doing basic UI animations (opening the app drawer, switching between apps, going back to the home screen). For a top end phone to stutter like that is just unacceptable. I ended up selling it and keeping the Z2. Even my G2 with custom rom was better than the G3.
used Z2 for a month, never even come close to being hot. Only time it over heat is when you do 4k vid recording, which does up to 8-10 mins now after new FW update. LG and Sammy don't get reported about overheating as much because they both put 5 mins cap limited for 4K recording. Battery for sure is worse than Z2 even without using stamina mode on z2.
Havent had a G3 in my hands to directly compare, so my opinion might be slightly inaccurate/biased,but here goes.
For me there simply is no other android device available with to build quality of the Xperia, it does not feel like a cheap piece of junk in your hand but like a premium device justifying its price tag, not that im saying the G3 does, but maybe. The camera on the Z2 is above average and certainly good enough for me even with CM11 running it.
The battery life of the Z2 is where in my opinion the Z2 excels (When using STAMINA mode), it simply magical. I have also read a few articles of the G3's QHD display being washed-out and annoyingly hard to read outdoors.
For me the pinnacle of android bliss is this: Xperia + CyanogenMOD !
Every time I tried to use it outdoors it would be way too dim to use and throttle itself. Even when I used lux it would cut it down too dim for outdoor use.
G3 is a "wish" that not came true.
QHD displays will be effective ONLY with 64bit SOC and powerfull GPUs +lot of RAM. (4GB @1GHz+ minimum)
S5 LTE-A version with Snapdragon 805 left only 850+MB of free RAM having 3GB!
It's a overkill gimmick at the moment.
Z2 is the best all around smartphone out there, PERIOD.

G2 for 25$ or G3 for 100$?

I'm getting my wife service on Verizon and I'm trying to decide to get her the G2 or the G3. Me personally I'm fine with my G2 for another year. If I get her the G3 I can even probably keep it for myself and give her my G2. Any opinions are appreciated.
I think you should get the G2. Even though the G3 is newer and contains more modern hardware, it barely passes the G2 in terms of benchmark because of the large pixel density. If you look at antutu benchmarks, you'll notice the G2 nearly passes the G3 because the higher pixel density puts too much stress on the G3's GPU. You'll also notice the G2 has a lot more custom ROMs available for you to flash such as CyanogenMod, ParanoidAndroid, AOKP, CloudyG3, etc.
I have the same problem. Either let my family member keep New g3 or give him mine g2. Really tough decision as i read that g3 is less powerful and tends to lag. English-spoken sites doesnt notice such issue though. Only better thing is camera, which is important for me. But g2's cam is still pretty good (but i find its performance not constant)
I would go with G3, just because its newer and that means MORE UPDATES
I would also go with the G3 for the newer updates, More features but screen yh :/ unneccesary but also if you look at the value, The g3 will stay higher in price then the G2 ofcourse even if you pay $75 more for it you will get more back. Plus G3 also has gorilla glass 3 maybe usefull if your wife doesn't use a case

I have a G2 for some months now and I'm happy with it... I have a chance to sd the phone now and put some more and get the g3. Is it worth it? Anyone have used the g3?

If you are going to buy the 3gb ram version lg g3, then yes
Otherwise NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :fingers-crossed: :fingers-crossed:
The g3 is nice but I'm happy just using cloudy g3... The main difference is the extra gb of ram and the camera is better.. It does have a better screen but honestly my g2's screen is amazing as it is
Thanks for the replies both!! If anyone else has something to propose I'm all ears
Just check the reviews, what does g3 have better than g2? More ram, slightly better cpu(like if you can notice, lol), bigger creen(depends if better or worse), higher resolution..and maybe more. Both devices are good, actually not good they are amazing but it all depends on what you want to call one of them better than the other. Go to a store which displays them if you can, that way you can decide easier.
PS: I'm a recent g2 owner and i think g2 is the best device you can get for the buck you pay :good:
To be honest, I would wait until Q1 2015 when most newer phones are out and when reviews are up.

Have any of you updated your G2 to the G3 rom? does it make the camera faster, cause that really sucks!:-/
I love this phone, and the features, but getting tired of the shutter time, and all the blurry pictures:-/

I have no issue with shutter time or blurry pics unless i use magic focus
I find the size of the g2 is perfect ,the g3 is a bit to big...
I get blurry pictures as well ,besides the camera i love this phone
The G3 stock rom is cool. I like the additional features that you can get, but there is a CloudyG3 rom available.
My G2 has built in wireless Charging (verizon) where the G3 does not. Looks like they opted to go the Samsung route (AT&T removed the Qi circuit all together) and go with the Qi Compatible replacement backplates that are $40 extra.
I really can't see a reason to upgrade to anything else.
The G2 pushes my size limitations. If I was to go to a G3, I would opt for just a Note 4 coming out in October with the 64-bit SnapDragon 805 processor and QuadHD screen.
But personally, with Android L just right around the corner, I wouldn't buy anything without first checking out what is available. With Google releasing the dev edition of Android L, I would imagine manufactures would be updating pretty frequently.
G3 is not worth buying. The answer is simple, you have amaizing smartphone, with great specs ans you won't notice any change in performance. G3 in comparison to G2 has the same performance, because of this 2K screen. There isn't noticeable difference, between screen from G2 and G3, all on G2 is really sharp.

Agreed, G2 > G3
Eu queria um lg g3 :C
The only phone on the market that I would upgrade to is the Samsung Note 4, there's nothing about G3 to make me feel tempted. Most likely I would wait until April - May for the next year flagships.

[Q] Is still a good buy?

Hello guys! I just want to ask you G2 users if this phone is still a good buy? I'm planning to upgrade my phone by next year.
I'm still using my LG Optimus Black and it has been my companion for more than 4yrs if I'm not mistaken. The G2's price here has dropped significantly so I'm thinking of getting one
Feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thank you guys!
I think it is. It's a great piece of hardware with excellent developement, great display and performance is on par with newer phones. There's no wear and tear on the buttons after a year of using it, they still feel solid. It's also getting the G3 UI in an update soon.
I don't know how long LG supports their devices with updates though, maybe you'll be a better judge of that after having one for so long.
Thank you but what about its performance? i also have a friend who owns one but his lags a lot. i dont know if it's because he's just stupid or it's the device itself?
Software updates don't bother me much since I have had good experience with LG's support on the OB. It was launched with 2.2 froyo, got 2.3 gingerbread and they ended support on 4.0.4 which is kinda respectable since it got through 2 major updates and we got a stable kitkat rom and LG's build quality is also commendable.
JB laggs a lot tbh. KK is good but you will see imrovements if you root it and flash a custom rom. Honestly, both battery and performance-wise.
If you get a good price on it, then go for it. Root it right away lol you can always return to stock as it if it was rooted
Good thing you would enter the G2 world just like I did: with stable G3 ROMs ready to go
Sent from my LG-D802
If you aren't one of those who demand the latest and greatest, the G2 is pretty much one of the best picks for money right now. The screen and CPU is on par with most newer phones (Nexus 6, G3 and Note 4 aside) and it can be acquired for a very little price. It has been confirmed to get Lollipop and that's most likely the last update this phone will get
But it's super fast, has a good battery and it just WORKS. I still say that if I had to replace my phone, I would still get myself a G2 because there's no other phone out there that is that much better.
This device currently, with maybe Nexus 5, has best price/quality ratio. For not too much money, you will get hardware that is still quite powerful (S800, 2GB of RAM, 3000 Mah battery etc.).
Also, considering that you had LG Optimus Black, the LG G2 will be great leap forward in terms of quality and performance.
Hope this helped a bit OP. :highfive:
Thank you for all your input guys! This will surely help with my decision. But what do you think about the Nexus 5? It's just 5-10 dollars more expensive than the G2 here, which one will you go with?
The Nexus 5 has a brighter screen if that's something that really matters.
Other than that and ROM support, I'd definitely choose the bigger display, better camera and battery, and the other benefits of the G2.
I'd choose the G2 over most, perhaps all phones out atm. Maybe not the Xperia Z3, just because of really similar specs but withthe addition of waterproofing.
Samsung phones have the horrible AMOLED displays, HTC is too big for its screen, and the G3 has worse battery life and barely any performance difference. Not miles better camera and I prefer the G2 display.
The G2 is the best phone to buy
I have a G2 and OPO. OPO is a better choice.... same price almost.
I have had my G2 for just over a year. I would agree with others it is still a top notch phone for the money. But beware i have had to replace the usb/ headphone board. And now my screen has the dead spot towards the top, so it will need replaced soon also. I dont know if i just got a bad phone or if the quality is just sub par.

G2 vs g3

Regarding my question here.there hasnt been any answers herehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=60651149
So I am asking the g2 community.
I was considering to buy g3.
I am confused between g2 or g3?
Which is more faster. Which has more battery life?
As due to high resolution screen i have heard g3 performance isnt as good as g2.
Are these true?
Im getting a d850(slightly used 3gb ram) or d802(new).
Which one is a better choice
G2's performance is better than 16GB ROM 2GB RAM G3. The 3GB/32GB is better. I believe it will not have game performance as good as the G2 but the screen is bigger and better and the RAM will make multitasking better too.
Battery the G2 is one of the "battery kings". Much better than the G3.
G3 Pros:
Screen quality
Camera
Accessories avaiable at the moment
Design (IMO)
G2 Pros:
Battery
Performance (better than 2GB G3, slightly better than 3GB G3 I believe)
Price
Sources: My girlfriend has 2GB G3 and I have D802 G2. So I am used to both of them.
G2 VS G3
I already used both of the phones, first the G2 and then the G3 (16gb), but now that my G3 was stolen I decided to get a G2.
The truth is..
G3 have a better display resolution (but it drains battery really fast, and colors are less vivid).camera on G3 is actually the same as the G2 the only difference is the laser focus (upgrade the G2 to lollipop and it will be almost the same ). The speaker on the G3 is much more lauder and clearer than G2 for sure (speaker on G2 is not bad at all, is good). You can expand the memory on G3 while on G2 you can only have 16 or 32GB (I bought the 32GB version of G2, and when I had G3 16GB version I never needed an extra memory, so 32GB is more than fine for me). Now for performance the G2 is clearer the winner, les lag on gaming due to the screen, and much mire battery life. and for design I love both but it feels much better to hold the G2 on hands than the G3.
In conclusion il stay with the G2 and later buy the G4 or G5...:highfive:
I have both phones.
I gave the g3 to my girlfrend and I'm keeping my g2 with cm12
Battry life is beter. It's faster with cm then g3.
The GPS on g3 is aufull and it's not as reaponsive.. The soc 801 is to slow to handle the display on g3.
I'm not bying a g4 think il switch to nexux
Thanks for the advice. I already bought the g3
