(Q) remove sim lock? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone been able to remove the sim lock on thier 6P? Ordered a code (which I'm getting my money back for) but it didn't work.
Any help? Based in the UK. Locked to EE have to wait for 6 months before EE would unlock it. Anyone know any other way?
Cheers

nexus is sim unlocked

EE ones are locked, mine was when I first got it. @OP, I looked into it for a couple of weeks then stumped up for a code, tried to do it through EE first and they said it wasn't one of their phones despite me having bought it from an EE shop, so I used the first one that came up on a Google search. Took a couple of days longer than expected, but worked perfectly.

Cheers mate, I've been down the same route. They said the same to me, reason being is that you have to have the phone for more than 6 months before they'll give you a code, in the meantime it'll simply fail.
That's why they say that it's not from them, because on searching for a code it appears that way.
Nice one though, I'll go back to EE and see what they say then I'll start on the net.

This may already be common knowledge, whilst playing about with my 3uk s3 in preparation for using a dual sim adapter on it, I discovered it was network unlocked from new, nice suprise as I was looking at paying £15 plus to get an unlock code for it

Where did you purchse your phone and is there any 3 branding on it?
If you bought it from somewhere like Phones4u it will be unlocked and accept your 3 sim because most of the phones they supply are unlocked.
If you bought from a 3 phone shop and it has 3 branding on it , then it will be locked to 3 network.
there is a simple unlock method floating about which i used to unlock mine

I per ordered my blue handset from 3 and got it quite early on. It's unlocked and un branded I think the first few batches they sent out were straight from Samsung and they had no time to change them to the 3 branded software what with the delays.
I don't know this for certain but it's my two pence.

[Q] Sim unlock?

So my severe lack of patience got the better of me and I ended up buying a nexus 4 on pay from O2 today however my contract is with Three. I highly doubt it but is there any free way to sim unlock it right now, without going through one of those online unlock websites?
Thanks for any help,
Josh
It should come unlocked?
Heard this from multiple people who also bought one from O2 - apparently it is ALREADY unlocked even though you've been assured by O2 that it is locked to their network. Just try inserting a SIM from another network to verify.
I bought it today from o2 and works fine with my 3 contract

Thanks for the quick reply guys, I took it to one of the shops in town straight away to get it unlocked and after about 40 minutes of waiting, he couldn't get an unlock code for it so just out of curiosity he tried a Vodafone sim in it and it worked fine with it and he was able to make a call. From this, I too assumed that it was already unlocked but when I try my Three sim in it, it won't find the network :/ and the sim is definitely working because when I replace it in my temporary phone, it works fine. I also then found out that O2 and Vodafone have linked networks, so I assumed that's why it worked on the Vodafone sim but not my three one, pretty damn confused haha

Hmm that's interesting, and only adds to the confusion :/
Right, so my replacement three sim has just become active (needed a micro sim instead of my normal sim) and it still wont work in my N4, but does work in my spare phone. No idea what's going on.
Never mind, it's decided to work now, thanks for the info.

o2 (UK) Carrier locked?

Bit the bullet and ordered online from o2 UK on pay & go for £399
Just wondering if anyone knows if these are carrier locked to o2?
If so is it pretty easy to unlock them? Just a case of flashing a stock Android on there?

2ND That - Using mine now with Virgin sim in - Not a naughty O2 sim
Mine is simfree as well bought from o2 shop in trafford centre.
Using T-Mobile sim in mine.
I can confirm also. The o2 staff are adamant it is locked tho.
I went to local voda shop and they gave me a micro sim foc there and then which saved me having to cut it down
I went to o2 knowing full well it was unlocked and let them tell me 4 times that I would only be able to use an o2 sim because it's locked to their network. I just went along with them Lol.

I'm on Vodafone contract. I just went to the website and chatted to the support guy over the vodafone instant messaging thingy and asked for a microsim. They sent it and I can just activate any time I want online and it will magically move my phone number onto it.
They should give you a microsim if you ask, after all it costs them maybe 10pence to keep a customer happy.

PAYG Razr i from Three in the UK

Hi
I've just received one of the Razr I phones on offer from Three UK for £149 + £10 topup ordered online. People might like to know that the phone I received is an unbranded UK Retail model with 4.1.2 and UNLOCKED. I've tried it with Virgin, T-Mobile & Tesco SIMs and it works fine. Very pleased so far.
Cheers - Andy

Hi,
are you totally sure that ALL of the Three PAYG Motorola Razr i-s can NOT be unlocked considering their bootloader? Why?
I plan to purchase one, but I knew nothing about this... Would I miss anything important if it remains locked?

I've only found one mostly with older posts: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32576654 I think this not the one you mentioned.
I have just unlocked my locked bootloader, having bought the phone like the op from 3.
The fault with generating the unlock code was with Moto.
Now mine is unlocked, rooted and CWM installed.

Yep, I received mine yesterday and the label on the Box and About Phone page shows it to be a normal UK Retail version and mine definitely wasn't SIM locked as in OP. I'm currently using a Tesco (O2) PAYG SIM to use remaining credit before porting to 3. I've also tested with T-Mobile & Virgin and it works fine.

Thanks guys for the helpful (and fortunately positive) replies. Now I'm brave enough to turn the question by 180°:
is there anybody, whose device that has been bought from Three (especially Pay As You Go) was SIM-locked?
(I hope the thread's intensity becomes weaker).
funny enough yes. i bought one for my mrs today and after commenting only a few hours ago i thought i should try. so i put a giffgaff sim in it and it asked for unlock code??????
so i tryed with a EE sim and asked same again.
then i put the 3 sim back in got it all set up with google sync and apps etc and tryed again wigh sims and hey presto it worked????????
whats that all about?

I must've missed out on that as they're showing as £249.99 now. Shame really as I'm thinking about moving from GG to Three.
Instead I've picked up one from the Orange ebay store (£169.99 with £20 credit included). Seems like unlock codes can be picked up cheaply enough too - here's hoping the Orange branding isn't overboard.

Hi, I had to do the same, because my UK contact was late by one day (she could go for the phone on 1st Aug 2013, offer ended at 31st July...), so I've ordered from Play.com with free Pillips BT speaker (http://www.play.com/stores/ChitterChatter/listing/828995144). +10Ł & Locked, but still satisfactory offer. When do you get yours? I've never thought of Orange branding... can it be disturbing?
And from where do you buy trustworthy unlock code? I'll need sth like that, too!
I bought mine from the "official" Orange UK eBay store - which is run by ChitterChatter, the same company in your play.com link. I'm hoping it gets delivered at some point this week.
There's quite a few sellers advertising an XT890 unlock on ebay for less than £10, so it seems pretty straight forward to get the handset unlocked.
Looking into people who bought the RAZR i last time Orange sold them for this price, the handsets themselves don't have any Orange branding. Usually, Orange really go over the top with their branding so it's nice to know these won't have that problem.
Three raised there price to £249.99 a day after I bought mine for £149.99 :') guess I was lucku

T-Mobile (USA) Carrier Lock

I got an S10+ as a gift. I asked T-Mobile support to unlock it and they said no problem and that it would take 72 hours.
Well it's been over a week and I've been back and forth with support trying everything up to and including a factory reset all with no luck. They're now saying that they've "exhausted their efforts" and that *some phones can't be unlocked".
I've never experienced this with support before and am not sure what to do next. I'm pretty sure Samsung is just going to refer me back to the carrier if I try them. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

If it is a Tmobile branded phone version then it is locked. Tmobile can unlock it as long as your account is 3+ month old and in good standing I think.

Again, their support said they entered it in the system to unlock and it's not working so I don't know what to do next. It's a weird position to be in.
It's my understanding that they used to unlock with an app, but that now it's built into the firmware? In any case, can't get it to work and they have literally said there's nothing else they can do which is really strange.

If the person that gifted it to you got it from T-mobile store then it would be quick, but if they got it from elsewhere, T-mobile always has trouble finding that order and IMEI and takes forever to actually unlock it.

Try with a non T-mobile SIM and if it is still locked, take it to the T-mobile store and have them call customer service to unlock. This way the store representative can let them know it is in fact locked.

Having the same issue with TMobile always get my phones unlocked via Twitter s8, note8, s9, note 9, onplus 6t all on JOD one thing they all had in common was the unlock app with the new S10 they having build in into the system and I have spend 1 month trying to unlock it even have gotten the phone replaced thinking it was defective , T-Mobile chat has said multiple times they did a override to unlock and still nothing I feel like there is an issue with the new build in unlock process vs the unlock app
Do we know if we can use a code to unlock the phone with different firmware? Are we stuck using T-Mobile's unlock protocol/app?

I traded in the S10+ to the LG g8 just to make sure is the phone since the LG still has the unlock app I'll test and see
Edit: asked TMobile via Twitter for the unlock and when through the app , pressed permanent unlock and walla
I was able to successfully unlock my phone through T-Mobile on twitter. They just need your IMEI and will whitelist it. There is no unlock app anymore. I did have to chat with another rep however because the first rep that tried to help me did something wrong on their end and they tried to tell me to use the unlock app which the S10's don't have.
Locking a device with zero EIP balance should be illegal.
I went through this when I bought a 128GB S6 Edge outright. The phone was paid in full at the store yet they wanted me to wait 40 days to unlock it. I tried 3rd party unlockers and they said they couldn't unlock it. (all attempts with codes failed)
It was a real cluster-f.
I just buy my phones from ebay now. No carrier junk or branding and none of this nonsense either. Paypal is great if a seller tries to jerk you around. Fortunately I haven't had any problems.

Yeah their training is clearly a little behind, but I went through their escalations team and everything and they literally said the had "exhausted all efforts" and added that "some phones can't be unlocked". How crazy is that?
So my current question is... are there still third party unlocks possible?
