i'm still relatively new to this "having a non modded phone that gets official updates" thing, so the questions i bring up might be stupid
i've been talking to a friend that has the exact same phone that i have (galaxy s7 edge g-935F), his phone is on G935FXXU1APDH whereas mine is still on G935FXXU1APCD
phones aren't carrier locked/branded, exact same model, only difference being he lives in the UK while i live in germany
my firmware is months old too and even worse, according to this site ( http://www.sammobile.com/2016/04/26...-s7-galaxy-tab-3-lite-galaxy-note-5-and-more/ ) i'm supposed to be on a far newer firmware already, yet my phone brings up nothing whenever i manually check for updates (look for Germany (O2)(VIA))
does anyone know what is causing this because if i'll be stuck with the months old firmware, i'd rather root this thing and throw a custom rom on it
update: got sick of waiting and manually ODIN'd a much newer version on it, am now on G935FXXU1APEQ
by the way my battery life is a bit better now
Honestly, we went back to older firmwares for the battery life. Maybe your phone is telling you that might be a good thing for now [emoji23]

i'm missing actual features here like the camera's shape correction which i'd love to have because this camera's image distortion is really stupid
You could always just download the latest firmware and update the phone yourself via odin.

nope, still as stuck on APCD as ever
honestly by this point, if you're feeling lucky, you might as well just look into ODINing an update onto your phone by yourself
I am sticking to the APCD version now for 9 months or so. Did any of you with the same problem get an update in the meantime? If not, what would be the correct rom to be flashed?
I'm still on g935fxxu1bpjg UK unbranded!
Samsung is busy with S8 so please wait for one year...

Absolutely no interest in Marshmallow unless we finally get a bootloader unlock for the TWN variant.
Absolutely love my G4, but I have no respect for their decision to simply ignore the wishes of developers/people who want to use their phone how THEY want.
Poor form LG, poor form indeed.
Weirdly it was there Last night on my netbook but it refused to Work as it didn't have enough ram available. Today on Work computer it said no update available! Looks like they pulled it again
And when I tried again just there now again it's gone! Update withdrawn: AGAIN!
is there any KDZ available that we could flash using LGUP?

Same! I absolutely love my G4 but bcoz of this ridiculous decision of theirs I will never buy another one and will steer everyone I know away from them. The way they are carrying on you would think they were worried everyone in the world wants to unlock their bootloaders but it's only enthusiasts and devs, the very people they should be making happy as it's us that spreads word of mouth recommendations. Which is the best form of marketing. I updated to MM bcoz I've totally lost faith in LG and got sick of waiting for either them to have a change of heart or devs to come up with a solution (which LG will probably try and thwart). I'm joining the Nexus army!
i see the update available in mac versions of lg bridge but not the pc version. it goes through the whole download process and then the update fails on two separate macs. pretty frustrating.

Man don't even bother flashing marshmallow onto your phone. It's not what you think it is. I did flash using LGUP and what a mistake it was too flash the marshmallow kdz. You only get half the screen on time compared to lollipop. So hold of until they sort the issues out

Thank you for your advice.
It's much more smoother and no bugs that I encounter so far, a few days needed for doze mode to kick in. I highly recommend it, you won't regret.
I do think if they pulled it (or aren't ready to release and someone accidentally pushed it out prematurely) then it's for a reason. If they have it ready then why would they hold it back? I'll let them continue to bug test and i'll get it when ready. Lollipop is still fairly new and without better battery life I don't see the point of marshmallow at this point.

Hey Guys.
So I'm about to get a new S7 Edge from T-mobile tonight.
I understand there are several roms out there for different versions of the device, am I right?
Is there anyway I could get rid of the official T-mobile rom and install instead the official/international Samsung one, something without all the garbage of the carrier and that will be future update directly by Samsung?
Will appreciate any lead
Thanks Guys!
No root. No firmware. No fun for anyone. This is the new korean samsung. All that's missing is a high Hitler, and your set
I'm coming from the Nexus world, so I'm sorry in case I'm mixing between the definitions here.
I case I'm not looking to root, just load another system img on the device, instead of the crappy t-mobile one.
No way to do it right now?
Thanks again man.

No. Even with root, Samsung was never one to allow other firmwares on different models. If they existed, they were outliers and not the norm.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-s7-edge/how-to/best-to-root-how-to-screw-stock-s-t3394517
This is a very good guide to getting a more unbranded feel.
I would add that you can change your screen dpi through ADB (though the stock camera won't be full screen afterwards).
The US S7s are a special breed of S7s relative to the rest of the world, using Qualcomm rather than in-house chips and not having a bootloader unlock solution.
It might be possible to do more debranding (in the sprint S7E forum, they found a debrand function that may or may not work on t-mobile S7s to take off carrier customizations) but, assuming you are using t-mobile, you're better off using the package disabler than risk losing volte/video calls/wifi calling (the only reason to bother with a t-mobile S7 over international).

They are ODIN'ing different versions of the 935F firmware internationally to get Samsung Pay and other apps, but they have a different processor - so you would brick your device if you tried. You might be able to use US AT&T formware, but cannot see any reason to try.
There are also custom ROMs out for the 935F - but you have to be rooted to flash them, which is not possible hereon the 935T yet and my never be the way things are (not) going.
Got you all, thank you guys for the response!
For now, I disabled all Samsung and Tmo useless apps, and installed Google Now Launcher instead of Touch Wize.
Hopefully these steps will do the job for now.
Thanks again!
Nowadays phones don't need root they work very well out of the box. I understand the need for it (custom roms, etc...) but I haven't rooted a personal phone of mine in a while. Just disable what you don't wanna use and enjoy the phone.

Hi everyone,
AT&T has just released Nougat onto their Samsung Galaxy s7 and s7 edge phones. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there was a root available for this phone (Samsung SM-G935A) on nougat.
Thank you.
Quick answer: NO
- Bootloader still locked
- Leaked Engineer Kernel not working for Nougat
- Exploit not discovered yet
Fantastic
That's the reply I thought that I would get. I wonder how long it's going to be before anyone creates a root.

Yeah, that sucks. So does this phone. I can't believe I bought a phone made of all glass, that gets so hot it cracks so easily.
Even bought an expensive case for it. But doesn't matter, cause when it's cold out (Michigan winters), there is no stopping it.

I agree its not good to hear, since the release of the S8 is about a month off, this device will be forgotten as the others have once the " next best thing" comes out. Ive been on here since the windows mobile days, and ive noticed this trend since android started to take a foothold, once a new device comes out the older ones are neglected and fall into silent obscurity.

Ya as above stated the kernel doesn't work gets stuck in a boot loop, its the same kernel from marshmallow tried a few times its freaking dumb. I regret buying this phone I mean the locked boot loader is b.s. period had I known that there was no way to unlock it I would of waited for the one plus 3t
Hello all.
Just picked up a shiny unlocked galaxy s8. I'm trying to find the official firmware to download to use via Odin. It's basically a soft brick at this point. Odin can see it, but it tells me (on a normal boot) "this phone has been flashed with unofficial software and is locked. Call your mobile operator for additional support". The guy I bought it from is a friend and says he bought it from a buddy and thought he could fix it. Like I said Odin can see it in download mode, I just need pointed in the right direction for the official firmware so I can flash it to be usable again. Thanks!!
Just go to SamMobile Firmware, search for your Phone Model, then download the available firmware. Flash it via Odin.

Maybe you should redownload everything again. Sammobile works but sometimes it ****s up the download.
Updato has most of the firmware as well and good download speeds and free w/o requiring a sign up/login.

OK...well crap. Smart Switch couldnt recognize it. Finally after further inspection it turns out the guy sold me a live demo unit (LDU).
Probably why I'm having so much trouble. Is there anything I can do? It's not stolen I paid for it (to the individual at least).
The model number on the back reads SM-G950XU
This was like the previous thread that was closed recently. Just give it back to the one who sold it to you and do not tell us that you got it from a random person like why would you buy a soft bricked phone to a stranger. It can even be a clone or has issues as you cannot test it.

I'm not like the guy from the other thread. I've brought many, many phones back to life. Been active here for quite some time. I saw recovery mode and download mode was functional, Odin could see it, my eyes arent the best so i didnt see the microscopic "live demo unit" written on the back. I simply traded an iphone for it and was taking a chance on my flashing skills to bring it back to life, hoping I'd score a nice new S8. I may try to contact him and get my phone back if he's honest. If not, do I have a paperweight? Can it even get demo unit software flashed to it?

I'm looking to buy an s8 phone. The active seems really nice to me as I hate the regular s8 display and prefer the flat display of the active. My Question is whether or not I can root the active using the regular s8 method. There seems to be very little info about this phone unless I'm just not looking in the right place. I'm not really sure how similar these phones are on the hardware and software side.
Honestly, the S8 active is the first phone I've had that I haven't really felt a NEED to root. Theming is there, (specialized substratum version for Samsung), can be mostly debloated via adb, battery life is amazing out of the box. There is a thread for some small mods to remove things like the carrier label in the status bar add well.
But, like you've said, there isn't a lot of info on it in the regular S8 forums. I've wondered the same things, but haven't found d any definitive answers yet. Hardware wise, I belive they are nearly identical, aside from the display being flat and not curved. No curved screen, so the screen edge specific apps and functions aren't there either. Battery has a higher capacity, 4000mah opposed to 3000mah for regular s8, I get average of 9hr SoT with average use.
The hardware is identical inside unless you count the screen, of which I prefer the Active's screen personally. I got mine a week ago and love it. It's rugged without looking like a tank I've managed to knock it off my work table twice already to a cement floor which is about 3 feet with not a single mark left on it.
The huge battery is great and lasts more than a full day with constant usage(music/reddit/games) which is a big plus.
I would like to see the dev community pick it up but like rjyoung00 said, you almost don't even need to root the thing.
there are plenty of software reasons to root despite the hardware being great. Im in the same boat as OP, I got the S6 active day one expecting a root since the S6 had one but it was released with an update that made it unrootable. Now I don't want to be in the same boat
galaxy s8 active has almost perfect hardware and absolutely awful software, (Samsung stop already put your trashy software from your devs with broken hands, why the f... is it so hard to put AOSP with root at least as an option !! )
I cannot live without unlocked bootloader, root, AOSP, xposed. This is the major reason I am still using my Nexus 6.
Really hope that devs will find the way to get all necessary software otherwise this beautiful phone is dead.
My question is can you flash the unlocked firmware on it like the others. Would love to know if anyone would try. I'd like to use it on vzw.

I don't think it's possible to brick using odin, and locked bootloader. If it goes wrong, just flash original firmware, to get going again. But don't trust me. Do some research. And best not to try without having original firmware.

Youre right, I said that the g950u files wouldn't successfully flash on the g892a, which was the original question.
Also, someone else suggested not trying it until the g892a files were available. So I mentioned that I bought those files and made them available.
