Change preferred carrier network when roaming - Networking

Hi,
Does anyone know of a way to change the preferred carrier network when roaming? I suppose I need to change the PLMN on my sim-card?
I found a way with the pc-software below (but did not test it yet):
https://www.dekart.com/products/card...t/sim_manager/
But I would rather have a way to do it on my phone, since it seems that I can only block networks in this program; and not simply change the preferred network.
Reason is that I live near the German border and travel a lot in Germany. My own provider (KPN Netherlands) dictates a their own network there (E-Plus), but it has very poor coverage where I use to travel; especially in 4G. So I would rather have Telekom - T-Mobile as my preferred roaming carrier network.
Is there an app with which such can be done? I remember that at my older phones changing the preferred roaming network was a standard option.
Or does anyone have experience with Dekart SIM-manager or another program which works?
Thanks in advance!

Turning of Roaming completely

Not sure if this is the correct forum but I want to be able to turn of roaming completely. I have a US G1 on the three UK network with the US RC33 installed and root. I have disabled data roaming. Here in the UK we're too small a country to want to roam! Coverage is usually good enough from a single network. However, I occasionally get the little 'R' symbol on the single strength icon and an annoying prompt saying I need to turn data roaming on because I lost connectivity. I have to go into the settings and manually select the "3" network again.
What I want is to either be connected to three UK or not connected to anything at all. Is there a config file I can edit to allow this? Would the UK RC8 firmware do this for me?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Doesn't a 3-UK SIM try to roam onto O2 though?
You could set the phone WCDMA only and NOT roam onto a GSM network.
Use AnyCut to shorcut Activity: Phone Info
From there under preferred Network Type; set to "WCDMA Only"
HELP!! Roaming signal won't go away
I have an unlocked G1, JF1.41 v 1.1 and i just updated to the RC33...but this also happened when i had RC30 , v 1.0...
I put in my canadian Fido sim card and everything works fine but i have that little "R" on top of my signal strength bar...
I think this means its data roaming? if this is the case...it should be okay (even though its going to bother me) because my service provider says my EDGE/Data is disabled (i do not have a data plan, NOR do i wish to incur any data charges.. i'm fine with my free WIFI ) .
However, if this means im roaming on another network, i dont want to be incuring any long distance charges on my phone EVEN when im using my own FIDO network..
I went to settings - about phone - status, and here are my specs (some of them):
Network: Fido
Network Type: EDGE
Service state: In service
Roaming: Roaming
Data Access: Disconnected
i'm pretty much just concerned about the ROAMING part of it... my other friends with G1's are with rogers, don't have that little R..
how do i get rid of that?? please and thanks!
Try manually changing the network in Settings>Wireless controls>Mobile networks>Operator selection
G1, like all GSM phones, will roam onto networks specified on the SIM if it can get a better signal. As long as the relevant operator has a roaming agreement in place, there's nothing to be concerned about, other than the R symbol in the status bar.
Mod: move this over to General discussion please.
I did change it and selected my Fido network (it's the only network available).
Thanks. I've set it to WCDMA only so I'll see how it goes.
Please help??? i still have that little R on top!
After I got home I found my phone had lost its connection. It didn't seem to be searching for the network. I had to go into settings, search for networks and then select three again. Is there any way to control if the phone does a search for networks automatically?
Looks like it reconnects to three on its own after a while. I still get the annoying popup about turning on data roaming though

As has been previously mentioned, Three will "roam" onto another network if it goes out of Three's own 3G network coverage because Three does not run its own 2G network.
However, it isn't O2 anymore, it is Orange as of late 2006/2007. I *believe* that you won't be charged any more if you use data whilst "roaming" on Orange, so whilst you are in the UK it is quite safe to allow data roaming, but I would be inclined to check this with Three.

How can I view my 3G Internet settings?

I have an X1a with the R2A firmware and I want to find out my 3G internet profile settings?
When I first set up my phone after a hard reset, I am asked to input the country I am in (Canada) and my service provider (Rogers) and it automatically configures my 3G settings for me. I love this feature!
But I want to know how I can 'view' these settings so that I can set up my SE G705 for 3G as well because it's 3G capable and also supports the 850MHz band (for Rogers) for HSPA transmissions.
Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

[Q] Spesify network is NOT roaming - possible?

Hi,
I'm using the operator One Call in Norway. We have the choice of using two Networks: Network Norway and Telenor.
Only the latter will give you 3G, so I manually set my network to Telenor.
The only problem is that my phone thinks I am now roaming. I can off course enable data on roaming, but I think that is a silly workaround.
What is deciding when I'm roaming? The radio ROM, kernel or something else?
I've allready searched this forum, but couldn't find any answeres...

How to make my phone stick to 1 carrier only ?

Hi,
I would like to make my phone stick to 1 carrier and only that 1 carrier. The reason is that carrier has lowest rates and best signal in my area. Unfortunately even if I choose this carrier manualy (automatic turned off) it changes to another carrier anyway when I go away a few kilometers. My guess is that in the new location another carrier has a better signal, that's why phone swithces to that carrier but ... I didn't choose the option automatic change of carrier in my menu.
Can u help ?
Thats strange. I dont know how it will automatically choose a carrier when the mode is "manual". However,In a rare case, you can achieve it, though *VERY* rare.
Suppose the network you like has 3G coverage in your area, and the network you dont like *DONT* have 3G in your area. Then you can get what you want by setting the "Network mode" in your handset to "UTMS only"
Your carrier may have a agreement to share his network with others so they get better coverage of the area.
Anyway, if you want to have only one carrier, just turn off the roaming option on your phone and it should work.
This sounds like you are "National Roaming".
As far as I know this shouldn't cost you extra so why disable it?
As far as I know you can't even disable it.
The only thing you can (but on some ROMs only) is disable National Data Roaming.
Sorry for not having good news.

Rooted K20 Plus (T-Mobile) stuck on 2G network

Hey everybody,
Recently rooted an American T-Mobile K20 Plus and removed the restriction on the network for use in Ireland. I can now register the phone to any network associated with the SIM card inserted into it. Unfortunately, the phone does not appear to be able to connect to anything but 2G internet even after changing Network Mode from GSM only to GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto.
I'm wondering if there are any security measures pre-installed in the phone to block 3G or 4G internet outside of the USA or have I made any stupid mistakes? Phone pretty much needs the better connectivity for use as a hotspot. Any ideas would be great, thanks.
I have the same problem
Is it at all possible for you to access the phone's hidden settings and change the radio band under phone info to Automatic or Europe. It's likely it is set to United States by default.
K20 plus isn't able to use the frequency that irish carriers support.
