This has been solved!
Open the .tar.md5 file using 7zip and extract the System.ext4.img or something like that...
PS I Recommend Method 2 as it is easier
Method 1)
Then download Heimdall and copy the file (system) you extracted to the Heimdall folder and finally issue this command on the command line "heimdall flash --SYSTEM (name of the file you extracted)"
If you get any error with the drivers, make sure you are running as admin and if it still errors out go to the drivers folder, open the exe and install the libusbk drivers. If you need more help PM me.
Method 2)
Repack the system.ext4 or whatever as a .tar file using 7zip and flash it via ODIN.

Hey
So I have a note4: SM-N910F from a french Carrier, I was on the ANJ4 firmware, my phone is unlocked. I decided to flash it to make it work on my US GearVR following the advice of some redditors who after my many concerns have assured me it was low risk. I downloaded the ANK4 from another carrier and tried to flash it with Odin.
It failed and gave me the following error
"Volume size is too big 81920 < 512000
ODIN : Invalid Ext4 image"
The guy who's help I was following told me to clear cache and even gave me an explanation on how to do it. So I figured I'd just revert to my original firmware, which I have by flashing it back
EXCEPT! and here is the problem. Now my phone says 'Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery in Kies & try again.' - and I can't connect it to the computer! connecting doesn't work. It does DETECT IT when I plug it in, but then goes 'starting connection' till it says it didn't work. I tried other USB ports, I tried to reboot, I tried to reinstall USB drivers through Kies. I'm starting to be at a loss.
so I can't do anything in my phone and I can't connect it to a computer.
halp
(also I would love to avoid the obvious don't trust the internet people rhetoric, I'm past that and I knew the risks )
There is a reddit thread here: red dit.com/r/GearVR/comments/2poelk/to_flash_or_not_to_flash_that_is_the_question_to/cmyl01d
I put a spacebar between the 2 D of reddit because I can't put links in as a new user
EDIT IN THE PROCESS OF FIXING IT SUCCESSFULLY - can't find delete thread button
Better tell us how you solved then.
Sent from my SM-N910F using XDA Free mobile app
odin failed
Sur.
I am interested by the solution because i have the same issue while flashing carrier firmwares (orange ...) in odin (volume size too big 122000<512000)
invalid ext4 image.
It is ok for flashing country firmwares (xef, dbt ...).
Thank's for answering.
I was also having the same problem.
Here is how you solve it.
1. Download the stock firmware ending with .tar.md5.
2. rename it so it ends with .tar
3. Extract it using winrar to get recovery.img file
4. Download this tool (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2446269)
5. extract it also, and move the recovery.img file from step 3 and put it in the newly extract folder from step 4.
6. Click the ImgToTar.MD5.bat file and sit back.
7. You will now see a new file in there named "recovery.tar.md5"
8. flash this file with odin and your done!
Done above and flashed just the file recovery .tar. md5
All I get now is the Samsung logo... left the phone hanging like this for 30 minutes thinking it would boot up to beginning of phone..
Am I missing something?
Any help would be appreciated
Regards Braggster

I use Cf-autoroot for my model, and always i restart in recovery mode and say 'LRX22G.A300FUXXU1BOJ5', because the root file is for BOJ5 model, the new firmware i have install is BPC2. So what i did is extract tar file for firmware and take cache.img.ext4 and recovery.img, and reflash in odin only in tar, because md5 get invalid value error, and i dont get more recovery mode when i restart my phone, i think is solved, thanks for the help mate!
Hello guys, I am sorry If I annoyed you, but I got one question
If I tried to flash recovery via odin and it suddenly failed.. Will get my phone hard bricked? Like it's uneasy to unbrick it, also, can anyone tell me how to flash recovery via odin?
I got steps from a guy (I dont trust... he ruined my phone once):
1- Download Odin 3.xx
2- Download TWRP 3.0.2.0 for N910F (My phone)
3- Extract twrp files
4- Open odin and load TWRP files
5- Turn off phone and put in download mode
6- Start flash operation, when the phone reboots put it in recovery mode quickly
^ Will those steps work? Please someone help.

Hi TheDon772
As per TWRP installation instructions, you should be downloading a TAR file (xxxx.tar) that you should not EXTRACT it but use directly onto Odin.
Seems you should be using [ Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Qualcomm (trlte) ] right ?
Read the instructions in there ... no extraction.
Please advise.

Download this : https://mega.nz/#!IMFj0CAK!iVB3amQ1vesRuRpDwNHmc8zvUoL3nrPRXq1KanBdJJA
Unzip it
Put it in the AP (in Odin)
If fail then try use the included Odin in the stock ROM zip (but if you can access recovery, please factory reset first)

Extract the stock tar.md5 file.(using winrar or 7zip)
You will see a lot of files with .img at the end of them.
Rename the file "hidden.img" to "hidden.img.tar"
Go to odin and choose AP and find the file "hidden.img.tar" (in the extracted tar.md5 folder)
Click START
After that your device will show the android logo and it will looks like it's updating.
Leave it. Your phone will reboot after that. (If not then turn the phone on manually)
^^
Before i read your reply i unzip the file and delete Hidden file and i repack to tar file with 7zip
and start with odin and it Give me pass
but when reboot still stuck on logo
after that i tried your way
give me pass but still stuck on logo

Try using smart switch/kies and then go to "firmware initialization..." and restore your phone there
If not detect click the "reinstall driver" and reconnect your device.
If still not detect maybe you mess up something on your phone...
Still not working?
Hello, I'm not allowed to link to external links but I used Odin with "CF-Auto-Root-hero2lte-hero2ltexx-smg935f.zip" to flash my Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and Odin said "pass". After rebooting it gets stuck at the SAMSUNG logo.
I can hold pwr+home+voldown to get back into the download menu but flashing it again doesn't help either. I'm currently downloading a stock firmware zip file but it's 2 GB and will take some time.
Did I do anything wrong? I believe I followed the steps I had to:
Enabled dev mode.
Enabled OEM unlock.
Rebooted the phone into download mode.
Installed USB drivers for my PC.
Started Odin
Downloaded the "CF-Auto-Root-hero2lte-hero2ltexx-smg935f.zip", extracted it and selected the .md5.tar in "PA" in Odin.
Clicked start.
When it's rebooting I get "RECOVERY IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING" but that sounds like gibberish to me... no idea what that's supposed to mean.
is md5.tar file the smallest one of the 2 files in the .zip? I believe you should have used one which is simply .tar, not .md5.tar

The files in the zip file are "CF-Auto-Root-hero2lte-hero2ltexx-smg935f.tar.md5" and then there's also a copy of an old version of Odin (3.10.x).
You think I need to extra the .md5 file that is inside the .zip? I read some other people considering this and I believe they're only extracting the tar.md5 for curiousity's sake.
