Samsung SD card not recognized - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Brand new AT&T Galaxy S7 Edge (SM-935A). Upgraded from AT&T Galaxy S5 (SM-G900A). I have a Samsung Pro 64gb microSDXC card (MB-MG64D). The S7 edge will not recognize the card at all. This is not the same issue as the constant mounting/unmounting I have read about, I cannot get the card to be recognized at all, even once. If I put it back in the S5, everything is fine. Also, an older SanDisk 4gb microSDHC does work in the S7 edge. Thinking it might be a hardware problem, despite the 4gb card working, I took it to the AT&T store. Employee tried the same 64gb microSDXC in his S7 active, it did not show up. Next went to Best Buy's "Samsung Experience" section. Employee there tried the problematic 64gb microSDXC card in her S7, once again it did not show up. I put it back in my S5, it works fine.
Ive tried the following, inserting the card in the S7 edge immediately after each one:
- Factory resetting the S7 edge
- Formatting the card as exFAT in Windows
- Formatting the card in the S5
- Wiping the MBR in linux (no partition table)
- Creating a 4gb partition and formatting as FAT32 (to mimick the SanDisk card that works)
I am baffled. The card was bought at Best Buy, I'm confident it is not fake, and it has worked just fine in my S5 and computers for almost 2 years. However, it works in none of the 3 S7 devices we've tried. However, my S7 edge sees the older SanDisk card just fine. All signs point to an incompatibility with the exact combination of phone and card, which is ironic because they are both Samsung branded. One thing I did notice is that this card (MB-MG64D) seems to be somewhat rare. It is UHS-1. It seems that the MB-MG64E, which is UHS-3, is much more common.
Any suggestions on what to try? Does anyone else happen to have this exact combination that can report if it is working for them?

Maybe try to format it with the pc software "SD formater" this helped the performance of my SanDisk card after I formated it in the s7 edge..
The card now runs fine without the eject etc.

Problems w/ 2GB Sandisk Mini-SD

Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone else is getting intermittent issues w/ their mini-SD card.
I've lost essentially all my data on my 2GB Sandisk on three separate occasions. I have formatted different ways (once w/ RescoExp, and then FAT32 on 2 computers), been v. careful closing my apps and minimizing the amount of writing to the card.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Sandisk's comments are as follows:
"This is a known issue with the devices when they work this way with 2GB and up memory cards. Usually in this cases you just need to contact the manufacturer of the device that you having issues with the reading on, to find out about compatability and what kind of firmware update do you need."
Thanks!
I haven't had any issues with my SanDisk 2gb card using my K-JAM.
Now on other pdas and with other cards, I have had the "lose everything" problem. Two reasons I had...storing email attachments on the and having the unit crash while accessing the card.
My onyl problem with the larger card is my laptop doesn't recognize it
I lost all of my data just last week off of my card, I went ahead ahd reformatted it again, not sure whats wrong with the 2gb cards

I haven't had a single issue with my 2GB TOPRAM card. I have had a few issues where the device doesn't see it (I assume) and renames the folder to Storage Card 2 and creates a new folder "STorage Card" with nothing there. It happens rarely and when it does, I just take the card out, rename the bad folder to StorageCardOld then insert the card again. This corrects the issue. I use the card very heavily and have had it since around the end of January.
I too have had this problem. I hope my suggestion helps.
I've had issues in the past with Sandisk flash cards. My problems were the same as yours until some helpful spark suggested I do a disk error check using windows (right click on drive in explorer>properties>Tools>Error Checking). Format the card and then run the disk check, apparently some Sandisk flash cards exhibit not so rare sector problems. His explanation (the science bit of which I have long since forgotten) was that that by running the disk check, the utility automatically marks the error causing sectors as unusable. The disk can then be used as normal after that, but any reformatting should have the disk check run again to mark the sectors once more.
This has helped me in 2 out of three occasions and so may or may not work for you. Still, I hope this solves your problem.
BS answer from Sandisk
Leighj, that's a BS answer from Sandisk. I guess it would never occur to them that your SD card is defective. Try another card in your machine or that card in another PDA phone if you have either of those options, but if not contact Sandisk and get a replacement. It should have a lifetime warranty, or at least several years.
Have to agree with iclick. My Sandisk cards were basically defective and how I got them running was a workaround and not a solution.
Yes - I wasn't too happy with their response either. Anyway, I just ran through error checking before & after reformatting. Hopefully that works - if not I'm off to shop for a new card. Either way, it's probably the last Sandisk mem card I purchase.
Thanks for your comments!
I have a Sandisk 2Gb Mini-SD as well and I've not had any issues with it so far. If it helps, I've left the card in the factory default format of FAT only - not FAT32. Try putting yours back to FAT and see if you still get any issues. Depending on what program you use the option you want might be labelled as FAT16 instead of just FAT.
I have Sandisk Ultra 2G miniSD, I don't have any problems untill recently. Whenever I try to add my storage capacity to more than 60%, 1GB or more, it gave me an error because the file is write protected and then not responding file transfer.
First, I taught my file is broken, but when I removed other files from the mini SD card and then add it ..... it's work. I used a factory Format type. Do anyone have this problems :?:
Well after contacted Sandisk customer services regarding my memory. They asked me to reformat my card and I did that. through my laptop, but it said that windows cannot complete the format. Now the card is dead.
Do the mini sd cards have a lock?
Do these cards have a lock on them? My old SD cards had a slider but I don't see one on the sandisk card.
The miniSD doesn't have a lock, but the miniSD-to-SD adapter does have a slider just like a real SD.
if i take my sd out for any reason it will often take a few goes to get it recognised by the mini s again. I have to remove/insert it as many as 10 times.

Sandisk 16GB broken

This is now my 3rd micro sd card that stops working.
In one year 3 cards stopped working 1 with blackstone and 2 with Leo.
What is wrong with this type of cards. Is it normal that they break so often????
Any tools you recommend to let them go live again (the card is totally unrecognized by the LEO)
Now I put the microSD card with adapter on computer, and it reads it but is very very slow. Any software tool recommended?
p.s. trying now to scan/fix/reformat and so on
many users are reporting that hd2 are corrupting memory card. mine too was corrupted. the problem is with hd2 itself. i was using sandisk 8gb in xperia x1 for 3 years without having any problem. my card lasted only 1 week in the hd2
it most definatley seems to be a problem, in which the HD2 is making memory cards dead. Regardless of their Size, Class and Brand

any user got this problem from other brand than sandisk?
yeah, am having the same problem here. when i try to copy data onto the card from my PC, it takes ages and then when i pop it into my HD2, it doesnt read the files. i have formatted the card over and over again. i have just purchased another 16gb card. i will let you know if i encounter the same problem again.
I haven't suffered a card failure in my HD2 yet but have with other phones and iPAQs. SanDisk and Lexar replaced the cards in question but didn't say what had happened to them.
I have had success recovering cards with Rescue Disk Pro but most failures like this cannot be fixed.
Ive been using the Sandisk 16gb mobile ultra class 4 card on my Leo and its been perfect since i bought it, fast and realible. Works just as well on my HD 1.
mine 16gb works like a charm.
p.s. flash cards tend to get corrupted if you dont use "eject" feature. at least sometimes it had happend that, not "ejecting" the usb flash, would result in complete data loss./

You are completely right, ive had a couple of incidents with my HTC HD and HTC HERO, where by altering the data of the sd card while it was out of the phone, it would corrup the information on the device, and not let me install any new programs, hard reset :S andd on my Hero constant safe mode :S
Anywho, Flunik is correct it would be much safer to eject safely from the computer, before, it might just save ou those sd cards.
I noticed that my card wouldn't work properly when it was formatted on a PC!
If I let the Leo format the card it runs fine!!

I try to put my Sandisk(16GB), Sandisk (8GB) and Toshiba card(16GB), both cannot recognize...
I had formatted both card on computer (FAT32), SAME!!
The cards can recognize on my computer...
Is there any problem on my Tab?
Thanks

IMO = In My Opinion. It's just a figure of speech, not a broken part of your tab.
I
I have exactly the same problem.
Some news?, has already solved the problem?
thanks
If its happening with several different cards, than it is almost surely something wrong with the tablet itself. I would recommend doing a factory reset, and maybe test the cards on other devices (cell, etc) to make sure that the cards are good. If the cards are good, and it still happens after a factory reset then you should look into repair, or replacement. (If its still in warranty, or return period)

[Q] SD cards suddenly not working

Hi. I bought my Note 3 last year in October and I used my 16GB class 4 SanDisk card. It worked perfectly, it's just that it was pretty slow when saving 1080p/4K videos.
So I decided to buy a 64GB class 10 SanDisk card from Amazon. But I had many problems with the card, images and videos were corrupted etc. Though when trying the card in other devices it worked fine. Also tested it in my computer with software that filled the card with 64GB of data to verify that it was 64GB. I also manually filled the card with 64GB of images and videos and nothing was corrupt.
So I decided to just use the phone without an SD card and that is what I have been doing for the last 5 months.
Now I wanted to use my 16GB card again but it isn't detected at all. I have tried three different cards but nothing happens. I have tried everything I can think of, factory reset amongst other things.
I'm using stock rom and it isn't rooted. Do you have an idea what could be the problem? Perhaps it's simply faulty somehow?

The myth is samsung devices works great with Samsung memory cards, and always have issue with other branded cards. I’ve been using many Samsung phones with Samsung cards and never ever had any issues.
The corrupted video files, data errors etc are surely due to the using of SanDisk card. But as its now not detected at all that I cant say. It could be an hardware issue too. But try with another card or few other cards, if its not detecting any of them then it’s a hardware issues.
But if it detect others then try/test any Samsung card before buying or get one I’m sure it will work perfectly.

Canadian Note 4 not recognizing any SIM card

Note 4 not recognizing any SIM card
Wondering if any of you experts out there can help me out.
I have the Canadian version (SM-N910W8) of the Note 4 (pretty much same as the T-Mobile version) which works fine except this one issue which is puzzling me. The phone will not recognize any SIM card (have tried many) but has no issues with SD cards or connecting to WiFi. I have gone so far as to replace the SD and Sim Card ribbon & antenna cables with new ones, tried official Samsung TouchWiz & custom ROMs but the issue persists.
There are many posts on the Internet about Samsung phones which stop recognizing SIM cards and asking users to re-insert it or reboot the phone but mine simply refuses to recognize any and all SIM cards. Have tried adding a piece of paper, tape, etc... on top of the SIM to no avail.
Any suggestions?
