encrypt/decrypt after marshmallow update? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

does anyone see a decryption option after performing a full device encryption on Marshmallow?
I am talking about a whole device encrypt/decrypt within MM and Not just an sd card procedure...
I updated an unencrypted LL Note 4 to MM, and now wonder if I can now encrypt the whole device with the option to later decrypt whole device within MM itself?

Hi,
Did you manage to get the answer to your questions. I am also curious whether I will get a Decrypt option if I Encrypt my device.
Thanks

There is no option to revert back if you choose to encrypt. Confirmed from Note 4 Marshmallow user.

[Q] once encrypted, no way to decrypt?

Hi
The first thing I did after rooting my device was encrypting it for maximum security etc..
Afterwars I wanted to change some things like flashing a update.zip eg. for Cerberus oder Avast Anti-Theft. For this, I had to decrypt my device. Otherwise CWM would not be able mounting the needed paths. But that feature is greyed out in settings and refering to the device help or google help, it's not possible decrypting a device once it's crypted.
I can't understand that..
On my Samsung S3 I'm able to en- and decrypt the device at anytime. Why not on my Nexus 7? I think, when Google releases a new firmware update there is also decryption needed. Otherwise I had to reset it to factory settings until I could update it with new firmware, in my understanding.
Any hints and tricks available?
Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure if this is what you need, but TWRP 2.2.2.0 supports Nexus 7 encryption. Only way to "decrypt" is Factory Reset from the device, or ADB, Tool Kit, etc...

S6 Edge+ encryption backup?

Hey all!
I was wondering out of curiosity will backup from stock phone work with smartswitch if encryption is turned on?
Also Im I understanding it correct that there is no possibility to decrypt the phone again in settings? (seem weird and hence I ask, read: http://www.androidexplained.com/galaxy-s6-enable-encryption/)
Just to clarify: I have not yet encrypted my device, Im just asking beforehand if it is something I want to do or not.
to answer my own question (as I tried it) you CAN decrypt after its encrypted and backups works as normal, its just require an extra pass on boot

Adopted storage nightmare on latest OTA MM upgraded X Play

Hi all,
after a good few weeks of no issue whatsover the adopted SD card in my play began failing - to the extent that it now gets checked by the system then disappears - i can see the card in linux but obv need the key to decrypt - cant get the key without rooting, cant root without wiping device.
before i bite the bullet and wave goodbye to all my stuff and start again i wanted to at least ask xda to see if there is any way to get this key otherwise
and my advice is never use the adopted storage feature
Thanks
Is your bootloader allready unlocked? If so, you can get root without wiping your data.
And yes, adopted storage is still very buggy
no boot loader not unlocked - device was relatively new so was waiting to unlock until i had a good reason :crying:

System Encryption doesn't work anymore

Hello Everyone!
After a few months I've updated my phone from Android 5 to Android 6. I had already activated system encryption on android 5. All worked well until a few weeks, now the system encryption isn't available anymore and i can't activate it. I made no firmware update or anything else. On android 6 is no point to activate system encryption. When I set a pin or password for screen lock I am not able to check it for start up. The only thing I do is to switch between two SIM cards (Single Sim) but this should not be a reason to deactivate the encryption without any message. Has anybody similar problems?

A2017G: Phone encryption?

I'm on stock ROM Nougat 7.1.1 B02 on my A2017G. ZTE had promised full phone encryption with 7.1.1, however, the phone doesn't ask me for my password at boot time but only after asking for the SIM's PIN at first login. In the security settings it says that the phone is encrypted, however, I'd rather have the full encryption that uses my password for encryption as well. Has anyone gotten encryption with PW to work on a A2017G on stock ROM? Or am I missing something and encryption is already working properly?
1. you can activate a password or pattern that will be asked after every boot or reboot
Indeed. But that's after the boot process which leads me to believe that the password isn't used as part of the encryption key. Other Nougat devices I use ask for the password before the main boot process takes place.
