Hey Guys,
I own an Indian Version, Moto G4 plus, 32GB variant.
Bug that i have been facing lately is that, while in call, the proximity sensor stops working, i.e. screen goes off while in call & i have to disconnect the call to get it back working. Also, restarting the phone enables it to behave normally, but this issue would re-occur any time again.
Thankfully, we have the feature to end call using power button, which i am using to overcome this.
I do have a tempered screen protector applied on the phone & i did check it is properly applied & doesn't interfere with the proximity sensor at all!!
Is anyone else also facing the same & can anyone of you help me to get this resolved ?
My guess is that it can only be resolved through a software update.
Also, my phone is stock, unrooted & bootloader is locked.
Thanks in advance.

moto g4 plus proximity sensor issue fixed
I have been a silent lurker on xda for too long.
time to give back to the community now.
Same problem with proximity sensor in my indian 3gb moto g plus.
I have found a solution, although it's not accurate.
First of all, boot into safe mode and try calling again,
if problem is there, your sensor is at fault, get it changed.
If calling works properly, then a 3rd party app is at fault.
remove all apps,
and begin installing them one by one.
I had alot of apps, hence can't pinpoint any specific app.
but if you follow this method, you can catch the app causing this problem.
My problem is fixed this way.
I am expecting a software update to address this issue soon.

Hi,
1. Same issue with my phone..Moto G4 Plus..bought it on 16th Aug.. and noticed this issue on 30th Aug.. so missed phone replacement date by 4 days..
Anyways..my problem is even worse.. screen goes black during call and unless other side person disconnects phone is unresponsive. . Once restarted problem gets resolved for time being.
2. Moreover I also observed one more related issuewhile playing World Cricket Championship... Just after playing it for 5mins..phone starts flickering and simply you can't play anymore.
I'm thinking to visit service centre now.

uninstalling which app solved the issue??
Im using MotoG4 plus (India). I can confirm that even after removing temper glass, problem persists. This is surely a software issue. Thinking of rooting and flashing a custom ROM now.

I have hadthis problem since I upgradedfrom at&t 1.6.. this problem manifests regardless of what rom iam running..
Basically, it happens after I use (either receive or make a call) the phone... if you bring the phone close to your face to activate the proximity sensor and turn off the screen, the screen never comes back on. No matter what I do, can't use the device after that... I know the device itself is NOT frozen because if the other part hangs up... I can still hear the notifications for email or other events and even hear the ringtone if someone calls... I just can't do anything about it because the screen stays dark and in responsive..
I went from at&t 1.6 with 31 baseband and firmware to 305 using QDL from sreakdroid..I immediately noticed the issue so thought I would upgrade to the official 318 but still had the same issue... I then went to Steve's 1.5.1 but still the same behavior... I have done data wipes and repeated the 305-318-1.5.1 upgrades with the issue present in all roms. . At this point Iam frustrated as the device cannot be used past the first phonecall..
Any ideas or help will be appreciated.
Try to recalibrate your screen bro.
Just did thescreen calibration... didn't solve the problemm... the fact that the problem happens only after/during a phone call leads me to blueberry somethingelse is causing it... there are no other issues with the screen prior to a phone call... plus I would think that I should be able to wake up the screen with the power button and even that doesn't work???
Is there a way to go back to US ATT 31 rom?

Hi guys
I recently bought an OnePlus 2. With the original firmware, I experienced a very strange and very annoying issue: My screen randomly turned off (e.g. during a chat in WhatsApp). The screen turns off and I have to turn it on again by pressing the power button. Then I enter my PIN to access my phone again and it locks AGAIN. This happens like 10 times in a row, then I have to reboot the phone and it was OK again. I seriously don't know what triggered this issue.
However, recently I got pissed of because I tried to call one of my customers and as soon as I entered my PIN and tried to open the phone app, the screen locked again and I almost threw away my phone. Damned troll.
So I decided to try another ROM as I thought it was an OS-related issue. Now I'm running Exodus Android 6.0.1. I did a clean install and guess what: The issue came back on this ROM...
In my opinion there's only something both installations (my previous 5.1.1 stock ROM and my current 6.0.1 ROM) have in common: I've been using XPosed with Amplify, Greenify and XPrivacy. Other than that, I have no idea what it might be.
Have you encountered the same or a similar issue? If so, were you able to solve it? How did you solve it?
I just uninstalled Amplify, as I think it stops somehow the Gyroscope service, that's why it locks randomly. I'll check if the issue appears again...
I think I have good news for you guys: I guess I was able to locate the issue.
I noticed it always happened when I was holding the phone in the hand I had a ring on my finger. Then I found out the phone has magnetic sensors (for flip covers).
I downloaded the Xposed module "Magnet Sensor Control", the bug hasn't appeared so far!
I hope I was able to help you guys with my findings. This thread may be closed now.
I have the LG V20 (vs995, Verizon). My flashlight stopped working. As did the flash for my camera. So I was like ok, I'll reboot. And I did.
After the reboot, the camera flash worked for the first photo. Then it doesn't turn on until I reboot again. And it won't turn on when I use the flashlight. It's the same result with 3rd party flashlight and camera apps too.
Has anyone else had this issue and more importantly if you have, how did you solve it?
Also, I have not updated the system software ever...

Yup, same issue here. After the 13a system update (January 2017), the flashlight/flash stopped working. If I restart the V20, the flashlight will work -- precisely once. After the first use, it stops working again. Since the flashlight app (the LG V20 onboard app) works ONCE with a restart, this strikes me as most likely a 'droid software bug related to the V20. Anyone over at LG paying attention to this annoying bug?

Try this:
In settings/apps select the camera. Force stop it. Then select storage. Clear data. This should clear cache also.
Shut the phone down. Pull battery. Put battery back in and reboot.
This has worked on other phones.

Thanks, but no joy. Forced stop to Camera; cleared data/cache. Powered LGV20 off, pulled battery. Reinserted battery, restarted. SAME RESULT. Flashlight worked ONCE. Then stopped working.
FYI, the bloom is really off what I thought would be a great phone. The speakers on the first one (from Verizon) blew up completely after the attempted and failed install of the 'droid 13a "security" update. I had the phone for not more than 90 days. Opted to replace it with a certified reconditioned LG V20 under warranty replacement. Now the flash and flashlight have failed due to 'droid update bugs after maybe 2 weeks. Nothing (!!) should be this complicated. Now what? Replacement phone #2?

Sounds like a Verizon issue possibly. I'm on TMO and haven't heard of anyone having this problem. And the OP is on Verizon also.
Verizon is known to screw up updates when they add their own stuff and it breaks other stuff . I remember when the HTC thunderbolt got an update and people who took it would get random reboots I believe. Call Verizon and ask for one of their tech people and talk with them about the issue. Then hopefully they can get Verizon programmers to come out with a patch. I would just wait as getting another phone won't fix the issue.

...just tapped out with a thumb or 2, please don't mind the abbreviations and grammatical faults.
Guys, I had the same issue on a US996, but I returned it and got an H990DS, it's easier. But you could also try flashing a new KDZ.
Resolved... Go to settings, application manager, camera, press turn off, then click storage, clear all storage. This should fix it.

Hello. I got exact same issue with my LG V20 VS995. The flashlight only works once after restart, no matter if you using camera or just flashlight. I've tried with factory reset, camera data clean up, even firmware downgrade but the problem is still there. Did you find any solution?

No solution yet...
Happened three times today that from the state of sleep phone's screen couldn't be turned on. At last i had to force reboot the phone to make it work. is anyone else facing the same?
No. Doing totally fine with mine. Maybe you have some installed app that is freezing your phone

Sounds like exactly the same as my problem. I might have found "fix" for this. There seems to be a bug or something in ambient display setting. After I deactivated (few days ago) it from screen settings I haven't had problems.
I also had this problem and it usually happens when im using ambient display. Turning ambient display off now ang testing it. Hopefully an update fixes this.
i faced similar issue.. two times.. and i feel that it was due to ambient display..
I guess it happens when the ambient display is live, and quickly you try to unlock using fingerprint.
Though i didnt disable the ambient display yet, i just add delay if i need to unlock when ambient display goes live .
But if it bugs me still, ill try switching off ambient display..

That doesn't help at all, I performed "calibration" - which is in fact just test of proximity sensor and 10 minutes later my screen froze. The only workaround was to disable Ambient display. However it has been fixed in the November update, I'm using Ambient display without any issues now.
I have turned on my ambient display after the Nov update and so far so good. Has been a week since and no black screen.

OK, I did both activities at about the same time (calibration and update) and it works fine now - no freeze with "ambient" turned on.
So correct, I cannot say which action helped I am just glad it works

Hi, I'm here facing the same problem. But I started to face this issue before android 10 update has arrived. After update, the issue is still there. So, I have made factory reset thrice. Still there is no use. So, I have visited service center, there they told me that to fix the issue, it will be costing around INR 4000. Thank god that at the time of purchase, I took extended warranty from Reliance digital, Three days ago they took the device and they told that repair will be done in 14 working days. Till now, I didn't know what was the exact problem but they are telling that mostly, it was a hardware problem. Hoping that the issue will be gone.
Hi, I got my device delivered today. And unfortunately the issue still persists... So, it is clear that it is not a hardware issue. I think that this issue was started from the last security patch of color os 6.
Same thing, this is a software issue.
Yes it's a software issue some people facing after cos6 c26 update
after f.10 update, the problem seems to be fixed, the phone is working smoothly now
