[INFO] Web sites for official roms

This is to summarize where to find full FXZ files (i.e. firmwares) for the Moto X 2014.
Motorola posts the recovery images at: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/recovery-images.
At the moment there are no recovery images for Moto X 2014. However Moto promised to post the image for Pure Edition.
There are "non official" sites with full FXZ:
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/ - it hasn't been updated in a while. There is only one FXZ at the moment (RETBR_XT1097)
http://motofirmware.com/ftp/ - look under the Victara folder. There are 7 FXZ at the moment
Are there any others sites ?
Great! I'm looking for yge Xt1092 version. Anyone knows were to find?

A simple bat/shell script is enough IMO.

what happens if we flash ROM of some other device like moto X style/G ?

There are so many ROMs out there, I was wondering what will happen if i flash moto x style or moto G ROMs on X play.?
Its obvious, it wont boot. The worse option it brick ur device.

Bad idea
Merely a Hard Brick, is the state of android device that occurs when your device won’t boot at all i.e. no boot loop, etc. This occurs due to trying to install ROM not made for your device or using ROM Manager incorrectly. This is more difficult to resolve.
Use only Stock ROM or Custom ROM, designed for your model of phone.

Was that really a question. I mean it's understandable enough.

Some similar models' files may destroy hardware when accessing it in a wrong way. For instance if you used the root zip for the Samsung Galaxy Note to root the Galaxy S3, the display controller was given too high voltage. Afterwards the touch screen does not respond at all until you replace the entire display unit.

That would be a good way to transform a perfectly working cellphone into a worthless piece of plastic and metal... That's what happened with my first cellphone, I learned from my mistake.
The ROM is specific to the hardware and infrastructure of each device, unlike say a general operating system installation which adapts to possible hardware combinations that it's installed on. As a result, your phone will not work and could become completely non-functional.

Best way to upgrade 7.0 to 8.1

What's the best, easiest way to upgrade manually from Android 7.0 to Oreo 8.1? I'm not getting OTG with 7.0, so I need to try something else without having to buy a new phone. I just spent money to have the charging port fixed, don't want to switch phones again, but need this feature. Thanks!

Which Kinzie phone do you have, Moto X Force or Droid Turbo 2?
You can root the Moto X force and there are some custom roms but not Oreo 8.1, I don't think. You cannot root Droid Turbo 2 at all.
Neither phone got past Nougat for stock firmware.

Oh Dang!! I have the Droid Turbo 2. So when I'm on YouTube and they're showing those videos that say "How to upgrade ANY Android phone to Oreo 8.1" they're not talking about DT2? What would happen if I tried it? Has anyone done it? Just curious. I'm thinking about getting a Moto G5 Plus if I can't upgrade. This one DEFINITELY has 8.1, correct?
Thanks for your replies!

No, if the phone can't be rooted (2015 "Kinzie" Droid Turbo 2) you can only use stock firmware.
If the phone can be rooted (2015 "Kinzie" Moto X Force), you're still dependent on what devs can and will do. The devs with the kernel skills needed to adapt last Kinzie Nougat stock kernel to run on Oreo 8.1 - - which then allows ROMs to be ported - - may wish to spend time on other devices.
The 2014 "Quark" (Droid Turbo/Moto Maxx/Moto Turbo) all have bootloader unlock and root, and they have a dev with those skills. So they have 8.1 ROMs, whikethr 2015 Kinzie phones do not.

All the QUARK ROMS are compatible with all Quarks.
Schooled!

Thanks for that education! I've been schooled, lol! OK, I guess I'm going for the Moto G5 Plus. I'm not happy with Nougat at all!
