Galaxy Tab S2 (T817T) Marshmallow Update - Galaxy Tab S2 General

I found this on T-Mobile's site stating the update would be available starting today. https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-23647 Don't have my tablet to confirm. Has anyone with this tab checked for the update to confirm?

Thanks for confirming. I stumbled on the link just trying to see if I could find some eta on the update.

Just updated. Now time to root.

I saw this on T-Mobile's site a couple of days ago, but I'm on the fence about updating. I updated my Note 4 (910T) when MM came out and I'm used to it, but they removed the ability to alter the quick settings toggles (Samsung disabled system ui tuner) so you can no longer add hidden features like mobile data or VPN. While I can grudgingly live without it on the Note 4, I find it too handy to do without on the 817T. Unless someone finds a way around this, I'm staying put for the time being.

Just updated my T817T to MM.. thanks for the info. Updated and rooted as well with supersu 2.74

How did you root your T817T with MM? Did you already have TWRP and it was retained with the update and you just flashed SuperSu?

I flashed twrp 3.0.0.2 for t810 it works for marshmallow and then I flashed super su 2.74.
It was not retained after update. I flashed it via Odin again

I had issues with xposed and the machine becoming unresponsive. Had to reinstall and root. Works fine without xposed.

I have no issues with xposed .works perfect for me with wanam's xposed V86 for MM

Success!
Since I had installed TWRP and rooted, I could not update to MM. I re-flashed back to stock 5.1.1 with Odin and then was able to update to MM.
After the update I flashed the T815 TWRP with Odin (make sure you don't auto-reboot and boot into TWRP right after flashing to make it stick). Then I flashed the SuperSu 2.76 ZIP from TWRP.
So I now have a stock rooted 6.0.1 ROM. Everything seems to work fine for me. I can use LTE and even enable the mobile hotspot.

Its 4.05 bootloader still. Somehow in the zip its called bootloader-flo-flo-04.05.img
There's a new kernel, some changes in the source. Its compiled March 21
Not much else changed
Has any one got the ota yet ?
@Vkk187
ofc not.
Flash the stock image with NRT and check "dirty flash" and that will not delete your apps and data.
Yet to unlock my BL ...I know it's simple . Will do it some day [emoji18]
AonI updated to 5.1 rooted stock via TWRP a couple weeks ago.
Today I just got this update notification for 5.1
Is today's notification for 5.1.1? Because it only says 5.1

I just completely flash-all every time a new build comes out as I do not know how to side load using NRT or TWRP (am I wasting my time on doing it this way). If someone could please explain to me how to side load I would be forever grateful. I have searched and cannot find clear instructions or walk through on side loading
Having read wugfresh page,it says Since lollipop, its hard to sideload OTA now. I myself try it last night with my rooted stock recovery,it fails to install the OTA from google, even if file has been downloaded automatically. Its harder to get OTA install smoothly nowadays especially if you on lollipop. No choice had full flash without wipe. And reroot again.

Actually, it's just as easy sideloading as it's always been. The difference is that you can't sideload an OTA (or receive one in any way) if you've done any kind of alterations to the system. This includes rooting and/or flashing custom recoveries and kernels. Even if you unroot there are still residue alterations in your system, meaning you'll have to do a full system flash anyway.
It's worth mentioning that unlocking your bootloader does not prevent installing an OTA.

Rooting the TN7(P1640) with LP-5.1

I have a P1640 recently updated to lollipop 5.1. I was using a rooted 4.4.2(2.5) with TWRP-V3. I flashed the recovery image from 4.4.2 2.4.1, and then booted to apply the "OTA". From here 5.1 rebooted and installed, then updated everything. All apps survived with exception to xposed and superSU.
I rebooted to bootloader, and used fastboot to boot TWRP-V3 (no flashing). With TWRP, I was able to install superSU and reboot.
Now I have 5.1 rooted, and adaway updated

Hi there, i can't believe it. I also have a 1640 rooted on 4.4.2. Why should the OTA be come with image 2.4.1 and not 2.5? Thought the update to lollipop is only for the 1988 model? But by the way, it would be nice!

I had the 2.5 OTA on the tablet with TWRP-V3... I had to put a stock recovery on the tablet in order to run the 5.1 update. I did not backup my 2.5 recovery image, so I went with the next available recovery, from OTA 2.4.1
I really do hope that the 5.1 update is released soon, as it seem to be working perfectly. Antutu refused to work though, the test button did nothing.

Well, KK 4.4.2 was really getting laggy on me, this is when I went searching for updates. I ended up flashing EVERYTHING and starting with a new 4.4.2. This made the tablet like new. I used the TN7 as a satnav while I was out of the country for a few weeks, and was having a bad time with the GPS service failing randomly, needing a full reboot. Once I got back, I updated to 5.1 and installed GTA-SA... I played a bit on my way home the other day, and it was nice and smooth, as well as responsive.

What Custom Recovery to use w/ Lollipop 5.0.1 Rooted

I rooted my S4 ATT SGH-I337 yesterday with Kingroot while already having Lollipop 5.0.1. I then downloaded Flashify & Flashed ClockworkMod Recovery. Restarted my phone to goto recovery and I got a yellow triangle saying this phone has software unauthorized by att.
What Custom Recovery can I use and where can I find the latest version? Will TWRP work and also I've heard of something called Philz?
Oh and does bootloader have anything to do with this because when I rooted my S3 I never even knew or heard of bootloader.
Thanks in Advance

You will not be able to use a custom recovery because your bootloader is locked with no means of unlocking it or downgrading to an unlocked one. You have 2 tools that you can use, currently in lollipop. One is flashfire beta. If you ever purchased mobile Odin, you will be upgraded to the paid version for free. The other is safestrap. Safestrap isn't updated for lollipop but there is a workaround. Since you rooted with Kingroot, I'd suggest getting flashfire beta and then use it to flash the rooted 0C3 zip found in the OP of this thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...-to-update-to-i337oc3-5-0-1-keeproot-t3075814
The reason is that Kingroot seems shady and installs other crapware. Also, if you try to update to 0C4, it will fail with the Kingroot rooted lollipop. It won't with Muniz' method. Well, at least I know it won't with the stock rooted one. I'm still unsure if the deodexed one will cause the update to fail.

My question is what is 0C3? and what is 0C4?
I have the paid version of Flashfire beta
The reason I want a custom recovery is so i can make a backup of my phone and then flash a rom preferably Cyanogen Mod if they have it yet. I hate this touchwiz. But I wanna make a backup like i was able to wish Clockwork mod. Is FlashFire capable of making a complete backup? I see the Backup option but have no clue which to choose and or what it is backing up??????

OC3 is the original Lollipop distribution for the AT&T I337. OC4 is the patch update which is assumed to have corrected the stagefright bug.
I don't have the phone, so I don't use flashfire, but I understand that you can do most everything with it that you can do with CWM or TWRP.
The bootloader is locked, and you will not be able to install a custom recovery. You will also not be able to install a custom kernel, so no AOSP based roms can be installed either. You're stuck with Touchwiz based roms. Period.

No it won't. Only safestrap will work with the nc1 work around. Flashfire is great until you want to flash a rom with an aroma installer, then safestrap is the only option.

How to root samsung note 4 SM-N910C on android 6.0.1?

Recently I used odin to flash Russian marshmallow on my note 4 SM-N910C. I also flashed TWRP successfully.
I tried the usual rooting method with cf-autoroot but I got into bootloops. also I tried flashing the spacex kernel but the device didn't start up at all.
Now that I tried everything I know, is there any method to root it?
I had to go back to 5.1.1 and wait for rooting method for 6.0.1.
Any help will be appreciated.

Yes that's it. I have a strange issue though. If i flash MM manuall from the poland version......i can get that twrp to work.....if i take the OTA to MM from the poland Lollipop..... Then that twrp wont work......the reason this is an issue is because the OTA MM is faster and more fluid on my device than the odin tar......why idk. This is a strange case lol.

CF (N910c) did work for me, but after few days mysteriously stopped working. No SU binary could be found and therefore no root . Then i decided to root again but unsuccessfully. CF does what is supposed to do and after a phone reboots no root, so i tried this way and it worked: Flashed TWRP tar from odin, than flashed superSU zip from twrp. phone rebooted 2-3 times (this is normal) then when it booted, still did not work until i rebooted it once more manually and screen "android is upgrading" appeared for a few sec. After that everything works as is supposed to.
I have found this video on YouTube (Spanish but it contains download links in video description) and detailed explanation how to do it.

I have found this video on YouTube (Spanish but it contains download links in video description) and detailed explanation how to do it.

Yes i tried this first http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2897428
and it worked. After few days root acess somehow dissapeared. And i was not able to root again using cf root. I flash cf root, phone reboots, flash su binaries and reboots again. When it boots up again no root access. (Stock Android 6.0.1) Then i tried method i mentioned in a previous post and it worked.

Disappearing Root

Today marks the second day in a row that I have lost root. Yesterday I noticed that I didn't have root anymore and figured it was something I did, as I'm a bit of a nood and was trying to tweak some things. I spent all day yesterday on the forum and was able to get my phone on nought through the tmob rom in the roms and kernel section. Went to sleep while it was downloading my apps again and woke up without root again. Why is this happening?
If you're allowing SuperSU to update to the latest version you can lose root as a result. Stay on 2.79 or below. One possibility.

That is exactly what happened to me. I had to do the root.bat and all is well. I will not update until I get the all clear.

Look at the other lost root thread for the fix.

I'm on Galaxy S7 running 6.0.1 VZW, aside from wiping my phone, what can I do? Because that thread didn't help me.
Try re-rooting using the working root method, then flash the latest SuperSU v2.82 with FlashFire. Chainfire mentioned this will fix the issues of the previous update breaking root, except for Xperia devices. I can't guarantee this works as I'm on Nougat, but Chainfire is very reputable.
