Custom ROMs (Even TouchWiz custom ROMs) don't need Odin to be flashed.
All you need is a custom recovery.
And you should be able to downgrade, because custom ROMs don't touch the bootloader.

[Q] manually install 4.3.3 via odin

hey guys my i9500 is rooted on 4.2.2 ,i am currently running arrow rom.i just downloaded 4.3.3 official rom for my phone ,i just wanted to know whter it has to be installed in the same way as before via odin ,viz. selecting it on pda or i need to do anything else tooo.and do i need to make an efs backup also before i flash this rom.
i am a newb so plzz try to be noobfriendly
p.s i couldnt find any other post which could help me so if there is any,can you guys please post the link also
If you are still on 4.2.2, then I would recommend to not upgrade to a 4.3 stock rom. Doing so will flash the new bootloader which will setup Knox on your phone. When you have the new bootloader and you flash a custom rom, Knox wil be set to 0x1. You can read more about Knox in the Knox thread.
If you planning on flashing custom roms in the future, then stay away from official firmwares.

You can flash any custom rom based on 4.3 that you want. Because custom roms don't flash the bootloader. There seem te be some problems with sound and wifi (but i'm not sure) when you flash a custom 4.3 rom on an old bootloader. But you can always revert to a custom 4.2.2 rom. So you can just try it
Just don't flash originial firmwares. Custom roms are safe.

[Q] [I9505] Custom rom on KN0X tripped phone?

Hey all, I'd like to install this rom, but my phone (S4 international GT-i9505) is KN0X tripped on 4.3. I currently run 4.3 stock. Is it safe to install this rom, and is it possible to downgrade back to 4.3 stock after?

Yup you can flash any custom rom via custom recovery and Yes you can still downgrade your phone into 4.3 stock rom but remember not to flash a Stock 4.4.2 Kitkat firmware because flashing 4.4.2 firmware can no longer downgrade to 4.3 stock rom. Flashing any custom rom/root will trigger your knox and If you wanna know more about knox , check this thread Have a nice day.

flashing from lollipop to kitkat custom rom?

hi guys, i have flashed android 5.0 stock with odin to my n9005 and then got recovery mode on my phone TWRP and flashed a couple of android 5.0 roms.. now im wondering if im able to go to kitkat (x-note) rom without any problems... my phone bootloader modem n stufs etcs are in lollipop's now as i used odin to upgrade it last time.
Yes you can go back to kitkat just flash kitkat firmware with odin and that's all
Flashing a custom ROM should not touch your installed bootloader or modem.
Try flashing a custom ROM with your existing bootloader and modem. If it doesn't work properly, then consider changing the bootloader and modem.

help, on this frankenstein gs4 phone

i have a samsung galaxy s4 that says its a gt-i9500 on the about device setting but SGH-1337 on odin , i don't know what to do so i can install a custom rom on it or if theres a way to remove the software and install it from the ground up
The phone's motherboard is from an AT&T S4 sgh-i337. It's running at least a 4.3 bootloader and the bootloader is locked which means the phone cannot run custom ROMs.

There are TouchWiz ROMs (Goldeneye for example) that can be flashed with SafeStrap after the NB1 package is flashed via Odin.
When debloated TW is actually surprisingly stable and quick.
Sorry, when I said custom ROMs, I should have stated that the phone can only run custom ROMs that are based off a Samsung ROM and installed via safestrap.
