Text reading app

I was just wondering if anyone out there knows if there are any apps available that will do two things that I miss from my last Nokia.
The first is an app that says who the caller who is currently calling is so you can tell who it is before you take your phone out of your pocket.
And the second app is one that works with your messages and reads them out to you when you receive them. I used to use this function while driving so I didn't have to read the screen.
I'm not 100% if these exist as the market is so annoying at showing certain apps on certain phones. But if they do then please let me know and offer any suggestions on how to get my UK desire on t-mobile to see it and use it.
Thank you

Stolen Phone

Hey,
I've been lookin for an App that can locate my phone via GPS if it gets stolen, and found the app, Where's My Droid, but it seems like it have a limitation, coz u have to enable GPS before getting the phone stolen, or lost, nd lets be honest, it's a battery killer, and you wouldn't enable it everytime you are out So have any of you seen a program like this, or would have the functions like:
Silent enable GPS via "Special SMS"
Silently reporting to your spare phone with location
Automatic detection if the SIM has been changed and send back the new number
Runs on startup silent and is active at all times
Password protected Menu
At my old HTC Touch Diamond WM 6.1 i had a software called W.I.M.P ( Where's My Phone) wich had these functions, wich made it easier to track a phone if it got stolen.
Hope someone out there have a solution

Just looking at it now, and wow!! As far as i can see, this is exactly what Im looking for are you using the app your self?

I am using wavesecure as I got a deal on the subscription for just £10 for the year.
It is a very good piece of software and works very well.
It uses gps to track the phone but will only activate it if it needs to send the location of the phone so not on all the time.
Would recommend it.

I use wavesecure its great!
I got a subscription via the MoDaCo Plus scheme.

Another vote for Wavesecure.
Their service is impeccable - I have logged ticket requests asking general questions about Wavesecure and their responses have been very through and within 12hrs.
The application is great, make sure you follow the guide on installing the application as a system application, which will make it hard reset proof in case some clown steals your phone and tried to wipe it.
EDIT: I cant post links outside of this forum so I cant hotlink you to their site and guide.
GPS only drains battery when used (i.e. when you open an app that needs GPS like Maps etc.) and when u see the icon in the TopBar. Theres no need to turn it off. I always have it enabled and there is no noticable battery drain...
--> You can use WheresMyDroid without any problems

The problem with wheresmyDroid is that you can't remote enable it, so It's pretty easy for the thief to turn gps off

A free alternative would be "Lookout mobile security"
Seach on the market.

AntiDroidTheft can do that, but I don't think it's hard reset proof.

You can't just uninstall it without a password, but it can be removed if the thief does a hard reset. If he does that before changing the sim card, this program is useless. If he doesn't hard reset, you can locate your phone and you will get an email when he changes the sim card.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I would definitely recommend WaveSecure.
If someone changes the sim card, it sends a text message to any number(s) you have set up for it. The text message contains the phone number of the newly inserted sim card.
I've been using it since the start, and I wouldn't be without it.
OK, I know it's not free, but it's very cheap compared to replacing your Desire!
Take a look at Prey in the market or at preyproject.com
Completely free, and starts tracking your phone once activated and sending you regular reports with location, ip and traceroutes. If the sim is replaced it can send an SMS to another phone number. They also have apps for PC and Macs. Nice to have it all under one account

Also check out mobile defense, similar to wavesecure but I like the UI more. Better yet use both .

Few question/prolems

Hiii frnds
i am new to android so have lots of questions
1. How to update software version. By mistake I entered my yahoo id where samsung id was needed. Now when I try to change it, it says u need to restore factory setting.
What should I do, I don't want install all my stuff again.
2.how to store places on the maps. I mean if I want to save my residence, and select the show direction option from my current location. How will I be able to do this?
3. What is the use of mini diary?
4.i have one personal excel document stored on my phone and which is password protected. Is there any software which open such files?
5. What is the fastest way to exit internet explorer? Its the only option top go back all the places we surf? And even if we go back all the pages, that application is shown active in task manager
6. Last question - regarding yahoo msnger app
I tried making voice call through msnger but everytime main camera was activated. Can anybody tell me how to change the camera setting. I tried in seting but couldn't find the option

One by one answers will do but plz reply
Thanks

5. Just press the home button to exit the browser. In a well behaved app it will just sit in memory not using any CPU or any battery. android will silently kill the browser app if it needs the ram for another app.
Unfortunately this only works if the app is well behaved. The XDA forum app for example is a bad app. As it breaks the Android guide lines because after you press the home button the app still servers adverts in the background eating up CPU.
A good Android app is meant to COMPLETELY shut down when the app is not visible (by pressing for example the home button). So it does not matter that it is sitting in ram as it is not using any CPU or battery.
Thanks louis
my 6th question also got sorted
So now just first four question remaining
Plz reply if u know the answers

One .
Restore factory settings or not your choice .
Three
Its a small diary as opposed to a big diary you right stuff in it >>> today i went to the zoo .

1. The email address you entered should not effect the updates from Kies. However the carrier branding (eg T-Mobile) can prevent updates from comming through. What version are you on? My last update from Kies brought me upto build KF3.
The locked email is purely required for app purchases. If you get a replacement phone, using the same email address will restore all your download apps. However if you want to sell your phone then you need to wipe the phone so the buyer can't use your account.
Hey Shantanu, you Bengali or what?
1- If you meant Firmware update, then you just plug the device in with PC and run Kies, if there is an update available it will say.
3- It's a Diary with Location/Geo tagging feature.
6- Just press Home button to minimize from Stock browser, then Exit via Task Manager.
Regards.
@louis
If u talking about baseband version than its DDKE2. And android version is 2.3.3
@ithehappy

I used only two Nokia's before, E90, N95, they were Symbian and supported the OTA update, but this ain't Symbian, nor Nokia.
Yup I knw. Its new operating system at least for me so its obvious that I won't be having knowledge of it
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
It is the build number I was asking for and who is your carrier? The carrier branding can stop the update coming through Kies (the carrier has to proved the updates and a lot of them don't bother.)
Can u tell where would I get that
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Menu/settings/about phone/
The build number is the last entry in "about phone"
Gingerbread.xwkf3
I just done the updating.
Is it latest now?

[Q] Contact photo on incoming call

Hello,
I am using JB 4.2.2 stock Unrooted.
When I receive a call, photo of the contact comes in the Half screen only. Is there any way to make it full? I dont want to root my phone and don't want to use 3rd party crap Full Screen Caller like app.
Is there any mods available?
Thank you.
Thanks for asking... I'm looking for a hack too...

Half Screen Picture issue
I am trying to find out the same issue...please let us know if anyone knows about this....
I've been using Facebook Sync Hack since like ICS, let's you choose size of contact pic and resolution works awesome, some names don't sync automatically depending how you have them in your contacts vs what their FB name is though, but you manually link them once and its done forever.

[Q] droidwall / message notification issue

Hi, I'm currently using DroidWall and have switched to whitelist rather than blacklisting apps..
now, I'm having issues with whatsapp.. although I have selected it on DroidWall to enable internet access, I do not receive any messages until I actually open whatsapp before it starts downloading.
To me, this appears to be a background/sync issue.. but I just cannot figure out what else I need to give internet access to so that messages get downloaded
any help??
ps.. i have searched, but couldnt find any thread under Galaxy s4 that mentions Droidwall/whatsapp issue
pps.. newbie here.. nice to meet u all

Hi, did you enable DHCP+DNS Service and (NTP) and Download manager?
Are you sure that this is an issue caused by Droidwall?
WhatsApp often has problems like this one

Hi, I've enabled Download manager - I found I wasn't able to download updates from market place without having this enabled...
but what about DHCP + DNS Service... what names could they be under
And, this is caused by DroidWall, as having again switched to Blacklist.. its working again... so its just a matter of finding out what name the above goes as..

You can try the app Af wall+ there you have a more detailed list of apps. It is a firewall also.
I will show you my list, maybe it helps and WhatsApp is working fine to me.

Hi, I tried using AFWall+, and gave access to the following apps:
- Whatsapp
- DHCP+DNS Service
- NTP

But I'm still having the same problem. Also, to note... I have got Power Saving enabled (but I always had this since getting the phone a year ago and it wasnt an issue before).
I have added screenshot attachments.. can you please tell me what apps I need to give internet access to for messages to be received when whatsapp is closed..
Not sure if the following info is required:
Galaxy S4 GT-I9505
Android Ver 4.4.2
