Like from the ground up. Not just taking an existing stock Samsung firmware and modifying it. Is it possible? How hard would it me? I'm just curious.

Was wondering if anyone here knows of a way to get the theme picker into the ATT D800 settings soft key like the way it is for all other variants? Root or not. Don't matter to me. Just want it on my D800 without flashing a custom ROM.
Any help would be appreciated.

Don't waste your energy. Gnash a custom rom that ashtray had it baked in.

Is there anyways to get Samsung apps on a custom ROM? I find that while the 4.4.2 Roms generally work great, that lack of SApps and especially the one hand functionality, really reduce how great these Roms can be.
Or is the best bet just to root Samsung's Roms?
Thanks in advance.
Never heard of the leaked 4.4.2 kitkat Samsung rom? ???

I think he is referring to AOSP 4.4.2 ROMS.
For the OP, I don't think it is possible, and believe me, I am in the same position as you are, whether use the boring Samsung ROM with all those features or to use nice looking 4.4.2 ROMs with no Samsung features
Why wouldn't it be possible? Aren't the Samsung apps just apks that can be extracted? Or is it all based only on touch wiz?

Its based on the touchwiz framework. Yeah, it's apks and you might be able to install them but they might either not start up, work properly or not be able to install.

Apks require TWiz framework to work which is impossible to get in AOSP ROMs. AFAIK, MIUI is the only custom ROM which supports SApps.
Hi all.
I've had my S5 for a few weeks now and I want to root it, is it possible to do so without losing all my stuff that is already on it?

Root is patching you current firmware without altering your current phone state.
if rooting goes well you won't lose anything.
If you fear, use Helium backup for apps and app data,
and also manually backup your internal storage to your computer in case anything goes wrong.

Anyone figure this out? Only thing i've found is it might be part of systemui now, which would be annoying.

Can't flash an OTA or sideload it on a modified system at all. So not sure what you are looking for.

I see it, I guess I have never updated any other way besides your M8 thread and this one. I just thought I could pull the firmware, etc and update it but I don't think it's probably that simple right? Thank you.

If you just want to update firmware you can do that but it won't touch the rom update wise.

Yep, exactly, all I was looking to do. Are you going to be throwing a RUU out on this one? If so I can wait it's no big deal.
