Hello guys, I want to install a custom ROM on a friends i9500, the problem is that when I try to flash TWRP via ODIN, the program flashes the image but when I want to enter the recovery, TWRP isn't installed.. instead factory recovery opens.. I tried ODIN v3.04 and v3.07 with same results
TWRP is donwloaded from the webpage.. any help? Thanks

Uncheck auto-reboot in Odin and flash again.
If help below don´t help flash CWM at the first of all and after that flash TWRP.zip
recovery is not seandroid enforcing i9505 resolved

I have an i9505 on 3 UK that has been rooted for over 6 months. I've been running the excellent TW based Echo Rom but wanted to try an ASOP rom but quickly wanted to revert.
I tried to restore my Nandroid but this failed and screwed up the phone (dont ask)so back to ODIN and i flashed back to stock 4.4.2 firmware for the UK via Sammobile (NG8)
Now back to square 1 so attempted to reroot with CF Autoroot again via ODIN. all show pass and i get the black screen on the phone with the red android logo and line stating stock recovery restored. I then used ODIN to flash Philz recovery again shown as Pass, however when i try to get into recovery i get some small white text on the bkack background that is there too briefly to read before the phone reboots as normal.
The Su superuser app is there but states the Su binary is outdated and the phone has no root access.
Ive read a few methods to get round this but they all seem to follow the same process ive tried a few times now.
The Rom for Echoe is auto root so id have thought if i could get to recovery somehow i could just flash this ?
Any one any views or have i screwed up for good ? .
You will be fine.
If you want to flash a custom rom anyway the shortest way would be to just flash the custom recovery. You don't need root for that.
Uncheck auto-reboot before you flash the recovery and it should work.

so i reflashed Philz recovery and unchecked auto reboot. This then gives me PASS in ODIN. I guess then i unplug and try and activate recovery - but still nothing...it just boots up normally ?

What is the model descriped when you are in download mode?
What is the exact version of Philz you are trying to flash?

GTI9505...(Bootloader i9505xxegng8)
Originally I tried philz_touch_5.15.8-i9505.tar.md5
and then updated to philz_touch_6.23.9-i9505.tar.md5 with no avail.
Try redownloading it. If you say that if passes, then it should just work.
If it still fails then try TWRP. Uncheck auto-reboot before flashing.
Could it be connected to me flashing a generic unlocked UK firmware on a 3 UK handset ?
That's sorted it ! Flashed CWM recovery and am now running Echoes v28.

I wont be changing roms for a while but I guess if I did I won't lose root ?

did you enable usb debugging ? and maybe try to uncheck the auto reboot at odin and after you flash and pass , just removed your battery a while then plug it again then turn it on...
i use the same file for root but it's work and for some user it's cause bootloop....
You don't need USB debugging enabled for CF AR

Before I started rooting, I tried flashing cwm custom recovery but no luck. I can't boot to stock recovery. I waited for 30sec but it just stay in samsung logo with powered by android under it. Please help..
Why you trying to boot into stock recovery?
Flash a stock ROM again, then follow the instructions on the link I posted

I disable USB debugging then tried flashing TWRP recovery via Odin. After flashing, I remove the battery then boot into the recovery and waited for 30 seconds but the phone is still stuck with the samsung logo. I will try to clean flash stock recovery and try flashing again the custom recovery.

I successfully flashed CWM recovery but the problem is, the recovery can't detect my storage. Internal nor external. What seems to be the problem this time? :crying:

perhaps the file is corrupted,i have had the same issue and dl another file and it's ok

Stock recovery has a defense mechanism to reflash it back.
You need to untick Auto-Reboot in Odin.
That being said, the phone wont just leave download mode, you have to do it yourself with Volume Down + Power for like 10 seconds (it will power off, so release your fingers when it's off ). This is a life saver for phones that dont have a removable battery.

Is Odin reporting the flash successful? Does it PASS in the end?
Also, are you restarting the download mode after the flashes fail?
It's pointless to retry a flash if it fails in a single session at Download Mode, after the first flash, the phone and odin communication behave weirdly.

But the 3.0 is for flashing on flashify and i don t have the root because i have a marshmallow bootloader and i must flash before the twrp and next i flash the supersu zip and this twrp is adapt dor my A5 and i don t know what will happen if i flash another twrp as you say the 3.0

i resolved the problem now i flashed the twrp and did the root thanks a lot
Man why i didn't have the root if i flashed the supersu zip? supersu says that i am not on root how to do?

I have SM-G935F (Black Onix) and i have TWRP+Root and Custom ROM
Download:
TWRP -> Twrp-3.0.2-4-hero2lte.img.tar
Odin -> Odin
1. activate developer mode on the current system and turn on the option 'enable OEM
2. reboot phone mode to 'download mode' and flash using Odin (position AP) TWRP recovery [ATTENTION you must turn off autoreboot options in odin and after flash manually reboot the phone into recovery mode]
3. You can flash SuperSU or if you want custom rom with root:
3.1 go to options and select wipe data format - write "yes" then after finishing wipe necessarily restart phone to recovery mode [ATTENTION this operation will clear the memory of the phone without touching the data contained on the ex-scdard]
3.2 flash in the recovery file no-verity-opt-encrypt-2.2.zip
3.3 reboot phone to recovery mode
3.4 Flash your favorite rom and wait for boot up I recommend Ambasadii ROM..

its depends. I never use Dream rom.
Try to download Ambasadii rom, if works then its problem in rom..
Did you update bootloader and modem?

Dont know honestly, i update with aroma in my rom
Try to download nougat firmware, flash it with odin and then flash your rom

is there any way to FAST fix "Custom Binary Blocked by FRP Lock S7 Edge" after I have deleted root from supersu menu and off oem unlock?

SOLVED
I had try again with, and i can has normally,
1. Pres Vol -, Power and home 7second,
2. System will boot odin,
3. Install Stock Firmware,
4. Switch on Developer Mode & OEM Unlocking
5. Download FRP unlock bypass APK
6. Restart the phone,
7. Now you can Install Costum Again
