Which Application For Backup? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hi,
For a non-rooted device, which backup application should I use? I would like to have a backup of my applications and its their data.
I couldn't get Helium to work because of the desktop password error.
Anymore suggestions?

If you decide to root your phone use Titanium Backup which is at the playstore..
If you don't want to root than use "My Backup" (free playstore app)
After using My Backup if you want the paid version you can get that at
the playstore too. Here is the link for the free version of My Backup:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rerware.android.MyBackup
Good luck,
Have a great day!

Hi, My Backup needs root to backup data. I don't want to root my SGS7E just yet.

The only app that can backup data from a non-rooted phone is Helium backup, IF you can get it to work. I haven't been able to get it to work reliably on the GS7 Edge. In fact, I only got it to work once, and have had no success at all, since.

Sorry, I thought you simply wanted to backup all your apps.
I really doubt there are any backup apps which backup data without root,
although I have been known to be wrong a couple times in the past. lol
Good luck,

[Q] Backing up apps + data.

Hi everyone,
I know there is a lot of backup apps but I've not found one that physically backs up the app and then restores it (re-installs) after installing a new rom.
Can anyone suggest an app that will do this?

You can use Titanium Backup for when you are rooted and Carbon for when you are not rooted or you do have root. Both are good but Carbon doesn`t require root.
Btw i would only backup user apps and data and no system apps.
I have titanium backup, but last time it didn't actually backup the installed apps only the data. Is that the case still? Or will I have to go ahead and re-download all the apps?

Usualy it also backs up user data as well as the apps. Maybe you chose the wrong backup option?
adb backup is always there, thats google own integrated backup agent inside your nexus. trigger it via shell or nexus toolkit.
i've tried carbon though and im blown away.

why wouldn't you back up system apps?
Because they cause problems most of the time if you restore them on another rom or after upgrading a rom.

Best backup app without root?

Just a quick question... I want to hard reset and then flash the new firmware, what's the best backup app?
I especially dont want to lose whatsapp stuff (logs and pictures) and the sms (and of course all the apps installed).
Is there a way to do so without root? Thanks in advance.
It seems you are asking for the impossible.
The apps needed for those backups needs Root Access esp. for the case of Titanium Backup

Well, for instance...
Whatsapp does a backup of the logs on the internal memory, so is it possible to copy these files on the sdcard, wipe, and then copy back to internal? Does that work?
The phone settings and apps, if im not mistaken, are also saved on the gmail account.
And the sms... kies (which sucks) does backup them.
So it shouldnt be impossible for an app to do what i just said... or am i wrong?
Thanks.
Doesn't carbon work without root?

Try Superbackup application. It can take backup of your applications & message. Just check.

I believe 'MyBackup' works without root

backup question

My phone is stock and will not be rooted. I read the titanium is the best backup method but I need root access. All I want is to backup my game aps. What would be the best way and would like to store a copy on my computer.

Try this out, Helium - App Sync and Backup: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup&hl=en
I paid for TiBu a long time ago so haven't had interest in other solutions. This app is made by the same guy that did Rom Manager.
I have used MyBackUp Pro for a long time. Even if rooted. Been solid for many years. Still use TiBu backup though as main backup on rooted phones--

[Q] Option to backup and restore unrooted Note 3

Hi,
Can anyone suggest a simple way to backup and restore while resetting the device?
I had to wipe the date on the phone and reset it, but lost several stuff including Nova settings, installed apps via apks from unknown sources, etc.
Any good app which simplifies the backup and restore option? Tried Mybackup pro and Helium before, but not good.
I do not want to root the phone to use Titanium backup though.
Have you tried backing up the device with the back up feature available in the settings?

I did, although the backup was a month ago. When I reset, i could not backup as I lost my AVG password so had to reset using the buttons. Restored it using the backup feature but like I said above most of the features were gone! For example, my nova settings, etc

I have tried many apps but they are not stable enough, try this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jiubang.go.backup.ex
The problem for most apps is they need root access to put back settings and so forth... Unfortunately there is a limit to what most apps can do to an unrooted phone...

How do you guys back up your apps+data if you are not rooted?

Ive used helium before but a fair few apps backups were corrupted. I want to do a factory reset but cant since I'll lose all my apps and their data.
Try Helium! U need to install a pc software though. Go to Helium app in play store and read the instructions

Try "Mybackup" from the android play store, here is the link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rerware.android.MyBackup&hl=en
For most of it's features it does not require root.
And it does not require a computer.
Good luck!
Helium.

It says that to backup app data it needs root.
You can try Samsung Kies built-in backup feature. Though I had problems with restoring app data, maybe I did something wrong..
