It's obvious that if you place the file in Ringtones folder(I hope it's internal) media storage for Sound&Notifications automatically get updated. But if you don't see then reboot the device. Still if you dnt see then in the file explorer(wherever you just pasted) press and hold the song and in menu(options) selects 'Set as' or 'Use as' ringtone

Install ES file explorer from play store and after that while selecting the rightone from the system settings select es file explorer to complete the action. From there navigate to the directory where you have your file and select that .

If you want to set custom Ringtone in Moto G5 Plus without any third party apps, Then here is a simple method to set Ringtone in Moto G5 Plus. Moto G5 Plus and Moto G5 run on Android 7.1.1. The UI on both devices are identical. So you can also set custom ringtone in Moto G5 using this method.
1. First, download or save the Ringtone you want to set to your Moto G5 Plus. It is fine if you have the music file on microSD card.
2. Now open the file manager.
3. Find the folder where the ringtone is saved(you can also find it under Audios section).
4. Copy the file by long pressing the file and then tap on copy button(overlapping square box button left to three vertical dots.) which is at the top.
5. Now go to the folder Local->Internal storage->Ringtones.
6. Paste your Ringtone here.
7. Now go to Settings->Sound->Phone Ringtone.
8. Choose your Ringtone from the list which you want it as default phone Ringtone.
9. Click on OK and you’re done! The Ringtone will be set!
Hope it helps. Hit Thanks if it helped.

hello,
i have updated the rom and now i lost the T9 dictionary of romanian language. Can anyone post the dictionary or explain how can i add it back and remove others?
thank you
I can't help you in that but can tell you that you are lucky man. That **** t9 is most stupid thing i ever saw...
I got a french HD Mini, so I'm going to translate from mine, which can a little differ from yours:
- Go to the "settings" tab
- Choose from there "Regional Settings and Text"
- Than choose "text input"
and re-add any language you want.
You can add/change/delete T9 words by running "eT9MyWords.exe", which is located in "Windows" folder.
You can also make a shortcut (copy-paste shortcut) in:
Windows\Start menu\Programs for easiest using.
Tnx!

Much appreciated, solved a very strange problem for me.
In specific being the fact that I could not delete words from my user dictionary and was getting frustrated searching through REG for it.

Thanks for the image. It's not found on my phone. I did a visual big-icons search. File by file. There's no such icon. I've search a few other folders too. Can't find it.
My unit is HD mini. From what unit did you took that screen shot?
It's under "Windows" folder in internal memory, which contains a lot of files. Don't bother with folders inside "Windows" folder.
The file is common for all devices.

Yes. I've searched the files under Windows folder. Not the subfolders. There's no such file in my HD mini. What HTC phone unit do you use?
Diamond 2 (Topaz).
I wonder, how did other guys find it!
I'm not familiar with english menu. There are some settings for XT9 under Settings-More-Input (maybe under Personal). Maybe some changings and writing some words, using T9, makes the system create it.

I searched the registry, device and the sd card. I found they are in the 'windows' folder...
But I cannot delete them...
I am using the Energy rom... I do not think it does exist in the rom before... Acturally, it appears after I installed some software....
Does anyone have a way to delete them? Thanks...
im using resco explorer which allows me to delete such files, im not familiar with total commander but there may be something in the settings which will allow you to delete those files....
you could download the free trial of resco and try that way....
hope that helps....
Thanks mate... I have Resco as well...it shows me
Any suggestion? I am pretty sure the ENERGY team did not put these useless wav file with meaningless name under windows folder... It s my fault... I install some software...but I cannot remember which one...
yeah I was wrong I cant delete them either...
it must be to do with the rom though....
il look into this when I get home and let you know if I get to the bottom of it....
Hey
i had a similar issue when trying to free up some space on my old tytn2
the files were ringtones (.wma) but in theory this should work with most files
give this a go: copy the offending file to any other folder (my docs, sd card...)
uncheck 'read only' in file property
copy back to windows folder - overwrite when asked/ warned
then you should be able to delete from windows folder.
(backup 1st, just in case)
hope this helps

I listened to the files and they seem to be sound files for some sort of gps / navigation program.... Ive never installed any such program and as resco says they're in the rom memory it must be something to do with the energy rom........
Cant think of any way to delete them, They dont realy occupy much space its just a pain that they appear in the notification sounds menu......

I'm having this same problem. I don't want to delete the files, I just don't want them showing up in the drop down menu in Sounds & Notifications. Can't they just be moved to the Sound folder in App Data in the phone memory?
It seems Samsung in it's infinite wisdom decided it will make the boot sound on Marshmallow silent.
I've seen this on Note 5, S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, S7 and S7 Edge Marshmallow stock roms
When you extract the system.tar from these Marshmellow roms the audio file for PowerOn.ogg is silent.
So, if you want a boot sound you need
1. Root and / or custom recovery - like TWRP
2. a new PowerOn.ogg (or an old one from a previous rom if that is what you like)
3. a root file manager / browser app (I use root explorer v3.3.7 as v4 seems to have bugs?!?)
Q: Where is the boot sound located?
A: root/system/media/audio/ui -> PowerOn.ogg
In this screenshot you can see I have already replaced PowerOn.ogg due to the larger file size and date

I am using the PowerOn.ogg from my Note 4 running android 5.1.1
You can download it from my google drive here -> https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxOh5UkYXJw0NzZKSG9FU0NNTVU/view
(click the downward pointing arrow up the top to download the file when you are on the page)
best to use your phone to download this for this tutorial as I will reference the place it is download to (by default) or you can manually put it here from your PC
The location the file saves to is sdcard/Download -> PowerOn.ogg
Q: How do I change this manually on my phone
Well, you need root (to access and re-write system files) and a root browser app (there are free ones I believe on google play but I use "root explorer" as outlined above as this was a free paid app from amazon a while ago!)
So this is my guide (with pictures) using root explorer but the same applies with any root browser app
1. Install "root explorer" from Google Play (or any free alternative) - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer&hl=en
2. Open "root explorer" from your app drawer or from the google play app (if you just downloaded it)
3. Once in root explorer navigate to where you saved the downloaded PowerOn.ogg on your phone (sdcard/Download)
4. Long press on the file PowerOn.ogg and an options menu will pop up, then select "Copy"
5. You will now see down the bottom of the app an option for COPY HERE
6. Scroll up on the root explorer listing and press ".. " (parent folder) until the folder is back to "ROOT"
7. Then navigate to system/media/audio/ui
8. Press COPY HERE which is located on the bottom left
9. You will get a warning that the folder is read only - press Yes
10 You will get a warning that PowerOn.ogg already exists and do you want to over write it - press Yes
The new PowerOn.ogg is now written to your system
11. We now have to change permissions of the file to match those in the folder (currently the file is rw-rw-rw and we want it rw-r--r--
12. Long press on the file PowerOn.ogg and an options menu will pop up - Select Properties
13. Change the properties to Owner - Read and Write, Group - read, Others - read by un-ticking the boxes in the write column on the rows of Group and Others and then select OK
14. Check the read write properties is the same as the other files
15. Exit out of the app (press home button) then turn up your system volume!
... and reboot and enjoy!!!
CWM / TWRP Flashable zip
For those using custom recovery
Flashable zip here -> https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxOh5UkYXJw0cmlnWE9uUVNjblU/view?usp=sharing

Template to insert your own custom PowerOn.ogg into your system
Flashable zip here -> https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxOh5UkYXJw0UlQxc3NmYzl1b1U/view?usp=sharing
1. download to your PC
2. extract zip
3. navigate to system/media/audio/ui
4. place your own PowerOn.ogg in the folder
5. go back to the root folder (PowerOn_inserter_template) where you see the 2 folders "META-INF" and "system"
6. highlight both folders and zip .. call it whatever you like
7. transfer to you phone
8. reboot into your custom recovery and install

volume is determined on what your ringtone volume is before you restart or shutdown.
I.e. if your phone is on silent when you reboot your boot sound will be silent ..etc etc

Hi Expert!

You know how to root Nokia 6? Please advise.
no... I have never rooted a phone before, but ES file Explorer is an app in Google play (see link) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.estrongs.android.pop
and you don't have to root the phone when you read / folder, you need only read access to copy ringtones from that folder to internal memory or SD card, if you want to write to this folder you have to ask some other because I don't know how to root.
but you don't have to root phone just for uploading ringtones here.

Nice work bro
I got my S8+ today and set up has been a breeze. However, I want to set up some ring tones but can't find them! The Settings Sounds option just takes me to a directory listing and the Ringtones directory has just one file. Am I missing something? Where's the usual list of tones?

Just found a zip file with the ring and notification tones and have loaded them. However, the zip file also contained a directory called "UI" with a load of sound files but there is no such directory on the phone. Any ideas where these files should go?
OP probably run into same stupid problem as I did: first time I changed ring tone, it gave me option to pick file manager, I picked wrong one, which didn't have access to system files and was set as default. From now on everytime I want to change ringtone, I get root directory with empty ringtone folder. Going to default to reset it didn't help, that particular default was not listed in there. I had to uninstall the es file manager to get the option to choose default apps again and the one with Android icon is the right one with proper access. Once you do that it will work. I absolutely hate Android access folder restrictions, can't wait to root this stupid phone so it works the way it should. I also changed settings for default apps: most default apps don't show up in default apps menu, how am I supposed to change them? Now I have option to run it once, test it and then later set as default, if I want to. And why ringtone folder has restricted access is totally beyond me.
Thank you pete4k. I had the same problem and you pointed me to the solution. I didn't have to uninstall ES file manager, though. I just went to Settings/Apps/ES File Manager Pro/Set as Default and pressed the "Clear Defaults" button.

Tried looking everywhere file explorer, where did the built in folder of ringtone just shown empty. Beyond my understandment.

Thanks to pete solution worked. Im trying to click thanks but its greyed out. So i register & logged in especially to do that.
Solution as described go to settings app es explorer clear defaults.
Then went back to settings selected ring tone it asked me choose es explorer or green android bar ( original android ) selected original android. Simply got all builtin ringtones back, as well as my mp3 ringtone was automatically added to built in list.
Much thanks couldnt do it without this help.
Some problems are beyond underst.
Very quick solution. But took time to get here.
Thanks to google, this forum & mr pete once again
On my Galaxy S8, I was using Total Commander instead of ES File Explorer, so I ended up finding the actual directory: /system/media/audio/ringtones and /system/media/audio/notifications.
