Hi everyone,
please don't laugh at me but I am into big troubles here thanks to my crazy cat who (suffering some sort of playing attack) jumped on the table, kicked my phone and ripped out the USB cable in the middle of flashing a new modem
So now, when I switch on my device (N9005XXUBMJ1 build) and swipe the lockscreen, I get this pop-up:
Process system isn't
responding.
Do you want to close it?
[Wait] [OK]
Click to collapse
Apart from that I also get bootloops every 20 or 30 seconds, unknown baseband, no sound, no signal.
I tried literally everything from cache/full wipe to flashing N9005XXUBMI7 and J1 stock (there is J3 available for my country but I refrain from it due to the locked bootloader), flashing different modems (N9005XXUBMI6, J1 and J2) with different cables and Odin versions, booting in Flight mode with SD and/or SIM card removed and battery taken out..... everything without success.
My guess is that there is some issue with the EFS folder and when I try to open the dialer (Phone) I get a FC preventing me from seeing if my IMEI is still there (I reckon it's not).
I can boot into Recovery/Download but that's it. I was wondering whether there is a chance to ADB sideload something in Recovery mode as I do have a copy of my EFS folder (not sure, tough, if it's functional) and, in theory, even a backup of my EFS using Samsung Note 3 EFS Backup/Restore although the programme seems to be useless.
Of course, I searched the forums for all kinds of solutions but I couldn't find anything that helped me restoring full functionality to my device.
The thing is that I want to keep my Knox 0x0 in case I do need to bring my device to a Service Center so flashing any custom ROM is not an option right now.
I would be very grateful for help and any hints/suggestions are highly appreciated.
Thanks a lot in advance!

No, unfortunately I don't. There is just stock recovery and no way to install CWM right now with all the FCs and bootloops.
I am also afraid that flashing anything but stock will trip Knox (now it is still 0x0) which, in case I need to bring my device to one of Sammy's Service Centres for repair, would not be good to have.
Any educated guesses of whatelse I could try?
What about flashing new MJ6 firmware? This could help

No it won´t help. I have exatly the same problem as u and i dunno how to fix it. I tried it with custom roms = no success. i tried to fix my problem with new samsung firmware = no success. Don´t think about flashing custom firmware, my knox is cause of that on 0x1 now.
I made also a thread about this issue, follow this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2517945. and u will find a possible solution there.
I tried the possible solution but somehow i get
List of devices attached
66ee6420 offline.
Maybe im doing some mistakes or im just to noobie for adb stuff. (never used it before)
Try it and tell me if it works for u.
Good luck, i need it too.
My device is now in Samsung service center, the symptoms are the same like you, the only difference is that my baseband is ok, I can do a call.

Well, flashing TWRP might be the only solution to the problem apart from sending the device in to Samsung Customer Service for repair. The thing is that it will void my warranty as you noticed yourself given that flashing any custom ROM trips Knox to 0x1. So I consider TWRP an absolutely last resort if everything else fails, although I can't imagine that it will be able to restore EFS if you didn't make a backup of it before at some point (which I did, but the tool seems to be crap and useless --> be warned at this point, DO NOT try any EFS backup/restore with this tool).
Regarding the adb stuff (on which I am not an expert neither), did you try to adb connect 66ee6420 assuming you have USB debugging enabled on your device?
Anyways, I also found out that my CSC is missing as well apart from the baseband so I tried to flash in Odin stock modem and CSC together. Didn't help unfortunately. So if anyone has some more suggestions what to do you are welcome to let us know please! Seems there are more fellow users with the same or similar problem....
Anyone out there who has an idea how to deal with the "Process system isn't responding" error without flashing TWRP or another custom ROM (reasons explained above)?
All reasonable hints or suggestions or educated guesses are appreciated! Thanks.
Update
"Firmware upgrade and initialisation" in Kies doesn't work neither. Only two options at this point seem to either flash custom recovery and hope for the best or send it in for repair.
Will try my luck with Samsung Service Plaza in Delhi (India) and see if they can fix the LTE version :fingers-crossed:

Yes i tried it. Im getting always now
List of devices attached
66ee6420 unauthorized instead of offline after installing latest adb version
My pc wants to install the "Samsung Mobile MTP device" driver but its impossible cause that damn phone keeps rebooting every 30 seconds.

Hi all,
first of all hello to everybody, this is my first post to xda. I'm from Germany and a former iPhone user. Now i got my Note 3, but came really fast into trouble..
having the same issue here right now with my Galaxy Note 3 N9005 and can't get any results. Unfortunately i have no backup of my efs and the efs folder on my phone is empty
I still get into downlad same as recovery mode but nothing helps. Flashed the phone via Odin several times with no results.
I tried to fix the problem with the adb shell commands but my phone still has problems with the system process. As international user i have the problem that v2.6.3.2 neither 2.6.3.1 is available for download. I tried with v2.6.3.8
I read something about a 3-parted firmware, is this maybe a possibility?
I'm sorry I didn't post to the TWRP-Thread, but i have an insufficient amount of posts
Hope you can help me, I'm pretty frustrated atm

You can later thank Killberty for the solution.
When it comes to Knox bull**** you don't have to worry. In order for Samsung Service to refuse to repair your phone (in future) with 0x1 they have to prove that YOU caused the problem/damage. The can't just say bye bye when they see 0x1. I'm talking from my own experience. Never had any problems with sending the phone back to service with custom roms, binary, knox 0x1 and so on... Phones can die even if you don't root or flash anything, you know it and they do. Just stand up for yourself and demand explanation to how the phone got bricked just because your rooted it. In THIS case it was your fault. Good luck!

i tried this tool but its not working..
the tool shows that there is some data transfer, but nothing is happening in my phone.
just to confirm..how much is the size of a properly working efs.img file ?
mine is around 20,048 Kb
It's 20 mb the image, besides I doubt that you can do anything without a XwZ BOX,which will cost you over $100 so my advice is that you take it to a dealer for a repair , that's if you don't have an EFS back up, however I'm not sure if the things are easier if you have a back up either, since it didn't work for me.

Just a question... How did you make the efs backup you have? Size should be correct
If you remember how did you make backup, it'd be easier...
Have you got just a backup? The file you're using could be a corrupted file...

Yes the dealers can fix it, will cost somewhere between $30 To $40,at least that's the way the things are where I live. That is why I'm gonna keep my Note II on 4.1.2 until it dies away and will get THIS biggi and forget about Samsung alltogether,I have learned my lesson the hard way..

Fixing IMEI After Downgrading to 4.3 from 4.4.2
I need to know how to install my original or a working IMEI onto my AT&T Note 3 SM-N900A any info is helpful thanks hopefully someone knows the answer and can reply fast.
Same here.. is this method is works with sm-n900a at&t?????? after updating to NCUC2 4.4.2 my efs folder get damaged.. now unknown baseband and also IMEI is null/null
Please help me out
explanations
call out of the explanations and some easier. Thank you.
I've always found the easiest way to backup/restore EFS is via TWRP. Just select backup then just tick EFS. That particular backup will then contain only your EFS partition which you can restore at any point, even if your phone doesn't boot. As long as you can get into your recovery you're good to go.

I would like to flash without factory resetting my phone. also, I don't want to root my phone. Please help. Thank you.

Odin WILL overwrite the phone. Without Root you can't do a nandroid (full phone backup) and about your only option is to get something like ES File Explorer and try to copy out all your media files, docs etc.
All the best ways to save stuff require root access.
You could also try SMS Backup & Restore and Call Logs Backup & Restore to save those out to your extSD. Also you can export your Contacts to extSD and import them back once the flashing is done.

There are things you can do if you search for IMEI lost or similar words. But simplest is probably to DL the Stock version for your phone & use Odin to flash it. That will lose all your data and apps etc on the intSD so you might want to look for other ways first.
I'm guess here but I think maybe you have a problem trying to downgrade your modem/bootloader. CM12 is (if I remember right) v5.0.x of Android, and since Kitkat there have been issues going BACK to previous versions. I think maybe you upgraded your BL to the LP version then it failed when you tried to go back to KK version.
You do not say which 4.4.2 you flashed but you could look for a v5 of that ROM and try that first.

have you solved it yet? I met this problem but dont know how to handle it.
can you give me a hint?
Hey Guys!
Firstly, I know this same thread has been made for other devices. Most of which have solutions, but these do not work for me. I really need your help with my problem!
The Problem: My GN3 has lost its IMEI, the EFS folder might have gotten corrupt somehow. But by a stroke of bad luck, the IMEI turned to unknown and no methods seem to solve this.
Thus far I have tried changing the IMEI with NV Tools and EFS Pro. None of which work, I tried generating a new file and flashing it on, that did also not help.
It was stock 4.4.2 Samsung, rooted. We sent it in to a service center, but since Knox now says 0x1 they want to charge us R3500 (~$300) to repair it.
Upon inspection, I noticed from my EFS folder that all files starting with 'nv' was gone. SO I copied these from my rooted Note 2 and placed them in the folder. Idea being that I could just change the IMEI using NV Tools, as it didn't work otherwise. This however did not work.
The only sollution I can think of, would be for someone to make a backup (using TWRP or CWM) of their EFS folder, then for me to restore it and then change the IMEI with NV Tools.
I promise I did not steal this phone, and it is not blacklisted or anything. Ill send any who might help me a picture of the IMEI on the back of the phone + the original box and the receipt if they doubt me.
I DON'T WANT YOUR IMEI NUMBER, but I need a full Note 3 EFS folder with the original files, so I can attempt to fix mine.
If anyone has a different solution I'm all ears, and up for anything.
cant u just flash stock in odin.

I have done that, all it has done is increase the flash counter from 1 to 2. And remove my root. The EFS is broken (somehow) and I can't figure out how to fix it....
Odin upload the latest version of the modem

Ok, what I found out as a solution was to delete EFS folder. Android will rebuild it! BUT: My EFS and Baseband are still gone. I reflashed stock (again) using Odin. No Dice. My NV_DATA, NV_CORE ect files are gone!
And IMEI isnt coming back.
If anyone has a spare EFS backup, or a script or something that i can flash to make my device have those files again I would appreciate it very much.

The following might be uotdated but no harm to try anyway(Can't copy the link so i copied everything)
1. Install Stock firmware via Odin, then re-run auto-root (to regain root of course)*
2. Install TWRP 2.6.3.2 via odin, reboot to recovery.
3. Do an "adb shell" when phone is in recovery mode to run commands via TWRP.
From the ADB shell: Wiped the EFS partition with the following command:
mke2fs /dev/block/mmcblk0p12*
mkdir /efs
mount -t ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p12 /efs
(the last two commands probably did nothing, but thats what I did anyway)
Do a factory reset, reboot system

Sorry @Hitman7987 but I'm new here but had the exact same problem you did.
I do not really understand the solution Rosli gave though. Could you help me out: point me to a post or explain here
What is an "adb shell" and how does one "do it"?
Thanks

I honestly can't remember, I think I just flashed TWRP and wiped the partitions he said to wipe. Then did the reboot.
Sorry for my lack of help, but I really can't remember the exact steps.

To flash a firmware or custom recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2704363
The rest are quite straight forward
Hey, I started flashing custom ROMs to my S4 (GT-i9506) about three months ago and everything was okay, but just recently I tried to return to my stock i9506 4.4.2 ROM and i succeeded in doing so, but afterwards I noticed that my S4 wasn't recognising my SIM.
At first I assumed it was a faulty SIM card (my SIM had multiple scratches on it), so I bought a new SIM card and yet the problem persisted. I tried to make calls and etc but my phone retuned an error stating, "Mobile network not available". I decided to check my settings and I noticed that my Baseband Version was labelled as "unkown".
After seeing this I searched for solutions online and came upon S4 service codes, I used the "*#06#" code and it returned a message saying "IMEI... null/null". Yet again I searched for a solution and came upon none to help me
I soon found out that my problem had something to do with the EFS parition in my phone. I re-rooted and installed ES File Explorer and opened up my EFS folder. In her everything looked ordinary, but then I noticed that my .nv_data file was missing, which, if i remember correctly, is responsible for important functions such as the IMEI and Baseband
I tried every solution I could find online and nothing fixed my issue - I'm only writing this as it's the only option which doesn't require me to go to my local Samsung Experience Store.
TL;DR
My GT-i9506 doesn't know its own IMEI and Baseband version and I'm all out of solutions at this point.
Am I better off going to the Samsung Store?

IMEI no longer inhabits the EFS folder, so you're not missing anything. Flash the modem for your ROM again through Odin and see if that corrects the issue. If it does, use Wanam's EFS Backup to properly backup the hidden partitions where the IMEI is now stored.
Flash the latest stock lollipop rom for your device and you will be fine. Sounds to me you were on Lollipop stock and you downgraded to Kitkat.

So then where is the IMEI stored? I'd just like to know for future purposes
The modem didn't fix it

Tried this too, but failed also
I don't know which of the hidden partitions the IMEI is stored in. I only know where it's not, and that's not in the EFS folder. However, based on the partition names, the IMEI is likely stored in any or all of the following partitions: m9kefs1, m9kefs2, m9kefs3. While unlikely, it could also be stored in the following partitions: modemst1, modemst2.

You can try it, but I doubt you'll find anything human readable within them.

I flashed the stock I9506XXDOA6 NEE ROM in Odin once more but my IMEI remained null.
So I decided to extract the modem.bin after installing the Lollipop ROM and it too didn't work

Hi, I used to use Optimus G, it has IMEI in m9efs* and Modem in modem, modemst*. I never had IMEI problems but on S4 it is really scary. Will backing up EFS in TWRP, manually dd'ing EFS, modemst*, m9kefs* block10 make me stay on safe side?
Sent from my GT-I9505
Just use Wanam's EFS Backup tool. It backs up all those partitions, so no need to run commands in a terminal.

Hey, I've already tried that method prior to posting, unfortunately it didn't work. I might just go see the Samsung Experience Store tomorrow
