Hi everyone !
I searched for a case like mine on the forum, but didn't find a solution to my problem, so you're my last hopes !
I have a Nexus 7 (2012) WIFI for a while now and I wanted to return to stock, on Lollipop (I was on Paranoid Android ROM, 4.4.4).
So, l used the Nexus Root Toolkit and ran the "return to stock + unroot" feature.
I downloaded the last google image for my device (5.0.2) and let the thing began.
It erases all partitions like it has to do, but when it needs to write bootloader, it fails and says: "FAILED (command write failed (Unknown error))".
I tried severals time, but always same problem. So I tried to flash stock 4.4.4, but can't write bootloader too: "FAILED (No suck device)" or "FAILED (too many links)" errors appear, something like those.
So, in last hopes, I tried to do this manually and followed this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1907796
I erased correctly all partitions, but when I need to flash bootloader with "fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-tilapia-4.23.img" command, I get "FAILED (command write failed (Unknown error))" too...
I can't flash recovery, get the same error as the bootloader one...
If someone had the same problem or if someone can help me to restore my Nexus 7, it would be very kind !
Thanks to everyone who'll read this
Also have the same problem generated by the very same software!!
Anyone have any further info please?

It's pretty well known that for some reason, the bootloader images included on many of the factory images for grouper are not valid, and Google has never corrected this. You'll need to grab a valid bootloader from a different factory image, and flash it manually.
Check this thread out, it's all been covered in great detail there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2573015
Edit: Also, if you're already on a valid bootloader version 4.23, then there's no need to flash the bootloader again.
When I try to flash TWRP (via "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img" then "fastboot boot twrp.img") I receive the following error:
Downloading 'boot.img'
OKAY [1.477s]
booting...
FAILED (remote: dtb not found)
finished. total time: 1.534s
I've tried manually booting it into recovery with power button and volume down but it just freezes on the oneplus logo where I have to turn off and on again.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
I found the solution.

I tried this recovery (I had the same problem as the OP) but although I can boot into twrp, I get stuck on the oneplus logo if I try a normal boot?

I managed to get it working by flashing CM after flashing the recovery.

Next time, correct command is the following:
Fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
You tried to flash the recovery image onto the kernel/boot partition, luckily it doesn't allow this, unless it's an actual kernel image fitting that partition. ?

Actually, fastboot boot twrp.img boots the TWRP image without flashing it.
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img flashes the TWRP image to the recovery partition.
Both are valid commands and have their uses.
fastboot flash boot twrp.img would be the command to try to flash the recovery image to the boot partition and shouldn't be used.

Are you sure you flashed the correct OOS3 bootloader compatible version of TWRP? Latest official 3.0.0-2 should be compatible.

The bootloader (also called fastboot) comes with the original ROM. In your case you're already on the newer bootloader since you flashed OOS3 which means you will have to flash recoverys and ROMs compatible with this newer bootloader.
This TWRP should be compatible
https://dl.twrp.me/oneplus2/twrp-3.0.2-1-oneplus2.img.html
Also you can't run ROMs not compatible with this newer bootloader (which means pretty much any ROM that's not using the official Cyanogenmod source tree for building). That is except for OOS3 or newest HOS of course since these are made for the newer bootloader.
However I would say the error message you get might be caused by bad cable, faulty driver setup, faulty fastboot tool version or in worst case damaged partition layout on phone. The last one can be fixed by the Qualcomm OOS2 factory restore solution.
Hi, i am having the same problem.
some background: I was on Oxygen OS 2.x.x, i wanted to upgrade to Exodus 6. I had the older version of TWRP. So I tryed to install the new twrp image within twrp. When i rebooted i couldnt boot into twrp, receiving the same error message as in OP title, when using fastboot.
Using the tool all in one toolkit I was able to flash stock recovery.
But I still cant flash Twrp.
I can still boot into system though.
Any advice? Thanks.
That explains why you're having problems. You're doing it the wrong way.
First you must upgrade the bootloader by either flashing the convert to Marshmallow zip file which also installs the correct TWRP for the new bootloader (easiest way). Or you could flash the latest official OOS3, then fastboot flash the latest TWRP and from there format system and flash the ROM that's using the newer bootloader.
Does that Link work with oneplus x also? Having same problem as Higgings when trying to install twrp and cyanogenmod.
thnx a lot for sharing

So for some background, I was on EMUI 4.1 and successfully flashed to EMUI 5.
Then, I wanted to rollback so I flashed recovery again and stock firmware. I tried flashing with fastboot and didn't work. I tried using Huawei recovery 3-button method, no luck either.

When I was booting into Revolution recovery, I could not mount SD card and some other partitions so maybe that has something to do with the 3-button method problem... Furthermore, I don't know how to check which version exactly my phone is, all I know is that it was VNS-L31.
Now I'm stuck with a phone that is constantly rebooting so how do I proceed?
First of all...
Please tell me you have a backup of your Nougat ROM. If yes, restore it.
I have failed to go back to MM several times like you before.
It really is a question of using the right files.
First, flash the OEMInfo that is provided here in the forums.
Second, flash the right firmware. This one is tricky. For me, ONLY VNS-L31 Version C150 worked. No other.
Flashing with fastboot always never works. It always gives an error on system. So you need to find a firmware that works with 3-button method.
Your task now is the get back to working Nougat, since you did something wrong.
Unlock BL, flash Nougat recovery with fastboot.
Then,
easiest is like I said restoring a backup.
If you don't have one, try flashing the Revolution ROM by BadWolf.

Have just solved the problem with the steps from here.
From my understanding, it seems that I lost almost everything, device info, OEM info, recovery... So no technique was working.
The solution in brief was:
1. Go into bootloader to flash recovery (I used Revolution Recovery)
2. In recovery, flash OEM info.
3. Then used the 3-button method to install stock version for the appropriate model (which I could see from OEM info).
4. Unlocked bootloader, triggering a factory reset. (I was stuck in infinite boot before this point.)
As you say Schlengge, it is a matter of using the right files! Thanks. Problem solved.
hi now I no you prob see this title and think oh another 1 but hear me out as I cant find any thing the same as the issue I'm having.

Most likely the flashing wasn’t complete or corrupted or the stock ROM wasn’t the correct one (Remember to be safe you’d have to flash the original ROM when you bought the phone) that being said. My suggestion you should try flashing TWRP again and boot into TWRP. Then flash stock ROM which will overwrite the current config. Not guaranteed, but it’s worth a shot.
Good luck.

1) If you're rooting on stock Motorola Nougat ROMs, you need a custom kernel - attempting to root on the stock Motorola hudsoncm kernel usually results in a boot failure or bootloop as you've found. https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...de-root-moto-g4-plus-supersu-android-t3587918 for a useful guide, you can root with either magisk or SuperSU.
2)That security downgrade error suggests you're attempting to flash stock firmware older than the firmware matching your device's bootloader. If you need newer firmware, you could look into this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/stock-rom-npjs25-93-14-4-march-1-t3608138 You'll need to flash this firmware via fastboot/the bootloader.
3) Try first of all booting into TWRP, copy a custom kernel to your device via a computer and USB cable, and then flash the custom kernel. See if that gets your device booting. If not, you may have to re-flash the stock firmware to get your device booting again (or use a backup, if you had one).

Unfortunately you'd have to wait for a newer firmware, the NPJS25.93-14-13, NPJS25.93-14-15 and NPJS25.93-14-18 firmwares are for retail devices. Amazon devices are on a different firmware and as you've partially flashed the Dec 2017 firmware, you'd likely need AMZ NPJ25.93-14.7-3 or NPJ25.93-14.7-5 (Feb 2018 update), however neither AMZ build appears to be available at the moment.
If you're desperate for a working device, your best bet may be to talk to Amazon or Motorola support, or if your bootloader was previously unlocked, you could try to unlock your bootloader and flash a custom ROM.
I will wait for a new firmware amz
Hello Guys,
I have a U Ultra with a boot problem.
Failure: It starts, show up the logo for a short time, than it shut down.
In fastboot mode the lock status is relocked. Flashing in fastboot there is no chance. Because the OEM Unlock flag in the rom is off. The recovery does nothing, same behavior as on startup...
The only way to get the phone back to life is the sideload via OTA flash zip file on a sdcard.
Problem: I don't have such a file with os 2.21.410.1, I have only a 1.64.401.10 file.
If I try this file it shows me a Version Androis-Info Error.
Where can I get such a flash file with the version 2.21.401.1 with oreo (european version)?
On the other side I try to patch the info.bin file but , the version is easy to patch but it seems so that this file has a byte in front, that changed in a unknown way and 8 bytes in the middle of the file with the same problem, this could be a file size or checksum I don't know what it is and how it will be generated. The rest of the file is filled with zeroes.
Does somebody have information about the file structure of the info.bin in the flash file?
I heared about LeeDrOiD, that he worked a long time for HTC, maybe he could help to get this phone back to life????

hi guys,
I run thru the infos from an other post here in the forum and that I have done successfully.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/u-ultra/help/howto-unbrick-ultra-t3891033
The behaviour is now a bit different, it runs now in a boot loop, the logo has change to the normal htc logo without red text. The recovery shows a red exclamation mark, and run in the bootloop...
The main problem remains, I need a 2.21.401.1 firmware file to flash on the phone... what a m....
I can't find such a file in the internet, the exe firmaware files end up on version 1.64... and I think, this are only us version files. I need HTC__034.
Any ideas?
Is it possible to patch a lower version of a firmware rom just to get the phone running, to open the OEM unlock, and than to flash whatever? I have an twrp backup of my mobile.
The firmware.zip file from @minhnewpro in OTA, where does it come from? The OTA looks like a twrp or titanium backup file. But I can't get it in my mobile without twrp...
Were it possible to integrate the twrp.img in the firmware.zip file as recovery partion? Would it help at all without the open bootloader, can twrp write things with a locked bootloader? I'm not so firm in that matter... In my understanding of this matter it can???

my wifes mobile is the same..., and that mobile is on 1.64...,
were it possible to initiate the update on 2.21..., and then it downloads the update file. Where resides this update file? Can I get this file from my wifes mobile, to flash it on my mobile?
Does anybodey know this?
In my opinion this process is the same as the RUU flash, the file must be on a special partition, I think, then the mobile goes into RUU flash mode, and the command are fired to flash this rom, thats what I think...

the recovery don't comes up, it also hangs in a bootloop. Or do you mean something different?
I can go to the fastboot mode, or in the bootmode for recovery, that dosen't help, I have no OTA with 2.21.401.1, that I could flash, just a lower version (1.64.401.10), that will be rejected by the RUU flash in because of the wrong version. To change the version in the bootloader I need a open bootload and a running os with adb, all that isn't the case.
I need OTA flashable rom with the 2.21.401.1 version to run it with RUU flash, and if this works is will work, that is the next question..., I think and hope it will work...
Why does the recovery didn't comes up, maybe that is the same problem as in the boot situation, the dead boot.img or a corrupted os, I don't know the reason, my last flash was a LeDrOiD, the boot.img maybe does no fit the original boot process. On the other hand, LeDrOiD was also an Oreo rom, as I had a problem with my magisk update I put back my original boot.img from my mobile backup, and my mobile boots up normaly, then I flashed back the LeDrOiD system things and it boots up normaly and magisk was fine.
I don't know whats wrong, why the recovery was gone, why the boot.img dosen't work and so on...
where resides the recovery.img? In the same partition as the boot partition or on its own partition?

hey dude,
please don't be serious but have you read my starting thread?
The bootloader is locked, you can't flash anything with fastboot! The only way to flash something is over RUU flash, so I'm a bit confused about your proposals
I hope I don't missunderstand things, because you are a senior member, and I do not want to upset anyone.
There is no OTA on the mobile so that the recovery can do it's job.
Wich OTA you mean? The real OTA from HTC look like:
OZA.zip
info.bin
zip_0.zip
zip_1.zip
etc...
Your and the other OTA's look like this:
OTA.zip
[dir] META-INF
[dir] preload
contexts.bin
etc....
Your OTA's are flashable from twrp, made with (I don't know, titanium backup)
A RUU flash want me to pass a real HTC OTA with a version higher or equal to that version that is installed before...
I know, there is a possibility to extract your OTA's but what is it good for? fastboot can't flash the recovery.img because the bootloader is locked.
That's my actual understanding of this matter and that's the behavior of the mobile.
If I'm wrong with something, please let me know.

new information on my side
The recovery comes up with these special key's (wait for the red exclamation, press power + VolUp).
Ok, but the information from htc support "WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET" leads also to no success. Everything was made fine but after reboot is the bootloop.
The new menu in the recovery offers me to flash a real OTA from a ADB process or a SDcard, hmm, ok there is controled way now for doing this but I tryed all may real OTA's without success, because of the lower version or false cid's.
I asked the support for an actual OTA update file, but I dont think that they will give me that file.
The ADB process is a very restricted version of ADB, that mean's you can't get a shell or something like that, just the sideload and print some variables...
Is it possible to extract the real OTA, change something, and repack it?
