When you press the power button to switch the screen off, the screen goes from being black to a white line in the middle, then goes off. kinda like an old TV set

Custom ROM's have CRT off option
Thanks guys, but is there a way to disable this without installing a custom ROM?
I have root access
Also, if I have the stock ROM, but rooted, can I still just install OS updates like normal?
Not sure about JB, but in GB it was a framework mod. Decompile it and it's in one of the strings.xml
All you have to do is turn off the animations in developer options. I dont know which of the three changes the crt animation but one of them does. Youll need to reboot the phone for the changes to take place. No custom rom needed

Awesome
I'd done this before after a bit of Googling but didn't know you needed to reboot the phone
Much better now
Hi there. I just got a S 4. Coming from Galaxy Nexus. I am not sure but I cannot find the night mode on S4. You know the mode wher the phone dimms down and shown only the digital/analog clock also dimmed down. I always used this when going to bed. Any idea?
Download a day dream compatible clock from Google play and then enable daydream and clock will do what you want albeit only when the phone is plugged in.

Actually if you go to the Display section theres an option for Day Dream on or off toggle

Full screen / Immersive Mode on the D80020c... where is it???
Scanned every setting, and I cant find it.
It's not a setting. Run an app that supports immersive mode and it's there
If you root it, and switch over to a Custom ROM like Paranoid Android, you will get the Immersive Mode settings in the Drop Down Menu/Quick Tile Settings.

Has anyone had an issue with their display changing to a dark type theme and the only way to change it back is to reset the settings?

no, the phone is just in my pocket, i take it out and the lock screen is translucent white and when i go into any app there after it is a dark theme like and the settings screen is like a pumpkin color. And until i reset the phone i can not change the incorrect display setting.
I have my phone set to dark mode but nothing happens on the new pie update as it still stays light. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks so much

I have also tried this and it doesn't work. Anyone have ideas why?
I found the fix! Flip the theme to dark theme in the settings and then install this all black wallpaper below. That will turn everything to the dark theme. Once everything is dark you can switch the wallpaper to any other wallpaper and it should stay in the dark theme. Hope this helps!
I'm seeing the same thing on Pie...
@stu5797 why did you make the image 2560x1440? Because the phone resolution I thought for images is 1312x2560?
Actually all u need to do is switch to any of the essential wallpapers that are dark and the dark theme will kick in

Well don't you think we tried that already?
Nope, only changes the App Drawer dark for me, and I assumed all the UI was going to be dark too?

Only thing for me is I have to keep the wall paper , can't change to live one has to be a device wallpaper
Bro how did you get it to work? I have 998 version and the theme but it won't work.
@gorm ahh ok, my bad, notification panel on mine dark too...
You would think the 'Settings' UI would also be Dark? Hmm
Guys - To take a step back to the basics on these conversations, where are you guys seeing the "Dark" theme option, any way? Unless you guys are talking about Rooted or Unrooted Substratum themes with Andromeda (Unrooted)? As far as I can tell, there is no dark option in the stock firmware, is there? Other than inverted colors?
As for my experience, installing a dark wallpaper on the final Pie release, I am in fact able to successfully get the dark notification tiles, NOT the notifications themselves, which are still white.
Sorry for the request for obvious clarity, thanks!
No need to select a dark wallpaper in order to get dark quick settings toggles..that's the only thing goes dark, alongside with the slider of the audio level and the menu when pressing the power button...
