Battery Drain - Zuk Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys, i just got this phone 2 days back. i should really mention that its an wonderful device, great display, fluid usage, everything is quite fine except battery. The very first night i had left my phone for rest by switching off WiFi and Data connection with more than 35%, next morning i was in surprise, phone was not turning on at all, then after charging it for few min it booted back with 5% charging. the same thing happened last night as well, i had purposefully charger it to more than 40% and wholla in the morning it was just 5% remaining.
i'm on stock COS rom with no changes.
So you good people, i really ask u to help me,
Is it happening with other phones as well?
should i get a replacement as i still have return period?
Thanks in advance

Nope. Mine is perfect. What have you tried to find the cause for battery drain? ??

Thanks for your time.
May i know whats battery drop in idle mode, probably over night in your phone?
i have only installed only Whatsapp as of now and no other apps apart from the stock ones. when i check battery info everything seems to be okay with the apps apart from the constant battery decline in the graph.
I have reset my phone and trying to identify the cause of the battery drain.
please do share if you have any apps or tips to identify the cause.
Thanks again

Updated from 2.2 to 2.2.1 now have Battery Issues :(

Hi all,
Basically a few days ago I updated the firmware via Kies from 2.2 to 2.2.1 on my Galaxy S. However, I instantly noticed a huge decrease in battery life - 50% gone overnight when in standby! So I factory reset the phone and had everything disabled - the phone only lost 10% in 24 hours. So I decided to try and eliminate the possible causes so first I turned on wifi and within 2 hours I have lost almost 30% of the battery life with no usage so wifi seems to be the culprit
In the wifi menu network notification is off, however, the device seems to be scanning for networks every 5-10 seconds even when connected! I had no problems like this on 2.2 where I could comfortably get 2 days usage with wifi on. Also as I would prefer wifi to be on constantly when connected I would prefer not to change the wifi sleep policy. Any suggestions would be much appreciated
Many thanks, and sorry if there's similar thread already
which version of 2.2 did you have before?
try a flash back and see what happens.
Or try to drain battery (do not charge till 1% or almost dead) then full charge it.
Always happen to me when I flash my phone to a new ROM.
Thanks for the replies. I've tried leaving the battery till it was almost drained but maybe I'll let it go completely flat and charge it see if that makes a difference?
Also trying juice defender from the market to see if that helps. Not sure if it is a problem with the firmware though been looking around and a few people seem to have had the problem with no real solution
Might have to go back to 2.2 but would prefer not to as I've noticed a big decrease in lag on 2.2.1. Also can't remember what version of 2.2 I had I'll see how the battery life goes over the next few days after trying a couple of drain/charging cycles hopefully won't have to downgrade it. Come on 2.3.2
Thanks for the replies so far
Battery Bug is Major issue with all the versions of 2.2.1, Battery life is very bad. Even the Browser is worst in 2.2.1. May be in 2.3 it will get fixed.
I have tested all the new releases of 2.2.1. I found its smooth and fast.

Very very bad idea to let the battery go completly flat, it's the best way to damage it and even lose 20% of his initial capacity. Never go under 10%.
To calibrate it properly, wait 10% turn off the phone, fully charge it, restart. (do it again 3 times).

The battery is calibrated to do this already, the charging circuit will not allow power to the device unless there is a certain amount of charge in the battery. It's there to protect the battery from this exact eventuality.

Horrible battery life

My Huawei has a horrible battery life. I'm using stock rom (rooted of course) and the battery drains really fast, like 5-10% an hour even in sleep mode. I have used a battery calibration app recommended by someone here in xda, but I don't think it made any difference. My last Android phone used around 1% an hour, even with data and sync on, but with pretty much the same settings, I can hardly make it through the day with my Huawei.
So, what to do? I don't need the battery to last for days, but having to recharge twice a day at worst is just too much.
My battery drops around 7-10% overnight.
Probably a defective cell?
mine after i installed custom rom (b160) and a battery calibartion in flight mode during my sleep after 7 hours that passed and woke up it was 1% dropped and now 7 almost hours afterwards in normal mode it has dropped 7% with very light use of course...
i want to say just that with gsm active it drained 5% more than in flight mode...
so something must be going wrong , like you don't have a good signal and it uses much power to keep your connection alive and have better signal....
i must say that i have a profile with setcpu when the screen is off with min 122 and max 460...
and just for the record i think that with custom rom also mine was dropping more...
i don't know why although...

Noticed this myself. i use spotify alot on the phone, walking, bicycling, at the gym. and it drains a whole lot of power even in offline mode. but if i set it in flight mode the phone last for hours and hours without even dropping 5-10% of power. but when gsm or data traffic is on the battery life just drains out so quickly! so it is definitly something serously wrong in this rom. Im hoping gingerbread is coming soon to this phone, so maybe all these small issues has been fixed.
I've found highly variable battery life. Sometimes it's awful, almost 50% overnight when it's sleeping on my nightstand, other times it's much better and only drops 7-10% under those conditions.
One thing is Google Maps, even when not in use it seems to suck battery like crazy if it's loaded (and it has a habit of getting loaded even when you don't run it or any apps that use it). There's a long thread on this in the Google support forums, but no sign of a fix from Google yet.
I've found doing a 'force stop' on Maps if it's running often helps, another thing is to reboot the phone after you charge it, that seems to fix it for several days sometimes, but then it starts sucking juice again for no apparent reason, so I tend to reboot it after each recharge. There can also be other apps that due to bugs can suck battery, for a while there app killer did this but the author put a fix out pretty quick and it shouldn't be an issue now.
Just noticed that there's an Android update from Huawei now available for download, maybe that'll fix some of the irritations and help with battery life; I'm off to install it!
where can you find that update? through phone's settings->check for update (in my case it says i got the latest version) or online?
My phone has been on for nearly 48 hours.. charging it right now. I played, connected to wifi, browsed the net, facebook, gmail etc.. and I really played hard on it for a few hours.
30mins ago it switched off, dead battery.. I'm quite pleased with the battery life

Exactly the same problem here. I formatted now both the internal and external SD card, let's see if that helps.
edit: No it doesn't. The problem seems to be that my phone doesn't sleep properly. I charged it to full, then turned the screen off for one hour. App called Spart Parts shows that since last unplugged, time spent without sleeping is 36m.
it took mine 2 weeks to get to the full battery life. now i get 36-48 hours from it.

After 5 weeks i get about 12hrs. No GPS, no 3G. About 10min ago i took the charging cable off. Now Battery History in Spare Parts show that "Since last unplugged" time spent without sleeping is 10m 33s (99.9998%), and time spent with screen on is 3m 23s.
im thinking of buying this phone is it available in India ? also can this device be rooted n what about the custom roms ? are they available as there is nthng on XDA :'( . And what about its battery life even being 1500mah is it so awful ?

Now after factory reset it seems that this is fixed. Over night with Wi-Fi and all sync's enabled, it took about 20% which is quite ok.

The problem is back... For some unknown reason the phone doesn't go to sleep and starts to use more battery.
Battery History:
Other usage, since last unplugged:
Running (100%)
Screen on (3,2%)
Partial wake usage, since last unplugged:
Android System: Total time: 13s
Dialer: Total time: 0s
Maps: Total time: 0s
It seems that reboot helps with this every time. After reboot, running-% is 32.9 when screen on is 6.5%. It would still be interesting and helpful to know what causes this.

Do you mean it's a common bug, or is it normal thing for Android to not go to sleep after few hours of using the phone?

That's not true. My battery history shows that correct(as far as I can perceive) running time.

I get most of the time also. But after charging, at one point (after some time) for some reason the time spent without sleeping goes to 99%. The problem is, that the partial wake usage doesn't show that something is wrong. Usually restart helps, but sometimes it can be already late, because 100% running has already taken quite much of the battery.
Also, when the time spent without sleeping is 99% or 100%, the CPU is still NOT in heavy use. So something just prevents the phone to go to sleep mode, and it seems that it is not the CPU that causes it.

I got it through the phone, it was the 2.2.1 B136SP02 update. Not online at Huawei website. It doesn't seem to have improved battery life alas (or the frequent WiFi dropouts I've had since new, particularly while downloading app updates). Main feature of the update is WiFi tethering/hotspot support, at last...
What seems to have worked for me after a couple of weeks++ of REALLY crappy battery life is a battery stats wipe.
FullCharge while the phone was off. First boot in recovery, battery wipe and then i just let it run close to dry before the first charge (almost 48 hours of medium use). Note here that i am now using the charger that came with the phone because i noticed that my generic usb one had an output of 0.7A instead of the full 1A of the factory charger.
Another point arose however. Does anyone else have stability issues when battery drops below 25%? I am talking about some serious crash/reboot/lag/noradio issues.

Exhausted every effort trying to fix this problem.. ATRIX 4G: new battery time?

I'll post everything I've tried and everything that's gone wrong here.
So initially I purchased this phone off of a friend nearly brand new, the screen had broken and had been replaced. Otherwise the phone is in perfect factory condition.
I unlocked the phone, and am using it on Rogers. APN settings working perfectly.
I installed GOLauncherEX on the phone as Motoblur wasn't doing it for me.
Battery life was crap (lasting hardly 3 hours and dying while I sleep). I found that Motoblur HOME had been running alongside GOLauncherEX. At first I simply uninstalled the third-party launcher, but then opted to grab LauncherPro+ and HomeSwitcher. This dramatically improved battery life.
Lately, I've been having issues once in awhile again. Mostly if I leave the phone unplugged while I'm sleeping (fully charged when unplugged) and we'll use the timeline 3am - 11am. It would either die completely or drop to around 15%.
As long as I could have enough charge to last me through work, I was fine with this as it was way better than what had been happening before.
This morning something extreme and unexplainable happened.. and it's the first time I took a look at the battery usage meter to see what had happened. Picture is below.
If someone could offer some tips or help that would benefit me even the slightest, it would be very much appreciated.
My bad for sneaking a link in, but it was the only way to show the issue.

Calibrating is something you may need to do after flashing a ROM, you can search and find a guide or you can use this app.
I have not flashed any new roms and I don't intend on doing so, but I'll check out the app you posted.
Thanks for your help,
any new ideas are still welcome.
The benefits of battery calibration are not limited to only if you flash a new ROM. Battery calibration should be the first thing you try if you are experiencing battery troubles imo, and there is allot more in depth information in the guides you could search for.
There is one more thing I can think of you can try, download Watchdog and see if there are any malicious or poorly written apps burning up your cpu/battery.

Maybe unlock the bootloader and flash a custom rom?
Go into account and sync and shut off background data. I was getting. 10-12 hours battery life and now over 30 by just doing that. Worked for a buddy at work too.

Radio is key. After I flashed radio 1.77.30p, my phone can easily using 3 days without freeze anything.
Do not use 1.97 radio and don't use task killers. 2.3.4 gingerbread does a much better job of killing tasks than Froyo did and it's unnecessary. Also, turning off background data is not necessary.

I would say it is. Apps including google will try and update and locate your phone via 3g and gps when its sitting there idle. Its not necessary if you only install apps that dont use background data, or disable them individually but some dont allow it.
I still was able to get 15 hours with data enabled and over 30 with it disabled. There is a huge difference there. I just have to open my yahoo now to update it which I dont mind.
While I appreciate everyone's replies and help, has anyone actually looked at the picture I posted?
As much as I am most definitely interested in prolonging my battery life, that picture is showing a sudden drop from 70% to completely dead, idling, screen off, while I'm asleep.

I would purchase a new battery from Motorola, It looks like your battery has one or more bad cells in it. Only thing that really explains it. Even with everything turned ON as far as data - the battery should not drop that far that fast.
i'm not entirely sure whats going on with the charge level dropping so sharply. Either something is draining your battery big time or the readout when it says 100% is incorrect.
I had issues with the battery up time as well. In my case, the battery wouldnt last more than 8-9 hours. I had to charge it two times a day. Once overnight so its 100% when i go to work and again as soon as i get home. If i charged to 100%, unplugged and went to bed, it would be at 15-20% when i woke up.
The last time i went abroad, i left the radio turned off completely. I noticed that the battery held its charge for about a day and a half.
Now i did root, unlock the BL and install CM7 on my phone. It seemed better but not that much. After i setup the phone to NOT use my 3G data connection while my wifi was on, i noticed that i was getting great battery life when i was at home but still rubbish at work.
I'm doing a test right now to see if this makes a difference or not. I have turned off data on my phone all together this morning. I charged it to 100%. Normally after 6 hours at work, my phone is at about 30-35%
Right now its sitting at 75%
the 3g is whats killing the battery, on my phone anyway. I will see how long the battery lasts without turning on my data at all. Then i will compare that with how its like with background data turned off.
I would suggest you try re-calibrating your phone's battery, i use battery calibration from the market. Then either turn data off altogether like i have or just turn background data off as the others have suggested and see what kind of a difference it makes.
While i realize you dont want to, it may help further to have a ROM like CM7 installed as it wont have all the bloatware that can further reduce the performance of your phone. You should definitely give turning the data off a go to see its the culprit before you go spend money on a new battery which may or may not fix the problem.
Best to isolate the root cause before you spend money on fixing it. If turning off the data doesnt do it, then you very well may have a battery problem.

I'll definitely try everything you've mentioned, I did calibrate my battery since I first started this topic. I'm not sure if there's a difference, if there is, it isn't noticeable. My phone died last night, and I charged it overnight again so I haven't had a chance to see if what happened the other night will happen again. Soon enough, I'll post details if I notice anything peculiar.
Since you said you bought the phone off a friend I would like to make sure you have the right battery.
The battery "must" be of the following to show the right charge level, otherwise it might appear the battery discharging very quickly.
The part/model no.: SNN5893A
Manufacturing Date: ??/April/2011 or onwards
In regards to the poster above who mentioned shutting off background data, my phone lasts 17-19 hours running CM7 with nothing frozen, background data on, and I record quite a bit of video + pictures every day. I don't use task killers either. So I'm thinking that maybe the background data thing is either actually covering up a radio problem, a carrier issue, previous ROM information leaking through, or a faulty battery as stated above that could possibly need replaced.

[Q] battery drain while switched off

I noticed this a couple of days ago: I was in a place with no 3g nor wifi so I decided to switch O7 off. In the evening I switched it on and battery was empty.
I tried again yesterday with the same results. What"s using this phone while it's off?
Are you sure it is actually flat?
My battery has a problem, if i turn the phone off and then on it will show that my battery is empty and want to turn on battery saver. If i keep turning it off and on and mess with the battery contacts it reads properly.
Just a thought....
This is because the battery is cold, let it warm up and it will display the correct level

It also happens to me. Not usually but once every 1/2 weeks. I've been looking for a solution and the only one i found is switching off and on again until the battery level is ok. However i have to say that this has been happening since i installed 7740 update, so maybe the problem is that.
not actually drains...
I think the battery did not darain.
It is just the battery level is not displayed correctly; I had the same (or similar) problem. I switched off the phone while the battery was at 80% and the next morning when I switched it on I got the message "the battery is low..." and the wrong battery level displayed.
I kept it on for hours and it worked nicely; I noticed the battery info displayed 1% of residual charge and 7 hours of expected workng time...something weird
Suddenly after hours of usage the battery icon started to work properly.

Exactly the same as me. I'm on my 2nd Omnia handset now (warranty replacement) and this one does the same so I assume it's the battery that's faulty.
If you leave it on long enough the battery meter slowly increases over time until it reaches the true value.
Just installed 8107 upgrade via cab; let's see if problem have been noticed before and solved now
I noticed this problem also. After the mangu upgrade it is not there any more.
For me it seems that th eproblem laid in the firmware..
funny, I'm not the unique
Today I've tried to make an hard reset to see if the problem would have been solved. I'm on Mango 7740, tonight I'll try to switch off the mobile phone after charging.

I'm convinced it's a fault with the actual battery.
Ok, I yesterday evening I switched of the smartphone for some hours... Then I turned it on and I saw the"popup" which told me the battery was low.
I left the device on, with 3g on for all the night and this morning I found the battery level as it was before yesterday evening
I confirm the battery do not drains when the smartphone is turned off!

As I already said, this is because the battery gets cold when you switch off your phone, and it then appear drained. After heating up again it will recover it's charge.

Note 4 battery problem after flashing some custom roms

Hi everyone, i have problem with my note 4, battery drops from 11 % to 3% very fast and charges after 85% very slow.. this problems started 2 days ago when i flashed dn5 custom rom i thought it was rom problem and flashed sixperience rom but still i have same issue also i tried battery calibration but again.... what can i do???? and my screen on time is only 3 hour. please help me, thanks.
Have you checked what's eating away at your battery? Settings => Battery (Here you should be able to see if anything is causing a drain).
If the settings screen doesn't seem to show anything, you could try BetterBatteryStats (This app will be able to tell you everything that's going on regarding running processes, wakelocks,... You should give it a day or so from a fully charged battery.)
And if even BBS doesn't show anything, I'd flash the stock firmware again (And check if it isn't the battery).

thanks for reply , well im checking that stats regulary and nothing is unusual there. even on stock rom i had only 3 hour screen on time :| but now my main problem is that after root + greenify and etc i have again 3 hour on screen and battery % is abnormal ( i mean fast dropping from 11% to 3% and slow charge after 85%) i have to change battery or i can fix it somehow?

Well, in all fairness, mine is running CM 12.1, and SOT is a bit under 4hrs. Which isn't fantastic either. Quickcharge does slow down a bit after a certain percentage. You could try a new battery, but might be a waste of money.
I'm afraid I can't help you any further, maybe someone else can.

did u change ur battey? im going to buy anker battery as i know they have good ones
I am facing exactly the same problem .. I don't think buying a new battery will solve this problem.
My mobile is charging by AC very very slow and sometimes it stuck at certain percentage for hours and I tried many things but I am still facing this problem... While recharging if I removed the battery and put it again, the phone shows me that it is 100% while it was not 100% at all.
I wish someone can help us about this problem or if any of u guys tried a new battery and the problem has been solved, so please feed us back in here
Any updates!?

well after 3 4 days (i mean after flashing sixperience rom) everything is ok. discharge to 0% then wait and full charge + calibrate battery may fix issue. but still dont like screen on time. only up to 3.5 4 hours
That sounds weard...
I mean the good thing is we could change the battery.
I have a feeling this is not battery issue. it's exynos + apps running on the background. Try to root + disable unnecessary apps (maybe Android 4.4 Would give you higher SOT). I had Note 3 previously and SOT was at the level of around 6 hrs (snap processor) - now on exynos it's around 4 hrs on stock firmware (5.1.1).
