Hi all,
I just upgraded my m8 to ARHD 53.1 and it’s my first try of Android 6.0. Works really great, but I get very confused from silence vs do not disturb and why it’s so convoluted.
I think there’s a large consensus that they just can’t seem to get that feature right. I’m not against change, but it seems that the simplest scenarios got messed up:
1) I have the sound mode and DND buttons in my quick settings.
2) I’m actually only interested in two modes and that’s it: a) normal - all notifications b) silence with exceptions (certain contacts that can wake me up and alarm. All silence other than that). I think that it shouldn’t be too much to ask for.
3) If I set DND to priority, it changes the mode to silent and everything’s cool, I get mode (b). I can get back to mode (a) by pressing the sound mode or DND button - works. I can also toggle DND again to get back to (a). BUT, if I press the sound mode button by mistake and go to silence that way, it turns on DND with ON instead of priority and it will never get back to priority unless I go into settings on change it back!! Why?? And why link those two features together in the first place.. I see no reason to not have the option for vibrate sound mode with DND on (for the exceptions).
I’m pretty sure that this is just the way it is, and there’s nothing that can be done in the settings, but if anyone knows of an xposed module that unlinks DND from sound mode or something like that, that will be awesome…
Thanks!

Hi. I am looking for a way of switching to 'night mode' with one button press - ringer only, no volume, no email/sms notifications and then switching quickly back to 'day mode' the next morning, with everything on? Toggle nearly does it, but not quite - it still makes enough of a noise when I get an email to wake me (although I like the fact I can put it on the toolbar.)
Any help, gratefully received...
Hi!
Recently upgraded from a Galaxy S3 to the Note 4. Loving it. I've searched on the Internet but have yet to find an answer but - - on my Galaxy s3 I was able to turn the volume all the way down and it would show vibration, if I went down one more notched, it silenced it completely. I used this quite often for work, movies, etc. Now it appears when I volume down, all I can get it vibration mode. I'm still on 4.4.4, not Lollipop (which I've seen has its own set of silent mode issues. Please advise, or point out a newb mistake of mine! Thanks in advance!
Didn't notice that before .... Because i always use vibration mode. Use power button and than mute.
Maybe use silent mode? If you are lucky enough to still have it (5.0 is the first version that doesn't have it I think). You can also silence the vibrations in settings (but that will get rid of all vibrations).
Use the toggle on the top of the notification shade when you drag it down to select mute.
This is a very strange thing that happened to me today. I am not sure what I hit from the outside of my phone to put it into vibrate mode but I noticed the following afterwards:
When I turn the ring volume all the way down it vibrates and shows the vibrate symbol only. I could have sworn there are 2 modes here silent or vibrate. Why is it forcing vibrate? In my settings I have vibrate on call turned off.
I was playing around with the Do Not Disturb features, but not sure how this could affect something like this.
Any ideas? Can people please confirm that on their Nexus 6P when they turn the volume all the way down they don't see a vibrate symbol, but a silent symbol (the tune with the / through it). I want to make sure I am not losing my mind.
My phone is on Android version: 6.0.1
I get vibrate (square with lines on the outside symbol) and if I click volume down again I go to DND. Sounds like you changed a setting in DND options maybe

What you just described is exactly what I get I think. If I go down to the bottom I get the vibrate symbol, if I hit down again I get DND. Does this make sense? I guess DND is silent? I swear on my Nexus 6 there was a Tune with a / through it regardless of DND settings.

Sounds like how mine works, and I'm totally stock. DND is pretty much same as silent but with alarms and I think you can adjust other settings as well. Haven't messed with it much, but sounds like yours is working properly. Did you have MM on your N6? If not, I don't think Lollipop had DND

Can't remember what my Nexus 6 had, but I am pretty sure DND works slightly different in the latest version of Marshmallow. I like what they did with it though, a lot more flexibility. Thanks for confirming that I'm just going crazy and that my phone is functioning properly.
Hello,
Whilst replacing my screen, I broke the slider. Now the phone is stuck in DND mode. I've changed the DND settings so I can hear rings and notifications, but it still sucks.
Is there any way to get the phone to ignore the slider and use software based DND?
I've had a look through the settings and I don't think there is an easy way. I'm running OOS 3.5.5, but I'm not opposed to trying something else (eg: cyanogen or lineage) or installing xposed...
Thanks in advance!
Hi, so I stood in line for the OP3. But had to sell it as I needed basic profile settings from my phone which it just couldn't handle.
Backstory: I use all sorts of phones but my main one is an iPhone. I like the fact that I can toggle its slider and make the phone silent/vibrate on EVERYTHING.
Does the updated Oxygen OS do this? Or are we still stuck on their version of silent, priority only and normal? The problem with this, as I remember, was that if you managed to choose vibrate for the silent mode, it was tedious to get it back in ringer mode etc.
How is the functionality now?
