Dear all,
I have sasmsung s4 i9500 model with 5.0.1
I am flashing many custom recoveries like cwm, twrp, philz touch....but none of the recovery is opening.....when i flash the recovery it gets installed and passed...but when i go into recovery mode it always go in default recovery and not in custom recovery
Please help!!
Then try rooting your phone first and flash recovery using an app called Flashify.
Do not check auto reboot in Odin. Flash Twp, remove battery, remove USB cable, replace battery, boot into recovery.

Hi there,
I wanted to install latest CM10.1 coming from 0526 yesterday on my Defy+.
Did a backup with TWRP first.
Then the flashing failed, so I wanted to recover from backup.
Phone now is stuck at Motorola M not booting anymore.
When I enter bootloader (vol down) and want to enter "custom recover" he just jumps back to the same menu. TWRP is not starting.
Choosing "stock recovery" is possible, but if I choose a CM10.1 zip file it's not accepted.
RSD Lite does not recognize the phone when it's in the bootloader menu or in the stock recover menu.
Help is very much appreciated, what can I do?
Thanks and best regards.

Okay, I found out why I couldn't enter flash mode by using Vol+ when starting.
The phone powered already up when I put in the battery, so I always pushed Vol+ too late.
Pressing Vol+ WHILE inserting the battery did the trick, phone went into flash mode and I could re-flash 2.3.6 sbf using RSD lite.

Still not sure why TWRP was messed up just by recovering from a TWRP-made backup...
Best regards
Same situation to me.
I opened Terminal Emulator, gained root access
then type below command to get recovery mode
# reboot recovery
Custom recovery not running
I have a similar issue.
I rooted my stock S4 and installed the proper TWRP.
Heres where my situation is a bit different from anything I have seen on the forum threads. All attempts—both hard and soft—to reboot into recovery, all direct the reboot to Odin Mode. Just to clarify I have not flashed any rom custom or stock, the only thing I have flashed has been TWRP and CWM recovery. And I only flashed CWM AFTER the Failings of TWRP.
When I attempt to boot into recovery, it flashes the blue characters then sends me into a Odin Mode loop until I hard-key the "download mode" and select restart to boot the os normally.
my phone works fine other than not being able to flash custom roms, which is a pain in the arse especially with all the s4 Bloatware.
Here's what I have done so far to help myself:
• install CWM recovery
• tried hard-key reboot recovery (power off/ press home/volume up/power)
• soft reboot recovery through both Goo, CWM and ROM Toolbox pro
• removed my sd card and tried reboot recovery
• removed battery and reboot recovery
• emulator reboot recovery
• reboot recovery both with and without usb cable
I looked into flashing stock with Odin but all tutorials i could find were of an older version and I didnt want to guess what I needed to get that to work,
Please let me know if theres anything I can do.

Alright so I'm pretty noobish. I tried to back up my stock rom before flashing for a custom rom. I used custom recovery via odin. After that I went into rom manager, set up custom recovery version 5.x.x because I thought you could use rom manager after that. I thought that was the whole point of custom recovery for rom manager. Anyways after selecting backup current rom in rom manager I'm now stuck in a continuous recovery boot loop saying:
recovery booting......
recovery is not seandroid enforcing
set warranty bit : recovery
How do I get out of the boot loop? I've read that you can flash stock rom via odin, but all I was trying to do was backup the current one via rom manager from the custom recovery that I had already flashed. I'm thinking I messed up by not manually backing up. Am I screwed? Is there anyone who can help?!? Sorry for being so bad at this.
so i went ahead and flashed a stock rom and it booted it out of custom recovery boot loop. Didn't want to have to do that but o well.
Don't use a ROM manager, they are buggy and cause issues. - For future reference to get out of a bootloop just hold volume and power and it'll boot you into either download mode or Recovery mode (depending if you choose Vol UP or DN)
If you got the bootloop by just installing the Custom recovery, reboot the device by taking the battery out and placing it back in and powering up. If that doesn't work, reflash your recovery again and you should be good to go.
As for the recovery is not seandroid enforcing
set warranty bit : recovery
That is normal behaviour on a Samsung device when you use a custom recovery and nothing to worry about.

Yeah, I'm using TRWP now, I couldn't get philzrecovery cwm to work, nor the other custom recovery cmw. Didn't know you could reflash a recovery. Good to know. Thanks
After attempting to install custom ROM (goldeneye) onto my phone through safestrap my phone has bricked.
It also won't boot into recovery or download mode so I'm unable to try and flash stock with Odin.
Is there anything I can do at this point or am I stuck with a really expensive paperweight??
How exactly did you flash the ROM. Was it the corr3ct safestrap version and ROM for your phone? If it wont turn on, try JTAG repair.
I have a SM-900I (Taiwan version) with the Samsung version of Lollipop 5.0. I'm trying to install a custom recovery for backup purposes. I'm flashing the TWRP2.8.0.1 image using Odin 3.07. It seems I can have the custom recovery installed, but when I restart the phone it goes back to the stock recovery.
In Odin I'm checking only "Reset F. Time", I'm loading the tarball of the recovery as PDA, I start the process and it stops once it has reached "RES OK!!", I unplug the phone and shut it off, start it in recovery mode and the custom recovery is there, but after I launch Android and try to access recovery again I load up the stock recovery.
Solved by using a more up to date recovery image.
Tick off the auto reboot on odin
Then
Flash your recovery
Wait until it's done abt 2 min
Remove your battry and put it back
Go straightly in to the recovery mode by pressing volume up+power and home
U will see your custom recovery
Ps: flash the compatible twrp or phiztouch to your device
Hello,

The download mode work normaly and the phone work normal, only recovery on fastboot. I have rooted ls980 on 4.4.2 stock and i wont to install custom roms.
