success unlocked mi5 and mi max fdd bands - Xiaomi Mi Max Guides, News, & Discussion

previous mi5 and mi max only support fdd band 1,3,7
after unlocked
test fdd band 5 850,
work fine

What's the point telling us this and no "how to" or more info!?
I have seen this behavior on MIUI forum and I hate it... Here we do not do that. We share the knowledge...
Not that I care much about LTE but...

Interesting, more info would be great.

Trying this currently will report back, Seems to have made 0 difference still only getting H+
Took a few modifications because I couldnt find the Qualcomm HS-USB Diagnostics 9025 driver for the Mi Max only the 9091

Can you unlock lte B20 (800 Mhz) ?

Reading about this looks like enabling B20 won't make it work b/c missing in some low level configuration code in Mi Max... Will need more hacking...
@Neurom707, guide link is wrong... anyway let us know what works, please. Thanks.

No one has tried this yet?
I did some digging and according to this teardown we have two PAMs - Qorvo/RFMD RF7460 and RF8115. Couldn't find spec sheets but found this from two sources:

So looks like hardware supports the LTE bands we might be interested in. I am definitely doing this for LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 17. Will unlock work...? I won't know for another week or so.

Nope... It's not working for AT&T bands 2,4,17. Had Mi Max and Samsung Note 3 (those bands working) connected side by side to QXDM, compared and changed different NV items I thought might be relative... Bands gets enabled but not working.
I am not an expert so if this going to work ever(no hardware disabled bands and hardware capable) it needs a very good knowledge about configuring Qualcomm NV. I doubt we are going to see it anytime soon if any.
Something that might keep me interested in this is why and more important how is done that Indian official Mi Max has that extra LTE B5 band compared to Chinese Mi Max?! Flashed latest modem NON-HLOS.bin from official MIUI global developer ROM which changed nothing regarding B5 on CM13... Wondering which image file in the ROM contains efs(NV) partition if any? Does Xiaomi configures devices for Indian marked on factory floor?
Might need to flash the whole ROM to get the answer. I'll keep playing when I have time...
BTW restroing TWRP efs backup gets phone back to original NV state so not much risk playing with it.

It's disappointing that unlike kenzo, I've had no additional bands become available on the Mi Max after enabling them in NV settings.

Hi I was trying to unlock lte on mi 5. However, when i was on qxdm, i accidentally changed the value of rf_bc_config, which can be found in cdma category in nv browser. Now the phone doesn't have any signal. Can anyone please check the original value of rf_bc_config and tell me?
Thank you

Which band and where? Allow me not to believe without proof. I had no success over an year ago, also on AT&T all over US east of Mississippi. Not even once...

I work in Orlando Fl, but live in Daytona and get LTE in both places on band 5. Full disclosure is that for the last month or so I have retired the Mi Max to bedside tablet duty. I have 2 many phones and switch from an iPhone, S8, and V20. The Max doesn't make it into the rotation anymore but it is a great device!

modem hack for Chinese OPO to enable 3G

I thought I might post this in its own thread as it might save people time when they get their Chinese OPOs and notice WCDMA doesn't work..
For all those who don't know, the Chinese OPO does not support WCDMA/FDDLTE in its stock software configuration. You need to swap out the modem to a hacked modem in order to get the feature to work.
I believe the modem attached was pulled from a Find 7, I've tested it, it works. It has been running pretty well for the last week or so but I'll have to test it over the coming weeks to see how reliable it is. They claim 2G/3G but no 4G. 3G/2G works.

can you please explain step by step procedure for same?
so your saying that the chinese and world versions of the opo are the same hardware wise and its just a software modem difference?

I have chinese OPO using on T-Mobile in Hungary. 2G/3G/4G are working out of the box, just for you information.
So for three in the UK the Chinese opo might not work at it's best?
Edit: did some research for myself and it will work fine.
As I saw in one of threads on OPO forums it was explained that chinese version do not support only WCDMA band 4.
According to the wiki (UMTS_frequency_bands) this band is used only by following operators:
North America: USA(T-Mobile US, Cincinnati Bell, i wireless), Canada (Eastlink, Mobilicity, Vidéotron, Wind Mobile)
Latin America: Chile(VTR, Nextel), Colombia(TIGO, Movistar), Uruguay(Ancel), Perú(Movistar, Nextel)
The question is can the modem be flashed to support missing WCDMA band 4?
I just flashed the modem on my Chinese OPO and it works flawlessly with China Unicom's 4G service.
Has anyone tried to flash the CM11S factory image and see if that radio activated the bands? The CM11S factory image includes radio images, and I believe is flashed together as a whole.
Yes. Would like to know if the 1700 and 2100 frequency are activated after flashing the modem.

This is the hacked modem for China OPO that supports China Unicom networks.
I have made cwm zip for easiler install as CM would override the modem during OTA upgrades.
This modem comes from the chinese oneplus forum. See link: http://www.oneplusbbs.com/thread-429139-1-1.html
Code:

I have tried other networks with the modem from the ColorOS or CM rom, seems there is no restriction on WCDMA for other networks.

A few things,..
1. I've been lead to believe from various sources that the Intl. and Chinese versions of the OPO are in fact almost identical hardware wise.
see: http://www.gizchina.com/2014/06/12/differences-international-chinese-oneplus-one/
2. I don't have a 4G subscription in China so I cannot confirm whether or not it works with this modem hack.
3. I bought my Chinese OPO from a reseller here in China on Taobao. When I received it I immediately flashed it over to CM11s and subsequently had no 3g (I use WCDMA network China Unicom FYI) for a few days until I found the hacked modem on the Chinese OPO forums. As for those of you who are not in China, I've heard that many Int. resellers will complete this process for you so you won't need to do any flashing yourself, but I can't generalise for all of the sellers out there.
4. I cannot confirm is whether or not this is only some kind of restriction for Chinese wcdma networks (China unicom). I haven't as yet taken my OPO out of this country and tried an international sim card so that is yet to be determined.
ThExSenatoR> I'm curious about your phone configuration perhaps you could post which modem version you use printed from the about screen??
sasalove> are you saying that the Chinese OPO will work outside of China on other wcdma networks but will not work inside China on China Unicom with the stock modems from coloros and CM?
can anybody who uses China unicom on 4g confirm which modem you use and if you also had to flash a different modem in order to access the service?
With some testing, I'm quite confident to conclude the restriction for 3G is on China Unicom only. I got my CMHK and one2free sim to confirm it. I can use 3G and 4G without issue in HK.
I occasionally travel to mainland and I got both China Mobile and China Unicom 3G sim. Only the hacked modem got China Unicom 3G and meanwhile the CM modem cannot connect to the TD-SCDMA for China Mobile.
I'm still waiting for my 4G China Mobile to test TD-LTE...
So in any case, I decide to flash this hacked modem, as it seem to work for all to date...

The modem that come with CM11 should have WCDMA band 4 (1700 MHz) and should also have LTE band 4 (1700 MHz) and band 17 (700b MHz). According to the spec, the difference is supporting TD-SCDMA band 34 (2010-2025 MHz) / TD-LTE for band 39 (1900 MHz) for China. Other than that the spec matches both side.
Therefore, if anyone need band 4 and band 17, they should use the modem that come with CM11 which lack in the Chinese modems.

Thanks mate for clearing that up for me! So it seems that this restriction is only for China Unicom, why might that be I wonder? to my knowledge, It's not like the Chinese OPO's are being sold by China mobile directly...
I'd still like to test out 4G for China Unicom but I would like to find a cheap deal to do it. I can never seem to fully understand the mobile plans in China anybody got any suggestions as to how I might find a plan with a decent amount of data (at least 300mb) for less than 100yuan a month ??

Are we certain that the Chinese OPO has the EXACT SAME hardware as the international OPO sold by One plus?
I remember reading people claiming either side.
Just want to make sure that they indeed have the exact same hardware ie. Radio/modem and just need to have different ROM/modem firmware flashed to enable different bands ie. Band 4 (1700) in my case.
There is a newer hacked modem available. The author states the modem is based on CM12S while supporting all 3G/4G in China. Another user claims to test all of the network modes.

Cheers mate! On another note, can anyone confirm what their wifi/cellular peformance is like with either the original or hacked modems? Since I've pretty much only used the hacked modem (the one I posted at the start of the thread), I can add that performance wise, it's significantly worse than my computer and old iPhone 5 when using the wifi from my bedroom. Where I sit in my bedroom I get consistent full reception on my computer and used to get the same on my iPhone 5, on my OPO I get 1 or 2 bars at most irrespective of whether or not I use 2.4ghz or 5ghz...

There are limitations because of the hardware bits (RF amps) that are missing. For example if the radio works on LTE band 17 (DL 740Mhz, UL 710MHz), then it might be tricked to work in LTE band 12 (DL 737.5MHz, UL 707.5MHz), they are "close enough" to work.
Also I had a Alcatel phone that was sold by T-Mobile with one of the existing bands (LTE 5) de-activated because it was not used by T-Mobile. After unlocking the phone (legally) it would still work poorly on AT&T network - and then I was able to activate that band by using the above software - because the needed RF amps where already present inside.
LTE band 4 AWS is a special animal, the DL and UL frequencies are VERY far apart. Not matching anything else, so even if we can program the radio to work in those bands, the output RF amps will just not be able to perform.
List of frequencies: http://niviuk.free.fr/lte_band.php

I'd love to say that I understood you but I'm very ignorant about bands and frequencies.
I read that the QC SnapDragon 617 has a X8 LTE Modem (can't link because I'm new, but it's on the QC webpage) which has the Snapdragon Global All Mode, and it's supposed to support band 4 AWS. I don't know if that helps with the output RF amps, or I'm totally doomed.
Yes the X8 Modem supports the bands. But it needs something else to work. Those bits are soldered on the US version and not on the EU one. Similar, on the EU one there is band 20 that is not present on the US hardware.

it is Possible to unlock or change 4G bands or not??

Just wondering if I need to change the Modem file or something to make it work on another country as 4G
Same issue in the Netherlands with my Moto Plus. No 4G only G3 or lower
the weird thing is that no one knows if this is possible lol, no experts yet for moto g4 plus
Or it has multiple bands and it's unclear what you want to change. It has Edge HSPA and LTE for GSM and evdo and LTE for CMDA. That makes it a true world phone. Unless your variant does not support it.

No it's still stock android, though if i use my Galaxy s5 4G pops up immediately
Did not see any reason to use custom rom jet...
Got it fixed, call your provider and ask to reset QOS / data. 4G pops right up after restart.
For those wondering: it's not possible. One can technically unlock additional bands following QPST tutorials, and actually changes does stick, however model number cannot be changed which is the one that "tells" the device which bands to use. This has been my personal experience
It's not that. You can unlock the bands with QPST, but if the actual RF amplifiers cannot work on those bands, you won't get signal. One can be lucky if for example adds 800MHz band to a device that already has 850MHz, but the signal strength might be lower than expected.
http://www.radio-electronics.com/in...ong-term-evolution/lte-frequency-spectrum.php
I did "add" via Qualcomm software the EU band 20 to my US phone that had band 5, and I will be able to test it when I get there next week. The US phone has the other main two EU bands (bands 3 and 7, urban mostly).

So you're telling me there's a chance? I do have a XT1622 which has bands 1(2100), 3(1800), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 19(800), 20(800), 28(700), 40(2300). I'm trying to use it with band 4 (1700/2100), what should I try next then?
Band 4 is "special" because it has such a wide frequency difference between uplink and downlink that I doubt it will work. The UL for band 4 is the same like band 3, but the DL for band 4 is more like band 1.
Not sure if they can be "coupled" like that, it might... Qualcomm modem reprogramming - to get in that mode it's easy on our phones, Power on + Vol Up and then scroll to Qcom... You need the special software (2 pieces, both running in the same time on PC), don't ask me how, just search on XDA.

Looking for a smart watch that will run Android and be on the 1700/2100 Frequency

Currently I am on Freedom mobile in Canada. I am looking for a standalone smart watch that has the sim capability to run 3g, 4g, lte, whatever I can get basically. I currently have a DM98 and its a really cool smart watch, but the sim will not work in it as its the incorrect frequency. I would for sure need AWS 1700 band to allow 3g and lte on older devices I assume. If anyone knows what might work it would be great. - Frequency info here - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_Mobile#Radio_frequency_summary
700 MHz C block (upper) 13 LTE 4G Active / Being Deployed[102] Additional LTE band that will provide service in deeper buildings and hard to reach places. Acquired from Quebecor
1,700 MHz AWS 4 UMTS/HSDPA/HSPA+/DC-HSPA+/LTE 3G/4G Active (3G) Main band for providing 3G services. (LTE) Secondary Band that provides LTE for older devices.
1,700 MHz AWS-3 66 LTE 4G Active Primary band used for LTE service in all regions except eastern Ontario.
2,500 MHz IMT-E 7 LTE 4G Active/ Being Deployed[103] Main Band that will provide fastest LTE speeds for older devices. Acquired from Quebecor.
Thank you very much
Only ones I have found are possibly an intex which is small and dated and an LG Sports Watch 2 it looks like. If anyone has any options it would be great. Was hoping for some of the new ones like huawei smartwatch 2 but they are not compatible either. Real bummer.

No Band 71 Support On Exynos S10...

So it looks like non of the international S10 models will have support for T-Mobile's Band 71 (600mhz)... This isn't a required band to make a connection to LTE, but apparently this frequency will be utilized as a range extender, and for better wall penetration (indoor connectivity). Seems pretty important...
Is it possible to add support for this band via firmware? Or will there be a hardware limitation?
T-Mobiles lists all their LTE bands on their site as follows; 2, 4, 66, 5, 12, and 71
ALSO, does anyone have any information on where exactly this frequency will be used in the US? Is it really all that important?
Thanks!
