If only it was that easy. No, you can't do that. At least not that way.
The primary reason that Samsung has a dozen and a half variant models is to deter grey market sales and block exactly what you wish to do. To do this you need to rewrite some non-volatile registers. LTE band 4 is more commonly known an AWS and it is the only band to be successfully added, AFAIK. At least to the S3, S4, N3, et al. I'm not sure if anyone has confirmed it on the S5 to date or not.
A proper search will confirm that for you. The change is made with the QPST program and written to NV, usually through a .qcn write or NV edit upon boot. You have lots of keywords to search on, so do a search and you'll find all of the details.
.
Hi fffft.
OK, I've read what you've written me a couple of times, however I can not understand you very well, since this is my first Android, you mind if I ask you a step by step explanation?
Thank you.

I was researching as you suggested and found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2291589 , however .qcn the file does not match my model, I tried to look on the web and can not find it, any ideas?
Hello everyone,
Sorry if this was posted already - I am typing this up in between other projects and I wanted to put something out here so I wouldn't forget. This last weekend, I purchased a used Galaxy S5 CDMA phone branded by US Cellular. I searched and searched for a way to unlock it but I was not able to find anything that worked for me. My phone is currently running Android 4.4.2 and none of the *# dial codes would do anything for me. Finally I was near a local US Cellular today so I brought my phone in and they unlocked the SIM for me so I can use it with other carriers. I haven't had a chance to go through the phone yet after the unlock, but I plan on looking at it tonight when I get home to find out if I can figure out how it was unlocked so I can share that info with anyone on the site who would like to unlock their SM-G900R4. I'm hoping that during their unlocking process, the hidden menus were left visible so I can look at the phone's file structure. I'll report back as soon as I know more.

Just a quick follow up... I didn't have a chance to go through my phone extensively last night, but I did see something that may or may not be of interest. When I got my phone back after being unlocked, there was an icon for mceFramework. When I clicked on it, it ran in the upper corner of the phone and when I swiped down it said it would be uninstalled. From what I have read about it, it has really nothing to do with the unlocking of the phone though.
Depending on what time I get home tonight will determine if I get to really dig into the phone tonight or not. I'm hoping there is something I will be able to find that will be useful. The US Cellular phone is a bit different though, as I mentioned before regarding the *# codes... No matter what *# codes I try, they do not work... even something as simple as *#060# does nothing on my phone - even after being unlocked. If I find something, I'll report back.

Hello, I came across this thread and just thought I'd share how I was able to unlock my Galaxy s5 Mini (US Cellular). I tried just about everything, but what finally worked was simply flashing the stock rom which can be found at the sammobile site. Use 'Odin', instructions included on the website.

Hello -- stock rom by model number. I think in most cases this is just stock Android for the carrier of specified model, minus bloatware and network lock. Well, I correct myself -- there may be some bloatware, but certainly less than what was there after performing the factory reset. The link to 'sm-g900r4' rom is at sammobile(dotcom), firmwares, search for model number -- and download latest version.
In my case, phone model is 'sm-g800r4' (US Cellular). Everywhere I looked online suggested that I had to contact US Cellular and request instructions for unlocking, but they will only do this if you have the original sim card. So, I finally flashed the stock rom using Odin, following very basic instructions (included on the rom site). After flashing, I still had the US Cellular splash screen, but my verizon sim suddenly worked with the device. Next step for me -- root and replace that ugly US Cellular splash screen with the gorgeous lollipop boot animation. Very nice.
If you need assistance with specific instructions let me know, and I can provide a quick summary.
Simple instructions, great site to join for US Cell users.

Did you ever figure out a way to unlock your phone?
Hello,
I received my Oneplus 2 today and it does not support the LTE Band 3. It`s the north USA Version and i would like to ask if anyone figured out a method to unlock the LTE Band 3 (1800mhz) . It`s because the Hardware of the Oneplus USA Version is the same like the European version.

That would be amazing if some one could figure that out. But as I did my research it seems that it's not possible that there's a hardware difference.

Should be the same procedure as the HTC M9 since they're the same processor. And for the prep work (drivers and enabling the modem diag mode) as in this thread for the OnePlus One.

Do the changes to the band stay after rebooting or upgrading the OS to a newer version? I wanted to unlock band 3 as well on my OP2.
I haven't tried writing the modem configuration yet to see if it sticks or not but was able connect the phone and read the configuration from it by following the instructions from the 2 posts I mentioned.
Say if you got Chinese oneplus 2 and changed software on it would it work on bands 20 I've seen this question asked before but can't find the post
Sent from my LG-H815 using XDA Free mobile app
anyone found a way to unlock band 3?
Have a look at this post
I suggest you to keep 3G instead of LTE because battery draining is so faster under LTE Mode. If you stay a place that have a poor LTE signal, that would be your battery killer.

Hi, this research includes some whitepaper research?, Does it actually has different hardware?, just wondering if someone knows this by solid proof?
To know if there is hope for us (Buyers of wrong OP2 version )
I'm using A2005 usa model in India and I'm unable to use it on Airtel 4G in India. When I spoke to the OnePlus customer service they said it will need to replace the motherboard as it's a Hardware issue. I'm waiting for the motherboard to arrive from china as they don't have it yet in India. So basically it's a Hardware issue on oneplus 2 unlike it's ancestors.

They will do it for free? Or what is the charge?
Ok, guys, I`ve unlock NVram to write. Now I can save any values to change enabled bands.
Intruction:
Requirements:
OnePlus 2 with TWRP and rooted.
QXDM Pro, drivers, etc, as described here http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/guide-unlock-aditional-bands-qualcomm-t2877031
Stock ROM OnePlus2Oxygen_14_OTA_011_all_1512111634.zip.
Attached file.
Just unzip attachment and replace file in ROM OnePlus2Oxygen_14_OTA_011_all_1512111634.zip, in RADIO folder. Flash via twrp.
After boot you will see warning "NV backup corrupted" or something like this, dont worry.
Use QXDM to change band as you want, reboot and check. Voilya. But LTE will not work, because it is hardware issue, lol.
A few words about attached file. I just unzip this file from stock ROM, search AC 1Ah (6828 little endian) and DB 08 (56072, US LTE band) together and replace DB 08 with DF 10. Dont ask, what I did, I dont know, lol. But it is work.

There is easier way to do that without corrupting the backup.
Simply change the value is QXDM.
Then in the phone dial *#268#
Press the NV parameters
Press the Static NV Force Backup.
This will copy the new values to the backup, and they will stick later on.
BTW, to be on the safe side, make sure to backup your dycnvbk, stanvbk and EFS.
Not working for me. Cause com.android.phone crash after dial. May be because my backup is corrupted. Later will try with stock backup. But thank you anyway.
I am using the stock image with the stock phone app.
I am using Mokee, chinese AOSP firmware. BTW, I just erased nv backup partition and keep playing with nv ram. Hope will not brick my phone ))
What version do you have? US/EU/CH?
In case you have EU, cab you PM me with qcn of your device?
Unfortunatelly I have US version.
I know a way to add bands in snapdragon 801 (i did in xiaomi mi note) never tried in OPT since it has all bands i need . but it should be the same. Search google for adding bands in mi note
These are guides for unlocking additional basebands on Qualcomm devices I want to try it on yotaphone 2 but I thought I would ask for advice first.

That's would be really cool for our YD206! I always thought that the lack of some bands was physical, so it's not and they are present in the motherboard?
Have someone tried it?
I found something that might be useful to the OP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/radio-enable-lte-band-3-nexus-5-d820-t2928561
edit qcn file
It looks like only way to modify, add LTE bands is by modifying qcn files.
It is working procedure for Oneplus3, for example
https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...ck-additional-lte-bands-t3519563#post70099218
Does anyone can do that? To add band 17, for example? we can supply original qcn.
what are the risks? why all are asking and no one do something? OR we all need a guide special for YOTA
Hello, guys, how are you ...?
I recently bought a galaxy s4 from verizon, as you know this device comes with the bootloader blocked so it does not allow changes in the system: (neither TWRP nor Roms anything, only root and module changes by flash fire) so I decided to buy a board of a SPH-L720 that works perfectly, until all very well the board brought stock rom and everything was great as far as wireless networks, so I decided to do root and change the recovery to install octos everything came out Good and booom! I had android 7.1.1 running on my sph l720, but there was a small problem THE MOBILE NET NOT WORKED anything 3g or 4g or anything, also in the settings did not allow to select preferred network type because it gave me a Error when doing it also with the code * # * # 4636 # * # * when selecting the gsm returned to LTE / CDMA and this was starting to annoy me so much because in my country CDMA is not useful and I was without service.
It happens that apparently the developers of this rom and the 10 most that proves they forgot to put in the build.pro the global network mode as preferred, so the cell phone only worked with LTE / CDMA and nothing else, so Try more than 20 ways install again stock and worked the network (but did not want stock wanted 7.1.1) so change the baseband and nothing at all this took me more than 4 days parting my eyes for a stupid error of the build. Prop so I found a tutorial on the net that gave me the link to a zip file flasheable by recovery and ready after 3 minutes select from 3g boomer and booom my cell running on 3g full and no signal decay thanks To all because I read all the help post and no one answered
Please send me imbox to pass the link since being new could not upload the link I will give them free

Hello Can you send link to me? I really need it. Mail: [email protected]
Idiots fall for anything.
I'm guessing that the OP was just spreading some BS, but I actually came here today looking for something that will allow GSM service on custom ROMs. My LG G3 just crapped out, so I had to get my 720T unlocked so I could use it on AT&T until I can afford to get something better. It works well enough on the stock ROM (although 3G kinda sucks) but it constantly switches between US Cellular and AT&T when I'm running a custom ROM, making it effectively useless.
Anyone know of any ROMs that can be flashed on the 720T that will enable GSM networks; any way to modify the popular ROMs floating around so they'll do what I need?
