Radio/Antenna consuming 2% per hour battery - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I've had my N4 for a few years now. For a few months now, my battery life has gone to sh*t. I switched to the ROMs that I used back in kitkat that ensured a great and long battery life (20hrs+) and the battery life was still bad (with 2% battery loss per hour while off). I rarely have 3G/LTE on, it's mainly on 2G.
I used greenify and xposed to maximize hibernation and that didn't do me any good.
However, when I tried airplane mode to turn off that antenna, battery life went up to 0.5% loss per hour, which is much more acceptable.
Can someone explain why? Or provide a solution for this? (A new driver perhaps?)
Thanks in advance

ok, my phone battery life is messed up. Help please

Hi guys, this is not another rant post about battery life, but i'm starting to become really
frustrating with it, i tried almost all the solutions provided here on the forum but i can't
simply get the **** out of it. This is my story:
I bought the phone as used around 1 month ago (the guy who sold me the phone used it for around 1
month as well). I was quite satisfied about the device, but i noticed almost immediately the damn
poor battery life. With stock battery, my stats are (this is an average of the last 3 times i
used it):
Average duration: 27 hours
Average display usage: 2.5 hours
Average display %: around 45%
Average standby: Cell 30%, phone 15-16, other apps and android core 1-2
This with the following configuration:
3g off
gps off
background data off
bluetooth off
display brightness set to the minimum
no background applications or live wallpapers
No animations
No vibration feedback
No sounds
No widgets
Removed 5 touchwiz panels out of 7
Wi fi on (actually i noticed some small improvements by leaving it off)
The strange thing is, i noticed that the phone drains a LOT of battery while in standby. During
the night (7-8 hrs standby) my phone can drains up to 20% of the battery life. I read on the
forum that a lot of you guys have a battery drain overnight of around 2-3% which is 10 times
lower than mine.
So i thought about 2 possible causes:
1) Software related(processes or applications running in background)
2) Hardware related (battery ****ed up by the previous owner; phone not going in standby correctly)
Regarding the problem 1) i tried almost every solution provided here on the forum. Updated to new roms (JM5 and JM8) installed ultraslim roms, installed battery saving applications and task killers, performed some exotic "fixes" (removed battery stats file, tried to completely drain the battery following some procedures explained here on the forum). Nothing helped. To check case 2) i bought a cameronsino extended battery. Well with this battery i have exactly twice the duration of the stock battery. Last night i charged it to full before going to bed. This morning, when i woke up, the phone drained 10% (!) of the battery in 8 hours. So the stock battery is not the problem. What should i think then? that My phone is ****ed up? is There no chance to obtain a decent battery life? How is possible that a lot of guys have almost twice my battery life with stock battery?
I guess your phone may not be going into the sleep mode correctly ... try using system panel (from the market) and figure out which rogue app is causing the problem. Mine usually drains 4-5% at night.. (jm8 stock + voodoo)...

how long your battery used? if >2-year heavy use, could well be battery degrade. no solution except for buying a new one. (symptom: battery charge sudden drop, like 50% -> 20%).

For me battery drops can sometimes happen when I don't charge battery to 100% - so it's good idea to always charge to full.
First of all you should check if your battery is going into deep sleep mode. You can do that by installing Bettery Battery Stats, and leaving your phone idle with the screen off for some time. You should read the forum post to understand how it works. If after leaving your phone on "stand-by" you realize that it's not going into Deep Sleep mode, then you should find out what is keeping your phone awake.
I used to have the same situation as you, and it turned out that I had set the WiFi Sleep Policy in Viber to override the Roms setting, and consequently leaving my WiFi always on (which prevents your phone from sleeping). After fixing the issue in Viber my phone now turns WiFi off after 15 minutes of leaving my phone idle.
Now unless your battery is actually dying on you, I'm sure you can get a better battery life. I am using Tasker to program my phone to turn WiFi off when I turn off my screen, and then turn it on for 1 minute every 15 minutes during the day, and at nights it does the same thing but with an interval of 1 hour and half. There are apps in the Play Store that do this too, I've tried these both, and they work as they should, and they can even control your Data connection
Green power
Deep Sleep Battery Saver
All in all I've been losing an average of 1.7% during the day, and 0.7% and 1.2% per night. My battery currently lasts about 2 days on one charge. This is all assuming it is actually your WiFi that's preventing your phone from sleeping, I just figured I'd share my experience in case it is in fact that; the important thing being that you could probably get the same results as I have (or even better, considering your battery isn't busted) if your phone is actually going into Deep Sleep.

Abmysal battery life

Hello guys recent p8 lite owner here I am having huge issues with battery life, I charged it to 100% and went to sleep, data was off wifi off nfc off basically nothing was on and when I woke up 7 hours later battery is at 75% with 0 Screen on time.. even when data is off 3g sign shows above and most of my battery goes to the mobile signal according to the graph..
I only get about 90 minutes of screen on time per day, any tips on improving this? I have auto-sync on does it eat up lot of the battery life?
also is there a way for it to use 2g signals for browsing to save battery... should be able to switch o 3g,4g for high intensive stuff like youtube.. im assuming if I use 2g my standby time will improve a lot.
Thanks
I use the Optimization button and Ultra Battery mode quite a bit and can usually get two days on a charge without much trouble. I've had the phone since June, and I don't think the battery has ever lasted less than a day (but I'm not a real heavy user).
In Ultra Battery mode, the battery drains just a bit overnight, maybe 3%. I also use Ultra Battery during the day when I'm at the computer and don't need the phone for anything besides calls and texts.
Early on, I disabled quite a few apps that I never use, and that has probably helped the cause.
I've always got 4G turned on (except when it shuts off on its own because of Ultra Battery or WiFi ).

Battery Drops to 81%, Only 3% Usage Detected

Hi everyone,
I performed a Factory Reset on my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge as all of a sudden I was experiencing poor battery performance. Since the Factory Reset, I now only have the device's default apps installed, with the exception of me installing WhatsApp!
The features turn on are: WiFi, Location, Bluetooth, Mobile Data, Sync, NFC and Always On Display (Night Clock). This has always been the case since day one and I don't really want to start having to disable features as that becomes a nuisance.
Just before going to sleep, I charged my device to 100% and then unplugged it. On checking it this morning, the phone had been on battery for 7 hours 53 minutes (totally unused during this time) and it reports the following: Cell Standby at 2% (53 mAh) and Device Idle at 1% (41 mAh) and that's it.
For the first year, the phone would only drop by say... 3-5% for the whole night (with all my fancy apps installed!)
Why would the performance drop so significantly? How can I fix this? Could the Android OS be doing something in the background that it actually isn't aware of and is eating up my battery?
Any comments and tips would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
X22
Welcome to my world...I have the same issue with my phone from the start. Could never understand how other people can get great battery life and I can't. When not using my phone, I loose 3-5 % per hour, more if I use it. My phone never goes to sleep/deep sleep. I tried all combinations to save battery life, but to no avail. I took my phone to Samsung as my display developed grey lines a month ago. I got my phone back and they informed me as part of their service I got a new battery free of charge. With the new battery I get 2% drop per hour, when not using the phone, still no deep sleep etc. We did have an update about 2 months ago and since then the battery life is a bit better when using the phone, it's not draining as quickly, but deep sleep is a big no no when not using the phone...
Hi @termdj
When I first got the phone it was absolutely solid. If you charged it before sleep, you could wake up the next morning and the phone was at a solid 90+% (easily!).
Now with everything turned off (WiFi, Location, Bluetooth, Sync and NFC) the battery is just not performing and loses 20% during the night.
However, I feel it may not necessarily be the battery, but an Android OTA Update which could be causing this. It's only been a short period of time since I noticed it and I haven't noticed a gradual decrease in performance.
Just hoping that some wizard says "you need to do X, Y and Z and all will be sorted"... here's hoping!
Regards,
X22
Look around on XDA and try some of the suggested battery saving tips. I tried some of them, but with a lot of them it's mostly turning of key functions/features....That's not why I bought the phone, so I use the relevant functions. I have made piece that my battery life isn't wow. I think that something is keeping your phone awake, preventing deep sleep, just as in my case...
I also have the same problem since updating to Nougat

Battery drain Fossil gen5

Hi all,
Since a few days I have a huge battery drain om my Fossil gen5. It never was the best battery, but it lasted from 6am till 9-10pm before it went in battery saving mode (without sport exercise)
Now it's already in batt saving mode after 10 hours .
Everything is "on" except WiFi, nfc and OK google detection. The same settings and apps as a month ago.
Are there any tricks/mods/custom roms to extend battery life without compromises in functionality?
I already did a reinstall, but unfortunately it didn't affect the battery life.
Hope someone can help me

Other than turning off things like Location (as you already have Wifi and NFC off), not too much else than uninstalling apps you don't need, and turning off Notifications on most of your apps except the main essentials you want.
Turn off Always On displays, or the Tilt/Tap to Wake (they do consume more battery and it's just as easy to hit the main crown).
Only turn on Location/etc when you need them rather than on all the time.
Also the little battery inside, if you've been using it from 0% charged to 100% the whole time, instead of keeping in in 20% ~ 80% (ie: not charging more than 80% or so), the battery itself will deteriorate after a while. Keeping it between 20% and 80% typically keeps most Li-Ion/Po batteries healthy longer. (kind of why wireless ear buds can't hold a charge anymore after 2 or 3 years).
