I am trying to run some fastboot commands for i9500.
"fastboot devices" can not detect Galaxy s4 i9500 from Ubuntu and Windows 7.
Can somebody help me to run fastboot commands for i9500 either from windows or from Ubuntu?
In my case, I tried Google usb drivers and samsung usb drivers also.
ADB is working, "adb devices" is showing my device.but "fastboot devices" nothing detected.
I am on stock rom and usb debugging is on.
May be I am doing something wrong , that I can not point out.
Please help...
I was just informed the other day the galaxy s4 ge (google edition) only has fastboot and my understanding i9500 and i9505 do not have fastboot.
I'm still new to samsung devices so I oppologize if im wrong.

Fastboot doesn`t work on the I9500/9505, Samsung uses downloadmode to flash roms.

Thank you for your reply...
I was actually trying to test this fastboot command....
"fastboot boot <path to kernel image from computer>"
My Idea was... to test any other kernel without actually flashing it in device, we may use this fastboot command.
It will boot from the kernel image from PC just for 1 time for testing purpose.
Is it so ? I am not sure.
As you said, "Fastboot doesn`t work on the I9500/9505" , So the only way is to flash kernel using Odin (in download mode) or Flash by CWM script / zip (in recovery mode) ?
Please confirm this ...

If you want to flash this kernel, put the kernel img file in android-sdk/platform-tools and type in cmd: fastboot flash boot (name of the kernel).img. But as said this will not work on the i9500/i9505.

Rephrasing the original (old) question
Hi, I would like to refresh this old thread. To repeat the original OP's question in a concise form: Is it possible to boot into a recovery mode using a custom img file without firstly flashing it onto Galaxy S4 i9500/i9005/i9506 device? I am looking for any alternative of fastboot boot recovery.img.
Thanks in advance!
No, it's not possible. As you already know, Samsung doesn't support fastboot commands, and there are no alternatives available. In short, you must use Odin and flash the recovery to the device.
I have a big problem here and I don't have idea of what to do!, I was searching for custom kernels and I found this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2732648, but I did the stupidest thing I've ever done, because this kernel is for a D802 and a have a VS980 :crying: . I was hoping to be able to restore a backup that I made with twrp before I flash that wrong kernel but Now my phone only boot in fastboot mode and it won't entry into recovery :crying: . I tried a lot of things to boot it up but it just get stucked into that ugly fastboot screen. Then I read that I could flash the right boot image from fastboot, but I'ts just impossible to get my phone recognized by my computer, as any time I enter the command "adb devices" nothing but the message "list of devices attached" appears. I have windows 8.1, I have installed the PdaNet drivers, Universal adb drivers, LG page drivers, the samsung drivers that someone tell me wil work, and it just don't recognize the phone! Please help me :crying: :crying:
Sorry for the bad English

Now if I turn it on it only vibrates once. no backlight or any picture. If I press and hold vol- and power buttons together LCD backlight turns on but no display. then it goes off and then again turns on. PC does not detect it. Can anyone help me getting it out from this state?

You need to have adb and fastboot drivers for your phone to correctly get detected.
Here's the LINK FOR QFIL TUTORIAL. You'll need another set of drivers called as the QCOM drivers which are mentioned in the tutorial from the above link.
Hope this helps.
I already have installed the drivers. Still not detected. Even the device manager does not show a device is connected

You should try changing the usb cable you are using. Or maybe that guy in the local repair shop didn't put the sub PCB board back correctly.

Lenovo A6000 doesn't come with a locked bootloader B-l
If you can boot into fastboot then you should flash twrp from it depending on the current android version of the device. If it had been on kitkat flash this TWRP v2.8.6.0 or if it has been updated to lollipop then flash the latest TWRP v3.1.0.
For this you need to first have the fastboot drivers installed and also the minimal adb and fastboot tool. Then place the required TWRP in that folder, better rename the file to 'recovery.img' and then in the CMD window which you open by Shift + Right Click first type
Code:
fastboot devices
To check whether your device is detected by the tool and haa got drivers installed correctly.
Later, if successful, type in
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Then you'll have TWRP recovery installed.
Then flash any ROM on the device using it.

Yeah bro I'm 100% positive. I think unknown command is displayed when you flash the wrong version of recovery.
You can also try
Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img
Sometimes only this works which temporarily boots into the custom recovery.

You've tried booting into Download mode? It requires you to press the VOL UP + POWER KEY, then you need to select the Download mode in it to perform flashing through QPST.
Also, you never mentioned what android version was the device on, earlier.

You need to plug your phone into the computer in download mode after that and using Odin on a PC flash twrp.IMG.tar file for your specific device but make sure to turn off auto reboot in Odin.
Then once the file flashes successfully you need to pull out the battery, put it back in and reboot to recovery before doing anything else. If you reboot the os first then it will delete twrp and revert back to stock recovery so make sure to boot to recovery first

Installing a custom recovery is unlocking your bootloader. It means the same thing.
Here is the latest twrp in .tar format for your device (j5008) https://github.com/Galaxy-MSM8916/releases/releases/tag/TWRP-3.2.3-lineage-15.1_j8_20180921_j5ltechn

fast boot? You mean download mode?
There is no adb commands either this is a Samsung device you vacant unlock your bootloader by adb commands.
To unlock the boot loader download Odin to your PC.
Enable usb debugging and oem unlock in developer options of your phone.
Download twrp for your device from here https://github.com/Galaxy-MSM8916/releases/releases/tag/TWRP-3.2.3-lineage-15.1_j35_20180921_j5xnlte (j510fn)
Put the phone into download mode and connect to PC
Click the AP tab in Odin and find your twrp.zip.tar file.
Disable auto reboot in Odin.
Flash the file.
Pull out the battery
Reboot to recovery before rebooting the os and BANG unlocked bootloader with twrp installed

Hello everyone
at first, sorry for my bad english, i'm german.
My Problem:
I tried to root/flash my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge but everytime after a few minutes, Odin says it failed.
https://puu.sh/yRCwh/e2b7f1b632.png
I tried many tutorials, like that one, but none worked (BTW: It's not my first time rooting smartphones).
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7...overy-official-twrp-hero2lte-3-0-0-0-t3334084
solving approaches (which didn't work):
- restarted computer
- tried different versions of Odin (as admin and compability mode: Windows XP)
- also tried different TWRP/autoroot versions
- used every USB-port of my PC
- (un)check Auto-Reboot in options (Odin)
Can anyone help me, please? :crying:
I don't know what i can do...
Best regards and a happy new year
I think you should root your phone by terminal
Did you unlock the bootloader by fastboot?
Download the ADB Toolbox, unzip to c:\user\yourusername
Run the CMD First.
ENTER fastboot oem unlock-----------------unlock your bootloader
2.Download the twrp image and copy to same fouder with adb toolbox
3.enter fastboot flash recovery xxxxxxxxx.img
4.flash the Supersu by recovery.
My english not good enough too,i am from china mainland!

I tried to unlock the bootloader but everytime I enter this command line "fastboot oem unlock" it's stuck on "< waiting for device >". The device show up in "adb devices" but not in "fastboot devices". I can reboot my device in bootloader ("adb reboot bootloader") but that's it. It seems I can't use any of this "fastboot" - commands.
I reinstalled tool/device driver and tried different ones as well I don't get errors in the device manager. :crying:
@yaro666 what do u mean?
I've had similar problem with Z1.
I solved it by flashing earlier stock Rom with and, then unlocked bootloader.
It was the same issue as yours.
I see PIT in log, can't remember if that's normal or you've checked PIT option in Odin

I tried now to flash with an earlier (17.10.17) and a current (from SamFirm application) Stock Rom (4 File Firmware) but it doesn't work. It failed every time.
I've seen on youtube that there is always a progress bar while flashing, but not for me.
When I click on start there is no progress bar and no colored box (except this 0:[COMX] box) only after a few minutes (that red "FAIL!"-box).
I guess you can't disable the PIT info in the options, so its usual.
Check the deivces or software
