Preview for Developers / Lumia 1020 issue - Windows Phone 8 Development and Hacking

I tried searching, but i cant find my particular problem on here and only posts about the error and no fix on any other external site.
1. I have an active dev account and can log into it just fine.
2. I cannot and have not been able to log into PFD on a phone since February. Almost like MS pulled support for the app, but you can still d/l it and install. It just keeps saying "to download the preview you must be registered as a windows phone developer", but i am.
3. I have a factory unlocked 1020 and its stuck on Update 1 and since i dont have an SD card slot, i cant use the CustomWPSystem path.
So, is there a fix for the PFD issue?
Is there a ROM i can flash for the Update 2 or some way to force it to download other than PFD?
irony is, i just used the CustomWPSystem way to update my 810, but i wasnt able to when i tried before.

No one? At all?

Windows Phone 8.1 update 2 isn't offered for old Lumias, so you can't install that, and also Preview for Developers is replaced with Windows Insider App.

Haha....Says the one who doesn't know the difference btw GDR1 and GDR2 aka Update 2.
You clearly asked about Update 2 and then you are saying about Denim. Do you actually know what you're talking? Go get informed and come back.

The 1020 gets Denim and Update 2 if youre on AT&T, but the unlocked ones for some reason are hit and miss and only get partial Denim with Update 1. Same on the 830, i forced it on my unlocked one using the CustomPFD update path. I also got update 2 on my 810 which never got the official 8.1 update at all, except through PFD. So, why dont you do some research?
PFD has not been replaced by WI, its still valid and in the Store, WI is for Win10 updates/upgrades.

Woah, only one person here claims that he got official GDR2 on AT&T 1020 while the rest of world are wondering on how to get update 2 installed on their phones, ofcourse they can get this verson 8.10.14234.375 with the impersonating phone hack.
Yes, you get the partial update becoz as I said MS never released update 2 to older Lumias except 1520, 1320. It is offered to new phones such as 830, 730, 735 and 930 and so on.
Check this link : http://www.windowscentral.com/windows-phone-81-update-2
PFD is replaced means that all the future builds updates of WP 8.2 will be offered through Windows Insider, technically its capability. It is valid in the store doesn't mean that it is currently active. I will again say do some research.

You are trying to install Update 2 via PDF app, aren't you? If so, then you can't, I think the last build that was offered via PFD is the current denim. Think about it, why doesn't people download it and install update 2 instead of trying the roundabout way that was given in the above link. So as of now, if you want to install GDR2 use the hack without sd card slot.

Do you have a link to the ffu?
Also Update 2 on my 810 made it wonky so i went to roll back to Update 1, totally forgetting that 8.1 was only on PFD and it went all the way back to 8.0 and Insider isnt available for 8.0. I can get a ROM dump from another phone so thats a moot point. It would be so much easier if PFD worked...

You are aware that MS hadn't released the official Denim firmware to old Lumia Phones, right? Currently, the stock rom available on their servers is Cyan. So Denim is offered only through Windows Update, which is kinda bummer. However if you want backup this rom (Denim) you have only one option i.e., through Windows Phone Internals.
This is the URL which is kinda risky, but nonetheless, it's easy to root 1020 and install GDR2 if you follow this step by step guide - impersonating phone hack

The 1020 gets a partial version of Denim:
http://www.mobileburn.com/24533/news/nokia-lumia-1020-finally-getting-lumia-denim-update-with-att
http://www.winbeta.org/news/lumia-denim-shows-us-att-phones-lumia-635-and-1020-are-updated-here
Also, when using WDRT it does in fact load Update 1 and Denim, and even has a notification "Welcome to Lumia Denim" once it was done updating all the apps.

Man...Like I said all of us having old lumias will only get Denim firmware via Windows Update (Did you see the bold character) not through WDRT (Stock ROM). How can you get Denim update via recovery tool? You might be imagining things.
BTW there is no partial version of Denim (Denim + 8.1 update 1)
After Denim there is minor firmware update to selected phones which comes with 8.1 update 2.
That's why I will say this again first do research, don't just blindly believe what you think is right.

Did you read either of those links? It gets Denim, but no Lumia Camera update and some other things are left out that im not exactly sure of. Also, ive been around here a lot longer than you and am not new to flashing or Windows devices, i just come here when i need assistance and cant find the answer anywhere else.

What the hell is this then - The 1020 gets Denim and Update 2 if youre on AT&T, but the unlocked ones for some reason are hit and miss and only get partial Denim with Update 1.
By the above statement as said by you it means full denim comes with 8.1 update 2. And dude seriously we aren't talking about that Lumia Camera 5 but GDR2, you are contradicting yourself and say you knew more than me. Just accept that what others said man...

Many people have reported of getting Update 2 on AT&T, but people with factory unlocked ones reported not being able to get it without PFD. Trust me, ive been researching this or the 830 for well over a year since i couldnt get LTE on my 810 which i hold as the best WP ever. With the prices of used ones coming down to under $100 from $200+ in the last 6 months, i cant pass up the op for one, even if just for the camera.

UPDATED: If you manually upgraded to 2.2. YOU WILL GET OTA : GOOGLE EMPLOYEE CONFIRMS

YAY MY STORY WAS POSTED TO ANDROID GUYS!!!
UPDATED: So I had to rush home after class and give everyone that definate answer that they long. This was in my email as I finally got a STRAIGHT answer from Google to the question
"Will the people that did the manual update to Froyo still receive the OTA, and did it void the warrenty? Can I get a straight Answer?"
Hi,
The answer is yes and no, respectively. When 2.2 (Froyo) is sent via OTA, everybody will get it, including those who have already manually updated to Froyo. No, your warranty is not voided by manually updating to Froyo. But we do recommend waiting for the OTA if you're still on 2.1 / Eclair.
Cheers,
Ben

I found some evidence that supports, all manual user will get the OTA, even if you updated manually.
Hi all,
Thanks for the responses!
Just wanted to give a heads up that the build floating around is not the official Froyo release. You will get an automatic notification when we OTA the build, no need to manually download it. You will still get the automatic notification if the official release is a newer version than the one you have, so don't sweat...but I'd highly recommend waiting for our official release
@Bhushan4181: You will get the OTA update as long as you are connected to the internet and can communicate with Google servers.
We are striving hard to OTA the build to you ASAP, thanks for your patience!
Gaurav.

From what I am TOLD as long as your manual update came from GOOGLE than it is still a LEGIT and offical update, just not the final, therefor you HAVE NOT voided your warrenty, and will most likely get the OTA so don't panic
P.S Those who did the manual update(me included) I would not worry about trying to roll back to 2.1. They sent out a test build via ota to testers, and when the final build comes i'm sure EVERYONE will get the OTA as it will have a different signature and what-not. How else would they get the final build to the testers?
Beautiful. Only thing missing now is a release date :|

I knew there would be at least one person that would point something out to try to kill the post cause they didn't find it first. Obviously it will be newer. The file that was MANUALLY downloaded was available to the media and what not, so what, they are never gonna get the final OTA. Its common sense. And like I siad even if by what slim chance you don't get the OTA, you will be able to push it manually.
Way to try to kill a post

For what ? so that they review it (Froyo) and write down all the bad or not working things ... it makes no sense , at least for me ...

[Q] Galaxy TAB firmware official upgrade to JJ7

Hi All,
I bought my galaxy tab yesterday from Currys UK. I have been a very happy user of HTC Desire and now i thought to move to bigger screen.
Today, when I connected my phone using Samsung Kies, it informed that there are new firmware (*JJ7) available for tab. My tab currently has firmware *JJ3. I am currently installing the upgrade using Kies but its kindda slow.
Few questions --
1. Firmware upgrade - I think it is same as we say ROM upgrade in HTC phones. Right?
2. In Desire, I used to get OTA (Over the air) upgrade. Is this not the case in Samsung? Will I always get updates via PC? if yes then what a shame?
3. Not sure what benefit I am gonna get after firmware upgrade but its good to be on latest official version.
Thanks in advance.

With the unofficial JM6 ROM (see the other discussion thread in this forum), there is a "Software Update" service that runs in the background, presumably to check for the latest available version of vendor-provided features...or maybe it checks for the latest Samsung stuff...not sure.
Let us know how it goes with the official firmware update.

Hi,
After firmware upgrade, i dont see any major difference, in fact i just used my new galaxy tab for few hrs so probably i would not be able to make a judgement what's the difference.
But its working very well. If you have any specific question then i can try to answer that.
One thing, I am using Google talk on my tab, messages are not in proper sorted order as per date. It's been sorted as per person which means I am getting all the other side messages on the top.
Could you please help me to figure out how can i rectify it or Do I need to upgrade my Gtalk App. Unfortunatly I am not getting this app in Mrket place.
Regards,
JM
Can you do me a favour, open your browser and go to the UK's PeakFM web site and see if you can view the page, click on any of the boxed links and navigate correctly through the web site.
I am finding certain web sites such as this and others are not being displayed correctly, so if the update has cured that I would jump at upgrading.
Thanks.

Have you seen the size of the firmware packages for the tab? Many people won't be too keen on downloading around 300MB over their cell connection.
Having to plug it into the PC once every few months is not that much of a chore.

No, all my apps are intact after applying the update.
I haven't seen the email app crash since the update (it used to crash reliably every 2nd time) and I haven't had the camera preview messed up either. Of course either of these might just be luck, but here's hoping.

I just updated the firmware.
All the bugs that i know of is still there, the browser lag, the video player thumbnail generation lag, etc.
Don't know what has been fixed here, unless i can see a changelog and test it.
My phone version has been updated from J16 to JJ1.
PDA JJ1 to JK3.
EDIT: The Gallery Loading is faster...ie. it generates the thumbnails almost instantly now. I have around 5-8 folders with over 1 GB of images inside.

That may be the case but Kies is an absolute nightmare.
I also have an SGS and when I applied an upgrade for Froyo on a stock SGS with nothing altered Kies 'bricked' the phone.
Luckily I could still do the 3-Button Recovery so managed to wipe the phone clean and use Odin with the upgrade ROM from samfirmware.com
As such I am no fan of Kies and not looking forward to connecting my Tab to it.
Question to everyone else who has done the upgrade ~ has anyone experienced any difficulties with Kies and the Tab?
I just upgraded also and can't really spot any changes so far. The upgrade did preserve everything, although I had to re-root. Oddly Opera Mobile was crashing a lot also (it hardly ever did prior to the upgrade), but an uninstall and reinstall seems to have fixed that.

How come I don't get the update in kies? It says my device is already running the latest firmware. I'm on an unlocked and unbranded euro version of the tab.

It's not because you've rooted anyway because I've done that and I got the update. Perhaps you really are already on the latest? My Tab is an unlocked one bought in the UK on the day of release and was running JJ3 originally.
It would appear the update is for JJ users as in JJ3 to JJ7.

Try telling that to someone who is running OS/X or Linux!
Yes, I know you can use a VM, but:
a) That *is* a chore!
b) You need to have a Windows license, which some people might not legally have.
EDIT: I see there is a Kies Mini now for OS/X users!
OTA is definitely the way to go IMHO.

I'm using OSX at the moment and am fine with having to boot into my win7 partition or use my WinXP VM if need be.
In order to download a 300MB file OTA, i'd either need to change my data plan to one that costs me an extra $30/month, or pay 10c/mb for data beyond my current cap. Not everywhere has good cellular data plans, although Europe, North America and Asis, would encompass >95% of their target market, so I can't imagine they'd care too much.
Obviously they _should_ support OSX users as it's a reasonable sized market, although probably most OSX users would be more likely to get an iPad as they're already suckling at the teat of Jobs. It's simply a USB/COM gateway, basically just an adb redirect, so other than the UI it's not like it's complicated for them to implement as most of the framework already exists in the SDK.

No comment from at&t and @lionelatdell doesn't want to give out a date.
So nothing, unfortunately.
I got mango on my att dell venue pro.. it is an unlocked one though.
Yeah krad we are talking SIM locked devices.
I'm not sure if this counts as Mango on AT&T, but for what it's worth...
http://www.shekhargovindarajan.com/...-non-developer-unlocked-dell-venue-pro-india/
If you go to that link and dissect it a bit, you can update your AT&T Venue Pro to Mango. My phone says it's on 7.5, and the OS version is 7.10.7720.68. I don't know if that is the real Mango or if it's just a Beta. Mine has been working great so far. It has all of the Mango features and stuff. I have an AT&T locked device. Hope this is relevant.
Also. I know that the link says it is to get on to the Mango Beta, but what I have now on my phone does not seem like a beta.
It is mango, but you are missing some of the mango specific firmware. Still should hold ya over till the real thing arrives.
Can't you do the unplug trick? It took me a while but I got it to work and my phone isn't even an official Venue Pro.

Works for Unlocked and T-mo units. No go for AT&T.
mango for all?
thinking about doing the mango for all process on an att venue pro
anyone know if the cleanup update will prepare my phone for the real update without restoring back to nodo?

After dell screwed up the compass app...not that i use the compass - it just shows how dumb they are, i updated my att dvp to mango 7720 last night using the beta rtm method here at xda. ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1215501 )
so now i have the .212 firmware and mango. Good enough for me.

I did the same. Just been unsure if I am still going to be able to get the .219 firmware update. Do you happen to know?
I was in the process of restoring when mango was being released just to make sure I got the best install possible but I accidently deleted my restore in the process. I have 7720 on my DVP though so I havent really cared and I havent had any issues with it so I doubt the firmware is really going to matter.
I'm not sure if the link is the same method I used it seems to have the steps I did.

people that had the rtm did not have to revert when official came out, so we should be fine. We get .212 & mango and dell gets time to get **** right. When the update is pushed we should have no probs.
Using the 7720 upgrade path
There's quite a few modifications and derivatives of the instructions in that thread. Did you follow the set on the top of the thread or did you need to make any of the adjustments to upgrade your Dell Venue Pro?
Thx

just needed steps 1-15, at that point i was on 7720. the downloads take forever but other than that it was painless
I can't get the update to work. Is it b/c I have a newer version of zune? I can't get past the part where you back up your phone. all i get is a flashing cursor.

Did you download the old version of zine from that thread? Uninstall your current zune, then install that one and begin.
When I did mine i did have a problem when trying to backup. When i clicked the updatewp.exe the box would just give me an error: updatewp.exe has stopped working.
to fix: “UpdateWP has stopped working”
This was despite following the instructions to the letter. Turns out they are both due to the UpdateWP setup not overwriting existing files if they are already there. If you get this problem then just go to your “Program files” > “Zune” folder and delete both the UpdateWP.exe and wm7update.dll files (mine were both dated April) and rerun the UpdateWP setup file.
Once i did that it was smooth sailing.
Great. I've unistalled my zune software and can't install this one. I kepp getting error that the it can't install becuase langauge packs aren't installing or something.
edit: finally got zune to reinstall. even though it was from the download it installed version 4.8.2345 instead. So when is the Titan coming to AT&T again?
I had no issues with the update...
I think the problem is with my registry and my Zune. The new version doesn't completely uninstall which causes problems with the older version installing. I've had zune since G1 brick and my settings have even traveled from XP to 7. My library huge and not even located on one drive. I don't want to use something like revo to completely uninstall and lose my settings and my syncs, which are for multiple devices.

Yeah, same goes for the AT&T version (v520), no root, no twrp, not even barely any discussions.. Smh, if AT&T didn't give it to me for free i'd probably have just gotten a Nexus lol.. At least you can have fun with those..
I was able to get adoptable storage with the update now with a few adb commands
What version is this Nougat? (letter letter letter number number letter, can also be known as build number, not 7.0 - version of Nougat is obvious enough)
I plan on building AOSP for this, but I would REALLY prefer to match the exact version.
And I can't just run the update on my tablet, it's rooted and unlocked and I don't think I know the procedure to relock it.
Never mind, it said 7.0.0-r1.

Just an FYI you don't need to relock your tablet to update. Just follow this guide :

I am pretty sure AT&T just released the Android 7 update. Mine is still downloading so i am not really sure if it is indeed Android 7 but it's a 1.2GB update. I was going to post a new thread to let everyone know who has the AT&T version but i can't as i am a new user
Edit- Yup. Mine is now running Android 7.0 with a December 1st security patch

Hmm, weird cuz mine keeps saying "your device is up to date" and it was last updated on January 10th.. But I'm still on 6.0.1..
EDIT: Also wanna add, I downloaded LG Bridge via a recommendation from another site that stated that was the only way the new update would be accepted, and that didn't work either.. When i click "Software Update" it says, "Cannot check the software version, Try again.", so I guess I'm s.o.l. for now..
I deactivated from AT&T when I switched to Verizon last month, but I still use it on WiFi and it works fine so I'm not sure why it's not working..

That is really strange. My guess would be is it hasn't been pushed out to every device yet. I happen to have checked for updates on the day AT&T pushed it out. Their website wasn't even updated yet when i got it. I wouldn't think deactivating it would cause it to lose the ability to update but i am kind of new to android so i am not 100% sure. I would just keep checking for updates or maybe contact AT&T and see if they could give you an answer. They do have a section in the Device Support to display information about software updates. I tried attaching a link to it but i can't as i have less than 10 posts. You can search on google AT&T software updates and it should be the top link. You'll then enter your device and scroll down to software updates. They do have a Troubleshoot and Resolve software updates page you could check out
Sweet. My fido v522 just completed its Nougat update. No more sluggish keyboard......for now. Lol

Thanks, it actually worked. The only difficulty I had was locating the SD card number. In the video the dude first says type sm lists-disk, however, when you actually look at the video later, he typed sm list-disks. That made all the difference.

Your Welcome ^_^
I notice Wi-Fi issues on my Fido V522 after the nougat update. It would get horrible wifi speeds with a AC 4X4 (1900) network and frequent network drops compared to Marshmallow.

Still didn't get the Android P update. Anyone can help?

So basically I've tried every method shown in YouTube or XDA on how to get the update but I still haven't received it. Should I worry about this or am I just a little impatient.
Important information:
After receiving the November 1st update my phone entered in a bootloop without any reason, I suspect it was due to the Google Cam app that I had installed while on 7.1 however I made it to 8.1 without having any issue so I doubt it. Anyway, after this bootloop I had no other option than to make a factory reset (loosing Gcam in the process). I was so pleased with the improvements the Google Cam made that I felt the necessity of installing it again. However, if used the same method that I did for the first time it would end in a factory reset since it had to unlock the bootloader. I found a solution on a thread which mentioned that this factory reset could be avoided if you press the volume down button while unlocking the bootloader. This worked fine. So what I did was unlock the bootloader, momentarily install Magisk, enable Camera2Api by flashing a module, uninstall Magisk and then lock the bootloader again. A restart later I had my phone working with Google Cam again (and still having to this day).
So my question is:
Could this affect in any way my OTA updates and be the reason why I'm not getting Android P?
Sorry for the long post but I had to make sure all this details were cleared.
I'll wait for a response :fingers-crossed:
You have seen all threads (both here and at miui.com) about broken networks?
The update was buggy, the phone should support LTE band 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20, 38, 40.
After Pie update it only supports 1, 3, 5, 40, 41.

That could be the reason of course...
But quite many of people complaining that they haven't received the update don't read the warnings about this (and previous version) beta release. - AFAIK it's not globally released as release yet...
I still haven´t received Android Q. Can somebody help me, please?

I was a little aware about those issues but it looked like it wasn't a big deal. But now that you talk about it feels like maybe I was wrong ??*. Guess I'll just wait and see what happens.
Thanks for the info.
PS: what I'm more interested in knowing now is if the process I followed could have affected the OTA's in any way

Update
Thanks for the replys.
I didn't want to sound desperate about the issue and if the update is having problems or bugs I don't know if I'm still very interested. I only created this thread to gather some information about the update since I can't really find any reputable source talking about it and didn't know if it is rolling live world wide o was just a beta leak like many people say.
Update 2
I have finally received the update via OTA without VPN method or anything. What should I do? I want to preserve 4G connection but I'm not really sure if the modem used in Android Pie has compatibility with my country's networks (I'm from Argentina)
i accidentally erase my backup rom in my phone..and now my phone dont have os..and i download rom online..but i couldn't flash it..always an error is flash..REMOTE PARTITION DOESN'T EXIST..what will i do?? do ineed to root my phone??
