S Health. Requires a SIM card to work though.

I've tried several free pedometer apps from the Market, including Pedometer by Appstone Corp and Pedometer Widget Free. They either didn't bother to calculate the distance I had walked, or were grossly inaccurate.
Can anyone recommend, based on personal experience, a pedometer app (free or paid doesn't matter) that measures simply how many miles I've walked, as opposed to how many steps I've taken, calories I've burned, etc.?
Thank you.

maybe not exactly a pedometer but google has 'my tracks' out which using gps calculates distance and elevation and speed so it maybe overkill but I think it's accurate within 20' in areas with a sky view. I've used it for unicycle rides and plan on using it for snowboarding when I get the chance.
Downloaded and will try it when next I walk.
Thank you.

I like CardioTrainer. It has all the bells and whistles of a. GPS as well as a nice little pedometer built it. I have used it just on my treadmill and on a few walks outdoors. Works quite well for distance traveled.
Runkeeper Pro is the best walk tracking app out there. Very cool online logging, etc. Try that out.

Is it GPS based?
Endomondo
Endomondo shows you exactly where you have gone via gps and calculates distance and speed
For now I've settled on Google Tracks. I was able to use it yesterday to measure my walk up to McD's.
I'll definitely keep the other suggestions in mind should Google Tracks ever let me down.
Hi there,
As the Nexus 5 includes a Step counter and since I always liked devices like the fitbit - I wondered
about the "best" activity/fitness tracker out there. Basically to just track the daily activity in the background..
I found so far:
Moves
Runtastic Pedometer
Sensorfit
What do you think? Which one do you like the most?
Thanks,
Christoph

I like runkeeper. It keeps track of not only distance covered but also routes. I use it to view my past routes and change it up a bit for future runs.
I'd like to have something that runs in the background, not only for workouts
Moves seems to record far too much I think, runtastic seems to be accurate but you can use it only for workouts

ya i was looking for the same type of thing.. very minimal, maybe gps logging not sure... just a simple counter, i dont care how many calories i burnt/etc i just want data logged daily/hourly in a chart maybe.
Moves uses WAY too much battery even with all the N5 optimizations. Anyone know of any good ones that don't hog battery? BTW, this thread should go in Q&A.
I thought google now was supposed to keep track and give you a report at the beginning of every month???
i use endomondo for all my activity. according to endomondo, it has options to use pedometer as well.
Noom Walk
I use Noom Walk. Works well in the background with minimal battery usage.

Works great in terms of accuracy so definitely recommended. One issue on kit Kat is the counter doesn't always reset at midnight.

from what ive read i got the impression the counter resets at boot.
Another Endomondo user here. Surely worth a try, and a very mature app at this point.
will also try nomwalk I think, Moves eats your battery, not suitable with a N5 in my opinion as it has a small battery anyway
are there any apps that actually use the N5 built-in step counter yet? I suppose that's more accurate than the algorithms most apps use?
and it's "always on" anyway
I want to remove the S Health app, but still to be able to monitor the heart rate.
Is there any third party app that can use the S5 sensor?
Plenty of apps that use the camera lens if you don't mind finger prints on lens. Why do you want to remove S health?

i wonder if the apps that use the camera flash are as accurate?
I would like to know this also. I looked at s-health. I don't want to monitor my activity, but I would like to have an app that just reads heart rate.

You can use the hardware module test. Access it by dialing *#0*#. Then go to sensors, then start under HRM sensor. It's not pretty but it works.

Thanks for the reply. Definitely not elegant. I hope someone comes out with a simple heart rate monitor app so we don't have to choose between the hardware module test and s health. Samsung is like a junkie except they are addicted to bloat not smack.
So google fit just gives you steps taken. Was looking for something to give distance, calories, etc. Similar to fitbit. Any app to give that info for my wear watch?

Sign me up. I was a little surprised it doesn't do more.
I think RunKeeper can provide you this information.

Doesn't display it on my watch? And runkeeper is just for specific exercise activities, not everyday daily walking and monitoring that info. To my knowledge at least.

Yes, it has to be running and always taking your GPS location. That would be a battery killer.
What I think we are looking for is something more like Samsung S Health that just uses pedometer data and converts it to calories based on your weight.
I use UP by Jawbone in conjunction with MapMyFitness. UP steps are sent to the MapMyFitness app and is converted to calories for calorie-tracking

The fit steps seem to be retardedly high. I cant seem to get past this. It would be great otherwise I think.
My google fit updated. Does anyone notice lower step counts? it seems pretty close to jawbone now.
I don't know about you guys but I have no faith in fit at all cause when I wake up, go to the kitchen and after that go to take shower, my lg g watch register more than 500 paces and I did max of 20!!!

After the last update or 2 FIT was right on par with the normal pedometer and Jawbone up. I dont know what happened but my steps were fixed.
And yeah... Fit used to be like 2x higher than the other 2 pedometers.
Fit and Jawbone can coexist?
I mean can I use both in the smartwatch? I prefer Jawbone but it was nice to have Fit too. I use also Map my fitness and Record... Still testing...
Anyone got this watch?

I currently have it, but was wondering if anyone else has it? Works pretty good but would like to possibly install more apps IF POSSIBLE or have a good app that works on my note 4 to push notifications.... hopefully someone can help me out!

Hi ryvandal, I have been thinking about this watches. Do you recomend them? What about battery life and heart rate monitor? Is it reliable? Thanks for answer.

Overall its okay. It LOOKS good though, the major downfall of it is the battery unfortunately
The watch battery is fine PAIRED with a phone, battery would last days paired with the phone, but it would die within about 6-8 hours if the SENSOR is on (sensor means when you look at the watch it'll turn on and show you the time)
So I have the sensor "off" and I press the button to see the time... works for me.... Other then that, its pretty decent.... There are no other apps you can get for it though so dont be shocked when all you have are the 4 faces for the watch.
Thanks for quick reply. And what about heart rate sensor accuracy and sport activity tracking functionality?
