I noticed this when I updated to PB1 but it wasn't an inconvenience until the marshmallow update. According to a few different root checker apps I still have root. Any ideas why this could be?
Thanks!

Just figured out how to unroot 4.2.2 by updating to 4.3 MK2.
I am interested in updating to 4.4.2. I understand that I won't be able to root once i update OTA.
how else can I update to 4.4.2 once I root. I think I would like to root 4.3 first.

If you want to update to 4.4.2, then you must be on stock firmware with no root. You will be stuck with all the bloatware from Samsung & carrier until a root exploit is realized. Check the mk2 all in one guide. It has everything you need to do this. Good luck & remember to thank the op in the threads!
I rooted my GS4 a month back using the downgrade to NB1 method. The only issue was the Wi-Fi toggle button that I remedy through the nb1wififix (are there any new permanent fixes for this?) Aside from this probably being fixed by using Towelroot on NC1, what functionalists/fixes would restoring and rooting a fresh NC1 grant me in comparison to my current NB1 root?

Absolutely nothing. The WiFi issues was just with running 4.3 on the 4.4.2 bootloader because it didn't take the kernel modules without the WiFi fix. That still persists if you run 4.3 after towelroot, and really nothing else is different. Root is root, towelroot is just all at once and simpler.

Hi Cat,
Sorry, this will be off topic, but I noticed you have an s5 running the latest Android build (KTU84P.G900VVRU1ANI2) and are still rooted. So I'm assuming that the new OTA for this won't break root? (I'm on a Rooted Verizon S5, running 4.4.2, Build #KOT49H.G900VVRU1ANCG, Hardware Version G900V.05, Kernel Version 3.4.0, Rooted via Towelroot)
Is that true, or did you have to root somehow after upgrading to 4.4.4 in the latest build?
Thanks for your answer.

Allowing the NI2 OTA update will cause you to lose root access. To regain root access after the OTA update, you need to (1) use ODIN to install the NCG kernel, (2) run TowelRoot to gain root access again, and (3) use ODIN to install the NI2 kernel. You can download the NCG and NI2 kernels using links in THIS POST. If you already had SuperSU installed before the OTA update, just run it and acknowledge the error message, and then reboot; SuperSU will fix itself. Otherwise, install SuperSU.

Hi I'm new to this and I have a few questions before doing this. I am have the KTU84P.G900VVRU1ANI2 Build number and I have never rooted my phone before. Will this method still work even though I never previously rooted? Also what are the chances of me bricking my device?
After doing this procedure should I then freeze the OTA update service?
So currently my phone im running a fully stock and locked SM-G900V w/MM PF4.
I know I can downgrade to root I was just wondering if it would be easier to:
Downgrade to:4.4.2• G900VVRU1ANCG
Build date :Mon, 31 Mar 2014 04:28:02
NEXT
Make it Rain with Towleroot
THEN
Then flash back to:6.0.1• G900VVRU2DPD1
Build date: Wed, 11 May 2016 07:04:50
And if doing it this way will I still have root and be able to take the PF4 Update?
Any and all help would be amazing.
So mad when my kid updated my phone to find out the next day I could have rooted before hand.
P.S. All roms listed will be stock directly from SamMobile
PF4 update
I acctualy found this link to update to the PF4 update after gaining root.

You can't downgrade from mm to kk. Try the other stickied "how to root" thread.

I have a rooted Samsung Galaxy S7 on marshmallow PI3 and just got notification of an OTA update, which I assume is for Nougat. I thought I wouldn't get an OTA while rooted, but haven't attempted to download. Please confirm that I will need to un-root my device to get the update.

Even if the update does download, the update will most likely fail during the checking process. Your best bet is to flash Nougat with Odin, then re-root using the Nougat root kernel.

There's not a problem flashing Nougat on a rooted phone?

No, because the act of flashing through odin pretty much negates all that. You just have to root again and follow the guides to speed the system back up or go without root and choose an option like the debloat rom with near stock experience.
