Samsung+ bug causes app the crash - Samsung Galaxy J7 Guides, News, & Discussion

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gg.operatorinformation
This app might be useful to help some app devs get youre phone information its what samsung asked me to use for them. Anyways theres a bug which is crashing samsung+ and samsung is working on getting it fixed i esculated it through customer service enough to where the whole samsung team is going to look into it and get it fixed.. so if youre a samsung+ user you might wanna wait for a fix from the samsung team.. its only effecting a few galaxy j7 phones but they know about it now and are working on it.. it took a little effort to get to customer service to understand they need their devs to fix it but its all getting resolved they said to disable the app since its a system app until they get it fixed.

samsung captivate leaked firmware seems to fix gps issue

Good news, hopefully its legit and its software.....
Here's a video of proof. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJ65sS8nbRE&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Update on compass: jhego says it works, also says compass view works in google maps... he also used gps navigation for 15 mind straight without losing the route .... some good looking stuff...

Farkkkkk
If the GPS is fixed in this rom, can we have some crow for the people saying it's not fixable via firmware?

Neat.
Has anyone been able to test out the compass? Whoever is making these videos, could someone ask them to demo Google Sky Map / Street View?
but this isnt for the vibrant right? or can it be ported over since they are so close to each other?

I'm having the dude test the compass... also even if this exact thing don't work on vibrant.. its proof that its software and fixable
.. that's all I really wanna know...
Update on compass soon....
It's the firmware for the Captivate, which flashes for different radios and so forth. It could be ported, but it would be a lot of unnecessary work.
To be honest, I find the idea of flashing different ROMs to be stressful. I stopped using my jailbroken iPhone because I grew tired of keeping up with flashing and jumping through hoops. I just want Samsung to fix the phone with an OTA, so I can go back to my normal life.
So, we have no word on a fix for the Vibrant. But one can assume that a fix on AT&T will find itself on the T-Mobile device.

The fix is leaked from samsung .. we will get one too. Point again is its fixable, we never knew this before till now.
Although its still not been said if its 100% working.. could be a start though
No, it's a great piece of encouragement. Still, unless something is said soon, I will probably return my phone until the official fix is out. I can always purchase it again at a later date. It's encouraging to see a leak from Samsung fix the problem, but I'm sure you can understand: $500+ is a lot to spend on a phone.
Keep delivering the good news. Hopefully the Compass has been fixed as well. I really love TouchWiz, and was dreading the possible jump to HTC Sense.

don't recall anyone saying it couldn't be fixed - can you point us at one?
the consensus opinion has been no one knew whether it was firmware or software
and btw, while this is good news, we're not totally certain this is a permanent "fix"
if it's still working in 2 or 3 weeks for the folks that installed it, then it might be considered a fix

Regardless its getting 8 satellite locks for a lot of people .. that's never happened before ... this is a leak so not even official. So official may even be better ....
I was very concerned about the compass as I wasn't convinced that could be fixed via firmware basd on what I saw in the GPS service screens (seemed laggy even straight from the device). Eugene373 posted a fix to GPS for rooted phones here ://to.ly/5TFy (add http to follow the link). I installed it and it fixed both GPS and compass for me personally. This for me was proof positive tha there will be an official Samsung fix released to solve this issue.

Mine has been doing it for a couple of weeks and I finally got fedup with this routine and called TMO and complained. I'm getting a replacement Vibrant in 3 days or so but I'm not holding my breath on it working any better really although I hope that it won't freeze and reboot at least. This official fix can't come fast enough because this GPS caused freezing and rebooting is really getting to me at this point.

Bell Canada finally admit the GPS bug!!!

I bought a Galaxy S from Bell Canada in august. Made the update to JH2 trough kies. Had the GPS bug (locked fine, but was sometimes way off (1-3 streets off)).
I told Bell. They said they didn't know any GPS problem affecting their device.
I tried many differents things, but I still had the problem so I recorded tracks with both my Hero and my Galaxy S to prove that the Galaxy S has a bug.
I called Samsung. I told them that I had a bug with the GPS. They said that they were not aware of any GPS bug affecting the GT-i9000M (the canadian version).
I went to Bell and asked for a repair. Seems like I was the first in Canada to report the problem because they told me again that there was no report on such problem, so it must be a specific problem with my device. They give me a Samsung Omnia II for the time of the repair. Worst touch screen ever, almost useless compared to a Galaxy S.
My device came back "repaired" (what they did was a factory reset and allegedly a ROM update, but it was JH2 before and after the repair, so this is bull****). In short they did nothing but loose my time.
Of course, I still have the exact same bug, the repair guy probably didn't even test it.
I call Bell again. Shock! Horror! They admit that there is a problem with ALL Galaxy S. Finally! Not that I told them since August... And it's not only in Canada, according to the tech support agent, it affects devices from all around the world. And that I shouldn't worry because the update to 2.2 will be released everywhere in the world in November and will fix that. Great!
Oh wait. The update to 2.2 is already released in some parts of Europe. I am not even sure that it fixes the GPS. At least I have an audio recording of Bell telling me that the bug will be fixed with an update in November. Better than nothing I guess.
+1
Two thumbs up for your effort. Hopefully canadian sgs froyo update comes on November like the rest of the world....

sorry to say but some tech reps are more informed than others because they take time to do their own independant research. One tech i talked to barley knew a thing about the galaxy S, while another rep was fascinated by it and couldnt wait to get their own. Mine is in repair for faulty internal SD, lets hope froyo will fix the gps, as i didnt send it in for that issue.
Those who know something about the Galaxy S (and other smartphones) are the so-called "data" support.

I agree data support are the only ones that know anything. I called customer service like 5 times before they gave me someone that knew anything, ala data support.

Well, I think that of course the response is "we haven't heard about any bugs". It's business -- they aren't allowed to admit to anything unless an order comes from the top to announce that a certain bug .. or a few bugs have been found. I haven't seen any admittals from Samsung that SGS is slow, laggy and the 2.2 update is crap. Or that there are any bugs at all. That would crash sales.
Same here
I got pretty much the same info. been through the same ordeal. I don't think I can last til the end of november for a maybe fix that might not fix anything or might get pushed back to january or even february or??? At least now with them endorsing the issue it should not be as hard to fight for an exchange, maybe get a Z.....
root your bell sgs, go to /system/etc, open gps.conf
change from:
NTP_SERVER=north-america.pool.ntp.org

you don't even have to change *#1472365#*. I get lock to 10 sat in Montreal within 30sec. give it a try!

Well that's not the GPS bug I am talking about. My GPS locks just fine (as already said). The problem is that it is not always precise. But anyways xtra1.gpsonextra.net seems farther aways (mesured by ping times) than north-america.pool.ntp.org, so it should not fix anything.
And north-america.pool.ntp.org works just fine on my HTC Hero.

I am very curious as to what software you used to record that call?
You didn't use a Korean Galaxy S (SHW-M110S) by any chance, did you? Because its firmware has a native call recorder function that I would die to get my hands on, but unfortunately Samsung doesn't allow international Galaxy S users to flash to the Korean firmware Send me a PM if you know how to force flash it!

All companies do that. Focusing on all the bugs takes the attention from the good to the bad. Basic stuff. All the companies that made you any of the things you own operate on the same principle. This is business. This is life.
But this does not mean they are not working hard on fixing the issues -- believe me, they are. Our comments and complaints are very important in bringing these things out. Stuff that gets discussed here on XDA dev is _vital_.

Exchange Policy mods

Hi All,
just got myself a galaxy tab from Tesco's in the UK. Only popped out for a new paper and came home ~£470 poorer. Just need to break the news to my darling wife. Massively impressed with the tab, I do a lot of email & browsing on my htc desire so moving to a screen with 3 x the real estate is fantastic. The samsung apps also look pretty good (although haven't spent time playing).
Anyway, I'd stop rambling and ask the question.
Has anyone patched the Samsung equivalent of Email.apk yet to ignore the exchanges policies pushed down from the server? I want to side step the crazy password policies my company enforce (and replace with a pattern lock like on my desire)? Would love to install (as soon as I've read up on the rooting process!)
Please lets not get into a discussion of the rights and wrongs of doing this, we're not bill-jobsian WP7-iOS so I'd rather stick to technicalities rather than moralities ;-)
Many thanks
Matt
I also wait for the fix since a few days. But it seems that there are not so many affected users out there which have an Exchange 2010 SP1 in use.
I wrote already a mail to Samsung. I asked if they know the problem and are working on a solution. The answer was short: "we don't give support for Exchange"... Maybe they haven't understood the problem... I hope...
I already plan to hack it myself... Currently I use a 3rd party tool for Exchange Data... But it sucks that something like this is necessary. IMHO
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
It has nothing to do with the passwords, it is an EAS/Provision Problem for Android which is fixed in 2.2.1 and the funny thing is that my Galaxy S is working fine with the same Exchange, but the Tab is not, as i heard Sprint fixed that somehow.
I m really hoping for a solution too.

Verizon released Froyo for the Fascinate yesterday, but they just won't give it to you. Why? We're not sure. Maybe you didn't pay your bill on time, or maybe they're prejudiced against people with {insert your hair color here} hair. They can be pretty capricious that way.

Sounds like Cyanogenmod is stopping support of the Vibrant

Just saw this over on Google+ and didn't see it posted on here.
We are no longer supporting the Vibrant due to the inability to dial 911. We consider the issues related to this unresolvable without source code from Samsung related to the Radio interface layer and its interactions with the Audio layers and have taken the decision to no longer support this. We apologize for the inconvenience and strongly suggest that Vibrant users use a Samsung ROM due to the 911 issues with any ROMs based on open source code.

its the nice way of saying we are dropping support, they really dont have a good reason considering all that they really need to do is fix button mapping and release it, but since gps doesnt work 100% of the time they basically just said F*** it, thats my take, I'm sure that there will be kernels that are cm9 compatible and then we will just flash an I9000 version of the rom with a button mapped fix.
the best way to do it would be to create an update.zip that has a button fix in it so then we can just flash I9000 roms and then the button mapping fix but we'll see
So the 911 issue is specific to CM7 ROMs and not gingerbread ROMs for Vibrant in general? Do the new ICS ROMs have this problem?

I am sorry no - it isn't that simple. 911 calls, audio callbacks (and related GPS callbacks) aren't working correctly specifically on the Vibrant due to missing code in the Radio Interface layer and audio stacks. We don't have this code, we are unlikely to ever get this code. This was something we've been trying to fix for a while, and have finally given up. As a lot of other ROMs use our code, we'd rather not have CyanogenMod distributing a ROM that cannot do 911 calls correctly, even with disclaimers. The disclaimers will mean squat if someone actually has to call 911 and we strongly encourage you to stick with Samsung ROMs. Until we can fix this, this is off our supported device list and we are sorry about this.
This came to a head last evening after some unrelated threats, but an actual 911 operator who has been working with us to fix 911 calling made it clear to us just how dangerous this really is if Vibrant cannot do 911 calls, and we made the decision to stop support and remove the device from our supported list.
Yes, others can still build it - but it will not be CyanogenMod that does it. We're sorry about this.

Atinm you guys did the right thing. I appreciate everything you and everyone else working to bring CM on Vibrant did. However, no rom is worth risking someones life. I applaud you guys for making the right decision. I hope Samsung releases the source needed and we can get CM back on the Vibrant with working 911/GPS.
It may suck for us but its the right thing to do what if someone dies do to this then they could be sued and possibly mental stress on someone who is doing something for fun/free

Sounds like we all gotta put our heads together and fix the 911 bug

That's a pretty weak excuse to give up on development. People can add local emergency service numbers to their phone contacts

But they don't want to put out product that would put peoples life at risk an vibrant has no source so that makes it even harder so y waste a head ache

I was just thinking today that it may be time for a new phone... I guess this further suggests that the Vibrant is surely fading away.

I disagree. Local numbers don't do jack when you are out of town. To many what-ifs to worry about.
These guys supported our phones LONG after Samsung abandoned us. Credit where credit is due I say.

Another point to add is what if you didn't have cell reception? And you were lost in the woods? The only number you can contact is the emergency number which happens to be 911. So if you didn't have the option to call this # you are screwed big time.
I've been trying to research this 911 issue from a user's perspective for the past few days now, but I still have some questions unanswered. If anyone can answer them or point me in the right direction/thread I'd appreciate it.
First of all to reiterate something I learned, the issue isn't that you can't actually dial and connect to a 911 operator. The problem is that they won't be able to hear you and they wouldn't be able to get a GPS lock on your phone. Although I've also heard 911 calling does work for some people in some states.
Anyway, so my question is which specific ROMs actually support 911 calling? Is it JUST the offical stock ROMs? What about Froyo custom ROMs like Bioinix 1.3.1? I read from one Bioinix user that 911 does work, but I'm not sure if they're just guessing. Do these custom Froyo ROMs have this missing Samsung code (I'm guessing all GB ROMs don't)? Thanks!
