[Solved] Zenfone 5, Stuck at ASUS Logo - Zenfone 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys, I have a ZenFone 5. I have recently updated it to Lolllipop version 3.24.40.87. This Morning, I rooted it and changed its stock recovery to TWRP . After that when I tried to install Xposed using an installer provided by someone on this same site, but in second step of installing the framework, ZenFone did not boot. Then the phone was stuck on ASUS logo . After that I took backup through TWRP and did these various things to make it work.
1. Cleared the cache (didn't work)
2. Cleared the whole partition by selecting system, cache, internal sd,data in TWRP (also didn't work)
3. Downloaded the very same firmware previously installed and tried to install it from an OTG but failed with error 255
4. Restored the backup as after doing the above steps, it was not even booting from the very first large logo of ASUS
5. Tried to return to same stock recovery by uninstalling TWRP by the same installer provided to insall it to flash official firmware through stock recovery. Completed successfully but did not work.
6. Then I extracted the stock recovery from the firmware's zip and flashed it through fastboot. Stock recovery was then successfully installed.
7. Then I tried to install the official firmware by sideloading through ADB in stock recovery. Got same error two times as the phone was restarted automatically on 54% and the error was "*Failed to read command:".
8. Wiped the data using stock recovery.
Now It is booting up directly to the recovery where the red traingle is appearing . Does Anyone have a working method. If do, please share . It would be a great help for me.

It was the same lollipop firmware by which I had updated my phone. It was UL-ASUS_T00F-WW-3.24.40.87-user.zip and in both the steps 6 & 7 this was used. BTW thanks for the reply :good:

You cant sideload 87.zip when youre on 87.
you need to downgrade to kk first and upgrade back to 87.
Flash boot, recovery and fastboot from 54.zip and from recovery sideload 54.zip and 540.zip
Now you can upgrade back to 87 .
Or you can directly upgrade via FOTA.

Nexus 10 does not boot after Update

After attempt at installing software update to Nexus 10 tablet will not boot. Have wiped Cache and even then did a factory reset. Nothing. Google appears and then twirling colorful dots and nothing. For hours just twirling dots., Samsung and Google and Best Buy geeks says nothing they can do. No longer under warranty but very upset since tablet was working great until update. I am not very tech savvy but can anyone help or do I just have a new paperweight? Thanks for any advice.
I have not made any modifications to the tablet.
Just flash the newest factory image. Get it and the instructions to flash it from here:
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
yes flash the newest image
After getting a notification of the latest update I went and rebooted for the update to install but it went to the twrp recovery and nothing happens, is there a way to install the update?

as a newbie .I'm not allowed to reference your link !!
I rooted my nexus 10 using xda instructions., installed CWM. All good. I tried backup and recovery and screwed something up in recovery. Got stuck in recovery mode reboot loop. Many gyrations, no fix, so I tried factory reset. Still no fix.
I decided to install a new version of the OS using the Mantaray tar you reference above. UBS connecting and fastboot. All messages look good. Now I have the problem reported in this thread. Stuck with flying balls and no boot. Very interested in any suggestions you may have.

So you keep just boot looping into twrp, right ?
Did you try installing a custom ROM through adb or just connecting your device?
If it keeps boot looping you gotta to wipe the full storage.

No, on a normal reboot or a shutdown/restart it's fine no problems there but when I try to install the update via system update it reboots into twrp. I attach a pic of my system.

Oh I see, well, you should just flash a custom ROM or if you want to stay with official factory images, you should just follow instruction there:
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
What you do need is just have fastboot executable once you are into the bootloader.
You can easily access the bootloader from twrp : shutdown > reboot into booatloader
Cool thx for your continued help :good:
The problem is due to your attempting an OTA update with a custom recovery (TWRP). You can only do OTA with stock recovery. Once you are in this situation, your easiest way out of it is to simply apply the latest factory image using "fastboot", but this will also wipe your user data so backup any photos, music, etc. before you start. You will also have to reload programs from Playstore once the new image is installed.

[RECOVERY][ROOT] N910T/T3 6.0.1 PE3 - How to Root (Systemless & System Mode) / TWRP
This is really simple but I'm guessing people are still wondering.
Download TWRP
Download SuperSU 2.76 Systemless (for Stock Kernels) or Download SuperSU 2.76 SystemMode (Permissive Kernel Required)
*Optional* Download a Permissive Kernel like BeastMode (only needed for System Mode SuperSu)
Download Odin
Put the SuperSU on your SD Card / Internal Storage
*Optional* Put Custom Kernel on SD Card (Optional, Only required if using SuperSu SystemMode)
Reboot into Download Mode
Flash TWRP in Odin
Boot into TWRP
Flash SuperSU
Enjoy!
For details on how to flash with Odin, flash with TWRP please see other threads or use Google.
Additional Downloads:

Additional Info:
NetFlix:
Some users have reported that NetFlix would not connect after rooting. There is no need to do this if you do not have any problems with NetFlix.
-Delete /system/vendor/lib/liboemcrypto.so and reboot.

Thanks of course to Chainfire & Teamwin
Also Thanks to freeza.
Cool. Thanks. it's same for all other mm roms too.
Is this Systemless root?
So if we already have a rooted device with TWRP installed, and assuming we already were able to flash 6.0.1 to the device, then the only step required is:
Download SuperSU
Flash SuperSU via TWRP
Is that right?

Your prior rooted device needs to be rerooted. Download SuperSu to phone. Download TWRP to computer. Odin TWRP. Once TWRP is flashed, boot to TWRP and install Supersu [at least that's what I did.]
But since I already have TWRP installed as recovery, do I need to re-install it via Odin?
Unless flashing 6.0.1 overwrites the recovery?
Otherwise just flashing SuperSU should re-root.

Question, have rooted and jail broke many but not this 910T yet. I am on non-root 5.1.1, should I take the OTA 6.0.1 and then follow the above instructions or download 6.0.1 from samsung and install via Odin and then start following these instructions? Would perfer to take over the air so I dont have to reset up everything.
Thanks in advance and I cant fn wait to start using Adfree again!
I downloaded via Kies. Didn't have to setup a thing after.

Anybody know if editing the platform.xml still works for SD card writing? And with the update I am getting the stupid -504 error in google play store trying to install Titanium backup......I might have to reflash ugh.

Man I hope not. We did a lot of *****in! Looks like HTC is gonna do the next nexus and should be on par with the N7 but I really don't want to do that. There is no way any phone can compare with the same phone rooted and custom. We will see.
Any ideas, stock non rooted 5.1 updated via OTA to 6.0.1, flashed latest TWRP 3.2.0 successfully (USB Deb enabled, R/L disabled) and still boots into stock recovery? What am I doing wrong?

'm trying to install TWRP, but it keeps getting overwritten. After installing, I can initially boot into TWRP, but after doing a system reboot, it goes back to stock recovery. What am I doing wrong?
Here's the steps I take:
Open Odin, check AP and load twrp image (3.0.0)
Connect phone and wait for Added!
Uncheck Auto Reboot
Click Start and wait to finish.
I then have to take out the battery to turn the phone off (I had to do it this way because leaving Auto Reboot checked would cause the same issue as below). I then boot directly into recovery and TWRP loads as expected. Everything looks fine, and I can do a recovery reboot back to TWRP. However, if I do a system reboot and let Android load, then shutdown and boot into recovery again, I'm back to stock.

Perhaps try wiping everything...
System, Data, Internal Storage.
Then flash the Odin MM tar.
Then start the process in the thread.
I personally did the process after a SmartSwitch update and it worked from just doing what I listed in the OP.

Yeah idk... It just worked this time. IF I was to say what I did different I booted into recovery first it started with applying update or something then crashed because no update was there, then showed stock MM recovery I then. Shutdown and went into download mode and did the OP.

I was running on an older version of TWRP. Also I had uprooted my phone recently due to battery heating and media server issue. Please do help me.

Guys, hi
There is one more new problem. I tried to update the OTA update but got stuck at boot screen. It's not responding after the Lenovo logo. I think the issue is not having any recovery(custom nor stock). How to fix this issue? Please help me to

can you boot into the system? if Yes then use rashr app and flash twrp's img file from the storage.. and reboot to recovery and u don't need to update to stock lollipop you can directly flash cm12.1 by ed300 and after booting into system once you can install any lollipop or marshmallow rom with the help of recovery. i advice you to not to do update as u r a root user.

You first hv to root for the installation of recovery.. First root ur phone then install stock recovery.. Using flashify or rashr.
If you can boot into system, then you can use adb sideload to flash zips(recovery or rom).
For detailed info, google it or go to http://www.droidviews.com/sideload-roms-mods-using-adb-sideload/
If it doesn't work, root your phone and then install flashfire. Then use it to flash recovery.

Hello,
Thank you soo much. I flashed TWRP 2.8 using Flashify and it works. Actually I wanted to do a factory reset to solve "Unfortunately the process com.android.phone has stopped" issue. It wasn't allowing me to turn on my mobile data. I couldn't reset the phone too as a recovery was missing. Now the issue is fixed and I'm happy with it. Can I flash the TWRP 3.0.2-0 similarly using Flashify? Also please do suggest some good ROMS bro. Im still on the KitKat version( S040_150805)

Give FlashFire a try
I've always stayed away from flashing apps. Using the ADB / Fastboot shell on your computer works just fine and is relatively simple if you only want to flash some files.
If you don't want to install the entire Android SDK just to have ADB / Fastboot functionality, have a look at the Minimal ADB and Fastboot installer: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317790

To update my rooted phone to B182 I had to download the full package (2.3gb, including update.zip and update_full_WASL21A_hw_eu.zip). I was not successfull in updating via TWRP. I updated via the official system menu so I don't know how exactly it was applied. I only tried flashing the update via sideload and recovery and it didn't work (http://rootmygalaxy.net/flash-ota-firmware-updates-using-adb-fastboot-commands/). Maybe you are lucky. Problem is, I'm quite new to this stuff, hopefully someone else can help out.
Can someone please provide us with a link for the stock recovery?

By the way, i solved the problem. I downloaded HuaweiUpdateExtractor for extracting the .img files from the update.app and i flashed them with fastboot.
Nice, congrats
