China usually is much quicker. Well actually it's from Korea, the case, and I guess we gotta be really close to day 20. Anyway, what's the point now? One scratch/crack is the same as 100 as far as I'm concerned. It's a little crack actually connecting the upper left corner of the ear phone to the edge of the glass at the bezel right above the first little sensor whatever it is. So it's tiny almost but I'm not keeping it. I'm a baby like that. Hell yes, especially when I've forked up 600+ bones (is that what I paid about a month ago?) for it. If it was my skateboard that would be one thing, or my wife, or home, but my phone, that I buy a case for must be pristine right?
I don't know. I'll get black next time. Hey, which phone out there is faster? I'll miss the waterproof. And the dual cam is baddass. What do you guys think? I'm sure a replacement screen would cost me more than selling this one unlocked and lightly used then buying another used in mint condition as I want or a refurb, if one exists. Opinions? Couldn't this phone be one of the fastest in a few months with rom developments? If not then what? That htc one or something? Isn't this phone faster than the note 3? My benchmark results suggest so. Doesn't some company waterproof phones with a solution they dip it in or something? If I could waterproof that faster htc phone I may do that. With those two stereo speakers... Ef that fingerprint bs. 'Oh but you use it with PayPal' gag me with a spoon. Lol. Im 80's old.

If you are getting a new device, wait for the LG G3 - it will be superior in specs.
You just had to make my life that much more complicated. Thanks

I want those dual front speakers on the m8. Plus you can send it in to get waterproofed, which I'd do straight from ebay or wherever I'd buy it, and if its a touch faster than our s5 as it seems to be the impression I should be good for a while. And you can qi ready it too with an external receiver and case, which I'd need anyway. Hmm...

Could be. I'd wait for it.
Look for the leaked press images, it's very nice. Has a better screen and likely a better chipset than the S5 and M8.
Also, you are welcome

What about the speakers? I dont care about all that eye candy, my struggling eyes can barely appreciate this sweet screen ya know? I just went from hell to heaven from my s2 to my s5, I'm not sure I need much more. Ill wait a few days just to see what happens. Maybe itll come out in onky lime green, baby blue and hot pink in which case I'll pass.

Just read an article saying rumors stating either it COULD surpass the current champs in chipset dept, or just be similar, same as with the ram being either 3gigs or maybe just 2. So we'll see hopefully soon. I can't stand to look at my phone with its unhealable crack. Its disgusting. Spitoowee

I have the M8 and the S5. Look on youtube for M8 water test. One guy left it in his sink full of water for 30 minutes and it was fine. Great phone to. Better build, speakers, and it already has AOSP roms. *cough* Try out my Pacman build *cough*. The S5 does have a better camera though.

Cool, thanks. Hey, a better back camera yes, but I like how it's got this robust dual kick ass speakers/dual equally capable camera lenses plus some other features I didn't quite catch, and I'm not so all about the megapixels... until I need to zoom in during a video or crop a pic later ya know?
But tell me this possible deal breaker:
Can you record using both cameras as with our superb s5? Btw, did some vids at the pool underwater. Awesome cam. I guess the software might be secondary issue if as long as the hw supports it you could just find a camera app to emulate the one we have (?). So can it? Have you tested? Or is that standard these days? Haven't heard anyone rave about it other than me. I love the dual screen narrator and scenery/target effect.

If you are talking front and and rear cam recording at the same time yes. Theres a small box for the front camera that can be moved anywhere on the screen before filming. But the S5 cam is visibly better without zooming. Side by side the s5 has better colors and detail than the M8. If all you need it for is for quick snaps it is great. In low light its the best phone cam I have ever had, just dont plan on making any prints off of it.

And I did briefly try your rom on my s2. I didn't get a chance to try it out as I was rom hopping and ended up with the s5. new I'll make a note to check it out and if it works out well I'll make a note to donate. I love Gizmodo, but this review is kinda dubious. He states the phone is wider and taller than theNexus 6P. To me, it sounds like he's justifying why you don't need to upgrade from the 6P to the Pixel (which you don't)

I'm ok with him not liking or recommending it - that is his opinion after all.
But the way he wrote the article and it's tone was pretty amateur/immature if you ask me. Not what I would call professional journalism.

loved Wired guy's review:
"But I’m switching. For real. I’m turning off iMessage, re-buying apps, and warning friends that I probably won’t get their texts for a few days. I am a little worried about Google’s long-term commitment to this new hardware push (and the customer support that comes with it), given its propensity for killing products that don’t get billions of users. But I’m totally in love with the Pixel. I love this camera, I love Google Assistant, I love that I’ll get to use it with a comfy VR headset, I love that I finally get a version of Android that is both powerful and attractive. I love that there’s a kickass Android phone that (probably) doesn’t explode.
The immediate joke everyone, including me, made on Twitter after the Pixel launch was that Google made an iPhone. Well, that’s true. As it turns out, an iPhone running Android is exactly what I’ve been waiting for."

Water Test!!!
Im sure most of you, like myself wanted to know just how the Pixel's rating compared to that of the iPhone 7 and the S7. Check out this guy who was willing to sacrifice his Pixel in order to do a water test!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YojQneS6Yts
Wow! Totally caught me by surprise. I can't believe it lasted 30 minutes with no (immediately?) notable damage.
Id still rather not, even with a phone that is rated for it.
never tried my Z1 in water (got dropped in a puddle but never really tested it) and never tried my Note 7, doesn't matter how it's rated just not worth the test to me as if it does get wet and break a lot of firms wont honour the warranty for water damage.
LOL that was amazing.

yes its just a hidden feature i guess Google and Htc doesn't want to get in this whole waterproof warranty/guarantee mess i guess its really difficult to repair a waterproof or something like that
I would NOT guess that this is anywhere near truly water resistant yet. No teardown has mentioned anything close to water proofing features such as o-rings, etc.
It is good to know that it survived 30 minutes under water. No, it wasn't deep but it was completely submerged for 30 minutes. Make it water resistant for standard use and don't brag about it or encourage people to submerge it. I am sure that will help with "my phone isn't working after I took it snorkeling, but you guys said it was IP67" type complaints.
How do we know if it's ordinary water or distilled water? Hmmm... I'm no expert but I heard pure distilled water conducts electricity a lot less.
nice

I wonder if this is all part of an extended test?
If you remember last year there are alot of reports on how the iPhone 6s was was way more water resistant than previous versions, and teardowns confirmed that alot of rubber gaskets had been added internally, yet apple did not market this at all
I wonder if they implemented full water-resistance a year early and monitored the number of water damage repairs they saw to gauge the effectiveness of their solution, without loads of internal testing?
Maybe Google are doing the same?

Conspiracy?
So the other day I dropped my 6P right on the power button (while it was in my Speck case) and it caused it to get jammed in and unusable. Thankfully, Huawei said repair is covered by warranty, which I have a few months left of. This got me thinking, though, that if something were to happen again, would I buy this phone again?
The answer for me is absolutely. I bought my Graphite 64GB for $799 CAD, and in my Googling, I found the 128GB variant for $775 CAD on B&H. To me this is an absolute steal, and with the Pixel phones introducing iPhone-level prices, I wouldn't think again about owning another one of these. What do you guys think, would you hang on to the Nexus line as long as you can, or get something new?
I wouldn't. Using a Spigen case and keeping it in my front pocket, it has bent. Not enough to crack the screen (yet) but enough that I can see it. Especially by the power button and volume rocker. And the games I've been playing lately are PinOut and Auralux 2. Neither seem to be all that graphically intensive, but both are apparently intense enough to tax the SD810 processor and cause it to throttle from over heating. Much happier with my Pixel.
So what's the price of the Pixel XL if you wanted one of those?

I would buy a 6P with a better SoC and same design and price. I find Pixel's design ugly and boring as hell. It is also too expensive and with that price I would rather buy an iPhone. I like 6P's design and love the stereo speakers.
I just love the way the phone looks. Nice big display, front facing speakers and great low light pics. An updated processor and ois for video is all that is really needed. Wish Huawei would do a 3T with this one. With a black rhinoshield bumper, my black 6p looks sleek and stealth like...corny as that might sound.
May be future Pixel XL 2017 model.
I've only had mine for 4 days and finally had time to root tonite. I don't hate it yet.
I thought about the Pixel XL but couldn't get around the looks or the price point.
This has been my first phone ive owned for over a year and havent even thought of upgrading yet. The pixel looks like dog sh1t and the price tag is out of control. The battery dieing at random % bug is pissing me off lately, but besides that i truly love this device.
Coming from the LG G4 and Nexus 5 . I really liked and wanted a Pixel but the Price point kept me away. Found a 128gb 6p on B&H and decided to try. So Far so good. I would love to have some of the Pixel rom's features but really do not need assistant. Overall its a nice device and I would purchase again.
Yes I would and technically I did haha. I bought one in April of this year and had it up to August when the Note 7 came out. Sold it and got the N7 and had that for a month and we all know what happened there heh. Returned the Note and ended up buying another 6P. I was originally just getting it to hold me down until the Pixel XL, but once I saw what it had and it's price point, I was like "Nah".
The 6P imo is one of the best phones ever made. It was a good price, AOSP, plenty of mod support, great performance and my god the speakers?? I don't think I could get another device without front facing speakers.
Currently running it stock, unrooted on 7.1.1 and it's running problem free. Love it.

Install the Cortex ROM for the 6P. It brings the entire pixel phone experience and is probably the most stable and smoothest rom out there.

We know this may or will not happen. Huawei and Google have moved on. As long as Google is tied to a carrier the Pixel Phone will be priced very high.
Since the 6P was notorious for throttling with VR, when I came across a good deal on a 2 day old XL on Swappa I pounced on it.
I was wondering, would you buy a relaunched version of LG's old design language that made it well... LG...
G2 , G3 and G4 were all unmistakably LG and especially the G4 with the leather back is in my opinion still one of the best looking and best feeling phones if not the best feeling phones due to the slight curve, plastics sides (which believe it or not, I prefer to aluminium although something like titanium would be nice) and of course the Leather Back which is totally awesome.
Would you buy one? The LG G4's body, a little more refined and updated of course with the brand new 18:9 OLED screen and of course with that slight curve. LG should really use its marketing power then to say it ''curves to your hand'' which you know... it kinda does...
It's just for fun but who knows, maybe if we shout loud enough LG will listen because I really think they went wrong with the G5 and tried to play it so safe and fix it just to make the finance department happy...
Let me and the rest of XDA (and the world!) know your thoughts!
No because of the curves. Not usable on a flat surface.
No because of the buttons on the back. Not usable on a flat surface.
No because of the terrible battery life. LG did their best to make this phone drain battery from everywhere.
No because of the ghosting on the screen. Can't trust LG yo make something that lasts.
No because of the updates.
The new phones that came out in 2017 are so much better looking imo. I haven't felt all of them in my hands ofc but I prefer something that looks better on a case and I can trust to get the job done. LG can't deliver and because of that their phones are so much cheaper and that's the only reason I might consider getting one,as a desperate move.
Yes because of the combination of curved back, curved front, textured leather back, removable swapable back cover, removable swapable battery and finally love the volume buttons on the back. Absolutely the best power/vol+/- design I have ever seen or owned. Because of spare battery and fastcharge I never run out of power or have to put device in battery saver mode.
The G4 is my first top end phone. I was very reluctant to go high end because of cost and 5.5" screen but the design of the phone is such that any concerns I had about physical usability were mitigated by the design. I've never had a phone that I've dropped so rarely. I really only wanted a great camera and that is what I got plus with a big screen and descent processor I find I use it much more than I though and my laptop a lot less.
I know there was problems with this phone but that would be the point of a new version ! It would have to still have a curved back and buttons on the back for me keep my interest otherwise it wouldn't really be a G4 update.
Well this poll is a bit inaccurate because people who vote against most likely had bootloops, what if there was no bootloop you should admit it would have been a perfect phone because of what was mentioned in the post above, at the end of the day that's why we bought the phone
P.S. on top of that phone industry was hugely slowed down by 808/810 chips having almost no progress otherwise it would have been a beast unfortunately it became outdated too quickly
Even if there was no bootloop I would still not buy an updated G4. LG has a very bad policy with updates, unfortunately. I still use my G4 and I hope it will not bootloop. I have my eyes on the Nokia 8, even with the somewhat smaller screen and on a Huawei P10, although I do not like the smartphones that have a glass back.
G4 is good. G2 is best. I bought my G4 cause the G2's screen broke and the nearby Nokia/Orange mobile/Nameless services would charge me more than 100€ to repair it. Now i have some spare time, so my G2 will awaken after 8 months of laying in his box. Perfectly made phone. Battery life is insane even with a Li-Pol battery that has over 1000 cycles, screen is still up-to date with its resouliton, the only thing i would change is the RAM, i prefer 3GB. Anyways, LG is on a bad route, G6 has no benefits to G4, just the IP68, after 2 years of manufacturing. But!! in our country LG is the most price friendly, and i like their products, so no doubt, i'll update to G7, when it comes out in 2018
Definitely yes. I am on vacation, bought G6 here and still using G4. Camera is awesome, battery life for me, after it bootlooped and had mobo replaced is awesome and if I overdo photospheres and stuff I have spare battery.
On top of that it feels awesome in the hand!
The only gripe I have with it is relatively slow CPU/GPU and being unreliable due to potential bootloop

No for a curved design, using the phone in flat surface so annoying..
No if there is no fingerprint.. I wish something like V10, everything on the back or maybe something like Xperia Z5.. Everything on the right side of the phone including fingerprint..
No for a terrible screen quality.. I'll prefer the G3 screen more although it is too sharp and poor color reproduction but it is better than ghosting effect..
No for a speaker at the back.. I'll prefer more like my G2 and V20 or much better to have dual front speaker like my old HTC M7..
No for not having the dual-tone LED flash.. I hate the way photo taken by LED flash turn out to be yellow-ish.. Is those stupid orange sensor next to LED is just a gimmick?
No for a stupid update policy.. Too much secret in and there was no information about when the next update exact date will drop.. It's like a gamble game for G4 with Nougat.. Either we will get or only Korea will get it..
No for a super slow update.. Look, my G4 still don't get Nougat although the Beta was released a month ago and my V20 still using old security patches.. Why???
No for LG keep skipping update like their G3 which don't get 5.1.1 for an unknown reason and not forgetting the V20 too which don't get 7.1.1 again for an unknown reason.. Looks like LG developer are lazy these day..
I had a G4 that had a boot loop.. Fortunately, I purchased from Amazon and they refunded me (after sending it back to LG - and they sent it back because it was rooted)..
Still bought another G4 - because it's a good phone. Though the seller screwed me over by using a fake serial number on a reconditioned phone.. Amazon to the rescue again.. Refund.
Bought another one direct from them - with a proper serial number (and no boot loop) to replace it..
Working great..
I do like the G4.. For the price, it was superb..
If they released one with a slightly more efficient processor and better battery life AND at the right price point (I think paying £600 for a phone that'll last you 2 years is nuts) then fine..
Maybe, is the answer..

I've heard that you can fit some 3rd party battery that packs around 3800mAh and it has much better battery life

I'd buy one.
As long as the price doesn't reach the thousands.

The X can be replaced by any number i.e. the next gen flagship Snapdragon SOC
Anyone complaining about software updates should be happy
Some phones don't get a single update
