How to stop Google Play Services update on watch? - Wear OS Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

does anyone know how to block the forced update of Google play services on the watch? (you can tell when it's pushing hard to come in because your Wi-Fi will mysteriously start turning itself on ... not kidding ... but it will slowly sneak in over Bluetooth if no Wi-Fi network)
When my watch invisibly updates Google play services (on the watch) to 9.0.83 from 8.6.98 then 'android wear on the phone' says "Trying to connect" for 3-10 minutes every time instead of the 5-10 seconds it used to take with 8.6.98. it also randomly disconnects a lot more too, and after running a few hours performance gets laggy.
basically, on both my huawei watches this update is 'malware' and I'd like to know how to block this 'worm,' because it degrades all other Google products I love.
any help appreciated.

Google Latitude + HTC HD2 = Not updating properly

Hi Guys,
This has sorta been covered in the Google Mobile forum but I have yet to see anyone that has tested the Google Latitude in their HTC HD2.
The thing is, Latitude works but with 2 serious practical flaws:
1. Phone must be on, no standby so only can do minimum backlight.
2. Latitude does not work when Mobile Google Maps is minimised, ie. if you lock the device and although the phone is on, Latitude won't update.
What the Latitude suppose to do:
1. Still update location even if Google Maps minimised (phone must be on)
2. Still update location even if Google Maps has exited, but you check the "Yes" option for background updating (phone must be on)
So in real terms, you can't even put the phone in your pocket as the screen is not locked and it could start dialling someone in your contact list, let alone change settings for other programs.
It would be nice if Latidude can do its 2 main features above properly with the phone turned off, ie. you can still receive a call when the phone is off, weather still updates when the phone is off.
Anyone with similar issues I would appreciate any comments you may have.
Hi, I have this problem, too.
Mine does update the position when GM are closed nad 'yes' is choosen. Every 20 minutes, as it is supposed to do. It also uses only fast BTS fix, not GPS.
GM use notification (low-level alarm) to wake the phone up after 20 minutes and update the position. You can you for example FDC task manager to check if the notification exists after closing GM. It has page with notifications. You should see something with 'google' there, with time set 20 minutes after the GM exit.
http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm
I'm not sure how it works with GM only minimized. Will report later.
It seems to update the location once per 20 minutes also when minimized (and not asleep (in charger).
Works every 20 minutes with application minimized and device asleep.
Btw. my version is 3.3.1
Latitude updates work or not.
Maybe my experiences helps.
I've been using the HD2 for a few weeks now. During initial startup several questions are asked. One of them seems to be if you want to allow location updates to be send from your phone.
Out of the box I had some time and answered all these questions. Next few weeks my friends tell me my Latitude position was being updated. I never started Google Maps though. Not once.
After a few weeks I had to upgrade the ROM (SMS bug). This time I did not take the time to answer all the questions (next next skip skip). In my opinion I would be able to set these settings in several menu's later on. As from this point on Latitude behaves like reported on this thread. Only updates when Maps is active.
Sorry to wake this topic but it seems still unresolved and I have some input.
Given that you have accepted the terms and conditions, especially location updates to be sent from your phone, Google Maps should update your position every 20 minutes, regardless whether it is running or not.
Once we have program settings out of the way as a reason, I think the problem is not related to Google Maps at all, but is actually an internet connection issue. In other words, I think GM is correctly updating your position every 20 minutes, it just cannot send it over the Internet for other people (and yourself) to use it.
Why do I think so? Because I have exactly the same problem as you guys describe, but only while at home. As strange as it sounds, the moment I go to my office, my position is perfectly updated every 20 minutes (I can see it on my Google account), but when I leave the office, my location stops updating. Mind it I never change any settings when I enter my office so this cannot be related to any activity I did. The only way I can explain this is that when I leave the office, my phone fails to connect and transmit my position, while it succeeds while I'm in the office.
As a next step I am trying to troubleshoot internet connections. I think the phone is using wifi to transmit location information. If it was using the GSM network, it wouldn't behave differently when I am on different places (the mobile operator is always the same and the Internet settings are always the same).

Google maps power drain

I have updated google maps to the latest update yesterday and now google maps has 2 processes constantly running/sitting in memory and power consumption went up a lot. Battery usage also shows now that google maps is using quite a bit of power, which never happened before. Has anyone noticed the same thing or is it just me?
have you logged into Lattitude?
Nope, I never use Latitude. Just checked and it is off.
Actually I have just uninstalled the update and was able to kill maps process and it didn't come back. Then installed it back and now, even if I kill google maps in the running apps manager, it immediately comes back
Well, THAT happened/happens on mine from the very first beginning even with no maps-update after unboxing and I received one of the first batches of SGS II in Europe.
But since I do not have a batt drain prob (even with heavy use my SGS II lasts minimum 24 hrs) I did not mind maps consuming SOME power ................
.......... and BTW I wouldn´t know how to stop maps-proc since I am (still) not rooted...............
Mine stops eating battery if I disable "use wireless network" under "Location and security". But of course it takes longer to locate me since it needs to get a GPS fix each time I use Maps.

That was the pair of tips I used to get the use I needed with no background process killing my battery. don't update the app for now until I hear the issue is sorted and only use the GPS, not wireless network, to navigate. The latter part is fine as the GPS lock is so fast anyway - usually about a second or two to be down to about 60ft or less.
The extra bonus is that if I'm out with only a 3G connection then dropping the wireless part under "location and security" also stops the wireless services from kicking in on the back of the maps system trying to use it for location. I can be using my phone all day and not have "wi-fi sharing" pop up and start gobbling up %'s even by the end of the day.
I got same issue - Maps process starts randomly and stays up for long time last time I saw it it was 125h consuming up to 14% of battery :/ quite annoying if you kill the process it pops up back again right away...
That Latitude stuff is horrible for battery.
Settings- Applications- Manage Applications- All- Maps- Clear Data.
Regards.
Possibly the cache map tiles in advance (forget the exact title) in the maps menu is checked and is downloading even when you don't have maps open?
Just disable "use wirelrss network" in settings...it should do the trick...seems like it updates your location continuously when you set that feature on....you can always turn it back on when you actually have to use maps....
My problem is that the battery used by gps nd google maps is enormous.... :-(

[Q] Android Wear does no longer sync automatically

Hello XDA,
i got an Issue with my Nexus 5 and Moto 360.
Both do run the latest Lollipop Versions.
In the past i had a constant notification which is also often discussed here and in other forums. "Android Wear Connected. Running sync loop..."
But my current problem is that my android wear watch is connected and also does talk to the smartphone, e.g. shows notifications.
But if i install or deinstall a watchface for example this does not get synchronized with my watch.
If i do want it to i need to manually go to the android wear app and within the setttings hit the button "Apps erneut synchronisieren" which translates to possibly "Resync apps".
I tried to understand why this happens and since when, in this moment i realized that i no longer have the notification "Android Wear Connected. Running sync loop...".
Has anybody the same issue, or if not has anyone ideas what could be the problem.
Restarting of device, watch, toggling of bluetooth etc. have not helped.
Greetings Marco

Phone won't mute anymore!

i all
I have a LG G watch R, i have had this around 10 months, its paired with my Nexus 5.
Over the past year there has been a few occasions where suddenly the "mute phone alerts and calls" option has suddenly stopped working! *Half way through the day all of a sudden id still get the message on my watch but my phone would make a noise too!
Usually i fixed this by uni stalling android wear, resetting the watch back to factory setting and re pairing them..this usually solved the issue until next time....however!
This time it happened again and no matter what i do it wont work! i have the option to mute phone call and alerts but the phone still makes a noise and is not muted! when i toggle the volume bar it used to say before "muted by android wear" but now it does not.
My phone was updated to android 6.0 last week but for the past week its been fine so i doubt it related to that as like i said its done this before on lollipop.
Few more things to note that may be related, if i swipe down in my notifications box it used to say "android wear connected" but thats no longer there, and if i go into the watch and go into settings and bluetooth devices it does not say anything it just says scanning for nearby devices, and i notced once it said nexus 5 disconcerted??
I must stress that i am connected to my phone as all my notifications come through on my watch fine.
Anyone had this or know a fix?
Thanks
Chris*
Did you find a solution?
Same problem here. I have moto x play (no developer edition) unlocked bootloader/rooted/lollipop 5.1 and LG G watch R.
In my case it seems related to Moto Display (Motorola'app similar to ambient display). If I disable it, mute comes back.
I tried to uninstall android wear app, and then installing 1.3 version. No fix.
On reddit I read that it should be the last update of Google play service instead: user restored his phone fixing the problem. I tried to uninstall play service (no factory reset)...no fix
EDIT: Ok I have just found a middle-solution. I downloaded a module for Xposed (True silent Mode), after activation you will not able to receive any vibrations or sounds on your phone, but you'll receive a vibration on your watch instead. It's similar to android wear function, the difference is if you disconnect your watch you have to disable the silent mode on your phone manually. Hoping Google (or Motorola in my case) fixes it soon in the meantime...
Looks like we are not alone: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topicsearchin/android-wear/mute

I see other reports and see the issue myself where android wear often says that the watch isn't connected anymore while the watch says it is. And voice commands etc. on the watch still works (I guess they go directly through GMS not involving the android wear app itself).
Maybe there is a bug between android wear and the detection of the connected watch that keeps thinking android wear that no watch is connected and then not muting the notifications on the phone.
Do you have the cloud sync enabled? It's in "privacy & personal data". I have.
Hi still have the same issue, and yes my watch thinks it's not connected also
I have tried both cloud synced and un synced
Try putting your watch on charge, then taking it off
It worked for me, you will notice when on charge the ph is connected but notifications are not muted
I think the ph must think the watch is charging...
The latest wear app version fixed it for me.

google play service finished, restart? Rk3188, Xtrons TD696AS, Android 5.1

Hi,
when I turn my car off, the system shows shutdown. In the settings I marked to stay alive for 30 minutes (to get updates over wifi at home).
If i restart my car in these 30 minutes the screen is back, but there is although a message google play service finished (my language is german: google play Dienste wurden beendet).
Is there any way to keep the google play service alive? How can I initiate a restart?
Thanks in advance for any help.
