waiting for review

I've tried the root with some firmware with Octoplus Samsung Firmware 2.3.0. It's strange, after rooting the phone (flash boot.img file from download mode) the phone boot and the logging service crash often. The strange is it:
if i install supersu, super su says no root access, but if i execute any operation with octoplus box (read security, reset screen lock) the software says Phone is rooted and the operation goes fine. if i execute adb root shell from cmd, adb says the phone alredy on root shell adbd. At this moment, for me isn't work. In download mode the Knox Warranty Void Stay on 0, and the System Status stay on Custom.. but the root permission on the phone (with some apps: Root Checker, Super SU, Busybox) not working at all.. waiting for other users test!
EDIT: I've write to Octopus Team for other information

Rooting ! = unlocking.
For rooting you need an unlocked boot loader.
AFAIK you can't unlock your phones boot loader without a PC. You need to send commands :
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
while in the bootloader menu and then flash a custom recovery from which you can flash a superuser binary.
However if your bootloader is unlocked you can easily do so by using a few busybox commands and terminal emulator and flash the custom recovery and then the superuser binary.
And BTW if your USB port is damaged , how are you charging your tablet ?
Might be an issue with the drivers on your computer or something similar .. Check it out.

cool thanks for the reply
First of all I am charging through a nexus 7 dock. Second my boot loader is unlocked. Can you please tell me how to do that whole busy box thing. THANK YOU.

So your cable is not working but your USB port is fine ?
If your boot loader is unlocked do. You have a custom recovery installed ? Download a custom recovery and flash it through the terminal emulator :
Code:
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-name.img
if you don't have the flash image binary you may need go get it from somewhere ( I.e. the command won't be recognized ) . then flash chainfires supersu binary and you are good to go ..
Sent from my Nexus 7
okay but..
I get this error
[email protected]:/ $ flash_image recovery /sdcard/openrecovery-twrp-2.6.0.0-grouper.img
/system/bin/sh: flash_image: not found
127
What do I do now?
Now since you aren't rooted. So possibly you can't send the flash image to the xbin folder of your /system i.e. busy box so .. You can't flash the recovery as you don't have the flash image binary. So basically you can't root without a computer.
Sent from my Nexus 7
ok
Thanks for the help anyways. But what if I did a factory reset. Will I have the flash_image installed. Also can I backup app data without the computer or root since the USB port inside my nexus 7 is broken?
You can https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sand.airdroid to backup / access your internal SD card.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup can be used to backup apps without root.
Hope This helps you.
Apart from this you can try to use some super one click root apps and all to get root. I haven't tried them so I am not sure. You can experiment with them .

keep in mind
I have once rooted the tablet but did not factory reset the tablet. I accidentally cleared root with this one app. Just to let you know
Yeah, I'm in the same boat, as my #&$(@! USB port is crippled. Needing the dock to recharge is bad enough, but now I've lost my root and unlocked bootloader due to 4.3 OTA update.
To make matters worse, I saw a YouTube video just this morning about a root app that gets around the problem of overwriting unlocked and rooting devices via official upgrades -- Mobile ODIN Pro. If only I had stopped to put two and two together...
Here's a link, in the hope that it helps someone else avoid the same problem:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.mobileodin.pro&hl=en
Note: Just read the Play Store description for this app and it appears that it only primarily supports only Samsung hardware, So I would have still be SOL with my Nexus 7...
useless
The app requires root from the start. The app won't let you go any farther once opened because it Checks for root
Yes, understood. My point was that if I had installed something like this BEFORE the update (this morning), I wouldn't have lost root or unlocking. But, as noted earlier, this tool doesn't support the Nexus 7 anyway.
Looks like I might be on a shorter-than-planned tablet upgrade cycle. If anyone is interested in a 16GB Nexus 7 with a dock/no working USB port, but in otherwise perfect condition, PM me.
Oh well, maybe someone will invent a app that can root
nexus 7 root

I'm sorry for resurrecting an old thread but I have this exact same problem. My usb port went out almost a year ago so I have been charging via the dock. My N7 (2012) is running very slow so it's time for a factory reset. I have read about towelroot and saw in the above quote that it works for the N7. I downloaded to test it out first but it tells me that my device is not supported. Is there some workaround that I have to get it to work first? I don't want to factory reset without being able to have root.

[Q] [i9500] Burnt by 4.3 (Knox) - Can't root or downgrade - Options?

I am using the International GSM Galaxy s4 (i9500). I am one of the foolish people who rushed into 4.3 (the Russian ROM doing the rounds - I9500XXUEMJ5_I9500SEREMJ5_SER) without doing sufficient research. Initially it wouldn't even boot properly, and apps would keep crashing, but after a factory reset 4.3 is working okay. I knew that the device would get unrooted, but I didn't know Samsung had a giant turd hiding up its sleeve named Knox. Now in Odin Mode it shows "warranty bit" as "1" I have tried rooting, and everything seems to go as per plan, but it doesn't root it. When I boot the phone I get these annoying notifications - "SuperSu attempted to access system on your device without authorisation" and that the attempt was blocked blah blah blah.
Things I have tried:
I have tried rooting it using crossfire (CF-Auto-Root-ja3g-ja3gxx-gti9500), and everything goes smoothly. It downloads it in Odin mode and then goes to the red screen (recovery mode) where all the messages seem to be okay. It then boots up fine. Everything in dandy. But no root. SuperSU says "There is no SU binary installed, and Super SU cannot install it. This is a problem! If you just upgraded to Android 4.3, you need to manually re-root - consult the relevant forums for your device." The only thing I have found on forums / google is to try using the CF-Auto-Root file mentioned before).
I have tried flashing CWM and using the root option in the recovery mode menu. It says it's rooted and asks me to reboot. But same thing - no root.
Frustrated by this, I decided to go back to the way things are (If it ain't broke, don't fix it - stupid me!!!) I downloaded a 4.2.2 stock ROM firmware file which a lot of people online are recommending (INU-I9500XWUBMG5-20130726135330) but now when I try to flash it using Odin 3.9, it gives me a couple of error messages in the box in Odin and on the phone something like "Unsupported Version" comes and then it does nothing. I have to pull out the battery, and no progress.
While Knox is a horrible thing Samsung has done, it will probably not affect my day to day usage, so I am fine waiting for a solution to reset it if and when it ever comes and hope that I don't need to use the warranty or alternatively they don't enforce that stuff here in India (more out of ignorance than goodness of heart)). But not having root on my phone is very tough. Unfortunately I can't use many of my apps that require root (Titanium, Avast etc.) - and I don't see what business it is of Samsung if I want to use legit apps that require root in order to enhance my experience.
What are my options (if any )? I am open to using any other (stable) ROMs like cyanogenmod etc. if that provides a solution. Or do I just have to wait till the geniuses (crossfire etc.) figure it out?
Same problem here. I'm waiting for someone to fix it.
Seems like a lot of people around the world have the same problem as I do. I guess we will have to wait. Meantime, I guess I will try flashing the Indian firmware that just came out today (if only I had waited a day!). The Indian one seems to have Knox too, but I feel kind of like in the walking dead - we are all infected, and can't do **** about it.
I imagine whenever crossfire comes out with the root file for 4.3, it should be applicable for all region 4.3 firmwares?
no problem with root
This is interesting to me because i downloaded the mentioned 4.3 Russia rom and flashed it. After i flashed the cf auto root and now i have root. The only thing i have is i cant seem to install knox which it is saying your device is not authorised to enter knox mode. Not sure but i suspect it is because i have root. In download mode it says custom and warranty is 1.
sorry.. i forgot to mention i have the i-9500 international version.
solved!
I don't know, will it be working on update that installed by OTA, but i know that it works if you flashed update by ODIN. Now i have fully functional rooted russian 4.3 firmware.
First, you must know that this method will void your warranty, because it will activate warranty bit counter.
1. Flash the update and wipe data and cache.
2. Do not setting up your device.
3. Enter to downlod mode again, and flash the cofface recovery.
4. Enter to recovery and install the special Chainfire's supersu for 4.3 (look in attachment of this post.)
5. Reboot and setup your phone, but anyway DON'T TRY to use knox, and if you will see dialog window, where it is written about some protection - decline it every time as you see it!
6. Now, you need to stop knox services in application manager. Just stop all aplications that have "knox", and some agent that hase different name, but same icon.
7. Now you can use root, but you need to uninstall all knox services before reboot, because knox will be running again and block su binary. I used RootAppDelete.

Yeah... I doubt that method would work. Plus after spending hours manually reinstalling apps and setting up accounts etc. I don't want to factory reset unless it's a sure thing. (Since I don't have root, I can't use Titanium Backup to restore my apps + data).
Is there any news on any method to root the i9500 on 4.3?
I flashed the Indian firmware, and it's working very well! (apart from the Knox b.s.)
4.2.2 downgrade from 4.3 Official Russian
Hi Friends,
I need your help.
I have upgraded to 4.3 Russian FW through ODIN. When i connected to KIES it says 'This device is not supported by KIES"
When i try Firmware upgrade and initialization, it says that it can restore to original firmware MG9. Somewhere here i have read that downgrade is not available. So if try will i brick my device. I would like to go back to original 4.2.2 and wait for official update for Africa as i am from Kenya.
Otherwise 4.3 is very fast and smooth and camera app is working very fast, better battery performance and no hanging.
I will appreciate any help. Thanks

Spoiler: VebKr

Hi @VebKr, seems like I did same with you, , and now my warranty bit has became 1 already, and I couldn't turn it back to 0, I've searched how to do it, but I couldn't find it. And now, I don't know what to say, but seems like I lost my warranty because of that, I've just bought this phone last month actually. Is there anyone who able to make it back?

Mate you should have read the whole post before flashing the rom frankly now there is nothing you can do as i and @ll_r1d0_ll were discussing about the same so you should have waited for little more time before flashing the wanamlite 3.1 i got a new myself a new s4 so now the old one is having wanamlite which is tremendous i just loved it but still having a second thought on updating my new s4 to custom .. will wait for some time for some of the magician here on xda will turn the wheel, so we might get lucky.

Kingo Root

Look what i got from the official Kingo Root Support:
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Looks like the result of spyware installed on your device. XDA already closed the Kingo thread.
Kingo reads your IMEI and sends it to some server in China and who know what else of private data.
NEVER just run any .exe without knowing exactly what´s in it!
I dint run it

if they still collect the IMEI - they probably shouldn't. (i'm still curious what it can be misused and what it's used for exactly - cloning the phone ID? tracking on the cell network type level - aside from apps misusing it for UID. wonder if you can brick phones by reporting it stolen )
keep in mind you're also running it as local admin on your desktop.
both vroot and kingo download things off the server and run them (either and or android exploits/custom recovery to try, or update files for the desktop client). on the bright side kingo is at least not in chinese.
that said i'm sure someone runs it with process monitor and wireshark not that there are many guarantees on that.
running the current version of both VROOT and Kingo, on a spare laptop and on a device with no data on it - doesn't work with mj7. (tries all exploits rebooting after each one, says it'll flash custom recovery tries says rooted reboots - not really rooted ). Does warn you it will void warranty before flashing custom recovery. (my knox was voided before that anyway).
Now i should probably reflash and wipe data
on the flip side - it tries several exploits for you and offers to try to flash recovery all on its own which is a decent effort on ease of use

Just FYI - Kingoapp hasn't collected the IMEI # since the release of version 1.1.2 Also, they just posted a detailed list of Note 3 versions that can and cannot be successfully rooted with their app at this time on their facebook page.

[ROOT][D6502/D6503] Easy Root .402 without Downgrade + Locked Bootloader

Hi Guys,
As already many of us know that we can use the Easy root toolkit to root our Xperia .402 Fw without the need to Downgrade.
I am making this thread as many have been asking me the steps to do it.
I am not responsible in any way if something goes bad. I have personally rooted 2 phones using this method and everything is fine.
Head over to this Post and download the V10.0 from there.
Follow the Steps mentioned below.
1. Download the attachment and extract it
2. Download http://towelroot.com/ and put tr.apk inside folder /files
3. Start your phone and plug it to your computer
4. Run install.bat and follow the instructions on screen
Now extra steps that I did.
After phone restarts download rootchecker from playstore and check if root is there.
It would show you the root.
Now Download the attached superuser.apk ( Dont install from Playstore )
Install it and open and it would ask you to update binaries do that ( Normal way )
Restart the phone.
Now my phone is Rooted with Locked Bootloader.
Thanks to
geohot: Root exploit
MohammadAG: Disable RIC kernel module (Link)
cubeundcube: Disable RIC on Z2 phone (findricaddr/writekmem)
[NUT]: Great guy and used some of his scripts as base
DooMLoRD: Used his idea of hacking chargemon

Yes this happened with me also. Root it again using the easy root kit and restart the phone. try again installing Xposed
You will have issues with write access to /system if you use v3 in that thread. Please wait for v4 (coming very soon), should fix all issues.
Great
Great tutorial
So apparently I cannot install SuperUser. The apk just doesnt want to install. Root Checker shows I have root but I simply cannot install superuser.

SuperSU fails to install binnary
Hope somebody can help me. I downloaded the attached 'supersu.apk' to my Sony Z2 and when it tries to install the binnaries it always gives me an error. I tried to reboot the device but the error persists. Rootchecker says I'm rooted. And someone befofe posted he managed to do it with the newer version of supersu from the market place, I tried it too, though it also gives me the same error message.
Any help???
Thanks in advance.

Don't unplug the phone before restarting after the first part of root process. After the reboot files are added it seems. Did that at first too and it didn't work. Wait it out and press a button during reboot and when it boots up it'll be fine.

Does ZTE Max 2 have custom recovery / root available?

Strange, I don't see ZTE Max 2 forum, so naturally I thought I'd post here.
Phone looks great on paper, but not sure if we can mod it. Thanks!
Probably no recovery yet but you can try Kingroot app to root the device. I have the first Zmax since it first came out and it was a pnta to mod. We were able to use Kingroot to root it but have to flash scripts to maintain r/w acess. Don't get me wrong the phone without root is still a great bang for the buck. If I were you I would read through the original Zmax forum.
No root right now. srsroot announced couple time but never worked. Kingroot tried some new way but still failed at the end.
Fastboot disabled
The ZTE ZMax 2 (Z958) from what I have discovered has a disabled fastboot. Without fastboot we will not be able to unlock the boot loader. Which in turn will not allow us to flash a alternative recovery.

Does that mean no root? or we have to wait until root to enable fast boot?
zmax2 z955l
can any one help, just bought this zmax2 z955l phone from a non-profit organization but it kept asking for the previous email that was sync with the phone last.
has any one found a way to root the z958 yet been browsing for quite sometime and everything i've tried simply doesnt work.
Any new developments on this? I am running out of space and would like to use link2sd but it tells me I need Root access.
Has anyone tried to use the OEM unlock in developer options menu?

I have a potential root on my zmax 2. I got kingoroot on my computer and rooted it with a charging USB cord. Kingo root said it was successful and its super user app asked for root acces .
However when I download an app that uses roo . It would ask for permission uponnhitting the allow button, after a while it would say access denied.
Also root checkers will say it isn't rooted... I hope this helps at all. I guess you could say its like a semi-root. I do not know, however, if it stays after I reboot the phone
Kingo PC is actually working!!! but the kingo's superuser app has some problem with. you have to Deny and Allow the app that request for root couple times. Or you can uninstall the kingo superuser app in order to get root. But this is only a Temp root. Hopefully someone can compile a twrp for Zmax2 and hopefully we can use flashify to flash twrp..
This would be very nice!

Um if you uninstall the super user app from Kingo and get like SuperSU, it requires that it get the binarys however it won't ever get them and basically you're stuck on a temp rooted phone..

Is anyone still on this? I was able to gain perm root I believe. After reboot, root sticks. I followed a guide to turn off nand / system write protection using ADB, then was able to use PC KingoRoot. In adb I used "adb reboot disemmcwp" to disable write protection. To re-enable it says to issue this command "adb reboot emmcwpenab". Here is the link to the post I used before attempting PC KingoRoot
