Has this phone received ANY updates? When I run Motorola's update through the Android Settings app, I'm told the phone is up-to-date, but the phone is still running Android 7.0 with a 1/1/17 security patch... is this some kind of joke?
My updates are from September. Not sure what's going on with your updates. You can manually update via fastboot or TWRP if you aren't getting them...

How do I do this?
The UK finally got the May security patch a week or so ago and when i asked Moto UK about updates they were a little terse with their answer.
I have loved my Moto phones since owning a Moto Defy but i have been looking at Nokia handsets and they seem very good for the money and with the promise of timely updates.
There's a thread in here somewhere with all the firmware links for TWRP. Those are all flashable if you have it. If not, there's another thread with fastboot firmware. Just gotta find which you need and get cracking
Hello,
I bought my phone on Ocotber 2017 and i haven't received any updates yet. My latest security patch are from August 2017.

Yes, I believe the August 1st security patch, Android 7.0 is the latest update for the US variant. Build number is NPN25. 137-83.
I got mine from Amazon UK and it's on the august patch.
It's dual SIM, that might make a difference?
I have the Amazon Prime exclusive version (U.S. XT1687) with 7.0 (NPN25.137-83), Security Patch 8/1/2017

Yep. I'm on RETUS and that is the latest version.
i am using Indian variant and having 1st November 2017's security update.
Can anyone drop the link to download august build stock rom for xt1686
Hello, thanks for the feedback.
5 months without any security update, that's a lot of time.
Mine is on reteu, NPNS25.137-33-11.
Just talked to motorolla on the chat and they said that don't know when the next security patch will be available. For a phone that has release last year on February, the support/updates should be more active. A little bit disappointed with that.

No need to open the 100th thread about Oreo update. You could have used this one instead:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/how-to/official-moto-g5-8-1-oreo-release-notes-t3804632
The release notes regarding Oreo update
https://support.motorola.com/us/en/solution/ms130856
are saying the update is coming with Oreo and with the June security patch for Oreo, not for Nougat. As the soak tests haven't even started it is not expected that Oreo comes to our device before August.
Sent from my Moto G5 Plus using XDA Labs
Received June security patch in RETIN today...no oreo..only security patch
This update better fix the battery drainage issue

In the release notes of Motorola it says Oreo and June security patch which probably means the security patch for Oreo, not for Nougat.

I am not sure if the soak test even started. So this was expected.
The Oreo will probably come somewhere in the next 2 months.
Gobsmacked, UK has got June update on retgb, normally 3 month's behind reteu.
Motorola must be starting to get their act together, yippee :good:

Yeah, the roll-out started Monday when most people got it.
Hay guys!
I am glad to report that today I received the update OPSS28.65-36-6 via OTA.
Around 75MB, it's just a patch.
December 1, 2018
Android 8.1.0
I live in Argentina and my baseband is RETAR.
What phone do you have? The G5+ is on the OPSS25.85 series. I think G5S is on the series you have posted.
Well, i received December security update today, but my phone is RETBR so is probably why my version number is different, here some screenshots.

Thanks for posting those screenshots. You're definitely on the right builds for Potter. I guess we can start expecting further rollouts of the December patch soon.
T-mobile is making me kinda nervous about their updates. Everyone seems to have released theirs already. Has anyone heard anything whether t mobile is skipping July updates or just super late to the party?
July? Everyone else is finally getting the June update, but theirs incorporates some camera addons. Tmobile had the June update out a few weeks ago, but it was before the camera addons.

hmm I got my ASF7 update on June 28th, it's been over a month now. So ur telling me tmobile is ahead and don't expect anything this month?
It wouldn't surprise me if they push an update for the extra bits, but I'd shoot for a 50/50 shot since they're not "life or death" features, sadly.

So would it be safe to just odin flash the Sprint ASG8 4gb files?
Will I have to factory reset?
Would I have to flash back to tmobile firmware later for OTAs?
You have to flash back for tmobile ota, that sprint update (ASG8) is the sprint june security patch and night mode camera, it's not the July security patch if that's what your looking for.
Just flash the AT&T firmware if it allows OTA updates. I am on AT&T and have had the June update since the last week of June or the first week of July I can't remember which.

Do not think ASF7 had the Camera Night Mode. Did not on my ATT.
Looks like ASGB is the Ota for July for Verizon and ASGC is the Ota for July for T-mobile. Should be available soon.....
