Question about rooting - Sprint HTC 10 Questions & Answers

I just upgraded from my one m7, I had it rooted and love it. My question is if I root this do any features get disabled? I remember reading back one the one max came out is that you rooted it broke the fingerprint scanner. The issue that annoyed me on my one m7 was I could only send mms kver wifi only, ot wouldn't let me send over 3g/lte. I miss my xposed mods and adaway, so I really want to root it. Thanks for reading and answering my questions.

Anyone with an XT905 Razr M?

Hi guys,
For those who have XT905 Razr Ms (the Aussie version) I'd just like to ask some questions
1. If you chose to, how did you root and unlock your bootloader?
2. And what ROMs do you use now? Links if possible please
Thanks
DrShellgon :fingers-crossed:
Hey man, I've got a XT905 so hopefully I can help out.
1. I rooted pretty much as soon as I got my phone. It was on 4.1.2, stuck with all the Telstra and whatever else bloatware so that's what made me go for root. I used (back then) motochopper to get root, and then motopocalypse to unlock the bootloader. Both worked without a hitch and it's been smooth sailing since!
However. I've been re-reading through the threads lately, and, if I understand correctly, it looks like the exploit motopocalypse used to unlock the bootloader has been patched, so that doesn't work any more. I've been reading that geohot's new root for the Galaxy S5 works for the RAZR M though! So maybe have a read and give that a go.
2. I decided to keep it at stock, because all the ROMs on offer all had some problem with them, such as audio, wifi, camera not working, etc. What I did instead was install the Xposed module + Gravitybox, and it pretty much lets me control a lot of functions of the phone. I also used TitaniumBackup to freeze/uninstall all the crapware, and finally a launcher to get custom homescreens.
Hope that helps a little, good luck with rooting your phone!

Haha thanks it's just I'm thinking of getting a new phone cos my current one is unreliable so I'd see if rooting and stuff was possible on a device before getting it Btw what ROMs did you try?
No worries, definitely always do your research before you plan to root My RAZR M has been a beautiful beast. It's lasted way longer than I thought honestly! Rooting it and tweaking it has given it plenty of new life.
Unfortunately I can't help you on the custom ROMs, I never ended up trying any of them. I've rooted and loaded custom ROMs on many phones before this, so I've been round the block a few times, and basically didn't really want to deal with all the odd glitches you can get. As it is, I'm really happy with my current setup (but there's always room for improvement!). I'm sure that others can give you better input on them than I can on that front.

You guys will probably rage on me but...

... Ive had my G4 for some time now on stock MM but was encountering some minor heat issues, i decided to book up the courage to downgrade and root.
Now, im not the most experianced in rooting, i useually count on programs that do it for me, ive never pushed, injected, fake OTA etc. Before. Yes i was scared.
I finally did it all sucessfully yesterday but the only problem is, i feel abit dirty.. Thats the only way i can explain it!
Its strange, i enjoyed stock but i love root access.
Anybody else had this feeling, with any of their phones?
Btw, im now on H815 SEA (Singapore) LP
Yep it's normal, you're gonna learn to love the feeling and you soon could not live without it.
You see, now "TheRoot has you" and there's no escape. Soon you'll be diagnose with ORD (http://www.xda-developers.com/do-you-have-obsessive-rom-updating-disorder-ord/) and you're gonna try and root every device you see.
Welcome to the club
Haha, don't get me wrong I've been rooting for years but I did really enjoy being on stock. Once I get more organised I should feel a bit better.

Its good when you root , you can make your phone look cool...
I did the same thing yesterday. The phone is so much better now. I never used any feature of M anyway. I even installed xposed framework, only did 2-3 things to improve my usage.

You don't need an unlocked bootloader to install Xposed.
Isn't it quite risky though? I am a noob at this stuff. I'm quite impressed I'm able to use my phone after pushing a rooted image onto my phone

I did not read anywhere that it was risky. My first time doing it with flash fire 0.24.
I have a locked bootloader.
Only scary part is your screen being off and you device seeming dead for 15min. It's normal though.
If you decide to do it the version of Flash fire must be 0.24 and you need SDK22 arm64 of exposed framework. I installed SDK21 (its for Android 5.0) first time I did which is wrong for the Android version 5.1.1 and nothing bad happened, ran the uninstaller and installed SDK22.

I don't know where I read it but I remember somebody saying every time they use flash fire they crap their pants. I will install xposed but I might wait until an unofficial unlock comes out. I can live without xposed .... For now

I guess the whole part where your phone seems dead for 20min is scary, because you do not know what is happening. I do think we can still recover with LGUP if something goes wrong though I am no expert.
Like you I really hope unofficial bootloader unlock comes, but who knows if it will...

Probably. There was no information anywhere on doing it to my variant but worked just fine (H812). Just make sure you get the right version for your phone, then the same version that is rooted. Pretty sure LGUP can not brick a phone but I am pretty new to LG phones.
Rooting aint what it was. Some folks just keep fooling themselves its worth doing. Most that do it, don't need to anymore. Give it another couple of years and root will be gone mostly.

Well for me its really worth changing the awful stock DPI on the G4, you can kind of do it without root but does not work properly.
Removing ads is a bonus.
Also it's nice to have access to play with some things. (exposed modules, tweakbox, etc).
What could you do a few years ago with root that you can't now? I am pretty new to Android, so honest question.
You can't make a Nandroid without UB can you as you don't have custom recovery do you? That is the bit I would worry about having Xposed on LB,if a module crashed the ROM. I think the Xinstaller forced into bootloop on my last G4

I don't think so, but can't you fix a bootloop with LGUP?
Unless bootloop was caused by HW failure which happened a lot on older G4s from my understanding.
Xinstaller definitely caused bootloop for my G4, not the hardware problem (that came a couple weeks later) as I went to recovery and deleted module and booted fine. It was conflict with MM at the time I think.
Point being I don't think you can make Nandroid without UB. Don't know about LGUP, I guess you could yes, but lose settings media apps etc.
Yea this is why all my stuff is either backed up to the cloud or its on the media card.
I've had a rooted phone for ages through multiple devices and vendors. I recently succumbed to the curiosity and upgraded my SEA G4 to MM, losing root. I haven't had any heat issues, not ones solved by not playing games that require constant tapping on the screen anyway, and generally I've been happy with my phone on MM. The main thing I miss from when I had root is the ability for Tasker to do certain actions - like enabling/disabling location services and NFC etc.
Sure I can live with it - but getting back abilities like that has made me consider a downgrade just like the OP many times. I am resigned to the possible fact that I may never get an unlocked bootloader, and no MM root will be no surprise to me.

Verizon Lg v20 root is it worth it?

I have been reading about people bricking there devices trying to root. Are they doing something wrong or is it just not stable? I have rooted a few phones before but what i am reading is scaring me from rooting this one. Any input would be appreciated thanks.
I use my phone often. Not much gaming. And go to bed with usually 60+% battery. I'm currently using Weta Rom but they all are good. Its a trickier root than normal however I think this may be the new normal so just follow directions carefully and you will be fine.

No thats fine. i appreciate any help.
Rocking VS995 here. Followed the Dirty Santa steps and it worked easily. Been flashing everything I could on this device and settled on Weta because of the sound mods and still having all the stock features. I've gotten 8hrs SoT with a Blacked Out theme, Substratum themeing, no lag, and Deep Sleep like it's in a coma. Rooting the v20 is a must really at this point. The only downside I've come across is it vibrating during boot up while it's connected to a charger. Otherwise I've rooted, flashed, and been living the life.

Do not follow any of the above guides that are posted you will kill your phone with those methods. Please follow every detail of this threat to a T to root your verizon v20 https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/ls997vs995h910-dirtysanta-bootloader-t3519410
It has been done guys. i thought i bricked it a few times but i am up and running on stock again with super su and root chaecker saying i am rooted
I am still debating on rooting myself I prefer to keep it root free for at least 6 months in cause something goes wrong with the hardware.
Main reason I root is so I can control what runs and what doesn't which should be a default ability in android in my opinion. I don't root to use custom roms I am always concerned about security of 3rd party roms

Hit the power button to turn the screen off. Then hold your hand over the proximity speaker to turn off the second screen. When they're both black, you can use the phone regularly. It explains all this in the Dirty Santa root method thread.

If you want the static to go away. @BackCheck made a stock verizon kernel that works just a good as the konverged kernel. I get the same battery life as I did on the konvergered kernel and plus its more stable Just do a backup in twrp. Then hit wipe, advanced wipe, and check mark cache and dalvik and then go back and flash the restock kernel. The first boot take a bit of time so make sure your phone is charged a bit! You wont lose data or anything so dont worry.

I can't answer this - my question to you, however, has to do with your experiences in rooting.
I have the Verizon V20, non-rooted. The software version (it has taken one update since I bought this a few weeks ago) is VS99513A.
Can you confirm that this was the software version you had (have) when rooting?
And you said you thought you had bricked the phone a few times - what, specifically, are you referring to? I've read enough of the DirtySanta rooting thread to see some of the issues people have run into (static, long wait for first boot, etc.).
One of the unfortunate problems with a universal carrier rooting thread is that it doesn't delineate any one specific carrier and issues with rooting that might be particular to that carrier among all the posts. You have to wade your way through, lol, to find specific Verizon issues, for example. (That said, I'm very happy there's a rooting thread!)
It seems that from what I've read in the DirtySanta thread, many issues came up because people didn't explicitly follow the guide.
So, can you comment on your software version (13A?) before rooting, and what, specifically, gave you pause during the process and what I should be prepared for?
(By the way, the major thing I want from rooting is to be able to get hotspot wifi capability without having to pay Verizon for it. I'm on the grandfathered unlimited data and have not been convinced that it's in my interests to switch to their new "unlimited", particularly since I can't use my corporate discounts, and will potentially run into hotspot throttling after a certain limit, etc.)
Thanks!

This is possible with a rooted phone that has a kernel patched to bypass boot state verification (most kernels have this now) and using something like SU hide + Root Switch. I am currently running this setup and can use root switch to turn off root on the fly, use AndroidPay and then turn root back on when done.
I'll admit, I have yet to actually pay for anything with Android pay......but using this approach, I was able to add my credit card as well as bypass all checks with the SafetyNet helper app.

Some of the roms like notsostock have people explaining how to pass the checks and all the apps used.
You can run the exploit on 13a without any problems. If you still don't believe me or whatever just use the kdz to downgrade to 12a then do the exploit.

is there a Developer that I can pay to root my T-Mobile v20

How's the rooting/unlocking situation on the v20, still risky?

I attempted to do mine when I first got it a few months ago and bricked it, said I was going to wait until it's more streamlined but I haven't really heard much. Has anything more streamlined come out in the last few months?
Mine is the t-mobile variant
No
I just got my t mobile v20 last night. i was reading all the threads about root/twrp for the previous 2 day so i'd be ready to go. I did it successfully last night with root, custom ROM and TWRP. It is difficult but not exceptionally. Just tedious. I've done this on prior samsungs, LGs, and my most recent nexus 6p. This was the most lengthy and annoying for sure. But I'm glad I did it. I'd be glad to help if you are interested in trying.
I'd say it depends on your carrier. AT&T and Sprint don't have KDZ files. Don't brick if you're on one of those 2. LOL
And Canada?

Agree. Use that thread he linked. Read it a couple times to make sure you understand what's going on. Have all the necessary files ready like twrp, supersu, dirtycow exploits, etc. Makes it so much easier in the long run. I also personally always recommend rebooting your pc before starting anything like this to make sure its all fresh/updated and ready to see devices/drivers/etc.
Hello, I just got my Sprint LG V20 and am looking for how too unlock an root it?? Any help would be great!!
I almost attempted to root mine the other night.. got hung up with terminal commands since i'm use to one click root style methods... then as I read more.. saw notes about people having "2nd screen static" issues.. so now i'm concerned that rooting may cause some glitches that I really don't want for my new phone..
The big reason i wanted to root was for XPOSED and Gravity Box, however I found out yesterday that its not even out yet for NOUGAT.. so i'm glad I didn't attempt it yet..

Best root method so far for Lag and Overheating?

This newb has rooted and unrooted several times. I apologize if this shouldnt be here but the similar threads were dated. I have an S7 edge SM-G935V on 6.0.1
Can anyone suggest which root and tune method(thread links please)lags and overheats the LEAST either on MM or Nougat. I only need root for one auto-clicker app and also require an Xposed module Security Bypasser, the only way Ive found to hide root so far the app I need it for. I havent tried any nougat roots yet because Im getting conflicting info on the ability to downgrade. Can anyone confirm this as well?
Also If I need to buy another phone, what is the smoothest running used phone to root for Verizon? If I cant get this working optimally. Pixel, HTC 10 etc... If Verizon isnt an option can you suggest a phone for Cricket or another carrier. I really need to get this working ASAP.
Thank you for your reply
