Nexus 6p unresponsive screen with OS lock - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello Everyone,
I have an issue with my nexus 6p screen all of a sudden being unresponsive to touch. The big error on my part was not setting up my videos and images to automatically backup. So now what i'm trying to do is unlock the phone using ADB and a usb cable but haven't had any luck. I've gotten as far as listing my devices, which show up an unauthorized and seem I can only authorize it from my phone. Q1. is this true? Could there be any other way to authorize my phone, or am I out of luck and my data is kaput? I've also tried an OTG cable but it doesn't load since i'm guessing the OS has to fully load for the cable work.
Do I have any choice on saving my data with a USB cable and command line or can someone suggest a tool that would help me out of this situation?

Put it into fastboot/download mode and flash the latest TWRP recovery.
Use TWRP's file manager or ADB Pull commands to pull your data off. Use ADB push to push a new ROM image and flash over everything except userdata (back it up just in case).

[Q] USB mounting stock Nexus 4 with damaged screen

Hi everyone,
Today I dropped my Nexus 4 and the screen is cracked and completely unresponsive. The software is working fine, I'm just unable to use it because the touch screen doesn't work, only the volume and power buttons.
This is a stock Nexus 4 upgraded to Android 4.4. No custom ROM or recovery mode.
Also, the device doesn't automatically mount the filesystem when I plug it to my computer using the USB cable.
I've been trying to recover my photos and other files from the phone without success. The only thing I can do with the phone is boot in fastboot mode and enter the recovery mode. I can't make ADB recognize the phone except when I select the 'apply update from ADB' option, but then the only ADB command I can use is sideload.
Any ideas of what can I do to get my files back.
Thanks in advance.

Boot loop - fastboot/adp not working

Hi all, I dropped and broke the screen of my rooted Nexus 4. I purchased a replacement screen/digitizer, but when I turned on the phone after installing I found it in boot loop. I went into recovery mode and wiped cache partition, dalvik-cache, but that didn’t help. Then I did a factory reset, which didn’t solve the problem either. I must have wiped usb debugging because now I can’t get fastboot or adb commands to work and my computer doesn’t recognize my phone anymore. I can access recovery mode but I am still stuck in boot loop. Any way to get my phone running again, or at least able to get my phone and computer (Mac) to see each other again? Thanks!
Make sure you have latest adb and fastboot SDK files installed. Debugging has no link to fastboot.
Sent from my Nexus 4
I have latest adb and fastboot SDK files installed. I was able to use adb and fastboot commands before I wiped my device, but not anymore
So I ended up getting a new phone -- Zenfone 2 -- and devices wasn't showing up. On a whim, I tried a different USB cable today and it worked! I hooked up my Nexus 4 with this cable and it also worked! Could've been such an easy solution.
I really liked my Nexus 4 and was hoping to eek out another year or so out of it but now I'm out the cost of a digitizer/lcd and another $300 for the Zenfone 2, but I guess it'll become my backup phone. Just wanted give an update and warn others to try switching cables before writing it off like I did.

Touchscreen not responding -- How can I access and backup my files?

I'm having an issue where my touchscreen completely stopped responding to touches, but the physical buttons still work. I'm rooted and have TWRP installed. I'm trying to backup my files before reformatting. I have an OTG cable which i tried using with a mouse but it doesn't work. I'm not sure if it's because OTG isn't enabled by default? I'm currently able to unlock my phone using fingerprint and I'm already on wifi. I haven't restarted the phone yet because I'm afraid of getting stuck at the startup encryption screen that requires me to physically draw the unlock pattern.
I've had something similar happen a few months ago where I rebooted and wasn't able to get into the phone because of the startup lock screen. I followed a thread to delete the lock files but it ended up completely locking me out of the phone (due to new android security i guess) and in the end I had to reformat everything and lose all my data .
What's the best way to go about this now and either be able to get the OTG/mouse working or at least be able to access and backup all my data? Is there anything I should do before restarting while I can still access my phone using fingerprint unlock?
twrp should allow you to activate usb (think its on by default), that way you can make a nandroid and copy it to pc, as well as copy any photos etc from the internal storage

Ah.. thanks, I will try that!
Hi,
I have the same issue: my touchscreen stopped working a couple days ago, and I'm not able to enter my pattern. I have a USB-C mouse, TWRP 2.7.3 installed, my bootloader is unlocked, but for some reason I'm not able to use the mouse in TWRP. Any ideas?
Many thanks!
I found a solution to backup your data, even if USB OTG is disabled.
First, you need a mouse and an adapter. Personally, I bought this one from Amazon (France).
Second, you need to download the latest version of TWRP for cheeseburger.
Finally, plug your device to a computer and boot into fastboot. Open a terminal and type 'fastboot boot C:\path\to\twrp-cheeseburger.img'.
Your device reboots into recovery, and the USB mouse is working. Enter your pattern, mount Data and plug back the phone to your computer: you should see your data!
Hope this help.
adb backup -apk -shared -all -f backup-file.adb
adb restore backup-file.adb

Broke my screen, display isn't working, phone is bent.

Hey guys, my phone had a fall from a height and the screen shattered and the phone has bent. Customer care is saying there's no guarantee that phone will work even after changing the display, as the phone is bent.
I can hear notifications, vibrations and alarm is also working.
But not able to connect the my phone to PC as USB debugging if not enabled, mobile to tv through hdmi will not work because of usb 2.0.
Can someone let me know how can I connect my phone to pc so that I can backup the data
Any additional details would helpful:
Is your bootloader unlocked?
Are you running stock ROM?
Are you comfortable using command line utilities such as adb and fastboot?
Welcome to XDA
In the future use a good case and always redundantly backup your data.
The chances of damage to the mobo is high.
High G impacts can internally damage chipsets and break solder joints including hard to inspect/repair BGA chipsets. This was a high G loading impact. A good case spreads out the G loading making severe impacts survivable.
Don't invest a lot of money in trying repair this device. Even if repaired future problems may occur with the original mobo. Replacing the frame, display and especially mobo are cost prohibitive.
Sorry but you're probably better writing it off.
@SMcC2 :
Is your bootloader unlocked?
No
Are you running stock ROM?
No
Are you comfortable using command line utilities such as adb and fastboot?
Not exactly, I tried installing adb command line and tried to see the devices connected using it after connecting the phone with usb cable. But I guess since the usb debugging was disabled it didn't worked. No experience with fastboot yet.
Any help in retrieving the data will be appreciated.
Thanks @blackhawk, my priority is the data retrieval, tried some softwares for days recovery but they all require usb debugging to be enabled and drive approvals on the phone which will not work as my screen is shattered and display is not working.
Buy another one and swap your board in is the only option is see. Then again, I have taken my OnePlus 6t apart many times. It's not the hardest phone to disassemble. But expect to pay about $100-200 and know the possiblity exists that your data is toast. Or find someone you are willing to trust to hook up your board, pull your data and wipe it. I should make that a service. Lol.
Edit: just for shiggles sake, how/where is it bent? A pic would definitely aide in determining the PITA level. I destroyed one OP6t I had in similar fashion, but had BL unlocked, USB debugging enabled, and custom TWRP recovery so the hardest part was paying the cost for a new one for my broken one.

According to these articles:
Can We Enable USB Debugging using ADB Command?
Is there a way to enable USB debugging from fastboot?
It may be possible to enable ADB by modifying your build.prop and persistent_properties from recovery.
I tested and I was able to boot to recovery via physical buttons and then connect to TWRP command line and pull the files they say need to be edited.
*NOTE* Editing these files is dangerous and could cause the phone not to boot properly.
My process was:
Hold Vol+ Vol- and Power until you feel phone reboot to fastboot mode(short vibration here)
Vol -, Vol -, Power (reboot to Recovery)
Wait a minute or two...
Connect USB cable
adb shell
twrp decrypt *passcode*
*NOTE* If you're using a PIN number you can use the alphanumeric digits, if you're using a pattern you will need the details from the bottom of this link:
TWRP Commandline Guide
adb shell
mount /system_root
adb pull /system/build.prop
adb pull /data/property/persistent_properties
Open files in Notepad++, Make the edits, etc....

Redmi Note 7 with dead screen (with TWRP on it and ADB launching): how to recover data?

Hi all,
My mother's Redmi Note 7 have a broken screen and it seem to be somewhere in the motherboard rather than the screen itself (tried replacing the screen with a new one and the issue is still there).
There's TWRP on it, the phone seem to boot (I can see it on my PC, I just can't enable USB file transfer) and ADB seem to launch but get me an unauthorized error message. I'm trying to get it back (pull /sdcard/ for starter) and I know the decrypt password for /data/.
Is there a way to make it work through ADB despite the unauthorized message (already cleaned the key in .android and restarted)? Or can I remote in TWRP in some way? Last option I see is an OTG adapter for screen + mouse but the one I have from the PinePhone doesn't seem compatible so I don't know if other brand would work?
Thanks in advance!
