Hello
Sometimes i want to move file that's bigger then 4G to a sd-cart. Unfortunately FAT32 don't support this
So I asked google and google didn't know eather, but he gave me interesting project. Android-x86
Android-x86 supports NTFS as file system.
So i was wandering, if in kernel i turn module ntfs on, will i be possible to convert fat32 partition to ntfs?
will it work then?
[edit] I know I can change fat32 to ext3/4 but will it be mounted to /sd-cart/ so i'll be able to write/read it from the phone?[/edit]
really interesting any news about this???
anyway some notice about other platform??? how is it possible that still today don't exist an operative system for smartphone with filesystem support more than old fat32 4gb data??? this has no sense for me

I realise I'm replying to an old post but as there's been recent activity on this thread...
I'd just use an ext2 partition. If you're running A2SD you probably have one already. I run MCR 3.2 on my Hero & this partition is mounted (as a result of A2SD) on /system/sd & is obviously read/write. Max filesize under ext2/3 is 16GB for a 1KB blocksize.
anything happen with this? with the wealth of tablets coming out with the ability to mount host powered usb harddrives it would be great to be able to read/write (or even just read) ntfs natively within Android. formatting to Ext3 is the only option at the moment and is a bit of a ballache if i want to use the drive for anything else or take it to a friends etc.

Havent heard anything yet. But you can use the EXT2/3 FS driver for windows to make your life a little easier. I use it when I pull hdds out of my NAS.

Is there NTFS support for the LG GT540? I've tried it by formatting my SD card in the NTFS file system but my phone says that it has an unsupported file system. Is there any way to enable NTFS support?
why would you even need that? for big files, i would imagine, but imo ntfs is probably the worst choice - it's dead slow, and i don't expect it to work. i would go for a bigger sd-ext partition, though how you can upload files to that is beyond me. sorry i didn't answer your question, just my two cents...

Hey XDA,
Lately I've been wondering if it's possible to write to USB via the Nexus 10. I've been looking for a solution but I can't find anyone who actually got this question answered. I can read/copy from the USB via OTG to my nexus but I am not able to write/modify the files on the USB. The only thread I found what seems like something useful is this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1724078 but I have no idea how this works.
I'm using RootBox ROM (latest version), I'm rooted and I am using Solid Explorer to browse through my files.
Thanks!

It depends on what file system format the target media (e.g. SD Card) was formatted with. With a rooted device and a custom ROM you can get this type of support:
1) FAT16 or 32 has RW access but maximum file size of ~4GB
2) Ext2,3,4 has RW access but all ROMS do not automatically recognize these file format system formats
3) NTFS has RO access but here are instructions to add RW access capabilities
4) exFAT is a Microsoft proprietary format. An SD card formatted as exFat cannot be mounted/recognized.
A number of custom ROMs automatic mount file system formats 1-3. Rooted Stock ROM requires add on apps such as StickMount[/URL. Unrooted Stock ROM, to the best of my knowledge, only supports FAT16/32, is restricted to RO access and still needs an additional app.

I've found that thread myself too but I have no idea how to execute the steps.
Use ktmanta kernel and USB OTG helper app... Ktmanta has ntfs built in but you'll need the app to use it...
Just tested and works perfectly
Edit: make sure you have your storage device Unmounted from your native OTG or else you will get an error from the helper app... Took me a bit to figure that out

Thank you! I tried it and it worked. However I was unable to rename existing folders on the USB, neither could I create folders on the USB itself. Moving files from my nexus to the USB worked great.
Why isn't this build into a rom yet so you do not have to download apps haha.
What file manager are you using?
just letting you know, es file explorer lets me create and rename folders on my drive...

Like fully non-app OTG with NTFS write permissions? Can you give me some names?

I'm using the exact same! Anyways not such a big deal, at least I can copy stuff onto the USB now. Can't wait til RootBox gets auto mount + write permissions for NTFS usbs so I don't have to use the OTG helper app!
All I did to get RW on NTFS (on all ROMs that I've tried) was to install Stickmount(pro) and NTFS Mounter ! I've never really had a problem with it, just choose them as default if asked. Plus I have found if you run them both first before inserting the OTG it seems more liable to work.
Thought this might help
USB is in the directory - SDcard/usb storage/sda1

I used to have NTFS support with custom X-Note Kitkat rom with Lean Kernel. I use Paragon NTFS to have R/W access to my 2TB WD external drive formatted on NTFS.
Now I am on DarkLord rom and have tried different kernels but could not get R/w access to NTFS.
Can you help me with this problem?
Same here
Hi!
I'm on AryaMod 5.3 with arterkernel and Paragon and OTG Helper apps don't work for me too.
You can "fix" this problem in this way: install ES File explorer, got to > Locale > USB and mount your HDD!
So here's a quick solution to mount NTFS & exFAT via OTG or microSD without paid Paragon software.
Works without any app and with any file explorer that has otg support hassle-free .
[ROOT REQUIRED]
head over to this - thread.
download the attached file there, named "exfat-ntfs-patch-mtk.zip " and flash it via TWRP, you now have native NTFS & exFAT support.
I tested with 128GB exFAT USB drive and 1TB NTFS external HDD, works flawlessly.
Important : You have to enable init.d support on your rom(I enabled it using Kernel Adiutor app) .
You can find all required files for rooting the Elephone S8 at:
https://www.mediafire.com/file/k1ldc..._root.rar/file
I hope this helps.
