Help me back into a Priv.... - BlackBerry Priv

I bought the Priv when it first came out and quickly returned it because it couldn't do something I absolutely needed... so I went back to my Samsung device.
Now with 6.0.1 out there, I wanted to know...
Can anyone confirm if you can link a key press to the Invert Color quick setting?
I am visually impaired and need a quick way to Invert Colors with a hardware button. I know the Invert Colors function is available from the Notification menu - this doesn't work for me as it's not quick enough and requires the user to see the screen to trigger the function. If I can map it to a key press like I do on Samsung devices, I'll go back to the Priv in a heartbeat.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hey guys I know it's a pain, but can anyone please check this out for me? I really don't want to have to buy a Priv just to see if this will work for me again.
I just need to confirm that you can long-press a key on the QWERTY keyboard and associate it with the Invert Colors toggle...

Hey,
so there are a few things here.
First: You would need to use the bb launcher. Third party launchers dont seem so support such hotkeys.
Second: It seems like you need a third party app to toggle the invert colors. I couldnt find a way to bind invert colors from the predefined bb launcher hotkey options.
I guess it's possible but it doesnt seem to be comfortable to setup.

Thank you .K' - that's a huge a help.
Without root, I've never been able to get a third party app to toggle invert colors with a hardware key. And because I can't root a Priv, and it doesn't seem possible with the BB launcher, I think I'm out of luck.
I really appreciate you checking into that for me!

[Q] Orientation lock on notification bar?

I watched the video of the 2.2 software for the galaxy s and noticed they had an "orientation lock" button in the quick launch buttons at the top of the notification bar. I absolutely hate the automatically switching orientation setting but there is definatly times i need to use the phone in landscape and its a pain to switch it. I am wondering if this is something that is possible to add to our current software? i searched but couldnt find anything for this for the vibrant.
anyone have any ideas how to implement this? or is it something that well just have to wait and see if its an option when we get 2.2.
thanks
-jake
Would be nice, and i like how the Euro is Vibrate rather than Silent. I could do away with the Bluetooth for a auto lock. Wish Cyanogne would pick that up.
Yeah, the rotation of Android pales compared to the iphone. It's always been disappointing to me.
Have you tried Curvefish's rotation widget in the market? It's free and a very nice looking 1x1 toggle switch.
Use switch pro widget.
The ability of accessing it in the notifications bar is what I want.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Download Quick Settings in the market. Basically it gives u the option to keep it in the notification bar and access the orientation change (and ever single other setting) with a swipe and 2 clicks.
I promise u will not find a more convenient solution. The app is definitely Top 10 in the entire market.

lockscreen unlocker

Hello desire community,
I just though of an idea. I like the look of the lock screen on sense, but i miss the option to have two sliders (one to unlock, one to silence). What is someone could build a slider that can slide up and down, plus has a slider point in the middle that can slide either left or right. I have attached an example but I am not a good artist so I hope you can understand what it means.
+1, that would be neat
I thought so to but:
1) I don't know how to program that
2) I can't even draw it very well
Like WidgetLocker, perhaps?
http://www.appbrain.com/app/widgetlocker-lockscreen/com.teslacoilsw.widgetlocker
Moved to themes and apps
I have widget locker. I was thinking like the rotory slider but with one "slider" in the middle and four directions to slide.
This is what he wants except the places where it fades he wants it to rotate, and i agree would be cool.
Edit: this as in dragging up, and down, and rotationg side to side, would give it 4 ways to move instead of just one, and would take full effect of the possibilities of the HTC design...
Exactly I could imagine using up for dailer, down unlock, left mms, and right ringer. If it is in widgetlocker they could be customized
That's a really nice idea, i'd love to see such a feature.
Nice idea but I can imagine the amount of unwanted actions in pocket etc.

None because you would have to touch the middlepoint of the slider to make it work and thats veeeery unlikely....
a better example would be Galaxy S Lockscreen i think
this style is what i like to have

yeah, well can anyone make one, i love to have it, make sure it is in zip though, and "easy install" mode
Search widget locker on market. It has a vanilla lockscreen

[Solved]CyanogenMod Power Control Widget - solved: use Widgetsoid2.x

edit:
Solved: Go to Market and look for "Widgetsoid2.x"
Thanks for everyone's help!
Hello,
I use CyanogenMod6 on my x10 mini and I've gotten really addicted to the power Control Widget!
I'm not 100% sure if it is the default power control widget for gingerbread/froyo or cyanogenmod specific, but you can really modify the widget before putting in on the screen. On the arc however, one can only put it on the screen with the 5 default switchs.
I tried a lot of other widgets from the market, but NONE could give me the same features! Is there someone who can help me to get the cyanogenmod power widget on the arc?
Thank you,
Linkin
Widgetsoid2.x is what your after i think
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.jim2&feature=search_result
omg, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
Only question I have left:
The widget wants the permission to:
"directly call phone numbers"
Do you know why the widget wants to do this?
I guess it's because you can assign a contact to one of the widget button if you want to and then pressing this button launches the call straight away (no pop up menu or confirmation needed) !
thank you! Right at this second, I found this page:
http://jaumard.android.free.fr/widgetsoid/informations_widgetsoid.php?lang=en_EN
There every permission is explained!
Thank you for helping me, I love this APP!!!!

Also if you are in a app like the browser and want to enable something like auto-rotate i use mysettings, and enable it in the pull down notification bar,
https://market.android.com/details?id=jqsoft.apps.mysettings&feature=search_result
thanks, but I've never used this option in CM. I only use the power control widget
Widgetsoid2.x is a great app, but... on xperia Arc the power controls in notification bar work only in popup mode. Selecting the icons directy in the notification bar does not work.

That's a limitation in android, unfortunately.
I had an HTC Wildfire with CyanogenMod 7
It had a power bar on notification as a standard and it worked perfectly so I don't think it's Android...
You had a rooted device running a custom rom, which had been tweaked to have this behaviour. I had the same thing running on my hero - the point is that it came built into the ROM, not as a separate app. You arent going to be able to get this behaviour by running an app on an unrooted stock rom.
Now that the arc is rooted, hopefully cyanogenmod will get ported to it, or someone will make some other custom rom with these tweaks, then we will get this functionality.
Exactly my point.
It's not an Android limitation per se. It can be done in a rooted customized rom. I just thought that it could be done by an app on a rooted device.
Thanks

Can you disable the on screen buttons to use the full screen?

I want to get the Nexus 4 but only if I can disable those buttons as all the videos I see they turn invisible in full screen apps but you're left with a black bar instead of the full screen working. I'm worried that it is at a hardware level and you'll never be able to disable them so you can have the full use of the screen. It's such a big downer seeing the phone compared to other phones and how much space those buttons take.
Thanx.
Edit: I don't want it where I have to go into a menu to switch them on or off. I want them to hide themselves when I haven't got my finger in the area so I can quickly use them, otherwise it would get annoying having to keep manually turning them on and off.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1983710
Not built into Android? You'd have thought it would be a feature that would be one of the first to make it in.
In some roms you can make them smaller, but disabling doesn't make sense because you cannot control your phone without them.
Maybe a toggle in the powermenu(longpress power) would be a compromise.
You can use GMD Gesture control from the play store if you dont want to have to flash a ROM to do this. All you do is swipe with three fingers up from the bottom of the screen and BOOM they disappear. You can make your own gesture to do this too!
I use LMT Launcher on my Galaxy Nexus, my navbar is enabled like 95% of the time. Hopefully someone can come up with a mod to hide the navbar.
Sent from my Transformer Pad TF700T using xda premium
This is very easy to do. Not sure in JB 4.2, but in JB 4.1.2 all you have to do is remove these lines out of the build.prop:
launcher.force_enable_rotation=true
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
Make sure to use something like LMT Launcher pie control to replace the on screen buttons. This is by far my favorite setup as I can not stand on-screen buttons taking up screen real estate.
Edit... Someone may want to confirm this on a stock rom as I'm not seeing this in AOKP.
Why does everyone feel the need to create a thread for one question? There is a help threa stickied for a reason, so i'd appreciate if questions were asked there, especially such general questions like this one. Please help us keep this forum cleaner guys.

6.0.1 customization advice

Have: Nexus 6P stock 6.0.1. Need: some customization. Items in green have a solution.
I've enabled Developer Mode and System UI Tweaker. I'd like to do this without root, or anything that would affect individual Google Play-installable apps. (The reason is, I need this device for final user release testing, so it should be what users have just from factory reset + install apps and normal OS upgrades):
Different wallpaper on Lock Screen than behind icons and widgets. (Tried: http://forums.androidcentral.com/an...-lock-screen-wallpaper-help-how-can-i-do.html - No triple dot menu visible in Wallpaper)
Full brightness on Lock screen instead of 90%, independent of brightness settings. ("OK" option: same brightness as manual brightness in Settings) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/home-lockscreen-brightness-t1704705 - no Lock Screen Options in Settings)
Disable peeking globally. ("OK" option: put them in the statusbar like 4.4.4) (I don't want to disable peeking for every new app I install: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Here...ifications-in-Android-6.0-Marshmallow_id75408) Temporary solution: I will manually disable peeking for every new app that shows them.
Global saturation setting for icons. (They're all saying "click ME!", that's an icon designer's job. With an excellent high-contrast screen like this, it's a crowd shouting.) ("OK" option: some other way of getting icons to look more Zen.) Icon packs for launchers are that "OK option", browsing tons on Google Play left Hexacon and Dual Shadow. So Hexacon.
Remove the Google Now bar from my Home Screen (without disabling any services). (As in, I taught the device my voice, so I don't need it there for me to tap. Tried: https://www.androidpit.com/how-to-remove-the-google-search-bar-from-your-android-homescreen - it's not long-tappable nor draggable, nor does it appear under Google Apps in Widgets.) Best solution so far: Nova Launcher.
I'd like to be able to do this:
Some quick way (preferably swipe) to access a more compact Quick Settings widget, like on my Xperia Z. I've reduced it to 9, can't remove "Invert Colors" and Location toggles.
Global Night Mode for everything in the System UI - to make it look similar to the Quick Settings. (This is a "like to" only because it's been promised in N. I really need it like, now. ) Best solution so far: Nova Launcher.
Basically I have the greatest phone, so I want it to look good at all times, and with the aim Clean, Fresh, Zen.
I posted here bc the forum was most specific. Feel free to refer or advise me how to best get answers as I joined tonight.
Any & all advice on single questions is appreciated Not possible is a valid answer, and I'm also prepared to wait for N if that's the answer.
I used to think of "ok google" as a novelty but its become more polished and if it remains reliable Ill continue to use it more& more. As it applies to keeping things clean it sort of does eliminate need for extra widgets.
If you have ok google everywhere u can just say " ok google...launch settings". Same goes for music apps, podcasts, youtube videos etc.
Started using a new app other day you might like called sesame edge. I set it on the right edge, virtually invisible and it brings up quick access to apps.

Thanks, trying it out. Also tried Sesame in the hope that it would let me set a different lock screen wallpaper, but it only had "their automatic lock screen wallpaper or off" as setting. I sent feedback to them, so let's see.

I dont use a lockscreen but on Pure Nexus which Im using now there is an option to set lockscreen wallpaper.
I use action launcher 3 which doesnt allow me to remove google bar (i dont think) but nova will let u do that. I like the bar cuz on action launcher i can put several shortcuts for whatever i want.
ASAP launcher is very minimal. Again you cant REMOVE the bar but swipe down and it turns into a simple clock widget.

Thx, tried Nova and it gives me Night Mode. Thanks for that Still, no way to have a different wallpaper on the lock screen than on the home screen, and I can find no Prime option for it either. Pure Nexus requires CM.
Can I mix and match this type of apps? Will they interfere with each other? Sesame seems to work with Nova at least.
What about Hi Locker? http://android.wonderhowto.com/how-to/get-back-lock-screen-customization-android-lollipop-0160204/
Can custom lock screens lock me out of my phone, make me butt dial, hog battery? I just want to change the gdmn background!
As I wrote, if some feature comes in N I'd rather wait than mess up my new phone.

Seems Im constantly tweaking things and having problems recalling exactly what I used. I know making lockscreen different from desktop is something Ive done many times. Do u have xposed? Pretty sure gravitybox has that option.
As far as butt dials, I use sweep to wake & it was a problem. Always remember to put it in your pocket screen facing out. I also need to do that when using bt headphones or else i get distortion. Anyways if i find something relevant Ill let u know.
Thx for suggestions!
I want weather, clock, and a background that matches my high-end case on the lock screen AND NOTHING ELSE, and then wherever there are icons I want a neutral background or just a color so I can see them properly. I think that's being a normal user with sensible demands.
Right now a huge dark gray or white slate COVERS the background anyway. I don't mind it, it lets me see the icons of all manner of variety and quality against something neutral, still... just allowing a background to set behind your icons seems to be an easy addition... since Froyo... Anyway, end rant about Simple Things. Android at least lets you customize them.
I'm battling notifications now. Light Manager is recommended for the 6P - testing it out now for notifications that are actually important, will report.
