I've been using CM 3.4.0 for a few months, everything works great but video has stopped working. Five seconds into recording the app crashes having to reboot every time. I am know I'm on an old build, is there any remedy to this problem?

I think its only a problem recording in 1080p, the app crashes. Works fine with lower resolutions.

Hi there!
I've been using the leaked version of 2.2 and I really love it but my video camera stops working!! I can open the app and when I hit the record button the app closes. If I reboot works great for the next 3-4 hours then it fails again! and this only happens in 2.2 when I'm on 2.1 works perfectly.
yeah ive had the same problem, ive recently did a factory reset and hoping it will work...
I have the same problem. I was going to factory reset and see if that made ax difference but haven't done so yet.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
If one chooses a lower quality (anyone below HD) works again for a while... but then the problem comes back.
Mine was like that to but restarted the phone today and would you know it started working. No idea what happened

Me too when I reboot works great again but then after 4 hours brakes again
well after almost 8 hrs of a factory reset, all camera/video functions working well...
I also was having the same issues. Did a hard reset.
I have now found that if I use my Twitter account and have it launch camera do I have the issue. If I take a picture, then launch Twitter app and attach pic it is fine so far.
Any way to revert to old camera app?
I had the same issue - would launch, press record button and poof.
Rebooted phone using QuickBoot and voila. Working again.
Gonna try HTCCamera.apk, but I highly doubt it will work.
Hi.
Almost every second time the video recording freezes on my HD2. I tried a lot of ROMs. As I tried them I make out that the TyphooN CyanogenMod7 v3.6.9. is the best, but unfortunately under this ROM my video recording problem still exists.
Can somebody tell me what to do.
(Only Rafpigna 2.2 Froyo worked fine but it is not so up to date and it is draining my battery.)
Please help me.
Thanks.
Anybody?
Everything works well, but video recording.

I have posted on this issue quite a few times. After a certain amount of recordings the camcorder will freeze and the video is lost. It usually takes at least 10 recordings for the camcorder to crash or freeze on me.
I have tried many builds over the past year and it happens with all non sense builds for me. I believe it has something to do with how the data is being written to the SDcard, but I have tried another SDcard and have the same issue.
I have been sticking with Froyo sense builds and stripping them down for quite awhile now, the camcorder never crashes on a Froyo sense build for me. Of course alot of sense builds come with other issues.
Rafdroid 4.2 has been the best Froyo sense build I have found so far, but eventually I had incoming call freezes. The frankinstine sense builds were pretty good also, but they have some data stability issues.
i would agree with the 1 in 10 times it freezes when you hit stop, locks up, and the video is broken.
Every second time seems a bit much, but yea, its a fairly commonish error amongst the android roms.
For me the same - video freezes everytime
My snapchat won't record video for the full 10 seconds only about 6 seconds. Anyone else run into this problem or have a fix? Running the mdob bastid rom.
Yeah...it varies for me...I find that if I actually close/stop the app that it will record for the full amount if time...ive experienced this with all three of my androids...I think its gotta be related to its cache but idk

I've found that clearing the data completely fixes a lot of problems found in Snapchat
Yeah I tried both and neither worked. In isn't all ed it a few times as well. Maybe it's the rom.
Only the front camera records for 6 seconds and the back camera for 10 seconds for me.
Has anyone had issues with video recording?
I had noticed before that my V20's default camera wasn't recording correctly (audio can be heard, but video has no motion). I thought it was because it was set to 4k recording and that for some reason that didn't work correctly. Did not paid much attention to the issue till yesterday.
I recall having recorded some videos other times without problem. But yesterday, there was no way I could rec a video.
Tried all available resolutions (UHD, FHD 60, FHD, HD) and disabled steady rec & focus, basically enabled/disabled all video recording options. But no motion at all. In manual mode, when set to 1 or 2 fps. I have some movement (but obviously cannot record a normal video at all).
I tried Open Camera, but it's the same, cannot record any video (With Camera 2 Api on or off)
The only app I could get to record a video was Footej Camera (but cannot record to 60 fps, so it's like my videocamera is crippled or something)
I got the 10F firmware. (specifically H990ds10f_00_OPEN_TW_DS_OP_0622.kdz)
Has someone an advice or something I can do? I already tried disabling/enabling and clearing data of the camera app, but no luck.
Thnaks in advance
PS. Yesterday when I first had the issue in the morning, I rebooted the phone and recording worked again for a while.
But last night, tried the same and it didn't worked at all. Today I did the same, nothing.
Another update: Downloaded Google Camera port for Snapdragon 820, and the problem persists. I've noticed that if I force stop/clear data of the camera app, and reboot. It records video after rebooting. But tried again like 5 minutes later and it didn't record anything again.
I was messing with Titanium Backup and the camera app, and I was forced to factory reset my h990ds. Problem still persists. Could it have something to do with @emdroidle custom kernel?
Does someone has a hint or something?
UPDATE: Tried @Leicxan 's modded werewolf kernel 2.0 (no rctd) and haven't had issues with video recording or camera focus.

even i have that problem, most probably kernal is making some issue
i rooted my v20 with dirtysanta and installed some other kernal given in the post,so may be kernal is creating some issue
please please please somebody help
It is a known issue, but depending on your camera sensor(lg are manufacturing V20 with different sensors) you can make it work.
Head over to the root thread for more info.
Try using Footej Camera from the play store & you should be fine...
Possible solution?

I was reffered to this kernel by emdroidle https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73294716&postcount=391
I flashed the no rctd kernel based on werewolf 2.0 by leicxan. I no longer have issues with video recording, neither with autofocus (at least at this point). I have been running this kernel for a week now and i haven't had issues.
Hope it helps you

I think this is not a "real" solution, just an avoidance of the problem. But I managed to get my cam working thanks to emdroidle and leicxan.
thankyou sooo much it is working perfectly fine for H900ds, thankyou so much
one issues been solved, but now i got another issues, i can't hear other voice when call or video call using whatsapp, they voice like a robot... any one know how to fixed this ? i've just reinstalled whatsapp, but issues still occurs
Just got this phone from a coworker, factory reset to Android 5.
I tried to take a video with the stock camera app but when I press the video button, nothing happens.
I loaded some music on the phone from my computer and everytime I click play on Poweramp, the scrollbar goes nuts. On google music it tells me the requested song could not be played. When I try to play videos on youtube chrome, chrome crashes.
When I try to play a 3d game (I downloaded this: https://apkpure.com/city-racing-3d/com.racergame.cityracing3d ) the app does not even start.
I tried updating the webview app as recommended here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/nexus-4-video-playback-issue-android-5-t3177415
But this did not help.
Is there a misconfiguration with the stock rom? Or maybe the GPU in the phone is completely fried and the CPU is the only thing running? I tried an Antutu test which ran just fine. I can post results if that helps.
I am considering installing Lineage OS on it and seeing if that makes the trick. But I want to be sure that this is a software issue before I spend all that time on a phone that might not work.
Thank
UPDATE:
The phone randomly restarts at times so I'm suspecting that the motherboard is to blame. I opened it however and nothing suspect was found.
Installed latest version of lineage os (15.1) and got youtube playback, audio playback. There's just no audio from the speakers or headphone jack but connects to bluetooth just fine. When attempting to take a video with the camera application, the camera app just crashes and says that it can't communicate with the camera.
Am I right in assuming its the mobo?

Flash a different ROM (I suggest Nitrogen OS) and see if the problem persists, that'll give you a better idea.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Labs
Thanks @Akhilesh S V!
I flashed nitrogen OS and original problem persists: I cannot take any videos as the stock camera app crashes when trying.
Otherwise, phone reacts pretty normally and can play video, play music and whatnot. What must I do to fix the camera app? This was a clean flash onto Nitrogen OS.

Camera is a problem in new Android versions. Did u flash stock lollipop rom or just factory reset the phone. Maybe some binaries got messed up. Intead of factory reset, try flashing the stock lollipop rom from google, deleting everything so better backup stuff. That rom had the most stable version of camera for mako. If the problem persists there then there's no hope on any other rom. As for hardware checks there are a lot of apps so u can do that.
