Charging speed super slow! (~8hours to fully charge) - OnePlus 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys,
I really dont know what to do anymore.
My OPT needs 8 hours+ to fully charge everytime!
If I use my OPT to watch Videos it even drains faster than it charges.
The strange thing is if i shut it down and let it charge in the shut down mode ( with only battery visible on screen). The Charge time goes down to less than 2h. So a very normal charge time, that I experienced before.
It started the strange behaviour after i had OOS3 installed for 2+ weeks and never gone back.
Things i tried:
different roms: OOS2, OOS3, CM13, Exodu. Currently I am on Hydrogen OS-
different kermels: Boeffla, Sandy, AK, Stock.
different firmwares and recoveries (I know its useless but i tried everyhing)
wiping complete phone and reinstalling from 0 several times.
different cables / adapters and wall chargers. (Normaly using a 5-port 40w anker charger with anker cable. Every other config like car charger or orginal power adapter&cable same problem).
I have no problems with other devices like my tablet, powerbank, nintendo 3ds, Videogame controllers,... And even the OPT works but only if i shut it down.
I observe this problem now since the start of this month. Its so annoying i am basicly forced to have a power bank always with me.
I really hope you can help me

Could it be an update for one of your apps that has made the app run wild causing it to put phone under constant use? What does battery stat tell you about battery usage? Tried installing system monitor to check on installed apps and how much CPU time the use?

I googled alot and found something about ES File explorer that messes with charging. I deleted it now,
Other thatn that i only installed very common apps like whatsapp.... I dont think its the apps but its worth a try.
Running complete stock for 1 day with no 3rd party apps and recharge.

Same here...some voltage problem in your home....try charging turning phone off.

i would suggest you to use a voltage stabilizer in between your wall plug and your charger,
the one that you normally used for desktop pc

Same issue here. Tried every sort of things. Was initially on CM13 Seraph08, moved to Grarak, then back to OOS3. No improvements, as the OP mentioned the issues are observed from the month of May. It takes 7-8 hours to charge 100%. Did anyone approached service center?

Have your also tried different cables and chargers? As quality of the cables that came with the phone can differ, and also the chargers. Some chargers seems to barely be able to output 1A even, nearing USB:s 800mA charging.

i also having same problem check the charger and cable if u r in oxygen os factory test mode

So most of the answers havent read my first post prolly.
I finally got the OnePlus sup to exchange my phone. With the new one i have no more charging problems.
So i think it was a hardware defect but I am not 100% sure.

how did u get the exchange of the phone ??
was it rooted ??
if it is having a custom recovery will they reject the warrenty ??
please reply asap

Just an observation, Benschholds kernel seems to have fastcharge support. See this recent commit in his source:
https://github.com/benschhold/andro...mmit/b5d1eed20c12a9e9db5128ace98efa51b0a97e19
I noticed these values aren't updated in the AOSPA kernel source for our device, so I'm going to try flashing this kernel and see if it works with AOSPA.
Edit: interesting, the stock OOS2 and 3 kernels do not have these values. So this may not help, or maybe it does, who knows.
Edit2: I tried to flash Benschholds on AOSPA and it DOES NOT WORK! I had to flash the old boot.img using fastboot to fix boot loop.

i had the same problem
i also tried many ROMs and kernels, no help
but now it's fine i'm using another cable
just change the cable(not the charger head)
right now i'm using nexus 6p cable (borrowed)

A friend was having this issue, he said he fixed uninstalling clean master app
Sent from my ONE A2005 using Tapatalk

Yea same issue in Exodus ROM.. Oxygenos 3 didn't have any issues lyk this..

No need for fastcharge in this case, OP2 can already suck almost 1,5A by default and that is a significant number, if connected to original or similar charger with high current output of at least 2A. There are ways to see exact number, like in kernel config apps (Boeffla does it for sure) or by installing apps like Ampere. Compare your cables and charger adapters

Same issue!
My Op2 used to take around 2.5 hrs to completely charge .. Just after i installed cyanogenmod 13 my charging capacity got tooo bad. Its taking more than 5hrs to charge the device. After changing roms from cm13 the battery capacity has not Changed
According to me due to some issue in cm13 the battery charging time has become too bad. Please help currently on oxygen os 3.5.8.. when i use my
phonr while charging at times it evn discharges. Tried moto g4 plus charger due to which the charging time reduced a
bit.

Oneplus 2 was never designed to be Fast Charge ready.

I've had problems like: random reboots, slow charging, battery drain. But after flashing the (considered most stable) 3.1.0 firmware + Boeffla kernel everything was ok again.
But you probably tried it already I guess.

Battery charging issue

Hello,
since September I have charging problems with my Oppo Find 5.
Sometimes when I charge with a power supply it doesn't charge, it decreases then or stays at the same level.
I tried several different cables and chargers, but I coundnt find a connection to the charging behavier and the charging devices I used.
Tonight it was switched off and connected to the standard charger but switching it on in the morning: 0 %...
I'm using Cyanogenmod (Android 5.0.2), I thought of flashing another rom, maybe that will do it...
Has somebody another idea or has similar expiriences?
Best regards,
gragib
Hi... I had the same problem some wks ago. I think there is a mechanical issue, but I don't understand. Now I return to the official CM12 (the best ROM for my experience) and the charge is ok.
Maybe change the connector.

Overheat and not working properly (or not at all)

My Galaxy s5 g900f overheats with anything i do, it overheated in recovery while i was trying to do a nandroid restore, it overheats while charging (turned off), it overheats when i turn it on, i see the samsung s5 animated logo altough very laggy, and when it turns on i enter my sim password and all i see is the notification bar and the rest is a black screen nothing works whatever i do.
When i say overheat i mean the screen and the upper back of the phone are hot, it all happens in a matter of a few minutes.
The CPU got upto 73C while i was doing the nandroid restore.
I got the stock charger and cable, never changed any hardware inside the phone is everything is genuine.
I am running Xtresto lite ROM for the past 4-5 months with no problems. (So i guess it's not the rom?)
Please help.
Thanks in advance.
edit: i've got it on the charger now and it's off and just noticed that the phone is discharging although it shows that is charging, it only charged up to a point i guess and now it is falling while on the charger on the wall
charging will be hotter than unplugged actually, also in my experience within TWRP with its temperature on screen, i also reached 70 degrees simply going through menus... which means there is no cpu idle state without a kernel/rom
so... are you able to run a temperature monitor (maybe with kernel adiutor) or is the whole thing going to freeze or shut down? there is supposed to be thermal throttling depending on kernel & if some parameters have been turned off (you can see them in kernel adiutor)
hopefully it's just some app failing or malware, not a hardware failure... is the phone allowed to turn on while usb plugged in WITHOUT battery? are you willing to wipe the OS? i'm not sure you got your nandroid backup completed (also i have no experience with that... i used TWRP to backup but never tried restoring when i moved from CM12 to CM13, my internal storage was untouched anyway)
edit: just reread your off+charging situation... is this a 2A charger that you know has been able to quickly charge in the past? (like, 0 to 70% in only an hour)
have you inspected the battery, its metal contacts, & the phone's metal contacts for the battery?

Hi, thanks for the reply
No, i cant run any app because as soon as i get in the os its just the notification bar and a black screen, my apps flicker for a second once in a while but there is no way of using the phone, not even in safe mode.
No, the phone can't run without a battery and am pretty sure every phone is like this. You need the battery plugged in for it to work whatsoever.
I have no choice but to wipe the os and reinstall it i backed up everything i could and possible.
This is indeed a 2A charger, it's the original samsung charger that came with the phone. The metal contacts seem fine and the battery is fine. It's not the battery that overheats it's the rest of the phone. When the phone is hot i removed the battery to check if it was the source of the heat and it wasn't.
edit: the battery is draining fast! i can't even charge it, it loses battery while on charger too (the phone is off)
edit 2: i made it until the wipe, then i went to install my rom and it turned off before i reached the point of flashing (thank god) and i guess its draining so fast i cant charge it
Maybe an external battery charger might help to at least give it sine juice to install stock. I'm sure the kernel is linked to charging while powered off. So fingers crossed its a software issue, though this those sound kind of worrying behaviour. External battery chargers can be bought quite cheaply of eBay. I bought a USB battery dock and a better quality male to male USB cable as provided one is crap, and use it with my original Samsung charger. Don't trust the wall plug in types as their all made in China... Best of luck.

geeze, well it does sound like 100% cpu usage... like those bitcoin mining malware
i would try to flash a fresh replacement or stock kernel+bootloader+baseband with root disabled using odin or something, we need to prove that the software is clean
as for the temperature, if it's winter where you are... get the phone some cold air (edit: by the way, lower temperature means lower wattage... only problem is battery capacity might also appear lower, so it's only good for being wired)

where do i find those files for odin? sammobile? yeah it's winter my issue now is that it is completely dead it's not responding when i connect it to the charger at all. I tried 2 original samsung chargers. 3 different cables. my gooood! its driving me nuts.
anything i can do without sourcing a battery or an external charger? not sure i can source one here and dont want to wait for an ebay one really.
Could be a dud battery at the end of the day. Dodgy batteries can cause all sorts of issues. One test is to try spinning the battery on a flat surface. If it spins, its expanding and faulty. Though this isn't the only sign of a dud battery.

G935F Exynos -- Fast Charge stopped working.. Now stating 8 hours to charge my phone

Hi All,
Fast Charge has stopped working on my 10 day old phone for some reason. I get the standard "Cable charging with 7.6 hours to Full" message. Completely stock phone(APD1 Firmware).. No root, TWRP etc... I've tried the following with no luck:
1) Disable/Enable fast charging in settings
2) Swapped cables and chargers (Both Samsung Fast Adaptive Chargers and 3rd party Auker, Anker QC 2.0 Chargers). Made sure the cables were seated properly both in the phone and charger.
3) Drained my battery completely to 0 and then try to charge
4) Factory Reset
Looking at Ampere with the screen on, I get about a 50mah charge rate. With the screen off and using 3c Battery Toolbox I'm getting around 500mah. Nowhere near the 1700-2000mah I used to see... Hence it taking a full 7.5 hours to charge
Any folks out there seeing this behavior? Anything else I can try?
Would appreciate any and all help. Thanks!

Nope... Nothing.. Never been near any moisture..let alone water.. It's completely stock.. never rooted etc.
I just finished reflashing the stock firmware via Odin to no effect... Should I flash it to a different CSC with the appropriate PIT file? Not sure if that would do anything to be honest.. Super frustrating.
Also.. Tried charging over night.. It's charging so slowly that it only got to about 80% after about 7 hours. Data transfer etc works just fine.
After all your tests, IMHO unfortunately there is a hardware fault in the battery or in the component that selects the charging speed.
Therefore you can't do anything else by yourself, contact the Samsung service to have it repaired.
I've had a similar problem that's along with my S6 somehow I swapped cables and then I use the old charger again and after a while it started magically working all by itself I don't know exactly what caused it but now it seems to be working again in your case I would contact Samsung immediately

I have the same issue. after some research, there are quite a few users (in Taiwan) with the same problem as well AFTER the last firmware update. I'll wait until the next firmware update to see if it's fixed before i claim warranty for faulty unit...

OPT Charging problems.

Hey guys.
Since one week i have a problem with charging my OPT. I have used the original charger and cable all the times when i charge it during the night. When i connected it to and PC or Power Bank i used a USBC cable from amazon.
Since a few days the charging takes very(and i really mean very) long. Even over night(6-8 h) i get maybe only 50-60% in flight mode. I also tried the charger of my Pollux (~1,5A) also with no satisfying results. Before the unit gets warm during charge, but nowadays it stays cool.
Somebody had the same issues? Can it be the Ressurection rom? ( i am using it since may and it always charged properly)
Somebody has a workaround? or i have to send it in for repair again?
So firstly, you are saying you run a Custom ROM? Looks like battery stats are incorrect. Do to Recovery mod and wipe the battery stats. Also I suggest charge phone to 100% and then wipe battery stats
Try to charge with phone off and report back
Sent from my ONE A2005 using Tapatalk
I charged the phone all night off. It still is below 50%. I will save all the DATA and will install the latest version of the Rom. Lets see what happens. It seems the phone only takes 500mA. Maybe a USB connection setting is messed up...
Will report back
Hey screamor I had the same issue. I checked the charging speed with the "Ampere" app and it said that I only charge with 10 - 300 Mah , so I tried everything - airplane mode , underclock CPU and charge with phone off but nothing really helped but since I use Benchholds kernel 3.6 my op2 charge with normal speed and also the "Ampere" app says that the loading speed increased to 1300 - 1540 mah
Maybe you should try this also and report back if it helps you too

Pro3 shuts itself down overnight

I recently switched using to pro3 from max2. I have a small problem, now i found twice that the phone was completely turned off in the morning.
The charging cable was connected in both cases. I could turn it on by pressing power button few seconds. Than Android boots normally. But normal pressing the button does not turn on screen. I didn't try the fingerprint sensor (forgot)
Also, charging light was off even though the charger was connected. After boot, the charge was 100%
I am using LineageOS 15.1, but I remember seeing a scheduled turn off setting in EUI before switching. Can it be that I forgot the setting on before installing LineageOS. Can that option stick between OS changes? I assumed it should set something in processor to be able to wake phone up from total shutdown?
Were you using the stock charger?
I had issues with a stock charger shutting down the phone overnight I got one good and one bad one. Great phone but the chargers and USB chord are lousy quality. There are a lot of complaints about faulty chargers and USB chord's and lots of replacement recommendations in other Post's

Don"t charge overnight with stock cable.
Although the phone was connected to charger when this happened, I don't understand why you would think that the problem is the charger or cable?
In either case, it happened with 2 different chargers with different cables in different rooms connected to different power outlets. I use the same chargers to charge another Pro3 and also I used them with my old Max2 and nothing like this happened ever with those phones.
Today it happened again and before I restarted the phone I connected it to PC and PC finds the phone as `Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008` but I am not sure how and why it would go into this mode by itself? Is there a way to debug how phone entered that state?
It's well known that the stock cable can cause various issues, along with burned ports and unexplained shutdowns. The official LeEco forum is gone, but there WERE posts regarding this issue and pictures back in 2016-17.
I guess you weren't on this subforum back in those days, so you missed out on the various warnings. Darkobas and Code suggested that we NOT use them. Users ignored such warnings and as a result their phones stopped functioning properly. This is is very YMMV. Though it's not worth the risk.
You're not the first that has experienced issues, nor are you the last.

@Ace42 Firstly, how will cable cause phone to shut itself down? (actually, as we know now it was in some Qualcomm QDLoader device mode). Can you explain it technically?
I heard about those rumors about cables. To be honest, it feels like somebody was trying to spread FUD. I have bought two max2 phones and four pro3 phones and the cables were perfectly fine. Also a friend of mine bought one max2 and he had no problems either. But I have many cables and chargers because I like to have redundancy and easy access to charger in any room. So I use other cables and chargers. Had no problems with any yet. I am an engineer and monitor the performance of everything I use very carefully. Those cables perform up to specs so far.
Perhaps competitors of LeEco tried to cause panic. Then some people who do not have the necessary information or engineering data blindly suggest something which they can't be blamed for. I have seen it this many times. If you can tell that cable can be used or shouldn't be used, it is 100% safe to tell not use it
Other phones that rely on QC3.0/4.0, such as the LG G6 and Razer phone charge at about half the speed (1800-2100mA). The Pro 3, with the stock charger, will charge well over 3200mA throughout (0-100). It's running out of spec, and not in line with other QC phones.
The Razer, according to owners on XDA, will start over 3000 (until it hits 25%). Once it gets there the rate is effectively cut in half. Again, the Pro 3 will continue to hit 3000-4000 after 25%, and G6 has a constant 1800mA rate. So Samsung and LG phones from the SD82x era shipped phones that charge around 1500-2xxxmA. For some reason the Pro from the same year is much, much faster.
Also if you ask Darkobas (former dev), he'll mention proprietary code for the stock charger. So it's not the same as using Samsung's adaptive charger, or literally any other QC compliant charger. For whatever reason it's able to fry ports (which could be due to cheap parts in the phone), cause the phone to **** off, and initiate QFIL mode.
The last one isn't crazy actually. You can brick an Essential phone by using the stock cable. Now as you mentioned, the phone goes into a special mode (which is unheard of on other devices). That reminds me of these factory cords.
https://www.xda-developers.com/build-your-own-kindle-fire-factory-cable/
https://www.androidauthority.com/essential-phone-usb-c-cable-831817/
What I still don't know is where the problem exists. Is it the phone's board, USB cord, or something else? That's the real mystery.
You raised an interesting point by mentioning competitors. However, I'd rather not take the risk. You're better off using another charger instead of giving yourself a headache.
For the record, before when I most of the time left my phone charged overnight, it would still run fine with stock EUI. Now with custom ROM, this dreaded issue is happening consistently. You won't be able to turn on the phone unless you plug it back and hold the power button for 30 sec or so. And yes I am using the stock charger and cable. No burn in so far since Oct. 2016.

Galactic Stryder and Darkobas worked on supporting the stock charger. It requires additional work.
"Regarding issues with QC 3.0, beware that it has a throttle down mechanism when battery reaches ~40°C it limits input to 2,5Ah and also that it can reach 4,0Ah maximum up to 80% only if the battery temperature is below the threshold for safety zone.
This is the only Kernel using LeEco's charging mechanism with proper safety checks in a minimal manner for ZL1, of course the HW itself can adjust input even without the OEM code in place but it would be a risk to fallback on it without those simple checks.[/QUOTE] - Galactic
Running into this issue too now I'm running aicp, so I guess it's dangerous to use stock charger with these ROMs?

Other phones that rely on QC3.0/4.0, such as the LG G6 and Razer phone charge at about half the speed (1800-2100mA). The Pro 3, with the stock charger, will charge well over 3200mA throughout (0-100). It's running out of spec, and not in line with other QC phones.

Actually, you are very wrong. Because laws of physics does not allow you to charge li-ion battery with same speed between 0% to 100%. Because the charger can't raise the voltage over 4.35V. Thats why qualcomm always put out figures of 0 to 80% when talking about quick charge. After ~80% charging process will slow down whether you like it or not.
You have spectacularly failed to explain why a cable can technically cause this issue on this phone. I recommend you to first try to understand why something is happening instead of quoting random people's thoughts. There is no guarantee that the people you quote know what they are talking about to begin with....

No reason to be worried, stock charger has nothing to do with this issue. Also stock charger works perfectly fine. @Ace42 simply does not know what he is talking about. Spreading FUD, you know?
Actually, in my device I even limited maximum charge voltage to 4.2V (only charge up till 84%) and it still turns itself off sometimes when connected to charger, even when the phone stops charging, also with different chargers and cables. Even with USB-PD chargers with type-c outputs and type-c to type-c cables. This clearly tells me that the issue is nothing to do with charger or charging voltages or charging speed, or cable. Also here it was mentioned that this did not exist with EUI and somebody who used LOS 14 says he didn't have it until he upgraded -> https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-pro3/help/los-15-1-zl1-leeco-pro-3-x720-shutting-t3846441

thats me who was mentioned upgrading from LOS 14.1. I have a detailed description of my issue in the thread that was linked above.
never had any problems with the stock charger. And my phone turns off when i am not using it for several hours, unrelated to it charging or not.
seems to be related to deep sleep I guess?
I have exactly the same problem. The phone turns off twice a week twice a week. An alarm does not work. Daughter is late to work .
