Hi, 6p users.
I am using my fast nexus 6p.
But I want to use more fast performance.
So I try to format cache partition but failed :crying:
So I search about this problem and I found cm13 jgcaap's build support formatting f2fs on cache partition.
But I want to use ota support rom.
Is there any rom support formatting f2fs on cache partition with ota?
Thanks. (and sorry about my bad English.)

Our cache partition is not big enough to support f2fs.

I find it odd that Google decided to allow the 5X to utilize F2FS on both the data & cache partitions(running on my 5X now) but shrunk the 6P's cache size down so it can't. Google is one weird company when it comes to handling their phones.

Then why it can on jgcaap's build?
(should I question jgcaap?)

Have you actually successfully formatted your cache to f2fs while on jgcapps builds?

Not used yet.
You mean it can't use any rom because cache size is too small to use f2fs?

Dalvik compile results. Completely disposable. Will cause slower performance as the classes get recompiled the first time they're run.

The Android system apps and jarfiles (java libraries). If you do this, you'll need to reflash the ROM (like a nightly) and gapps.

All of YOUR stuff. Market apps, program configuration settings, etc. Larger datafiles will generally be in /emmc or /sdcard. Much of this will be backed up by Google if you enabled this and will trickle back, but it's a pain and some apps don't do it right or at all.
That said, any of these might solve some problem sometime. Clearing cache often fixes force-close problems due to stale or corrupted compilations. Clearing /system can clean out old versions of system stuff (I haven't seen this, and ISTR that the nightly install does this anyway; watch CWR while it's installing sometime). Clearing out data can fix rogue apps by deleting them completely, but erase their data and/or uninstall from Market first.
What's about /boot, stolen?
What harm if we format it?
And, just a little correction up there, format /cache alone doesn't perform wiping Dalvik

Then you can't boot from that device anymore. Reinstall.

Right, you need to clear /data/dalvik-cache, too, but that isn't needed with the usual updates, and it's harder to get to in CWR. But he didn't ask about either of those, or any other filesystems, and maybe you could fill him in?

Do it from the in-built settings.
Then do it in the recovery.
If you have a custom recovery you can just format /sdcard.

No! If you want to flash a ROM you only need to format...
/system
/data
/cache
/dalvik-cache (Or just "Wipe Dalvik Cache")
/internal-sd or /sdcard
Don't touch anything else!

I just did.

Any problems you face you won't get much useful help, no one would even want to format those partitions.

Edit* Ok, No thanks actually,
BUt it seems to still be working - just put 5.0 Rom on the old HK note 3 and it worked a charm
***edit:
No, it wasn't! Wifi and modem was messed up.
I guess if anyone does the same thing as me, they can simply just re-install original firmware and that solves any drama.
To get it to work I simply went back to HK firmware (which was an annoyingly slow download using a vpn to get past the Great Fire wall of China) - This firmware thing used to be a big deal - but not so much anymore now that there actually is a downloadable firmware for the HK 4.4.2 bootloader. Why it took them a year to get it out is almost criminal. Anyway, Just reinstalled using ODIN, unlocked and flashed CWM.
Simple as that - No worries. I'm guessing anyone with as much experience who was being helpful could have advised to do this.

So I'm just starting to look into the F2FS format for the N7 since everyone is just talking about it and the speed increase, new life, it gives to this great tablet. I have a few questions...
I'm currently running the following
File Format: ext4 all partitions
Rom: PA 5.0
Kernel: M Kernel a74
I've read up that PA does not support F2FS, and if you want to format to F2FS the user would have to change the rom themselves. Is there a simple way to go about this, as I do enjoy using PA.
2nd, I know m-kernel supports F2FS, do I just have to flash it and it works out of the box, or do I need to do some sort of setting?
3rd, Some people say they just format cache into F2FS, if I do this, can I still use PA 5.0 without changing the rom?
4th, Is the performance noticeably different between just cache in F2FS VS cache/data in F2FS? I assume if I format data into F2FS PA will have to be modded to run F2FS or flash another rom with F2FS support.
5th, Dumb question maybe, but why does everyone say not to format system into F2FS?
Thanks for any insight!
I use CM, not PA, but that's probably no difference here.

If you want to have /system on F2FS, you'll probably have to change the rom, otherwise not. since changing /system has no great impact (because there's no write access) you can leave it on ext4. In this case, you only have to flash an f2fs-compatible kernel (after each flashing of the rom), but don't need other changes.

for data/cache yes, for all-f2fs not. Of course you still have to do the formatting in TWRP (or whatever). Remember that your internal storage (/sdcard) will be wiped if you format data.

usually it's cache and data, I never heard of someone only reformatting cache. But it should be possible, of course without changing the rom (besides kernel).

As I said, I have never used PA, but for all roms I used data could be formatted to f2fs without changes in the rom. You only have to flash an f2fs kernel if the rom doesn't include one.
Hi all, not so sure if this is repeated question.
I am looking for a faster rom for my phone, wants it to be fast and saves battery. Could you guys provide suggestions?
My Nexus 4 is currently on:-
Rom: Paranoid Android 4.6-Beta6 (Unofficial release, found under development threads)
Kernel: 3.4.104-franco-Kernel-SaberMod-r213.2
File system: Full-F2FS (System, cache, data are in F2FS file system)
Thanks in advanced. ^^

Will there be performance sacrifice as system partition not F2FS?
I would PM you later on how should I carry out the process. The last time I flashed, I got message prompting me to type a message to access locked storage, but it's actually due to it couldn't access as kernel doesn't support F2FS. Probably I didn't flash F2FS kernel after flashing rom.

There is no big improvement of using F2FS at all. And since /system is read only this is totally not need
And yes, you got storage locked because of kernel without F2FS support.
I converted cache and data f2fs but system not change f2fs.How can I do it ? ( Sorry my bad english )

You can't. At least not without a proper OS support.
LineageOS supports F2FS only on cache and data partitions.
F2FS should only improve write speeds (debatable, I haven't done any benchmarking), and since /system is read-only it doesn't really make much sense.
IMO it's not really worth the hassle, even for /data or /cache.
