OBD II adapter connection issues - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an ODBLink MX adapter for my car that has an auto sleep and wake function. The only way it will connect when I get in the car is to unlock the phone for a few seconds and turn it back off. If I leave the phone in my pocket and don't go through the lock screen it won't automatically connect. Any tips? Thanks.

Have you tried adding it as a trusted device?

I did. Didn't seem to help.

Adapter should wake up when you turn ignition on and CAN bus becomes active. I run Android N DP4. It has occasional issues with BT. Reboot clears it.

Auto screen off during phone calls?

Hello,
In the past I am sure that my display screen went off after a certain time during a phone call (saving on battery life). I have noticed recently that the screen stays on the whole time, regardless of call length. I have looked through all the settings I can think off, and can't seem to find one relevant to auto screen shut off during a call.
I have installed Pocket Bluetooth Tools and PocketZenPhone (previously I was using Myhonerofiles).
Is there a setting I am missing, or some software that I can use to have an auto screen shut off during a call.
Many thanks for any help.
The screen will not turn off if Bluetooth headset is being used.
Normally, the screen will not turn off if there is any serial port activity (like while connected through activesync)
Are you sure that in Settings/Backlight/Bttey Power: the "Turn Off Backlight" option is selected?, it should be selected to turn the device screen off after 30 seconds or so.
I use a car kit running on bluetooth, and the screen goes off after 30 seconds!
I've set both the power and the back light to go off after 1 minute. There is not normally a problem and the screen powers off ok, unless I'm on a call (with or without a bluetooth headset).
There is an option in JGUI Phone Profiles that does this.
If you no longer have it installed then you won't get that effect.
When I uninstalled Phone Profiles I missed the screen off option so much I reistalled it just for that.

So does mine.
After installing Pocket Bluetooth Tools (PBT), my screen won't turn off while on call. If I do turn it off during a conversation, my bluetooth headset cuts out while the other person is still on the phone and won't be able to recover it until I hang up.
If I have the timer working for the PBT, then my autoshut off will work, but that's after I change the timer from 60 seconds to 10 seconds in the registry. If I disable the timer, the autoshut off will work. So if you don't want to play around with the registry, then I suggest leaving PBT timer on.
But either way, if the timer is on or off, during a call, it won't turn off automatically with PBT installed. I like PBT because I was able to quickly connect to my headset faster than the built-in MS Bluetooth Stack.
I guess its a case of balancing the use of Pocket Bluetooth tools with the power saving function of having an auto screen cut off during a call. I'm not sure what is more important to me just now.
I am reluctant to return to My Phone Profiles. I am really enjoying the latest version of PocketZenPhone. I think I will make a request to have autoscreen included in a future version. Who knows, I might get lucky!

IF you have Pocket Bluetooth installed, then while on call, it will not automatically turned off. But if you turned it off manually, while on call, it will cut out from the bluetooth headset and I find no way to get it back yet.

[Q] Bluetooth turns off when not connected to anything? WP7/Mango

Hi all,
In recent weeks my bluetooth is turning off when it isn't being used. I only use it for hands free in the car and up until a few weeks ago it always stayed 'On' however now, once disconnected from the car radio, it turns off again.
If I turn it back on away from the car it will go to 'Off' shortly after turning it 'On'.
It's a touch annoying as it means I have to get in the car, turn the engine/radio on, unlock the phone, set bluetooth to 'On' every time I drive and want the phone on hands free.
When connected to the car radio, the bluetooth stays on without problem, so I am not entirely sure what is going on.
I have tried turning battery saver off, restarting the phone etc. but nothing has changed this behaviour.
Has anyone got any suggestions on what I can try next, I'm a bit stuck!
Thanks

[Q] Can my N7 completely turn off when power is disconnected?

hi all
like many others iv put my nexus 7 into the dash of my car. i was wondering if there is an app or way for my nexus to turn itself off when i turn the car off. iv figured out how to make the device turn on when power is restored to the device but still not sure how to turn the device off.
also would anyone know why when the nexus turns on, it immediately mutes itself? it is connected via 3.5mm jack 100% of the time and tasker opens up power amp but other then that i don't know what might be causing it. any help is appreciated on both issues
cheers

If you have tasker installed, create a state which is dependant on battery power - as an exit task tell the tablet to wait for 10 seconds, then call the misc->reboot action with type shutdown to turn the tablet off. The wait 10 seconds it to prevent it powering off when you are cranking the car...
If you just want to turn the screen off, not power the whole tablet down, there's a tasker action Display->System Lock which will turn the screen off..
You could also use tasker to change the system volume for you if you needed as a workaround...
*edit* - BTW - the tasker reboot options don't gracefully reboot / shutdown, so if you have apps running, there's a chance that you may lose data. To do a 'graceful' reboot / shutdown, you are better off using the secure setting plugin...

Custom Tasker Profiles

I personally don't use it, but I know it is a powerful app and since it can be set up to do many things,, I was wondering what custom thing's users are doing with it.
I'll maybe jump on board as well.

I use it to silence my phone whenever my calendar says i'm working. That's about it really. Some of the things I bought it for are built into Android now but I paid for it so I make myself use it lol

I use it primarily to automate my phone's security.
When I'm home ---> phone connects to home wifi ---> tasker + secure settings turns off my pattern lock; turns bluetooth off and adjusts my volumes
When I leave home ---> phone disconnect from wifi ---> tasker turns my pattern lock back on; turns bluetooth on and adjusts my volumes
When I get in my car ---> phone connect to car's bluetooth ---> tasker + secure settings turns off my pattern lock; turns volumes all the way up
When I leave my car ---> phone disconnects from bluetooth ---> tasker turns my pattern lock back on; adjusts volume
When I get to work ---> phone connects to work wifi ---> tasker + secure settings turns off my pattern lock; turns bluetooth off and turns of vibration mode
When I leave work ---> phone disconnects from wifi ---> tasker turns my pattern lock back on; turns bluetooth back on
For me, this makes my phone secure when i need it to be and insecure when I know I'll be using it. At home, in my car and at work are all times that I have my phone on me and actively using it. I don't need a secure screen so I turn it off automatically with Tasker. When I'm away from any of these places I know I'll have a pattern lock in case I lose my phone. Piece of mind and very easy to set up.
I use tasker for a ton of other things (including quiet hours) but security is my most important use.
Here are some I have:
2 sound profiles to put the phone into silent mode at night and during work hours.
An auto off bluetooth profile that turns bluetooth off if it is disconnected for more than 15 minutes.'
3 music profiles all of which auto launch Google Music and auto play and set volumes depending on which bluetooth device or headset is connected. Line in headset also disables lockscreen, car bluetooth puts phone into landscape in the car dock, bluetooth headset disables lockscreen.
360 degree rotation when charging.
Overheating warning.
when it connects to my work wifi > adjust ringer volume to half
when i'm within 100m from the gym > turn BT on
when phone is docked/charging > turn BT on
that's all i've had a chance to dig into as of now. i know there are tons of other more advanced profiles to use/set up, but i haven't bothered with learning them.
1) turn pattern lock off when on home wifi
2) take a photo of anyone putting pattern lock in wrong (twice) and email me the photo
3) when closing the camera app,.look for all photos less than 15 minutes old and upload them using foldersync to my NAS via sftp
4) Schedule Nandroid backup every 4am on Saturday morning (ensure previous nandroid backup has been uploaded to NAS)
5) backup /sdcard every night to NAS
6) (Task only) - homescreen shortcut to flash all zips in alphabetical order in folder /sdcard/AFlash/zips

I use a profile to turn off the lock when I'm home, and turn it back on when I'm away.
One to turn off the Wi-Fi when not home and back on when I get back home
And another to download the national geographic photo of the day and set it as the wallpaper every morning.

For those with Tasks relative to being in the car, how are you determining that location?
I've been using the invert of my Home location, but that's not quite refined enough.
Can Tasker detect the uConnect BT in my Jeep? Or maybe by detecting accelerometer motions?
Curious.

Tasker can use your connect to BT to trigger actions.
You can have your device turn on BT (for a set number of minutes) when you disconnect from your Wifi. Then when it connects to your car via BT, it can turn off Wifi and/or open up your music player and increase the volume. Or do any number of things.

That list is a bit old list but I'm always adding or trying differnet things. Starting to use Scenes more now. Like the Sleepy Time one is now a Notification that pops up only during certain time then when I click it there is a small Scene with simple buttons, see attached images.
Also use Tasker to give me info in DashClock. Using OpenMic+ to launch Tasker stuff will make for some fun stuff too.
i use nfc tags associated with my car and home stuff. a tag has a tasker task linked to it. I also use a gym task/profile where when i get within 300m of the gym it turns bluetooth on adjusts volumes etc.

Hi,
how do you trigger the "quiet hours" setting with tasker? I want to have different startiing/ending times for quiet hours - including white list for calling. So I thought I try to find a way to trigger it from tasker.
Any ideas here?
cheers,
Tom

Can't shutdown my head unit

Hello everyone,
I have the following chinese head unit. When I switch the ignition off, it only closes the screen but the head unit itself keeps operating.
It keeps paired with my bluetooth and hotspot. Doesn't shutdown.
I tried to install an application for shutdown and when I use it is shuts the unit down and then reboot it..
I tried to enter the factory settings and switch it to direct shutdown but no use. I also tried to enter from the factory settings (Engineering debugging menu) and switch it to user settings but still no use.
Can anyone help how to shutdown this head unit?? It keeps draining my battery as it when I tried to measure the parasite load when it is running but screen shutdown and it was 0.6 Amps. which is a lot...
My last resort is to make an external power switch to it.. which I really don't like but what can I do...
Waiting for your feedback as you might help me with it!
Thanks in advance.
Mine has a connector for demo mode that I had to unplug so the head unit will turn off when the switch is off
So you have to physically pull out a connector for it to power off...
But in this case it won't shut down... you will just cut the power off it. Isn't that harmful to the unit hardware and software?
There are two reasons why unit is not to shuting down...
First - in "settings" or "infotainment" area find UNIT TIMEOUT / SHUTDOWN SETTING , must be at value "0 min" instead of max min.
Second - Red wire (ACC+ KEY) from cable harness is connected to 12V battery constant (usually it is yellow wire), switch those and see if helps. Key for ignition must turn unit off when shuts down engine.

I already connected the Acc wire to the Acc, that's why when I switch the engine off and remove my key the unit only closes the screen but it doesn't shutdown.
For the Unit timeout option, or shutdown option, I can't find it on my unit OS... tried the search function and tried going through each and every bailable list and choice but didn't find it!!!!!!!!!
Connect both ACC and +12V wires from HU to car ACC. This way, when ignition is off HU power is off.

Don't think that's a good idea. Because this will interrupt power supply completely when you turn off ignition. This way the head unit has no chance to shutdown or switch into sleep mode. It's like removing the battery from your laptop.

I don't know your head unit but there may be an ACC delay option.
Some head units allows to set up a waiting time up to 60 minutes before shutdown/sleep.

There is an option for that just need to find it, if not in settings or in infotainment area try in factory settings
Okay as an update for the situation,
I couldn't find an option for it, however, I installed an APK file for shutdown and restart.
In addition I rewired it so that the main +12V wire to an (on/off) switch, when I want to shut it down, I just use the APK I installed, wait until it shuts down, when it tries to restart again I use the On/Off switch to permanently power it off....

Ok , but there is no need for application, on factory settings when you type in PIN codes just enter PIN 1414 and device will shut down, that is code for my device.

Did you find a solution for this issue? My head unit stays in sleep mode forever and does not turn off, although I have set the sleep delay in factory settings correctly.

Sleep delay? Are you talking about ACC delay?
Nothing is forever but how long is your forever? Usually the head units stay in sleep mode for around three days before shutdown.

Yes ACC delay. The delay is configurable. I have set it to 10 - there is no unit, but the unit does not turn off after 10 (seconds|minutes|hours). As maximum is 3600, I presume the unit is not days.

ACC delay means: how long to wait before entering sleep mode after ignition is off. This has nothing to do with the sleep duration. I don't know any head unit which allows to configure sleep duration.
[ign off] --> [ACC delay] --> [start to sleep]
