SM-T715Y now receiving Marshmallow - Galaxy Tab S2 General

So I just got the update notification on my 4G Tab S2 region code XID (Indonesia). F/W is on SamMobile as well, and would have installed it if my battery wasn't running low. Will report back soon!

so far it is exactly what I expected - GS7 software on a tablet. Great battery and none of the performance issues the first gen Tab S had when first receiving Lollipop.

Actually, battery life became worse on this update. I lose 1% of battery life in under 3 minutes without doing anything, my tab was just idle in the home screen.

But that didn't happen when I was still running Lollipop :/

I've noticed the battery drain too. It's not way worse, but it is slightly quicker at getting rid of charge. Has anyone noticed any other genuine changes? Apart from the lighter colour to the drop-down menu it seems basically identical.

Battery definitely drains faster in this update. It would take me 7-10mins for me to lose 1% of battery life in Lollipop. But now it would take me 3-5mins to lose 1% of battery life. I'm considering right now to go back to Lollipop to be honest, I can't stand this battery performance.
Other changes I've seen was the boot, it uses the S7 boot animation and there wasn't a boot startup sound.

Are many still waiting for the update?
Is everyone experiencing the rapid batter drain.
No update here.
Shofar

Charging time estimate seems to be gone from notif dropdown (no charging notif at all) and lock screen (just says charging, no more x hours x minutes until full)

Marshmallow works fine. The battery issues were and will always be there for first few days till the firmware settles in.
One problem i faced was not audio output on one of my bose earphones. I still get the output on an older pair. The new ones work fine with every other device including a note 5. Just not this tab. Any suggestions to make it work ?

Are there many of you still without MM?
More than a week and still nothing.
Is it simple to install from Sam Mobile?
Getting frustrated with Samsung.

Hopefully the battery issues are just temporary just like what you said, I am getting tired of this battery drain. This never existed in Lollipop.
About your earphones, maybe the Tab doesn't recognize it?

I guess I'll wait. Lollipop is not so bad....

The main reason why I stayed on lollipop with my tab s2 and Glad i turned automatic updates off....I learned my lesson when I put marshmallow on my galaxy s6 edge plus and the battery life was terrible....

Not to my knowledge. Dont have a microSD in my tab to test.

Still waiting
I upgraded from nexus 7 to the T715Y galaxy tab s2 8". Solid device, battery performance less than optimal, software updates non existant. The nexus still gets monthly security patching and got the android 6 OTA update in short order. Now 18 July and despite indonesia, panama, phillipines and other neighbours in asia having this update, still no word from Samsung. Tried Kies, side sync and OTA update button mashing... nothing.
In fact Kies said there was an update, which i installed, wiping my tablet to get .. you guessed it, the same darn version i had. 5.0.2. Would recommend the tablet if not for the lack of security and software updates.

Still waiting in Australia
Edit: finally got it about a week ago

Kitkat killed battery life

Kitkat killed battery life. Used to be great, now it sucks.

KitKat didn't kill battery life. Mine is about the same as it was before KitKat. In about 99.999% of the time an app is to blame. I have a simple but arduous method to find the app that's killing your battery.
I agree the battery has taken a hit. I used to ave about 9hrs of screen on time, now about 6hrs. I also have the chromecast issue. Strange thing is that sometimes the screen doesnt even show up In the battery stats. Sometimes the usage time doesnt change when it shows in battery stats. I am stock, 32gb white US model updated with Kies. I have done many factory resets. I have tried it for 2 days without installing any apps or disabling any samsung bloat, with no change in the tablest behavior.

Kitkat sent my note into fits. Battery life was terribly erratic at first. Dropping 30% in an hour, then suddenly jumping back up by 10%.
I tried factory reset.... nothing changed. Then I used the Battery Callibration app from playstore. Ran it and followed instructions exactly. (Waited til it was charged 100%, then run the program, then completely drain battery, then let it charge continuously back up to 100%).
Go figure............ since then things have calmed down and I am getting the same battery life as on my old Jellybeans note. (I know, because I've got two of these tablets and literally compared them side by side.)
Or, it could also be that after firmware upgrade things need a bit of time to settle down. Hope this helps.

Yeah, I am used to android taking a bit to settle in. After my note 3 updated, it seems like it took a month to get back to my "normal". I hope the tablet does too, just frustrating in the mean time
Mine settled down after about 3 days and several resets. Now the battery seems comparable to pre-KitKat.
I don't think it is kit Kat. I'm running kit Kat and easily see 9 hours of screen on. It is most likely an app you have installed that is doing it.

Then not everyone would then mention that it is not change or improved (in stand-by).
No, normally a app or bad file on the sd-card is killing here the battery. All tools to find this out, are already mentioned here. Good luck.
4.4 in and of itself isn't causing poorer battery life. In fact, owners of other devices are reporting improvements. The Exynos N3 for example. There aren't any battery life issue threads on the Pro forums and they have the same h/w and we're most likely using their 4.4 drivers and kernel. There are threads like this in every device forum when an Android version upgrade is released. It's almost always due to a bad flash or a rogue app or service. That and older apps that haven't been updated in ions and aren't playing well with the new OS. People here have reported shorter charging time and longer battery life. So what's being discussed isn't universal. I'd suggest doing a stock recovery and reviewing older apps and those that aren't developed by known and larger developers.
I have a Shield and S4 too. For every poster raving, there seems an opposite view on battery life and the SD card issue.
The SD issue makes battery life debates moot. Google has an Apple wannabe syndrome. Perhaps they will rebrand as Goople.
You can recalibrate the battery by running it down below 20% then recharging. I have seen it recommended to do this every 30 days or so.
My Note 3 with KitKat started using 20-30% of the battery at night while it was idle. Looked and looked and couldn't find a clue to the problem. Decided to reboot, the next night it was fine, used maybe 2-3%

I did have charging problem and battery drain right after KK update. I have to do the Factory Data Reset. Luckily my tablet is back to normal if not better. I did spend sometime go thru all setting. So I managed to get 4 hrs of screen time with moderate use and I still have about 59% of battery.
So I say kk is good or better then jellybean

I updated a couple days ago and since then my battery just sucks. It just went from 100% to 29% in 2 hours just using Youtube. It can't be right. Definitely it's the upgrade!!
I loved my Note 10.1 2014 out the box that I decided not to root. So it's factory stock and suck very bad.
If it's a bad app I can find it. It worked flawlessly before the upgrade.
Factory reset and see if it still happens. A dirty flash can do weird stuff...

Lollipop update giving HORRIBLE battery life

Anyone else had this problem?
I installed the stock 5.0 update (G900FXXU1BNL9) on my SM-G900F and now the battery life is terrible. I'm lucky if I can get it to last until the end of the day. Today, it's dropped to 50% within 5 hours. Before the lollipop update (again, was on whatever the latest stock version was), my battery life was superb, lasting almost two days!
Anyone know how to resolve this?
battery life
I've had my phone off the charger for less than one hour and I'm already down to 90%. There's definitely something wrong because stock lollipop unroot was giving me much better battery life and performance.

When your battery lasts less than HALF the time of what it used to all because of one update, something is seriously wrong.

well mine lasts a day now and it did then. so either you need to factory wipe, or you need to look at apps you've installed thats not quite optimised for lollipop
Yup, factory reset solves battery drain after LP update, I was up to day 3 without charging this morning with still 18% battery left, but had to charge up as I was going out, reckon it would have lasted the rest of the day though

I installed the update to lollipop..... After that indeed a horrible battery life. So I installed lollipop again using kies software......
Had same experience wipe and reload greatly helped. Supposed to be addressed in 5.1.
To add yet another subjective and anecdotal experience with the new S5 Lollipop update (on Verizon, in my case), I was seeing constant Wi-Fi disconnects (~5/minute) AND battery-life that went from ~15 hours to < 5 hours, until I turned off the "Smart Network Switch". Seems all the network switching was killing the battery as well. Did a FDR and it made no difference. As long as that feature is turned on, my Wi-Fi drops constantly and the phone heats up and the battery dies in a few hours, even without use.
Would be nice to know what I'm missing now that my phone is, apparently, using the Dumb Network Switch instead.

All you're missing now the phone is using the dumb network switch, is bad battery life, constant wifi disconnects, and headaches
I turned it off a while ago, and so have many more people I read about each day - it's supposed to keep you connected to the strongest signal, but in reality, it does the opposite, plus most people only have 1 wifi connection, so it's not necessary to smart switch - and even without it enabled, it will still connect to Data when it goes out of range of WiFi, so that switch is completely pointless to start with

Yeah, I kind of figured that. Sadly, I do have two wireless-access-points in my home to handle range-issues. I had not considered that this "feature" would have a bearing on the switching between them. I did test with one of them turned off, so I could eliminate that as a possible cause before I knew about this broken functionality, and it didn't matter of course.
Does it not seem a bit odd that testing didn't uncover that a Lollipop Galaxy S5, with Smart Network turned on, would kill the battery and render the Wi-Fi inoperable?
Oh well.

You could set up your two APs with the same SSID / Encryption key and have the phone switch seamlessly between them without smart network switch enabled

Is Downgrade Possible on N910C?

Hello,
So I've been wanting to downgrade back to android 4.4.4 mainly for better battery performance, because ever since it went 5.0.1 and up the battery went downhill fast. However, I've been reading that the N910C got a locked bootloader after android 5.1.1, is there anyway to downgrade the bootloader so I could downgrade to android 4.4.4?
Thank you in advance!

Make sure the new battery is purchased direct from Samsung or a reputable carrier, or get a Powerbear or Anker. Lots of fakes/cheap rubbish about.

I went all the way from 4.4.4 to 6.0.1 update by update as they were rolled out, every single update it got worse and worse, 5.0.1 was just obnoxiously terrible, then 5.1.1 kinda bit better compared to 5.0.1 but still crap, 6.0.1 brought in Doze, but that didn't seem to affect anything too much, so pretty much from 5.0.1 forward, battery is just stupidly terrible, I charge the phone 3 times a day on average...

Axon 7 A2017G Android 7 Battery drain

Everything was doing great in android 6.
how can I downgrade to Android 6?
Which version are you using?
If you use the beta 7.1.1 then don't post bugs like yours.
Wait for final version.
Before that do a reset and test your phone again.
Otherwise look also for apps like wakelock detector or better battery stats in its alarm section.

Yeah signal is a big battery drainer, I have low signal in my home and my battery drains like hell, I always keep the phone on charger when I'm here lol.
Once I'm outside though my battery drains much slower.
Fricking network providers and their weak ass antennas, haha.

I probably have something wrong with my unit, becouse it seems like the battery is perfectly calibrated on 7.1.1 and no draint whatsoever, today managed 6h of sot, with some antutu, youtube, play store downloading, 4g+ and snapchat going on. I mean now when i lock the screen on certain % it stays, but on mm it dropped 2-3% after locking

I also thought the same...But I didn't install any new apps other than Pixel Launcher.... And Now...I Uninstalled it.... Still facing the same problem.
I guess it is just the horrible LG software. I also experienced extreme battery drain in standby and could not figure out why.
I decided to flash the Resurrection Remix ROM onto my LG and look at that... Amazing battery life with the same usage and same apps installed.
My battery now drops 2% over night. With stock it was 9-10%.
I know it might not be the answer you are looking for. All I am saying is: maybe the Oreo update will help for Stock solutions.
There are reports out there that show amazing battery life with stock but they often disable a lot of services which in my eyes is not the purpose of a phone. Other than that... Try your luck with Greenify or something like that (could be hard to reach real results here without root though).

Hmm.... But I hav paid 760$ to buy this phone.... Why Should I settle for less ? If its a budget phone...then Ok...but this is a Flagship Device.... I am going to take this to Service Center. These Battey Problems are irritating me.
As far as I remember, that idle battery drain is known issue in Android 7.0 and our precious G6's have 7.0 and probably will never get 7.1 which has this problem fixed, LG rarely releases incremental updates, mostly only releases new devices with newer software (V30 has 7.1, Q6 also has 7.1 and their battery life is great).
7.0 bug causes "Phone Idle" thingy popping up in battery stats almost always on top, sucking up to 1000+mAh of battery in my case so I have to charge the phone almost every single day which is a little bit frustrating considering phone's battery and that it lies unused for around 8 hours every day as I have to leave my phone in locker room when I'm at work. This is the only thing that I hate in this phone.
We have to wait for Oreo... which also makes me a little bit nervous because 8.0 also has many bugs... Yes, 8.1 is right behind the corner but that strange LG update policy will probably halt our phones on 8.0...

Being able to have numerous apps for different purposes downloaded on your phone is what makes our smartphones so good. However, there may be a few that are resulting in rapid Android OS battery drain., without you even knowing about it.
Try These
Stay in Power Saving Mode
Reduce Display light
Try using the App Greenify, helps you identify which apps are causing battery drain, and put these into hibernation when you are not using them, to stop them from lagging your device and leeching the battery

Tried all.... Sadly...no improvement

Actually...Just got October Security Update... Will try this and report...
Sorry to burst your bubble early, but October Security Update won't change a thing. I've had it for a while and phone idle is still on top of my list for battery draining.
*fingers crossed for Oreo to fix this "bug"*
