So Im looking to replace my Lgg3. I dont need the greatest nor the newest as I dont game, and that seems to be the highest draw activity you can do on a phone. I use mine for web browsing 99% of the time. Maybe youtube here and there.
So whats out there worth looking at?
I was looking at the Oneplus 3 until I saw the Axon 7. The specs of both are impressive but there are a few pros and cons of each (I'm going to focus on things external to specs, you can make up your own mind about those).
The spec comparison is given below:
http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/LG-G3,OnePlus-3,ZTE-Axon-7/phones/8347,10017,10068
Oneplus 3
Pros - Active developer community, available now, source code released, bootloader unlockable, only $400 (vs the high cost of "flagship phones")
Cons - Subpar customer service, concerns with wifi and 4G strength (seems to be person to person or phone to phone), specs not quite as good as Axon 7, seems to be constantly beta testing phone due to constant updates (some are fixes, other things can be broken in the process)
Axon 7
Pros - Seems to have superior specs, standard 2 year warranty, goodie bundles if you preorder from Newegg or B&H, only $400 (vs the high cost of "flagship phones")
Cons - Source code not yet released, phone not available yet (available for preorder now, to be shipped on July 27th, I think), unlocked bootloader not confirmed (although ZTE says they definitely plan on doing this but it's a matter of WHEN not IF. But IF they wait a long time to do it, this is kind of a moot point), minimal real life reviews as it's not fully released yet
Since my LG G3 mysteriously died a month ago and my S4 backup died yesterday though, I'm kind of in a difficult spot to know what to do. I really want to wait for the Axon 7 (preferable in Graphite rather than gold but that's an additional 2 week weight) but I need a phone now and I'm concerned about the development aspect of the phone.
Hopefully, this helps you. Let me know what you decide upon!
i am waiting for Moto Z play 3600mAh battery, 5.5" form factor and super efficient 14nm Snapdragon 625 processor..My lg g3 died in late April. I am stuck with Moto E (1st Gen) and this device is too slow for playing pokemon go.

How would G4 be guys ? G5 has turned out to be a kind of failure. Or should i wait for G6 ?
My G3 working perfectly fine though.. But now i am bored of this phone. ?

I replaced mine with a Lenovo K4 Vibe. Most specs similar to LG G3 but it has fingerprint sensor, and doesn't have the heating problems I experienced with the G3 when on wifi or using Google Maps.
Personally, I've given up on LG. Used to own an LG G2 (D802) and then recently an LG G3 (D858 dual SIM). Both showed the same problem: faltering screen that eventually fades to black in under a minute. There are plenty of solutions on YouTUbe, but all of them are temporary. Some involve taking out the motherboard and heating in the oven at 320°F, some using soldering wax to re-solder the processor and graphics sockets.
The permanent fix is to buy a new IC and have a capable technician re-solder it into the motherboard. This also seems to solve the yellowish tint on the screen. The problem of LG phones is twofold: heating that starts mysteriously, then the ultra thin motherboard that causes IC melts under the heat.
Sold my G3 and have moved on. Now I know why LG has such little resale value for its G-series phones. Never again.

Yeah, I think I'm with you on that one. Loved my G3 while I had it but it only lasted me a year (admittedly, it was a secondhand phone, but the life of the phone has only been about 2 years), but having it die on me is something new. I have a bunch of older phones lying around (admittedly, most of them with Verizon so they're unusable to me now on AT&T) but I've never had one full on just give up on me. Doesn't speak very well for their reliability. Once I had an issue and was told it was a well known issue with the motherboard and there's not much I can do about it, I've looked elsewhere.
In my case, apparently, I've been paying for insurance via AT&T and they upgraded my failed phone to the Samsung Galaxy S6. Pretty sweet deal for me at this point.
get a redmi note 3 snapdragon 650 variant..

Please dont go that route lbs. As to what im hearing i wouldnt go for a g4. I hear it has bootloop issues for most phones and theres no development for verizon yet because the bootloader is still locked. Theres barely any development in international and they have the bootloader unlocked for the international variant... Id say that phone failed as a G series. People are trying to sell there g4's for a different phone on xda
I'm looking at LG V10 - price is nearly same as was the price of LG G3 when I bought it and it will be even lower when LG V20 comes...
Upcoming nexus? I got both N5 and G3, the G3 always slow down when gaming while the N5 didn't, also the N5 GPS & compass is much better then G3.
p.s. I need to use the N5 for pokemon go, the G3 just always overheat, unable to got gps signal, wrong compass bearing, also the dark camera in AR mode

This.. Or the new Honor 8
Last time I was thinking of replacing my G3 I was considering the Nexus 6P. Then the Oneplus 3 came out.... Now there's the Axon 7 but I'm not sure since the bootloader is still locked.
I'm still not sure since great phones keeps coming out
Wait for LG G6 or LG V20.... dont buy s*it Samsung S7edge -_-
i'm in the same though, willing to change the G3 and i'm looking especially for a very good camera phone, able to deal with games, good battery and no overheating
5.5" screen minimum, no iphone 6S, no Samsung S7, what i've listed so far is Honor 7, Huwaei P9 or Mate8 or the Nexus6P. easily rootable and highly customizable by the XDA community

nononoonooooo.... Huawei and Honors > SoC Kirin procesors -_-
Are you serious?!? Snapdragon is best for Custom ROM, while the Kirin cpu do not support this, in all sides (snapdragon is easy to root too...)
I am also looking for a new phone right now after almost 2 years. first choise for me was the nexus 6p but reading on the internet i find that the new nexus is also coming around okt/nov.... and i really like to flash and have the newest google updates... the best choise is the new nexus

so the list removes all Honor & Huwaei models... so bad.
remaining ones:
- Nexus 6P or coming one in october
- samsung S7 edge, all websites are all so positive with it... look is so basic... but this remains a solution
- SONY Xperia Z5 or Z Performance

I've been following this phone for a while, and while I think it'll be the best flagship out this cycle for me, I'm still not too happy with the fact that it's an 801 processor trying to push a 1440p screen.
I'm still split between waiting out about a year for the G4 while using the Moto G or just taking the plunge and getting this phone. Hopefully an 810 processor (or 808 at the worst) should be able to handle the screen without battery/heat/staggering issues.
For people who've used this phone for a while, if you could return your G3 for a full refund and wait for the G4 with a Moto G, would you?

As mentioned by someone else, the screen resolution hardly impacts performance, the 801 chip can handle a 4k screen pretty easily, the problem lies with optimisations, the G2 was the same when it came out, but software updates made it the phone we know for speed today.
, I personally have no heating issues on software 10H, lag does exist but its just a few frame rates, its as fast as any other 801 at opening apps. The moto G is a nice phone, your best bet is holding out until LG fix issues with a software update.
I have both a Verizon prepaid MotoG and just recently a Verizon LG G3. Both are very nice phones. I use the G3 though.
Yup.. on initial my firmware 10b alot of people were quick to judge the capability of the 801 due to the micro-stutters.
Right now I'm on 10j and all seems well. You'll be surprised how well the 801 handles the 1440p display.
And for your question.. personally, no. The G4 will bring in more unknown issues and satisfaction will never be there. If budget is an issue, then wait and save up. If not, I rather just get the latest and greatest right now.
I sense alot of people are eagerly waiting for a 805 device but the fact is it's aint leaps better. The nVidia K1 is a better beast. So I'm sensing if the G4 may not be alot better than the G3 depending on the chip they use. And if they go beyond 5.5", I'm totally out. Smartphone technology seemed to be saturated at this moment.
One can always wait for the next greatest product. We don't know anything about the G4 so how can anyone advise you to wait for it - or not?
When do you think the g4 will come out? That seems like a long wait..
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I think that issues you mention is software maturity problem. Mostly solved in 10j firmware. It play games smoothly so i dont see any problem with 801 on 1440p, maybe in benchmark but i dont play bench.
Im not gonna trade G3 with any other phone at the moment.
If Xiaomi Redmi 1s arrived earlier in my country, I'd bought it first then wait for Nexus 6...
But I'm satisfied with my G3 now.
The phone (G3) is great but if you feel no reason to upgrade, I'd say wait.
There's always going to be something better around the corner.
If anything, wait until you're so intrigued by a phone that you don't have to ask yourself that question and you'll just go along and buy it.
New Tegras on the way, those should be nice.
So the G4 won't have any issues? Once any flagship device drops you can be assured that there will be issues associated with that device.
i wouldnt have the moto g in the first place..i would have gotten the n5 instead
I would, rite the way. I regret buying this phone and i am thinking about selling it and going back to my nexus 4 and wait for the next nexus.

Really? I've got the nexus 4 now and have had it since it came out and I'm looking for an upgrade. I want a bigger screen, better battery and camera.
Why do you regret the purchase?
My nexus 4 is in mint condition, rooted bit stock and never overclocked. This one is only a few months old as I did a warranty replacement. Let me know if you are interested in selling and swapping.
The problem with waiting for new models is that there are always new models coming out. It is a tough call especially when not knowing about certain models and what they will offer.

I have my nexus 4 that's why I'm thinking about switching back but thanks for the offer only thing I would miss is the big screen and the camera but overall the nexus 4 feels snappier than my G3 a lot of times...
My nexus4 developed the same dead area in the center of the touchscreen that most of them do eventually. I still have it, but my Nexus5 and now my G3 are a lot more fun. I also have a MotoG and it fits really nicely in my hand - the G3 is really just a bit too big for complete comfort, particularly with any kind of case on it (necessary).
That little MotoG is really a remarkable device.
Thanks, still love my nexus 4 but really getting itchy for something new.
Is your main reason for not wanting the lg g3 just the lag? I'm hoping that stuff will be fixed with updates..
I may end up waiting for the note 4.. Not sure yet but really looking for a larger screen now.

Well, basically yes, the phone is not fluid, and I also started to have the shutdown/reboot bug. All of these I believe to be a hardware issue, and I think LG should recall and replace all these units. It's not nice having a meltdown on a phone. I also think is behind with software, Sony devices are already on 4.4.4 while we are on 4.4.2 (at least me). Also the UI is fugly and unoptimized imo, after having Sony and Nexus devices, I would say Song's UI is the sexiest, if I can't get that, I'd go aosp. But I do like how sexy the phone looks like, I like the camera but the options are limited - there I think again, Sony leads the way -, and I like the remote control. The screen would be awesome if it wouldn't be the reason of the overheating - with the other hardware elements together of course.

The 801 has more than enough balls for the qhd display. I can play games smoothly with my cpu and gpu downclocked.
Hello XDA.
This is a thing that has puzzled me a bit, so first I'll present my own point of view and then I'd really like to hear what you guys think.
You can see pictures of the G4 here http://www.phonearena.com/news/LG-G4-leaks-in-all-of-its-glory_id68166
My G2 has served me really well, and honestly it doesn't have to be replaced. It's still very fast and gets the job done. However, after 1 ½ year it gets old - it has never been the most interesting phone design-wise and with the new phones having a much more attractive design you get tempted. Add to that, that the battery isn't what it used to be either. What made me buy it back then, was it's absolutely fantastic internals at an affordable price. And I don't regret purchasing it.
The LG G4 looks great - especially in leather - and the fact that it has MicroSD support and a removable battery means that I won't run short of storage (especially when flashing and keeping backups on the phone) and wiping internal storage is no longer a headache. The camera is supposed to be brilliant, but we'll have to see how it works out in real life. The screen looks promising - rumors say it's using 'Quantum Dot' display which results in better color accuracy and is more battery efficient. All good so far!
But according to the latest rumors, this thing comes with a Snapdragon 808. And mildly put, it doesn't look too well. Sure LG didn't have many options - either go with the overheating 810 or put in a worse 808. Not only is the 808 worse than the 810, it's also worse than the 805 in terms of GPU capabilities and power. It's not much but last year most people considered a Snapdragon 805 the absolute minimum requirement for a phone with a QHD display. We all saw how the LG G3 performed with its QHD display - it wasn't bad, but by no means impressive.
I think that LG should've sticked to the 810 and disable two of the four A57 cores on a kernel level. I'm sure a 4+2 setup is plenty processing power, but the Adreno 430 GPU outperforms the Adreno 418 (found in the Snapdragon 808) by a huge margin. In addition to that, Snapdragon 810 supports DDR4 RAM.
I'm torn, and thinking to wait for the Samsung Note 5 and hope it won't come with a UHD display. What are your thoughts?
The Lg g2 had been my best ✆ for three years. It was gorgeous, it was very fast, it lasted all day.
I wasn't impressed with the G3 but I think the G4 has my name written on it. They've had some time to play with the configuration, I'm sure it will be excellent.
They're going to have to crank up the design next year though. Just saying.

eh i will skip G4 becouse i bought my G2 one year ago and i still need to stay with it for 12 months, but i will probably buy G5 or other 2016 flagship phone
As lg phones are locked down, I'm not gonna buy it. The g2 is great and is still the greatest phone they made. But as a flashaholic and someone who likes modding their phone, an unlocked bootloader is very important to me. I only bought the g2 because it was such great value. It turned out to be such a powerful and fun little beast though with a great community as well. It was lightening in a bottle. But my criteria is a bit more strict now. I'll be sticking with the 1+ for a while
No need. I see no advantage to upgrading because my G2 can do everything I need it to. When I get another phone it'll be a nexus or the Asus Zenphone 2, whichever has the larger community.

With the G2 being a beast phone there's really not enough to convince me why I should upgrade to the G4 besides the Camera, Removable Battery and Expandable Storage. I live perfectly fine without a Removable Battery and Expandable Storage and the G2 has 32GB of Internal Memory and a 3000mAh battery.. so why bother? There's more chance of me getting a 1+ if I was going to upgrade. I have yet to experience a world with an unlocked bootloader.
Yay for capitalism!

This will more than likely happen.
G2 is great with me, but looking for better camera with G4.
FullHD is enough, 2k is not really necessary. More important thing is the battery life - which many people said that 2k display on G3 made the battery worse.
I think like the OP. I have a vs980 but I'm seriously thinking about jumping to T-Mobile. I thought I read last year that LG was going to allow unlocked bootloaders going forward with the G3. Given the fact that the G4 has a Snapdragon processor, an external SD card slot and removable batteries I'm thinking there is a lot of potential for a large dev community (especially since the S6 doesn't offer these things). We'll see.
No. I went back to the g2 from the g3 because I didn't like the size. I would get a g4 mini iff it was 5-5.2 and had a high end processor. As it stands now, the s6 and s6 edge look like more suitable replacements
I'm tired of drama
I'm not going to use LG anymore, LG does not satisfy me.
Having owned a few Android devices, I am getting a feeling that the best way to get android experience is to buy a Nexus device. The hardware and the price are only a part of the equation, although we know Nexus devices normally have a great price-performance relation. What makes Nexus so cool is having less pre-installed bloat or custumizations and it's pretty much guaranteed that for the next three years or so you will be the first in the line to get the android updates. Case in point is the stock ROM situation with the current G2. It gives you a glimpse of what it will be like to use the G4 18 months from now. Even though Lollipop 5.1 has come and gone, and the Nexus devices are now running the latest revision of Android 6.0.x, the G2 is still on 5.0.x. Another great example is my Samsung Galaxy Tab S tablet that I bought only a year ago. (This was Samsung's flagship tablet in 2014). Same story here. Still using 5.0, and I imagine Marshmallow is something like six months away and it will be the final update from Samsung. On the other hand, the ancient Nexus 7 is still getting Marshmallow updates.
I am currently using a sprint LG G4 which unfortunately I can't root because of the revision that came preloaded on the warranty replacement of my original that had some sort of bootloop defect that I guess never got a recall. But that's a story best left for another time. Suffice to say that since getting the replacement I have not been completely happy with the G4 any more and get increasingly frustrated with it. Should I replace it with a V20 (price $552 [24 monthly payments of $23)? I mainly play games like simpsons tapped out, avenger's academy, and a few similar games. The rest is your typical productivity use and web browsing. Thanks for any feedback.
so no interest for music whatsover?
in that case, I would say no, you should choose a different phone, depending on your budget, say a samsung s8 if your budget doesn't have a roof, or a g6 if you like Lg... or anything of the kind.
the v20 is a mean beast, I love it, but if you don't care for its hifi dac capabilities, why bother?? you get a sd820 SoC, which is the same you had on the Lg G5... If gaming and browsing is all you do, pick something else.
s8 if you want a sleek device with top tier features, or g6 which you could probably have for the same 550 usd you're willing to spend on the v20. g6's screen is technically improved (ratio is different, so that's something you need to consider), soc is slightly better and more efficient, looks better, better grip, no camera bump.
otherwise if the lack of b20 isn't an issue... mi6 its performance/price ratio is awesome!
bottom line: I'm into music, a lot, and I enjoy the big screen for netflix 1080p, so that's why I love my v20, it was the only possible choice I had. if you don't care about music, I think you'd be better off with some other device
You shouldn't get LG V20 because i don't think LG care about LG V20s software update anymore. So please don't get it. All the other phones are getting Android 7.1.2 we are still stuck in 7.0 .

ehm... just so you know, LG never cared about x.x1 and x.1 updates, so no, 99% we won't see 7.1.2 coming to our phones. but they usually grant 2 major updates, so android O and P should be the ones to keep an eye out for.
The V20 is a great phone and I do not regret picking this phone once the N7 debacle happened. That being said, if music is not a big focus for you, then the world is your oyster. My apprehension for you getting the v20 now is the cost ($23 for 24mos) and the standstill of development. There is not a lot of development for any LG device, but being this is becoming an "older" device, we will start seeing Devs dropping off to work on new projects for new devices. If you want LG, the G6 is a great phone and is $10 less a month on Sprint. Otherwise, the S8 is a hell of a phone for about the same price as the G6.

I agree with this list.. I did a ton of research to find a phone that had all the features I wanted... and this one fit almost every bill. I do wish Battery life was a little better.. but QuickCharge is amazing and i could always buy an extra battery to swap in at any time.
Coming from a g4? Absolutely the phone is a beast compared to the g4. The 808 processor is a piece of crap in terms of both performance and thermal.
I would pick the LG v20 if these features are the most important:
- removable battery
- secondary screen
- high quality audio
- want a highly customizable camera experience (lots of options to get that perfect photo)
Yes the processor isn't the fastest of the ones currently available but unless you have both processors in action in front of you you won't notice the difference between them in day to day operations.
The LG v20 is probably going to be the last of the removable battery phones if the preview of the v30 is any indication.

Yeah, $400 to $425 with some looking should get you a new V20.

I should add that root is a must given my experience with the G4. The longer development support of roms for whatever device I get the better. Ideally I would only upgrade to a new device about every 5 years. If they could be upgraded internally like PCs can I could get 7-8 years out of them before needing a complete replacement. Also I can't stand laggy software. Currently my experience with the G4 is that several games I play I have to open the recently used apps thing and click clear all so that it doesn't feel like I'm running them on below minimum system requirements. Sometimes it is so bad it's like I'm running the CPU at 200MHz instead of the 1.8GHz.

I've almost never used my smartphones for music. And when I do I have high quality headphones I use.

Budget is flexible. Especially if I can root and there is a lasting development base for updated roms supporting whatever device I get. If this were the case for me with the G4 I'd not even be considering replacement this soon after purchase. But I've not been able to root the G4 because it came preloaded with a not rootable version.

Oh wow the way sprint is advertising this it's like it was just released. Given this info I for sure am going to look at my options including shopping for a lower price if I decide to get the v20.

If you want LG, the G6 is a great phone and is $10 less a month on Sprint. Otherwise, the S8 is a hell of a phone for about the same price as the G6.

To date I have had samsung devices. The G4 was my first LG device. The reasoning behind getting it rather than another samsung was it looked like samsung was pulling an apple and doing minor hardware bumps and charging a fortune for them compared to the going price of the previous model. My main objection to getting a G6 is that I'm trading off certain things: removable battery, camera quality, sensors, for only CPU GPU and RAM bumps. All in all if I'm going to upgrade I need the new device to improve upon most everything related to how I use it. I don't take a lot of pictures but enough that a dependable well featured camera be in the device.
ok guys i own a p10, but i wanted to give one cellphone to my brothers for his birthday.
i got this two promotions:
One is for another p10 and the other one is for a LG G6
without considering the price, which of those two phones, should i take..
Hoping a sincere answer

Wish you had mentioned p10 plus or p10 lite. But overall p10 is rated 5 while LG G6 is a 4.4
One main camera wasn't enough for LG or Huawei, as both companies have outfitted their flagship phones with dual-back-camera setups. But even with that similarity, they function pretty differently. p10 offers higher MP with the camera. I suggest P10

Thanks for your answer, btw where can I see that rating for the phones ?
Depends.
I always loved clean Android and modding my device, flashing custom ROMs.
My last device was a Huawei. It was a good phone but I hated it for not having a Snapdragon processor. There was basically no development community and EMUI literally annoyed me after some month. I just love CM based ROMs too much for having a phone that I cannot modify properly.
But hey, that is like a pretty subjective thing and I don't know how development looks like on the P10. Hardware-wise, both device are a good choice for the price.
After own huawei p10 plus (6gb-128) , now i own the lg g6... I can tell you that i like most the lg
The camera in low light is worst than the huawei's ,but in day light its just amazing
Plus , you dont miss that 2 gb extra of ram neither a newer SoC
Snapdragon 821 is realy fast and i think that the gpu adreno is better than the huawei's mali
Maybe slow in charging the games but better game experience , in pes18 Huawei had too much lag , that doesnt happend with lg
Plus , it has ip68 (water resistant) and some military certification, better screen
Talking about battery life , i never had 6h with screen on time , i reach that with lg
After the lg g2, lg has had problems with its phones and has not had huge success and due to various restrictions lg is not the best phone, if you can look at other android phones based on his needs.

LG G6. Huawei has customer support issues.
I had a Nexus 6P and sold it for the LG G6 (Unlocked US997).
It is one of the best Android phones I've owned.
Based on needs and every android phone experience being mostly same I would go with the new Google pixel 2 not the XL, g6 has old soc and laggy at times for me. Pixel 2 has newest soc and gets updates the first of all androids and u get pure unmodified android experience.

Dude. The Pixel 2 is way more expensive than the G6. You can buy two LGs for the price of one Pixel. I don't think the benefits of the Pixel justify this price. I would not support Google in they price policy since they seem to become the new Apple. Also, the design of the Pixel 2 is horrible. Screen bezels are huge...

SD821 old?
It may be older, but it's a custom design with only about a 15% difference in performance between it and the 835.
Also the LG G6 is better thermally than about half the 835 based phones because it uses a heatpipe for cooling.
Back to back benchmarks don't see the throttling of the 835 based phones.
Also the design of the LG is much better than the Pixel 2. YMMV.
beginning from g3 all lg phones had malfunctions with reboots due to loose memory modules and screen retention in v20 and g4 reboot issues well known and they haven't publicly made any comments on how they fixed those issues and g6 is not safe from those problems either if owned for a couple of years ( if lg made public comments about how they fixed them I would trust them), and compared to Google phone in which u can simply unlock bootloader with command and modify it the way u like and lg makes a big deal of that by not allowing ( this is for people who know what they are doing), I have nothing against lg and I am currently using g6 for 5 months and not impressed with it that much. finally buying phones comes down to ones needs and with technology advancing rapidly one might not own the phone for long and it wont make much difference either to me.

With the G6 they certified them for mil spec.
From the LG site:
"Passed 14 different MIL-STD 810G Tests for durability conducted by an independent laboratory in U.S. that conforms to U.S. military standards. Device may not perform as tested in all conditions. Test performed in controlled environment. Do not attempt."
As far as the boot loader. At least they have some way to unlock non-carrier devices.
Some manufacturers don't allow it at all.
Anyhow this discussion seems to be going off track OP wanted a phone between a G6 and P10 it looks like, for an average user either phone should be good.
I'm thinking of upgrading my G6 to either the G7 or the V30. Is it worth going to the V30 given its age? I play a bit of games like Injustice 2, MKX, PubG, and some others, and I've been having a bad time gaming on the G6. Would either be better, or one more than the other? I've seen performance and CPU throttling issues on the G7 when it comes to gaming. I know the G7 has the 845 and the V30 has the 835, both which have to be better than the 821. Any advice you guys could send my way would be so appreciated.

Avoid LG.. No updates.. :crying: It's worse for Indian users. No Oreo update yet.
As soon as i can i will upgrade to a One Plus 6, i wont go for LG anymore..
I'd avoid LG at all costs. They're too slow with updates, even in the west.
If you INSIST on getting another LG phone, do some research beforehand and make sure you get a variant that can be flashed with a custom recovery so you can flash Lineage or something. Like I said, LG is too slow with updates, so you're gonna have to take matters into your own hands.
Go for one plus 6 its as powerful as G7 , even better in gaming and software update support at least 2 years not like Lg barley 1 year ?

Lol. Skip the name calling please, it's immature and unnecessary.
I am considering a G6 right now. My carrier is selling them for $360 on a 2 year interest free loan. That's a lot of phone for that money.
Well, either way, I went with the G7 today. It was between the 3 phones I had listed above because they are stocked by T-Mo. I couldn't get into the curved sides of the S9, and I just didn't want to get older tech with the V30 if I'm getting a new phone. Having the Quad DAC and the speaker on the G7 are what really pushed me to it, I downloaded my apps again and have to reinstall their data so we'll see how the gaming front is. It obviously comes with Oreo out of the box and had another system update before I even left the store, not to 8.1 of course. But, so far it's a better Oreo experience than my G6 was giving me. And I'm not too upset with notch which I thought would prove to be an issue.
I updated my g6 DS taiwan model with the g7 eu model tru lack of updates in 14 months. Now i am with lg again surpriced. G7 got may patch first and jumped to July patch yesterday. So in updates a big tumb up for once, Lg learned with newer devices and project trebble. Future tells more. I compared my needs with the OP6 for about 2 week and comparing manny other devices to like zenfone 5Z also wide angle and stereo, but lacks waterproof and to expencive for what it was.Like g6 the g7 is waterproof,BIG MUST HAVE for expensive phones to me. OP6 can handle a raindrop so underwater test failed it on YT.Also i prefer a wide angle over zoom lens, The expandable storage big plus .If a phone like oneplus crash , break or drown accidently you loose everthing. A sd card allways saves it i guese. The boomspeaker is pretty good on the g7,wireless charging and quad Dac audio 'OP6 do not'.Double tap to wake works better than OP6 to ive read. They also removed AOD, you still have on g7 if you prefer. Now On amazon Germany the G7 cost 564euro and oneplus 128gb 570euro and the 64 gb 519.So no excuse to me its more value for that price and im happy with the G7. The LM G710EM is also rootable.I was confused to buy a next LG, but not one phone is perfect but It runs smooth, no lags, pretty good battery life over g6 and awesome screen to me and updates should come faster now. But the price an features you get for almost same price as OP6 made it for me. This is my opinion on my needs. Only thing i could complane is the camera needs some improvements with focus, detail and swithing between main cameras.. OP6 did have problems to with camera first but got a update lately.
