How can i Update safely to android 6.0.1 - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello i have the samsung galaxy s5 neo (sm-g903f). It's currently rooted with android 5.1.1 and I wanted to ask if I can update my phone via smart switch without bricking it ???
Do I have to uninstall root before I update it with smart switch or do I have to do something else ?
Besides root I have also installed twrp recovery, a permissive kernel, viper4android, xposed framework and other things like that. Must I uninstall all these things or can I just plug in my phone and update it ?
I know that root and all the other things will be deleted after updating

Hi Emre67511
I've personally never used Smart Switch but it doesn't seems to place any impediments upon your requests.
Smart Switch will be active only after your update and, in your case, will be necessary to reinstall it as only S7 has it built into their ROMs.
You don't have to do nothing before updating and just reinstall what you need and is not yet present.
Depending on which ROM you are selecting to install, root and many other things will be restored during update process.
What I do:
1) I only sync with Google that will restore my contacts/photos/calendar/etc .
2) I have Titanium Backup to backup/restore my personal apps and their data as well as other system data needed.
The exact answer for your thread title is: READ! Read carefully what is recommended to perform the processes you are engaging and do as said.
Please advise if some doubts remain.
Have fun.
.

Thanks for your answer .
I used Smart switch and everything went fine. My phone is updated to the last version and I only have to install root again.
So if anyone else has the problem you can just use smart switch to update your phone to the newest version. You must only install root again and everything else is fine.

[Q] Root and update software manually

Hey Guys,
I have a question.
i used to have the Galaxy Note 3 , rooted it and did alot with it. Now i have a Note 4 and i want to root it. But my problem is this :
When i am going to root it can i also update my firmware manually without making backup? cause i am gonna stay on Stock Touchwizz. I want to Root it and if For example Android 5.0 comes out i want to update it without losing data or without resetting the whole phone.
Cause without root you can just accept your update through OTA or through Kies without losing any data and you dont need to master reset the phone nor make any backup. I want this method rooted through ODIN also, and is it possible. Cause on my note 3 i always made a backup and than needed to flash the new firmware and than restore backup.
help me out with step by step method if it possible
I'm sorry, but otas aren't clean either my friend. Conuntless people experience weird battery drain, force closes etc following an ota.
With in days of the 5.0 update hitting note 4s, there will be hoards of people wanting too know how they can go back to 4.4.4... Mark my words.
The fact that it includes a move from dalvik to art is only going to make the whole process more troublesome than it usually is.
Just individually back up your data through the specific apps if they have the capability, and uses sms and call back up apps if you really need to keep that stuff too, and just clean install yourself for the smother experience

Thanks for the tip that it will be dalvik to art.
didnt knew about that.
So lets say for example if a 4.4.5 comes out and i am rooted on 4.4.4 stock samsung, is it possible to download the stock 4.4.5 and flash it through Odin without losing data?
normally i used to make backups through Titanium and restore it. But i am bit tired of flashing a new stock and than restore backup.

[Q] OTA Lollipop issues , how to root?

Hey guys , my friend has a nexus 4 and he got a notification to install android 5.0 and he did , the installation went on smoothly but now none of the google apps work including playstore even the check for updates option in settings is not working , all of them crash as soon as you open them , his phone has become a paperweight , He is on full stock , never rooted and i was wondering what is the best thing to do , to make his phone work as usual ,
1. Would a factory reset work?
if not .. do i root it?
2.If i wanted to root it - do i follow the same procedure as 4.4.4 kitkat root procedure?
Any thing else that could help us would be greatly appreciated
Thanks guys!

Yes, try a factory reset but that will wipe all your user data so backup anything important to a PC. If factory reset doesnt help, download and flash the factory image. Rooting will come after you have a working phone with lollipop installed. To root, flash a custom recovery (or boot into one) like twrp, then flash the latest supersu zip (2.35 I think).

(SM-G903F S5 Neo) Some general questions after upgrading from 5.1.1 to 6.0.1

Hi,
I had some problems with my Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo and Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, then finally there was Marshmallow 6.0.1 released and since then it's really running smoother (because a lot of people had problems with APA2 Lollipop Version). Now its base band G903FXXU1BPD3 and I also recognized much better battery life (no more high "android system" battery use).
On Lollipop i rooted my device with cf-autoroot and installed team win recovery to backup the system.. got it to work after a while. KNOX is 0x1 but no problem and OTA update was not working but i'm glad i could update to MM with SmartSwith PC Software.
I'm also waiting for Chainfires g903F -6.0.1- root file then I try again.. need it mainly for Apps2SD app to link big data to my 128gb sandisk microsd. By the way, is it o.k. to first install TWRP again to backup the system data, and after that root and TWRP will stay?
Now the remaining problems:
- Device Lag on Lollipop (had to reboot every morning to clear RAM): hope its better with 6.0.1 now.
- Sound issues: 1-2 apps stutter when bluetooth headset or bluetooth sound box is connected; without bluetooth it's working fine. Already tried to clear data/cache for system sound apps like AdaptSound, SoundAlive and also BluetoothService etc. ... by the way my stock music app is lost, can i reinstall it after rooting again with a .apk file ?
- I have CM Locker installed and now, on MM, I don't know which app data/cache i have to clear to reset the standard lockscreen which always starts after reboot (swipe) shortly before CM locker shows up.
- Is it safe to clear data of Google App or will my connected accounts, apps etc. be removed ?
I don't want a factory reset because i've got too much apps to configure again, maybe clearing dalvik-cache on MM after rooting will solve some things...
Thanks for answers..
You can already root your phone you must flash the cf auto root for g-903m. It also works for 903f. Look at the g-903f marshmallow theard. And after you flash cf auto root you have to flash twrp again because cf auto root deletes twrp

The problem is not Root. It works fine with root.
When you go to log into Snapchat, it checks to see if xposed is installed. If it is, it will say there is a problem and will not log you in. You should check your rom to see if it is installed (the files may be there but the app may not).
If i was you, i would clear the snapchat data and then uninstall it. Then, download the "uninstall zip" for xposed. You may say it is not installed, however, elements may still be there. running this in recovery will remove all files. When that has been flashed, you can then install snapchat. Once logged into snapchat, you can then return to recovery and install xposed if you want.
I am currently running snapchat with root and exposed. It will work.

Okay. But snapchat does not have issues with root. What custom Rom are you running if any? Just asking as stopping root will disable xposed, therefore allow the use of snapchat.

Yes snapchat work with root because i have made the login
I use Sac's rom note 7 the version 8
Is root problem too first was xposed now not work even with root so dont say is not root problem if u dont have facts, you can prove by urself i have flashed new rom i was unable to login , no xposed in rom only deodexed and rooted. so unrooted from supersu and login was sucessful
Hi guys I am having the very same issue. I initially rooted my s7 edge and snapchat was working until recently after accidentally logging out. I now can't login to snapchat!
I do not have xposed installed on my phone so it can't be completely because of root.
How do I unroot my phone? and will this mean I need to create a backup of my phone?
Thanks!
***** app
I just installed Renovate Edge 3.3 and snapchat doesn't work. Any solutions?
I don't have xposed, and I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling.

I'm the one who asked the question 2 posts below yours. I have managed to install Snapchat finally after a whole day or searching.
So... yes you have to unroot and reinstall the stock firmware. This will wipe everything off your phone, so yes you have to back your phone up.
After you unroot, you have to log into Snapchat, backup Snapchat up with Titanium, root and install your custom rom and then restore Snapchat with Titanium.
It worked for me. Now I have Renovate Edge 3.3 ROM and the latest update of Snapchat.
As for unrooting, see this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69426561&postcount=5
Note: Unrooting doesn't fix Knox trip (warranty stays void)
How do you backup using titanium when you have no root

Thanks for that. I never installed a custom rom although i really would like to. I'm new to the roit world and customisation rom wise so need to do some research on it. At the moment I'm using my s5 as a play toy for customisation.
Regarding the SC i just fully unrooted my s5 then logged in to SC. After doing so i created a back up using Titanium back up. Then transfered data across to my s7 edge and restored data which allowed me to log in. I could have just unrooted my s7 edge, then logged in and then re-root but as a noob didn't want to risk any data loss from s7 edge.
What would you suggest as a good custom rom for the s7 edge? I'm using stock rom and don't currently have twrp installed (I'm still new on twrp front and benefits of it too).
Thanks!
Ignore the instructions about unrooting and reflashing stock firmware..
All you have to do is uninstall Snapchat, uninstall Xposed. Reboot phone. Install snapchat and login, go into Titanium Backup and backup the "app data."
Then install Xposed, reboot, restore the data of Snapchat via Titanium Backup and your set. I used to run into this issue all the time when rooted and using Xposed
I have unrooted my s7 edge and flashed stock rom and the problem is solved in my device.

No problem. I thought you had installed a custom rom. Since you hadn't, unrooting would do the trick. In my case, it didn't work. I had to go back to stock firmware and then use Titanium.
As for a good custom rom, I've only tried Renovate Edge. It's pretty awesome. I did some research and compared popular roms and found out it's one of the 1st built roms for S7 edge and is still considered one of the best.

Root same way as you rooted marshmallow. Flash twrp, flash supersu 2.79. everything is the same. it will take a while to boot though be patient.
Flash TWRP in Odin
Flash SR3-SuperSU-v2.79-SR3-20170114223742.zip in TWRP
no its not working......After install recovery stuck in Samsung Flashing logo....
TWRP is making the devices get stuck on Samsung logo....
I think what is happening is that when you install only the twrp the encryption of the device conflicts and leaves in bootoolp. When you install twrp and root , root already comes with a tool that takes out the encryption. But if you just want twrp, as was my case, you should, first of all, on your own twrp, wipe data and then flash no-verity-opt-encrypt.
Having root and no encryption sucks. Think I'll wait

I'm not entirely sure what is going on here yet. I've had the stock firmware randomly stop booting even without modifying the boot image (rooting). Others have also reported that just flashing TWRP may trigger a bootloop (which is weird). I have some ideas what the cause may be, but it will be some time before I can properly investigate them.
The only way I seem to reliably get both TWRP and SuperSU working right now is:
- Flash TWRP (3.0.2-5) to recovery
- Immediately boot into TWRP
- If you were encrypted, format /data (ext4) and reboot into TWRP again
- Flash SuperSU v2.79-SR3 in TWRP
- Reboot into Android
The first boot will take a while if you performed that format, but for me it ultimately completes. Note that your device will be running unencrypted at this point!
Of course, if you format /data, you will lose all your data (including contents of internal storage!). Before I flashed the new version, I used FlashFire v0.54-PRE to create a backup of /data and internal storage to the removable sdcard, and restore that backup after flashing DPLT, rooting, and reinstalling FlashFire. This worked fine for me, and all my settings - including fingerprints and system settings - transferred fine. I came from the first Nougat beta, but I've seen others reporting success doing the same thing coming from Marshmallow. As always, your mileage may vary.
Unfortunately, due to this boot-loop issue with DPLT and encrypted data, it is also impossible to use FlashFire to upgrade the firmware itself to DPLT while keeping root if you started with an encrypted device.
I am not sure if the same difficulties exist with other official builds than DPLT, nor if the same problems occur with any of the custom ROMs based on DPLT. The S7 is my daily driver so I don't like to experiment with it too much
Below attach the required Files, I gonna try tomorrow. If anyone tried now please report update.

You can root but you have to disable encryption. Not a fan of that personally so I'll wait for another solution. If I lose my phone at least I'll have secure power up enabled. There is no bypassing that. There are too many FRP exploits on Youtube so having no encryption and simply a password isn't enough in my opinion.

Security log will stop after you launch SU application and let SU to disable knox, it takes me always two attempts, disable, keep trying then i restart smartphone and after restart i try to disable knox again and it works, no more pop ups.
About S Health I'm looking for solution, so far should be enough to install older version set it up and update for new one, problem is that i cannot uninstall old version to get new one working.
