I have a annoying problem. It's so difficult to get a download to complete in the background. Chrome is hopeless and Firefox isn't much better. Switching to another app or just pressing the home button will almost always terminate the download.
Why is the memory management so aggressive? I am running PureNexus and EX kernel.
Any tips how to change memory settings or other ideas how to fix this would be highly appreciated!
Thanks.

on the treo apps close as soon as they are not on the screen.
thank you

whats wrong with magic button? it closes apps rarather minimise when you press top right button and you can close all runnings apps with ease. what else do you want it do do?
that said, i am actually looking for an alternative myself. although i love it, i do find that it tends to crash out pretty often. i am constantly restarting it. anyone else finding this?
i find that magic button will work fine until... you show the phone screen. it can't seem to close it correctly. it flicks it on an off several times and generally goes bonkers.
For a very minimal look, try VJOkButt.

After using the taskiller "kill all", I get a strange call out screen, it doesnt let me hit any buttons. It looks like when you dial out, grey screen with no contact photo.
Anyone else have this issue?

Try hitting your home button. Sounds like you even killed the launcher. I'd consider adding it to the ignore.
Why do you want to kill tasks? You have all that memory so you might as well let it fill it up. It will unload/kill tasks when needed! It will make the phone faster because its already loaded your apps in the memory ready to be used

I've found that the phone is much better if you keep track of what's running in the background. I had one random reboot, and since I've started pruning apps on it I've had no issues at all. Having all the memory just means more things are sitting in memory, and if you have less than perfect apps, and you do, you can have resource leaks. It isn't needed, I suppose, but I've had advanced task manager for a while and continue to use it.
Yeah added launcher to ignore, and no more issues! Thank you!
So I'm having a rather annoying issue with the icons on my device. In order to save space I moved all my games and large programs i only use rarely to the sd card. i'm trying to keep more space for running programs and such (which is another issue i'm having, seems my phone wont keep more than 100mb running space without me constantly hitting the kill button. and even then its annoying that at start up i have 180mb running space, but quickly loose 100mb and can't get it back till i reboot).
anyway, seems that all the programs i've moved to the storage card only show the generic android icon rather than their icons. this is only on my home screen tho. the programs show the correct icons in the program menu. is there a way to refresh the home screen after boot to fix this? or anything i can do other than putting them back onto my phone?
You could force stop the launcher by going into manage applications. That'd refresh it.

i don't see any process called "launcher" or any with that in the name either.

Sorry, you didn't specify which launcher you are using. If it's stock then it's called Sense. Or you could've downloaded one from the Market such as Launcher Pro Plus, ADW, ADW Ex or Zeam (my personal preference).

yeah, I'm still on sense. for now i like it, will branch out and see what others offer eventually.
so if i kill it? then what? will it auto restart or something?

Yup. When you press the Home key.

cool, thanks. seemed to have solved it, mostly. a few of the apps are still stuck with the default android icon, but the rest are now displaying correctly. guess its a side effect of installing apps to the sd card?
Not sure... I've seen apps on SD take a moment to show after a boot but they always show up for me. Unless the the app is no longer actually installed.

I had this issue repeatedly with angrybirds when it was in a homescreen folder. Since I moved it out of the folder it hasn't done it.
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
seems that is where this problem happens the most. i made folders and put my short cuts in there to help minimize the number of icons on the desktop. was under the impression that it'd help ever so slightly in making it quicker (device wise). but i'm starting to think it doesn't matter that much...
Does anyone know how to clear and or remove the recently accessed tool on the Acer Iconia? It is on the lower left of the screen beside the home key. Thanks
Been wondering this myself lately.. I'm not sure that there is a way besides getting a task killer app. Or maybe navigating to the settings/applications menu and force closing those apps?
A reboot will clear it.
Sigh! Sadly it isn't a running programs button like it should be. I hope there is a way to mod it some day.

Or at least specify which ones are running. Maybe highlight them in that "blue" that the system color has.
I believe that I am experiencing over aggressive app killing. I have noticed with a lot of browser tabs open, the OS seems to be killing swiftkey on me. It will frequently stop and restart mid sentence. I believe this happens when there is roughly 800 MB of RAM available or less. Does anyone know how to stop this?
Is anyone else using Swiftkey with this phone? Could there be a bug with Swiftkey and this phone?
Updated: turns out same thing is happening with Google keyboard, it closes and restarts so I think the OS is the problem

I've now noticed that the stock camera also gets shut off by the OS. I'll be taking several pictures or just trying to focus the camera and the screen (viewfinder) will just go completely dark for a second before coming back on. Strangely this issue does not occur with Open Camera.
did you try adding app to safe list?
Phone manager>Powersaving management>App protection.
disable it for the apps you want to keep in background.
You can also lock the app in recents menu, by swiping down.
Power saving management was already disabled, so nothing should be getting auto cleaned up. I'm not sure what's going on here.
Thanks for the other tip though about locking an app in the recents menu.
Is that different than what is discussed above?
