Well, what do you guys think? Will we get Android N on our phones? Or could this be the end of the road for our Nexus 4.
Will android N be friendly to our ARM architecture compared to X64?
I guess time will tell but I wouldn't mind getting a bit more out of our beloved Nexus 4
would love to see it happen for sure

Agreed, I went with a fingerprint sensor phone (honor 5x), and quickly realized it is a gimmick. Back to nexus 4. I am still waiting on the true successor of Nexus 4. So I would like to see Nougat ported to our devices till an actual nexus devices comes around.

I (also) got a Nexus 5x at work for development because it's Nougat-primed.
Turns out I really dislike it and as a result will stick with my Nexus 4 for another year or two for personal use.
I use cyanogenmod 6.0/Marshmallow on it daily and really like that... had to upgrade to 6.0 to test against new apis. (This also made it easy to install tcpdump and other utilities at the linux level.)
For now, I don't see a new device in my immediate future.
Am hoping the Cyanogenmod install of Nougat will be as totally bulletproof as 6.0/Marshmallow has been. My view of Cyanogenmod is very high after using the install for six months.
Best,

That procedure was valid for marshmallow. It doesn't mean that a dev can simply re-use this plan for porting nougat to n4. :silly:

Good news. Just a minute ago beanstown (lead dev of PureNexus ROM) has started his manifest for Android 7.0: https://github.com/PureNexusProject/manifest/blob/n/default.xml
I guess that we could soon start compiling it for our mako as well. :fingers-crossed:

I was planning to replace the battery, but almost all comments on the internet say that the batteries are not good enough, and are low price clones, and after a month or two the battery is useless because it drains after few hours (2 or 3).
Do you have a trustful seller to share?

Nougat = more battery draining

im also very interested as to which phones will be supported...but not only that but how easy will it be to get your device supported...im over in Asia and there aren't variants that aren't well supported by the major custom rom developers like AOKP, CM, Panandroid....which makes it really hard and sucks to get in on the "open source" goodness...i hope Omni is easy to bring to a large selection of phones...
EDIT: ok, well that makes sense the vanilla versions...just hope its easier to get more on board...

Asian phones implying mediatek based? There are a few commits in Gerrit to add support for them, but I think it's still not usable. They'll do their best
As for not being supported. Unfortunately it's down to getting a device maintainer. There will be guides posted no doubt, and this is xda. Basically a massive manual on hacking android

If you can get AOSP to run on your device, you should be able to get Omni to run. Currently, a device tree needs nothing significant beyond an AOSP tree (I think about 3 lines of changes to make an AOSP tree work in Omni). This means work on porting Omni is helpful to those wanting AOSP as well.

Don't mind at all. I am pushing it to Github to make it easier for you guys. I'll also need to fix the repo remotes (unless someone else gets there first) so it pulls from Github.

I'm sure we'll see kitkat eventually for the inc. I've been tinkering with it just a bit myself. At this point Evervolv has a kitkat branch for the inc, but it is not in a buildable state. Stuff is still changing so fast that there's not a lot of point in digging into it real deep just yet.
I'm very glad that Google have given the opportunity for low ram devices to Run KitKat.. I hope Pons or Tiny will make KitKat rom very soon..Inc is still breathing !!
CM 11 for HTC Incredible
HTC Incredible "S" have got an unofficial build of CM 11 which gives Android Kitkat ahead of CyanogenMod's official release. Incredible "S" got just a little bit of RAM more than the dinc.. I really hope that some creates a rom for dinc soon... Come on !!

They're not the same SOC so they're not that similar.
Also, this point sounds like begging or on the borderline of demanding. This device is nearly dead. There are nowhere near the resources there used to be.
With that said, the evervolv team is working on KitKat for similar devices. Inc support will probably be added once we can get it building.

This is not meant to be rude in any way but please just let them work. There is nothing that devs hate more than questions about release dates and notes on what you think they should be addressing. I'm more than impressed at the simple fact that tiny and pons are considering spending time on this ancient hardware.

Be glad the developers want to still work on ROMs. You could just buy a new phone if you want to not deal with bugs. Battery life is going to be best on this phone on CM7 or Sense. That's how it's going to be. The newer OS'es are a lot more resources intensive just to run things.
While asking is kind of pointless, if this could be made into a reality, a useable one at that, my god that would be awesome. Also, on an unrelated note, do you go to OSU?

The KitKat builds are bigger than the previous versions, so there's not much room left in the /system partition.
You'll need the GApps Core from here: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?a=show&w=files&flid=9199
The core ones will give you just the basics to save space.
The full GApps won't fit on the small /system partition on our phone with the size of KitKat.
Thanks. So simply all i have is Playstore as an app and other stuff. The rest i will have to download right ? What about Google Experience Launcher (which replaces stock launcher) and other stuff like Google Keyboard ? In the official build will i be able to have the full G-apps ? Just a little clarification needed ? :silly:
So this is not the official release right ? I am really excited about this !! I just tried it out, it is damn snappy and super fast ! Great jobs devs !!
A few small probs i found are the videos are being recorded but is not shown in the gallery, And the external sd card is not shown (and cant access it)
By the way, dont think i am always complaining, i just saw some errors thats it, i hope they will be fixed on the official release..

http://officialandroid.blogspot.de/2015/03/android-51-unwrapping-new-lollipop.html
edit: It's true! It's rolling out after more than 3 month of waiting
Well someone mentioned it in another topic. I think we'll have to wait a few days (or weeks). Mostlikely we'll see a custom 5.1 first, as the source code is already published.
Anyways, I look forward and hope that the did something with the memory management. I looked at their changelog and saw that ~20 memory leaks was found and fixed. That is the major issue for me at the moment. Multitaksing with two tabs in Chrome and spotify playing along with FB+messenger is really horrible. Also I'm planning to run custom ROM/Kernel after they have been updated to 5.1.

Thanks again, but keep in mind that i just built it from source Chill, i wouldn't like to stop until official nightly builds.
What's the point? How is this any different from the other unofficial builds? Seems like a waste of time and a clutter of the development section unless some how this is different?

There is no difference from the other builds. I didn't say it's something special. Somewhere i agree with you. CM should be official now.

There are several unofficial builds out there, but no one makes the builds every day, or at least shares them. The two CM devs don't really share their builds everyday, so it is nice to have several options where the ROM is updated daily. Furthermore, if one build has an issue, it is possible to use another build in order to check weither the ROM is bugged or is the builder the culprit (bad repo sync, etc...).

Yup they don't, because they wanna wait till it's integrated into CM's Jenkins, auto/official builds. It takes too long to do by their own(It can take like an hour depending on the hardware)

Nah I made a little guide on how to build, and my build only take 10-15mins depending of the changes. The first build took around 2-3hours, but when you enable CCACHE, you reduce it a lot since it uses stuff from the last build.
For the HW, I'm using a VMWare workstation (virtual machine) with Ubuntu 16.XX, OS and software on SSD, VM on HHD (1Gb 7200rpm), i5 6500, 8Gb of RAM (5 given to VM, but seems to use more). For the repo sync, got a 30Mb/s wire (download speed is at 3Mb/s). So as you can see, it's not really a big big computer, I'm not even using my SSD for the building ^^

Yet it is a pain to do builds everyday on the same day. If you forget a day, people will complain and flame the hell out of you.(that's the XDA forums after all) This guy is really brave.
It's also hard to support people running 100's of different builds(Remember; CM doesn't even support their own official nightlies on their forums, you'll get your topic locked and/or downright ignored).

Hehe yeah true, you forget one day and BOOM, got everyone on your back. And CM doesn't support it yet because they may have issues with the number of servers or even in terms of stability, trademark, etc...

- Because the original question is stupid
- Android 10 isn't out yet
- You need to ask a maintainer if he is going to work on Android 10 for shamu

iam working on it if the build boot fine i need some testers iwill let you know soon
aosp android 10 r2 for shamu it will be soon lets hope
i will test if needed
I got it on my P2XL and its noticeably less laggy compared to Pie. The strange thing is that the animations feel a lot smoother which could potentially fix some issues if ported to the N6. Also I love the dark theme that's included.

I believe this will run better on the ageing N6 compared to native 10. But who knows..

Happy that people are continuing with N6. I can't bear the skinny screens & mono speaker of newer phones. Skinny screens suck.
If Moto or LG (don't trust other manus build quality) built a 6"+ stereo spkrs 16:9 phone I'd probably buy it used in a couple years for under $200.

I would keep to LG then because Moto is lenovo now and lenovo doesn't give a dahm about anything.

You can always hope, but you'll only know if shamu gets Android 10 if it is ready.
