Anyway to turn off the EDGE screen sensitivity? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I have owned my S7 Edge for a couple of months. But still cannot get used to the sensitivity of the screen edges. I can't hold the phone or use it without the folds of my hands touching the edge of screen and causing unwanted screen presses and activations. I find it almost impossible to use this device in one hand due to this.......
I was hoping that there might be a way to reduce or turnoff the screen edges sensitivity...... Does anyone have any suggestions.
And before anyone suggested a case, I don't want to use a case as that defeats the look of this phone IMHO.
Stock and UN rooted dual SIM.

I can't believe that I'm the only person to have this issue...... No-one got any advise about this?

Galaxy S7 Edge - Touchscreen overly sensitive ~ reacts without touching screen!

Hello folks,
February 29, 2016 I received my T-Mobile S7 Edge, and it was bliss, but I always though the touch was very odd. I couldn't put my finger on it. Then today while scrolling through the web, I noticed I kept touching things I didn't mean to. I though, it's just the edge screen and I need a case to help mitigate this. Put the phone down on my wooden table and continued to scroll and it kept happening.
After downloading a touchscreen tester app, I noticed that I can make the phone react without actually touching the screen. Like 0.5 mm to 1 mm away from the screen. It's especially noticeable when I'm scrolling and slowly lift my finger, it continues to scroll.
Do I have a defective unit? Or is this something I need to adjust?
I've already tried the TSP Update and it succeeded, but nothing changed. It's still reacts the same.
Appreciate any assistance on this.

I tried to get as close as possible without touching it on mine and it doesn't show a touch. :/

Did you try using a touchscreen tester app? Moving your finger up the app then slowly lifting your finger to see if it still draws the line?

And nothing? Damn, I was hoping (no offense) it wasn't just me. I guess I'll have to call T-Mobile and get a replacement phone. Hopefully it's not a refurbished one (though I highly doubt it will be).

Yea that's a weird issue. Ik on past phones there was like a glove mode to increase the sensitivity. I'm not sure if s7 has it but if it does maybe it's worth looking into if it got toggled somehow

Unfortunately I don't think that's the case here.
I am wondering if it's the same issues that happened with the S6!

Perhaps it affects certain people's biology. I'm just pulling anything out of my hat of logic lol. I'll play with some in stores tomorrow and see if it's something that follows me around or if it's just the phone's technology.
I appreciate your insight.
Have you tried a factory reset? Always the last thing to try. You never know.
Sometimes i'm filling same thing. But most of the time it seems that I just touching egde screens without noticing it .

You think you've got issues
I wonder if it's because you are touching the sides. The edges seem a bit more sensitive on the S7 than the S6, and I notice that because of the curved back, you are touching/holding the edges more than you did on the old phone. I have to use it more to confirm if this is an issue, but I did notice it while playing with it for a few hours last night setting everything up.

I've noticed the same thing. I thought I was crazy when trying to type and getting weird letters that randomly appeared! If it's happening on multiple units then it's probably a bug not necessarily a defective phone.

He said he tried it flat in the table hence he wasn't holding it. I've noticed the same thing on mine even while using s rather bulky case.

Right! I experience it even when not holding it. I can make it happen without holding the phone and it's consistently doing it. It's overly sensitive for sure. I'm thinking about making a quick video of it but it may be difficult to see and it may be challenging to do and record at the same time.

That's what I think it is, but I can't say for sure. If it's a software but (meaning others are experiencing it) then I'll wait for a patch.

I mean I could but I don't think that's a thing since Galaxy S6.
But if you know of where they are I would like to turn them off lol. I have slowly became accustomed to it, but it still annoys.
I plan on visiting T-Mobile and Best Buy tomorrow to see if the demo units experience this.
Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
Is anyone else experiencing touch screen oddities? or is it just few vs the many?
So I went to Best Buy and wasn't able to get the demo units to do the same thing my phone is doing. I showed the Samsung guy (which I'm pretty sure is on Best Buy's payroll) and he was surprised by it as well. He said his S7 wasn't doing it, but he thought maybe it was an Edge issue.
Long story short, I called T-Mobile and they're shipping me a new one.
Here's hoping the next one doesn't have this issue.
Don't have mine yet, but might be worth posting your specifications up. They post phone, color, where it was made, screen manufacturer, chip-set, etc.
In the past when there were issues like this, it helped to narrow down if it was a particular hardware combination. Also, a video would certainly help. Just my 2 cents.

Loose Home Button?

Received my S7 Edge Black a couple days ago in the UK direct from Samsung online, all great apart from the Home Button feels very loose as in tapping it lifting your finger/thumb off quickly gives a loose feeling and the sound as if it is loose the same as if I shake the device you can here the button moving around slightly. My previous S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge Plus and S6 Active (I know, I was trying to find the best one and settled funnily enough with the Active!) did not have this issue. It doesn't particularly bother me but does doesn't feel particularly premium because of it and I was just wondering how widespread this this?
Definately sound like a fault. Mine is nice and stiff.

Yeah its quite annoying and dosnt feel premium because of it. May start an RMA with Samsung! Cheers for the replys guys
Mine is also firm and fine unlike my old s6 that is loose..

It's not a problem..
Hey,
The Home button will have play in it since its raised and actually depresses into the phone. Other brand have had the same type of button but had the button sunken into the display and was round and convave, so you wouldn't feel it, but most still did wiggle. I have the regular Sammy s7 and the home button moves in the slightest on the left side if I make it move.
I've tried roughly 4-5 stores in the montreal area and every single one did it regardless if it was the regular model or edge. So I wouldn't be concerned about it. If you look at the home button's diagram online, you'll see that the Button's flex cable is to the right side of the button creating less space tolerence. So since there's isn't anything on the left of the button, you'll notice that there is less resistance creating slight movement.
Some phones will have it more than others but you can count on all samsung s7's to eventually have some kind of play/wiggle on the left side of the button. So In my opinion, I wouldn't exchange the phone for this type of issue unless the button didn't register being pressed properly. For example, the s6 was indeed manufactured differently and felt loose when lightly touched or tapped on. So it wouldn't always register presses properly. But thats not the case here and I wouldn't worry about it.
Hope that helps!

Sensitive Display

Am I the only one that notice how sensitive the display is on the S7 Edge? Most times when I'm scrolling through the Internet, XDA app, etc. it seems to be too sensitive and it'll make GHOST touches.
I had this issue on the One Plus One before but it seemed to be a hardware defect. Hopefully that isn't the same here.
BTW I HAVE A SPIGEN CASE ON IT SO I'M NOT ACCIDENTALLY TOUCHING THE SIDES.
I have the same occasional issue with or without a case. Considering returning it for a regular s7
Gave it to my wife to try and she says it's way too sensitive (compared to her iPhone ). I've been feeling it's sensitive also....

Same here. I have he T-mobile S7 Edge. Sometimes it seems like all I have to do is hover my finger a couple of mm's above the screen and it registers as though I am touching it. If I remember correctly, didn't the S3 have a setting that could adjust the sensitivity?
It will be fixed with update here soon... Samsung is in the midst or rolling out the update for the edge display... Its a worldwide issue.
For a second I thought it was just me. Hopefully it's just a software issue. I love this phone and I would hate to return it. It's already bad enough that our bootloader is locked.
How is it sensitive? In trying to figure it out lol I should have it too.

You'll notice how sensitive it is once you scroll through the web browser. You will notice a ton of accidental presses.

Ok so I did some testing....it works fine with the Web broswer. I've tried intense sites like CNN,MSN and NFL they all work great. Load fast and scrolled fast too. Absolutely not one accidental touch. I don't see the sensitive side. Maybe yall are just not used to something that can fly? Because it IS fast, it's like my brain touches before seeing.

I would assume that just about everyone on XDA is used to a FAST phone. If the phone works flawless for you then fine but there is obviously an issue with this phone and it's sensitivity.
Yea I made a thread about this issue before. Can't find it ATM.
I almost returned the phone because I thought it was a hardware defect but I learned a lot of folks have this issue. I really hope it gets fixed.
It happenes most when I scroll up or down, if my finger doesn't leave the screen with a swiping movement after the initial swioe/scroll, then 1outt of 5 times it will register a press. And if there are selectable items under my scroll, it's a pita and will select things that I may not be aware of. Ugh.. Staring at shipping labels right now debating on a return . but I like the s7 a lot, I'm torn.

Strange S7 Edge screen sensitivity issue

The strange issue is when I'm not holding the phone (in it's cradle or sitting on my desk), the touch screen is almost dead. It takes 5-6 touches or a long press to register the touch. The strange part is when I hold the phone in my hand the sensitivity is normal (not all that sensitive but at least you can use it).
I do notice when it's out of my hands that if I touch the screen and hold anywhere with one finger and use another, It responds like normal. This makes it unbearable in the car.
I've tried the the pointer speed increase and the TSP firmware update also. But no luck.
I'm running the latest G935U rom PI3.
I've searched a lot and can't find anyone else with this same problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Just tried it on my S7 Edge and touch works well.
There's a sensor called "grip sensor/detector" in our devices. It knows when You hold Your phone and when You don't. Maybe some app on Your phone is using it and somehow messes up Your screen?
If it gets too annoying then take it back to Samsung and show them the issue. They should fix it.

Thanks for your response. That makes sense. I can't seem to find anyway to turn it off or at least modify the settings.
The only apps are the ones that come with the "U" firmware.
This might sound stupid, and if it doesn't apply to you I apologise.
But are you using a screen protector? Maybe this is inhibiting the sensitivity?
Just an idea

Not a stupid question. I forgot to mention it in the first post.
No screen protector of any kind.

I have the exact opposite problem. My screen is so sensitive that every time I pick up my phone an app on the edge of the screen opens. While holding the phone, if my palm just barely touch the screen, apps will open. I've had this phone since the first day it was released and had planned to buy a Note 7 because of my overly sensitive screen. I really like this phone, best I have ever owned but I'm really getting tired of this screen issue.

I read quite a few posts about that same problem. I started this thread because I hadn't seen anyone with the same issues that I'm having.
Have you tried "Pointer Speed Decrease" or the TSP firmware update. Also, have you tried one of those glass screen protectors?
Just a thought.

I think I remember trying that TSP thing a few months ago. I believe it doesn't work with the Verizon S7's. Changing pointer speed doesn't help. I do have a plastic film screen protector. It's hard to find a reliable glass protector which I prefer. Thanks for the suggestions anyway.

Screen to sensitive

Is it just me or does the galaxy s8 plus have a screen that is too sensitive? I feel if I hold it a certain way my phone goes crazy thinking I'm touching the screen.
I thought the S7E screen was too sensitive but not this one.

No problem here. When i first got my s7e (went from note edge) i had a few days where thr edges cause problems but after that never had a problem.
And the s8 is just fine
